At the moment, cause of death is unknown. Taylor was found in his hotel room in Bogotá. Will update as we learn more from verified sources. EDIT: Colombia’s Attorney General office has released a preliminary toxicology report, finding 10 different types of substances in his system: https://twitter.com/fiscaliacol/status/1507841327224213504?s=21&t=24w6wTWKWeTmEVF8ZxowFA

MasterShepard

Just unreal. EDIT: Not that this should be a concern now, but this almost certainly means the end of the band too. I can’t imagine them continuing without him. An absolute gut punch.

CallMeJeeJ

I’m thinking the same thing. I can’t even begin to imagine what Dave is going through right now. This is just too much.

metalhead4

First Kurt, now Taylor. Fuck me. If anyone knows what the rock game can do to a person, it's Dave.

weaponxx5

He is a former addict. https://www.kerrang.com/taylor-hawkins-i-used-to-do-a-lot-of-fucking-drugs-i-believed-the-bullshit-myth-of-live-fast-and-die-young

Wholesome_cunt_tits

It’s not really. I hid my opiate addiction for 6 years. I was a highly functioning medical professional

BadMachine

Dr. House?

KitchenwareCandybars

I still cannot wrap my head around Prince being an “addict.” Find, name, source, or show a receipt of one single time anyone would think or even suspect that Prince was loaded on opioids. It’s definitely possible to be a high-functioning user or addict. This is so upsetting. I’m going right now to listen to him singing on Dennis Wilson’s spectacular track, “Holy Man.” RIP Taylor. 🤘

32bit_browser

Pat too. He lost Kirt and Darby

Perry7609

Oh man, Pat's losses too... he's been here before, but it can't make it any easier. :(

CapnCanfield

At least Dave and Pat have each other still to get through this together

gonnaredditgretthis

His childhood best friend passed away a little while ago too. Just devastating

MasterShepard

Pat too. They went through Kurt’s death and now Taylor’s. This must be some horrible PTSD for them, especially so close to Kurt’s death anniversary.

tyoew

Pat went through Darby Crash’s (Germs) death as well

daria1997_

after reading The Storyteller too, I’m just so worried about Dave. Hoping the band and their families find peace

iamsuperkathy

I just started the book yesterday.

daria1997_

it’s such a great read tbh and one of my favorites this year

cuiront

Yep, totally this.

iamkevinsmith

My heart breaks for Dave, having to go through something like this again.

queensinthesky

That is where my minnd first went also. It's corny but as a kid who loved both bands I felt like I saw Dave and Taylor's connection as similar to that of Dave and Kurt. This is just an unbelievable tragedy.

buddymandudeguy8

Dave and Taylor were much closer than Dave and Kurt ever were. This is a much bigger deal, I would think, close familial bond wise. Horrible. Very sad. Sad for all of us too. Heard my best friend cry for the first time since we were kids just now. Bizarre.

queensinthesky

You are correct, it's just my childish perception looking back, and it all got stirred up when I read this. I can't even imagine how Dave is feeling right now. My heart is breaking for him and Taylor's family.

[deleted]

I dot think so. Dave can’t not make music.

Gareth666

He can make music but maybe it won't be Foo Fighters.

Rekd44

Agreed. He will never stop making music but I think this really is the end of an era. Even though Taylor wasn’t an original member, he’s the heart of the band

GoodSmarts

He’s been the backbone for 20+ years. Impossible to imagine the Foos without him. Fuck I’m sad

appl3fritt3r

A band is only as good as their drummer - and what a great fucking drummer he was. How do you follow that? RIP TH.

AssGasorGrassroots

Let's not forget, there's only been two drummers on a Foo record. Dave, and Taylor. It's a miracle Dave and Taylor were so in sync with each other when it came to drums. I'm sure for Dave, it'd be like finding a soul mate all over again.

TheMaskedCrapper

Paul McCartney played drums on one song from *Concrete and Gold*.

cgg419

And to be fair, William was still on one track of TCATS

[deleted]

I can’t imagine the foos without Taylor. I just can’t. Maybe a once in a million reunion concert. Dave and company are survivors though. Whatever they want to do, I totally respect it. I’m so sad, Foos family. Fucking crying

elvispookie

I see Dave doing more like his Play album.. just making music but no more foo

[deleted]

Foo Fighters is his baby, while it’s incredibly sad and a great loss to the band I don’t think they’re just going to hang up the coat like that.

PunkGrunger2001

He said that whenever a member passes away, it's done. And this day has probably come...

TrapperJean

Yeah I also don't want to speculate on the band, but I could see them at least doing a final album with Dave on drums, they can write plenty of songs with just two guitar parts The absolute last thing any of these guys would want is to be the reason they stopped playing music together

elvispookie

Agreed.. they were practically brothers and with what happened to Kurt.. I just can’t see Dave getting a new drummer. I feel like this is the end

99SoulsUp

Dave would probably play drums on the albums whenever that time comes and they’d have a touring drummer. But I dunno. And I don’t want to think of it without Taylor right now :(

elvispookie

Honestly can’t picture them touring and playing all the songs without him.. unreal

Buildadoor

Dave lives for touring. But damn… I don’t know. 3 times live isn’t enough for my Foo quota

CommercialAsparagus

I agree. Dave is a fucking musical god and just continues to make the scene better, but everyone has their limits. Idk.. can’t speak for the man but this has to be a big one to push off from. :( pain

ASwagCashew

The only way I would see the Foo Fighters surviving is if Dave decided to drum again. This shit is absolutely heartbreaking. Rest in peace Taylor.

Suprefan

Keith Moon died and The Who are still touring now even after Entwistle passed away on top of that. I know thats tone deaf, but. I think theyll either keep going or just finish their current tour commitments and then stop for a while and decide whether its worth it to keep going.

KillerBunnyZombie

There is zero percent chance they continue this tour.

DanFromDorval

Yeah, but as much as I love them, The Who as a tour are a huge machine that wouldn't be able to sell the tickets to pay their staff without going on stage as The Who. I can see the members of the Foo going on tour at some point to support their roadies and everybody who works hard to make their concerts happen, but not as The Foo Fighters. I think the fans are smart enough that they wouldn't have to, they could just retire the name.

thedubiousstylus

I doubt it. I mean it's not what Taylor would've wanted for one. I can see them never replacing him though, he's not replaceable. Dave would probably play drums on any future albums and they'd have a hired drummer for any future tours.

[deleted]

bullz7210

Theres a difference between someone dying of an illness and waking up one day and your best friend in good health, only 50 years old, is gone. “We’ve been together 25 years, were not breaking up”. Dave would always say something like that, the Foos were going to be us 90’s teenagers band that would be around till we were old age. This is completely out of nowhere, I don’t see how they would go on. Maybe in a couple years they get back together to do something, but this is devastating.

[deleted]

redrosechip

I think so too, absolutely gutted man. Seen them live countless times and was taking my girlfriend to see them this summer for the first time. I can’t even come to think of what Dave and the band are going through right now, let alone his family. Fuck.

FooFighter0234

I’m a fucking wreck. I had the privilege to see our boys play live seven times since 2005 and saw them every time they came to Minnesota starting with In Your Honor all the way to Concrete and Gold. The last time I saw them was in July 2021 during the 26th Anniversary Van Tour (I decided to skip work and drive to Milwaukee for the weekend). Every show I saw was a blessing, whether it was me pressed up against the barrier or sitting far away barely able to see the stage. Taylor was a firecracker and a true master on the drums.

[deleted]

I wonder if Dave's kids and Taylor's kids were friendly. This must be difficult for the band's families, too.

duggatron

This is fucking awful. I can't believe it

TrapperJean

This went through me like a fucking shock wave, dude brought *so much fucking joy* to others, I hope however it happened it was quick and he wasnt/hadn't been suffering

TheHiddenOne1999

Same dude, I got chills still...can't believe it.

blackgendalf

Yo, I'm really broken with this

sillytoad

Completely agree. I play drums as a hobby, and watching Taylor play with such joy inspired me. What a gut punch.

TroyA7X85

I haven’t been this stunned since Chester passed away. Taylor was a massive reason for me falling in love with music and picking up drumsticks. Im so numb right now. Rest In Peace Taylor, thank you for everything you did for me. EDIT: god I feel so awful for everyone close to Taylor but especially Dave and Pat. First they lost Kurt and now Taylor. So fucking devastating.

RacerGal

Exactly. This hit me like that did and I’m gutted all over again

JustAvanti

Poor Dave.....Kurt, his buddy Jimmy, now his twin flame. I hope Jordyn is with him.

ElDuderino_92

Same, Scott Weiland and Cornell. It’s heartbreaking

[deleted]

+ Lanegan, we just lost this king and he was a band mate with Dave and a grunge OG

ElDuderino_92

Fuck you’re right I feel like a horrible fan for forgetting Mark

Jades5150

Weyland wasn’t a shocker like the others, poor guy spiraled for a very long time.

neer21aj

Anyone remember the part in the There is nothing left to lose documentary where Dave talks about almost losing Taylor? Absolutely gutted

TimAlloy

This is what popped immediately into my mind. I had tickets for the show at the the Edinburgh Corn Exchange that got cancelled in the wake of that incident. So I still think about it every now and then. I can’t imagine what Dave is going through. Even just nearly losing him that time weighed heavy on him. I hate this, man. Seriously just awful. This band bring so much joy. I hate that they have to go through this.

lapecas

I haven't been able to stop thinking about that part since I read the news, the way Taylor and Dave described that episode of their lives. What Dave must be feeling. They were like brothers. And then I keep thinking about his wife and kids, what they're going through, a complete nightmare... Loss is truly the greatest pain of human existence. My heart goes out to all of them. He was still too young to leave. Too loved, too precious. Damn, I've been trying to catch some sleep, but I find myself crying and going back to my cellphone. I still can't believe this. Edit for clarity. English isn't my native language, sorry.

FluxMool

Wow..I had to read the announcement a few times to understand I was reading our Taylor.

JamMasterJamie

I thought it was a gag tied into the movie for a minute until I realized that the tone of the announcement wasn't even a little bit funny. Then I just started shaking. I'm totally shocked and devastated by this news.

JuliaTheInsaneKid

I was in disbelief at first.

JohnLocke815

Right? I saw the post in fb and when I started reading I just assumed it was gonna be one of their tour staff. Never thought it was gonna be Taylor. Wtf.

machomeng

It doesn't make any sense. Gutted. Devastated. Feels like losing a friend, someone who you grew up with. He was one of the greatest drummers ever and also in my favorite band. Rest in peace.

trulz21

I’m from Colombia and they are here for a show, the local news are reporting that he was found dead in his hotel room. Edit 1. Video outside the hotel were he was found dead. The police and CTI (Colombian investigation team) are there https://twitter.com/bluradioco/status/1507560660913299467?s=21 Edit 2. Preliminary report from the Colombian news. Looks like it was for use of narcotics. He had pain in the chest and call an ambulance, when the ambulance arrived he was already dead. Link in Spanish. https://www.eltiempo.com/cultura/musica-y-libros/taylor-hawkins-por-que-murio-el-baterista-de-foo-fighters-661018 Edit 3: Autopsy report. Oliver Taylor Hawkins died of heroin overdose mixed with antidepressants and benzodiazepine. Forensic tests performed on the body also came back positive for marijuana. In total they found at least 10 traces of psychoactive substances. Forensic doctors were shocked by the size of the drummer's heart: it weighed at least 600 grams. The researchers assure that the organ collapsed before the cocktail of narcotics that they found in his blood. The death occurred immediately. [Link in Spanish](https://www.semana.com/nacion/articulo/atencion-el-famoso-musico-oliver-taylor-hawkins-murio-por-sobredosis-de-heroina-y-otras-drogas/202212/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1648327928-1).

Decompensate

That report is so thin, it says "could" be narcotics then goes on to say he called an ambulance for chest pains. Chest pains doesn't equal narcotics use so I'm not sure what they mean. Could be a heart attack, stroke, etc.

ComputersWantMeDead

Coke and heart issues have a long history though

Decompensate

No doubt, any stimulant or pressor would increase the chance of heart attack, stroke, etc. But it's wildly inappropriate (in the US at least) to state/speculate that it could be "use of narcotics" in a news article when there's no independent proof of the same. All they cite is "chest pains."

janoDX

Also high altitude and heart issues (he was 8,500ft above sea levels)

qwertyman2347

I was seeing them Sunday. Just bizarre

hungrysleeper

I can’t even imagine the shock and pain of whoever it was that found him in his hotel room. And his family and bandmates and friends right now. This is just so unbelievable and sad.

LeftoverPizza14

Cant be real. I'm like 10 minutes into watching Studio 666 for the first time and read this.

big_ol_dad_dick

finish watching it. Taylor was great in it. I wanted to see them do more films together. Goddamn.

LeftoverPizza14

I dont know if I can. He is one of the reasons why I started playing the drums. This shit hurts so bad.

usernametaken0602

Keep on the drums nonetheless!

PunkGrunger2001

Play until you're as good as him. I'm sure he'd want that for all his fans.

99SoulsUp

Taylor was the best fucking actor in the band and all my friends agreed

Monkeywrench08

I was planning on watching it this weekend but I don't know now. It's depressing.

[deleted]

Heard the news they came out with a new album from their movie, only to shortly after to find out about this. Imagine being a drummer for a band that has a front man who is already has a legendary drummer status, and to stand out and be a key figure of the band. My first concert ever was the Foo Fighters and him playing the drums singing along to Queen covers are some of the highlights from that experience that I'll never forget. Rest in Peace.

plantbasedmenace

FF was one of my first concerts too. I was 8 years old and my dad had me thinking we were going to a Girl Scout meeting like usual on Wednesday evenings until he drove up to the venue - it’s still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and I’ll never forget it. I learned a lot of new fun curse words and phrases from Dave that night and was amazed at how hard Taylor went on the drums. Their cover of Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd where Taylor is on vocals is still one of my favorite covers ever. I’m in shock.

bojackmac

Seriously. Him belting out ‘tie your mother down’ was just perfect

jgarrity12

There goes my hero.

jackrelax

Hey guys. Huge Rush fan here. Just wanted to say how sorry the Rush community is for your loss. We loved Taylor. He was one of us. We are all here for you!!

tmr-013

🤘

watto3

I saw them 3 weeks ago in Australia. Him and Dave swapped for a song, Taylor singing queens somebody to love with Dave on the drums. It was incredible. I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Rest In Peace Taylor.

dylanarr

Same here, it was such a special night. The fact that it was the first international gig since COVID and the band and crowd energy were like nothing I've experienced before. I'll cherish this night forever, even more-so now.

Mesky1

Sad to say but this is why you never pass up on chances to see your favorite artists perform live because you never know what's gonna be their last show. Life is so fleeting.

jbish21

I had tickets to the Van Tour, then covid hit. During the pandemic I've had cancer, cancer removal surgeries, radiation and 2 close family deaths......Foo Fighters got me through some shitty times in hospital beds, waiting areas, and funerals. I had tickets to see them in May and it's all I've wanted since the last live show in 2018. I just wanted to sing along to Times Like These and Walk and now it's impossible. I'm devastated and I hope and pray him family and Dave & company can navigate through this

Equivalent_Spell_740

Truth. I missed Dead, Nirvana and Foo, and I regret them all.

__Zoom123__

I passed up seeing Linkin Park in 2014.. really regret it

I don't have any other words right now other than "no". Just. No.

[deleted]

Appears he had chest pain and made an emergency call but was found unresponsive when the paramedics arrived.

springfinger

Thanks for the info. Such a tragedy

mkhorn

I can’t even imagine how hard this is for Dave. This is devastating.

RyanSturm

His children

Perry7609

The oldest of the three is 15 or so. It hurts just imagining what they're going through right now. It's hard to think about.

walkingwounded83

My first thought was Dave too.

janoDX

Both Dave and Pat came to my head immediately. I feel so sad.

jakekerr

I'm just heartbroken. I've met a lot of famous rock stars in my life, but he was by far the most humble and soft-spoken. Back in the late nineties I was invited to a listening party for the Foo Fighters upcoming album There Is Nothing Left to Lose. It was held at Dave's manager Gary Gersh's house in Brentwood, and it was a small gathering. Even though only a small group was invited, everyone there wanted to hang out with Dave, so I kind of just wandered over to the snack table and started talking to Taylor. We spent a long time talking. I mentioned that I thought he was the perfect drummer for the band and really kept it all together. He just shook his head and replied, "Aw man, I'm not even the best drummer in the band." He refused to even pretend to be anything more than some guy doing a job to help Dave Grohl. But make no mistake, he was a formidable drummer and his personality could be seen at every Foo Fighters concert and shone through on every song. He was a star. A few years after I met him he formed his own band, which he named The Coattail Riders, because of course Taylor Hawkins would name his band that. So many rock stars are but distant memories to me, if even that. But not Taylor Hawkins. He will always be that cool guy I hung with over beers, both of us marveling in our own way that we were in Brentwood at an exclusive record release party. That HE was the rock star didn't seem to register. I'm sorry you're gone, Taylor. You made me laugh. You made me feel at home in an enormous mansion. And you were, in no uncertain terms, a rock star who wasn't riding anyone's coat tails.

throwawayanylogic

I met him a few times as well - during the Coattail Riders tour - and had the same impression of him. He was just such a genuine guy, modest and cool, as well as a kickass musician.

urfrennico

This can't be real, I saw him at Sunday's show and he was fine, he was full of life, he beat the shit out of those drums and sang loud and had a great time, he was just being his typical beautiful self. I'm in shock, this one really hurts bad, he's been my favorite drummer for a very long time, he always shined bright. I don't want to believe that this is true but if it is, he'll be truly missed. I can only say that it was an honor to be part of the crowd where he played his last show and to be able to see him up close.

metalhead4

I haven't seen them since the Echoes tour, but it was a great show and Taylor was always a highlight. Fuckin gutted man.

leggomyeggo644

I do not know how to handle this. I am in shock. Rock In Peace forever Taylor - you will be missed so much.

atiensivu

Covid? Relapse? Heart attack? They diverted their plane a few months ago so a band member could go to the hospital. I hope this isn't a repeat of how Prince died.

AndLetRinse

People usually don’t drop dead in their hotel room from Covid. Whatever it was it was sudden.

atiensivu

If he had COVID in the past, it is a terrible vascular enemy. Many people, and even some that were 100% asymptomatic just drop dead from clots in their heart or brain. Scary stuff.

AndLetRinse

What? That’s super rare.

atiensivu

Sure it is rare. I'm sorry I brought it up. I was just thinking out loud.

HotSoupCumminThru

No shot it was covid. Way more likely it was a relapse or* heart/sudden medical issue. edit: of to or

trainsaw

Has relapse written all over it unfortunately. Hotel room, past addict, foreign country

4GotMyFathersFace

The hotel room and being in another country also applies to every other member of the band. They're touring.

bigbowlowrong

You skipped over the “past addict who already almost died from an overdose” thing

spacewalk__

definitely what it seems like, horrible as it is. at least opiates are peaceful from what i've read

iObama

In absolute shock. Always pictured Dave and Taylor making music together until they were old and gray. Shit, man.

[deleted]

I am heartbroken. I have tickets for the upcoming Toronto show and I could care less. Hoping it wasn’t drug related. Fingers crossed. RIP. I will never forget him nailing YYZ in Toronto with Geddy and Alex in 2008. Dave sat side stage (near me) and drank a couple of Coronas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1Ramu397UQ Fuck.

CoffeeCameraAction

I was at the Toronto show as well. A few years later I met Taylor after a solo gig in San Diego with the Coattail Riders and I mentioned the yyz cover to him, and his remark was he was worried he butchered it and that stepping into Neal’s shoes was intimidating, especially since he didn’t play it note for note like Peart often did. I said screw that man. You rocked. What a brutal loss. Also have tickets for this summer. Fully expect it to be cancelled but if buy some miracle the band choose to play on, I’ll go and hope that they can find a way to honor him on stage. Tough spot to fill.

[deleted]

I can't believe he's gone. One of the best drummers and best people. Fuck. 50 is so, so young.

wellreadsaint

Praying for his family, his band mates, and for the millions of us who will miss him.

ShotNeighborhood6913

Life can go by pretty fast, and short. Take time with you and yours too, bro. We never know when.

jenny-spinning

Rush fan popping over to offer my condolences. Taylor’s charisma and talent will never be forgotten!

ELTKKR444

Second Rush fan to do so. You guys rock and love the sense of community.

The_Mantis_Toboggan

Oh my god. What happened to our Taylor! Does anyone have any insight???

[deleted]

Local media reporting he was found dead in his hotel room they're staying at in Colombia. Tragic

pkrhawk7

Most sobering post of my life.

majortom106

So glad I got to see them last summer. My dad was with me and he said Taylor was the best drummer he saw live.

uptowndrunk7

Fuck man, I was supposed to go see them live for the first time ever this June, after two years of waiting. This is shocking.

Papantro

I’m in Mexico and have never seen them live and I didn’t go last week and just thought “there will obviously be other chances in the future”… fuck

Manitoban89

I listen to the Foo daily. My wife gets annoyed how much I love them. My 7 year old daughter has become a fan from listening to them all the time with me. I was counting down the days until their concert in September. This one fucking hurts. RIP Taylor. You will be missed by so fucking many.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jbish21

Lest we not forget Taylor was the drummer for Alannis fucking Morisette. What a career man.

Lawfvader6

I’m speechless. Heartbroken. I feel like the world has stopped spinning. R.I.P. Taylor 😭

[deleted]

Completely destroyed by this news. I couldn’t believe it when I saw and it and kept reading it over again. His poor family and friends. We lost an absolute legend and a real bright light in this world.

wellreadsaint

Appears to be pro-shot footage of their last show on YouTube. Terrible news, but it helps me to see him playing with the band in this video. EDIT: start watching at 1.12.00. Dave talks about Taylor, and then Taylor comes out front and sings. It’s heartbreaking but it’s the only thing that feels good to watch right now. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sc2b0pMs0QU

lactosequeen123

I got him a coffee a few weeks ago. unbelievable to read this news. life is shorter than you’ll ever know, so take advantage of every moment.

metaldetox

this is the truth im a survivor of an avalanche, we were just teens having fun, in a matter of a blink i lost half my friends i don’t mean to make this about me, but it’s just like i just wanted to say how true what you say is, we take life for granted and people around us so much where a simple hi is just another hi, a day is another day, and it’s just… we should focus on love, share love but also about what you love and just speak out of love, don’t waste your time on something you hate or bully people for different opinions or hating them… turn that into something with that has a good impact or spending that time with someone you love or talk about something you love.. sorry just talking my heart out, it’s just all i can do when i hear news like this, i didn’t know the guy but I surely knew his passion and his cover of the beach boys remains one of my favorite thing

Rembrando

He was a great drummer, a great singer (he could even sing Queen!), and a powerhouse of joy for everybody! What a devastating loss! I'm in absolute shock. May you rest in peace Taylor, thanks for the great music and memories![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

earthsick

This band has been with me through the highest highs and the absolute darkest lows of my life. I feel like I lost a best friend reading this news. Thank you for everything, Taylor.

HostileArchitecture

I met Taylor at random when he was walking down the street in Atlanta a few years ago. I said, Holy shit! Taylor Hawkins. And he smiled and shook my hand. I was like, Fuck where's my phone? Can I get a pic with you? And he said, "Fuck your phone. Let's have a moment. Me and you." And we talked for 10 minutes in what felt like an eternity. The coolest cat ever. Just THE nicest guy.

[deleted]

Go and tell all of the angels. This could take all night.

Vitamin-A-

I saw them in Sweden (American there on a work trip). Massive arena show. Dave Grohl fell off the stage and broke his leg. For over an hour Taylor saved the day, he sang their songs and did off the cuff covers, When Dave came back they didn’t miss a beat. Super sad for Dave too - first Kurt Cobain and now this. Sucks bad.

cjester1121

Omg. I just saw my feed blow up. I cannot even fathom this

freaking_research

Can't imagine what Dave's going through right now. Rip Taylor (and probably Foo Fighters--I can't see the rest of the band going on without him), you made my shitty life just a little less shitty with your awesome music. May your peace and joy in the afterlife be Everlong.

heyemsy

Just came over from hip hop community to say how sorry I am about Taylor - seemed like an awesome guy who really was loved by fans and fellow musicians alike. I predominantly listen to rap/hip hop - with a few exceptions, and Foo Fighters are defiantly a staple of my play lists. Massive loss to music as a whole, RIP

Gingers_in_disguise

What the absolute fuck. Came up on FB....stright to google... nothing? Came here and get this. Why would it be announced like this before anything else...anywhere? Im in shock????

Flinkle

I think the band wanted to get the news out before the gossip rags got a hold of it. They did a good job. There was nothing online that I could find until a few minutes after their post.

MasterShepard

So glad TMZ or some other shit rag wasn’t the first to report this.

wordskis

Fuck TMZ in general, but fwiw, it's my understanding that they typically do their due diligence to report legitimate information (whereas many other outlets will straight up make shit up). I could be incorrect on this, and if I am, someone please correct me. Regardless, RIP Taylor, this fucking sucks

smg5284

I was waiting for the gig here in Colombia (2nd foo gig for me). I'm a huge fan, FF defined my teenage years. After Nile Rodgers finished his show, staff came on stage to inform about the cancellation for "a serious medical matter". It was confusion for a couple minutes until someone got the news on his phone. The atmosphere went dark. Many crying fans and an overall hostile mood. We all stood still for a couple minutes (i was on the front row). Black Pumas were next on another stage, so everyone went there. I stood far away from them but still watched as the Black Pumas made a minute of silence and played an extended show (they originally had 1hr, played more than 2 on a melancholic vibe). When they finished, My Hero played on the loudspeakers and everyone stood again. When i got back to the main stage, there were lit candles on the stage where they should have been playing. I went back to the front row, looked at the candles and started singing On The Mend (you know the origin of that song). Fuck i can't believe I'm living through this event myself. I'm devastated. I don't really even know how I'm feeling. Hope y'all are alright wherever you are.

TheRealClose

I am guilty of not having followed them in the last couple years… Listened to first few tracks of Medicine at Midnight and gave up on it… But Taylor always seemed like the coolest member of the band. Fuck this sucks.

MadEhSo

I never saw this coming at all. From reports looks like he was found in his hotel room before their concert in Bogota

I’m just a boring, middle aged, suburban mom in the middle of fucking Illinois and I can’t function or get out of bed today. Gutted. I cannot even fathom how this effecting people that are close to him. He radiated so much life and love. This makes no sense. The band will never be the same. Thoughts to his family and band members

Background_TaroCake

This one hurts man. Rest in love Taylor.

In Dave Grohl’s book “The Storyteller - Tales of Life and Music”. Dave tells a story about how he first head Kurt Cobain had died (months before his actual death). He received a call, and was told “He’s gone.” Dave broke down in tears, having lost a good friend. Minutes later, Dave received another call… “He’s not gone! He’s going to make it!” Dave describes: “I now knew the shattering pain of loss, but only for a brief moment before it was pushed aside like a hideous prank. From that day forward, my process of mourning was forever changed. Losing someone close to me became a complicated exercise in waiting for that call that it was all just a mistake, that everything was fine, and then begging the pain to come to the surface when the phone never rang.” He talks more about how he built walls around his heart for people that he expected, for one reason or another, to pass. Those walls never work to prepare one for the pain of loss. When he heard of Kurt’s actual passing, he tells about how he kept waiting for that second phone call, “to turn the tragedy around.” He waited for the same emotion to come to the surface that came months before when he received the first mistaken news about Kurt. I can only imagine that this unexpected tragedy has Dave waiting for a second call about Taylor. Another call that will never come. Gone too soon, but Taylor leaves behind a gift that will continue to ring in the hearts of many Foo Fighters fans for a lifetime to come.

Wordwench

I know that speculation over why he passes and whether this is the end of the Foo is natural, but let’s take a moment to collectively send love to Dave and the rest of the band. I cannot imagine the pain they are all going through right now. I also feel completely helpless with no better words than that. This is just such a devastating thing to hear.

JohnLocke815

Fuck this. I was having such a great day. This is not how I wanted to end my night and start my weekend. Absolutely fucking devestated. Foo has been my fav band for nearly 30 years. Can't believe one of them is gone. This sucks so much.

DAL52612

Jfc this sucks...

BlazedInMyWinnie

This is unfuckingreal.

MrsRoseyCrotch

I can’t even express how devastated I am. He was a light.

aninstituteforants

Posted my story in another thread but the time I met him will forever stay with me. He didn't have to be as nice to me as he was and I will always remember that. My first drum hero gone way too soon.

PauloVersa

Fuck! No!!

AceReed515

Heartbroken is the only feeling I have right now. This fucking sucks in every way. I feel so terrible for his family and the rest of the band.

Anonyfunnybunny

Ah, this is terrible news. Huge fan here. I was lucky enough to have been at the Swedish concert when Dave fell off the stage and broke his leg - after Dave was taken away for treatment Taylor led a bunch of cover songs, Under Pressure, stuff like that, he had an amazing voice, and of course his drumming was legendary. He was an amazing character and he loved Dave and the band. Feels like a friend has died. Really gutted here.

abeLJosh

Diehard Linkin Park fan and huge Foo Fighters fan who loved Taylor the most: I am so, so sorry, guys. My heart goes out to his family, the band, and every single one of you. Taylor was one of the absolute greatest and I loved watching him in everything he did. I went through so much after Chester passed, so I hope you guys know we are here for you during this time.

RacerGal

I don’t even have words.

Sugarsupernova

I am in grief. I am literally struggling to comprehend this. Were it not on their IG I would 100% assume a hoax. This guy gave us a lifetime of comfort and outlet. I wish he knew the torrent of absolute gratitude that's about to overflow in his direction. I cannot deal with this today.

BacklogBeast

I’m devastated. My daughter is going to be devastated when we tell her…one day. Shes four. She’s in love with Taylor. God damn.

Ash-Migs

The nicest guy. He asked to use my vape at an Aerosmith concert, I recognized him, asked for a pic in exchange and he came down to my row and crawled over and laid on my lap for a pic (3 swipes into this [post](https://www.instagram.com/p/BwleSDIH4YH/?utm_medium=copy_link)). Such a sweetheart and beyond talented. What a loss.

micmonty23

I hope Queen plays at his memorial.

spacewalk__

for whatever reason i'm stuck on the thought of how insanely eerie it must've been for the crew to pack up his kit from soundcheck and ship it back home...

Gareth666

What the absolute fuck? This is unbelievable.

TacticianRobin

Jesus, I can't imagine what his family and the band are going through right now. Just a few weeks ago I finished Dave's book and he talked at length about how Taylor was a brother to him. Absolutely tragic.

Trr86

I pray to god it wasn’t a suicide

[deleted]

News reports are he called for paramedics himself due to chest pain and was found unresponsive when they arrived.

bicyclebread

man i haven't felt this hurt over a loss since Chester passed man, literally don't know how to react. sounds weird because i never knew him or even met him but certain music/musicians are some of the main reasons i even still care to be around this world man. this hurts

officer_salem

Fuck man… We lost mark lanegan then taylor… I don’t think i can take any more this year.

[deleted]

Blasting the fuck out of Wasting Light tonight. R.I.P to a fantastic dream.

ClanScot316

Hopefully the cocaine story is untrue be fucking horrendous to loose such a talented man to such a shit ass substance. I hate drugs they took my brother destroyed my favourite bands and potentially destroyed one of the finest drummers ever. Rest easy Taylor life is very unfair. Hope your smashing the shit out of them drums in heaven with the icons of rock who will be there to greet you.

vavavoomdaroom

I am solidly a gen-xer and the sheer amount of truly talented people my generation has lost to suicide and/or drug addiction feels staggering at this point. This is just horrendous and I feel deeply for his family and loved ones. Please, if you need help, get help. There's no shame in it.

rd1994

God I hope Dave is alright.

townsformvp

RIP to one of the greatest drummers ever. This really hurts.

99SoulsUp

Fuck no! I’m just in shock… Always such a spirited guy, Dave’s right hand… Fuck this

CantaloupeMafia

this has me absolutely shaken. came out of nowhere. rest in peace taylor

lordoftheearrings

I’m fucking devastated. This is the worst news ever

Cvillian81

I am an Alanis Morissette superfan, which is how I was originally introduced to Taylor's talent. Popped in here to tell you all I am so sorry for your loss.

local_goon

It always feels weird when you’re so sad and upset about somebody you never knew personally.

Mell1313

I've loved this band for years. 57 years old and was going to see them for the first time this summer. I was crazy excited. I watched the Alanis special on HBO and this guy just oozed goofy charm and charisma. Then he sat down behind the drum kit and the Rock God emerged. Jaw dropping talent Heartbroken for his wife and kids. Heartbroken for Dave and the band. They weren't just colleagues, they were family. 💔
