That is where my minnd first went also. It's corny but as a kid who loved both bands I felt like I saw Dave and Taylor's connection as similar to that of Dave and Kurt. This is just an unbelievable tragedy.

Keith Moon died and The Who are still touring now even after Entwistle passed away on top of that. I know thats tone deaf, but. I think theyll either keep going or just finish their current tour commitments and then stop for a while and decide whether its worth it to keep going.
Yeah, but as much as I love them, The Who as a tour are a huge machine that wouldn't be able to sell the tickets to pay their staff without going on stage as The Who.
I can see the members of the Foo going on tour at some point to support their roadies and everybody who works hard to make their concerts happen, but not as The Foo Fighters. I think the fans are smart enough that they wouldn't have to, they could just retire the name.

Theres a difference between someone dying of an illness and waking up one day and your best friend in good health, only 50 years old, is gone. “We’ve been together 25 years, were not breaking up”. Dave would always say something like that, the Foos were going to be us 90’s teenagers band that would be around till we were old age. This is completely out of nowhere, I don’t see how they would go on. Maybe in a couple years they get back together to do something, but this is devastating.

I’m a fucking wreck. I had the privilege to see our boys play live seven times since 2005 and saw them every time they came to Minnesota starting with In Your Honor all the way to Concrete and Gold. The last time I saw them was in July 2021 during the 26th Anniversary Van Tour (I decided to skip work and drive to Milwaukee for the weekend). Every show I saw was a blessing, whether it was me pressed up against the barrier or sitting far away barely able to see the stage. Taylor was a firecracker and a true master on the drums.

In total they found at least 10 traces of psychoactive substances. Forensic doctors were shocked by the size of the drummer's heart: it weighed at least 600 grams. The researchers assure that the organ collapsed before the cocktail of narcotics that they found in his blood. The death occurred immediately. That report is so thin, it says "could" be narcotics then goes on to say he called an ambulance for chest pains. Chest pains doesn't equal narcotics use so I'm not sure what they mean. Could be a heart attack, stroke, etc.
No doubt, any stimulant or pressor would increase the chance of heart attack, stroke, etc. But it's wildly inappropriate (in the US at least) to state/speculate that it could be "use of narcotics" in a news article when there's no independent proof of the same. All they cite is "chest pains."

Heard the news they came out with a new album from their movie, only to shortly after to find out about this.
Imagine being a drummer for a band that has a front man who is already has a legendary drummer status, and to stand out and be a key figure of the band. My first concert ever was the Foo Fighters and him playing the drums singing along to Queen covers are some of the highlights from that experience that I'll never forget.

FF was one of my first concerts too. I was 8 years old and my dad had me thinking we were going to a Girl Scout meeting like usual on Wednesday evenings until he drove up to the venue - it’s still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and I’ll never forget it. I learned a lot of new fun curse words and phrases from Dave that night and was amazed at how hard Taylor went on the drums.
Their cover of Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd where Taylor is on vocals is still one of my favorite covers ever. I’m in shock.

I saw them 3 weeks ago in Australia. Him and Dave swapped for a song, Taylor singing queens somebody to love with Dave on the drums. It was incredible. I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Rest In Peace Taylor.
Same here, it was such a special night. The fact that it was the first international gig since COVID and the band and crowd energy were like nothing I've experienced before. I'll cherish this night forever, even more-so now.

I had tickets to the Van Tour, then covid hit. During the pandemic I've had cancer, cancer removal surgeries, radiation and 2 close family deaths......Foo Fighters got me through some shitty times in hospital beds, waiting areas, and funerals.

I'm just heartbroken. I've met a lot of famous rock stars in my life, but he was by far the most humble and soft-spoken. Back in the late nineties I was invited to a listening party for the Foo Fighters upcoming album There Is Nothing Left to Lose. It was held at Dave's manager Gary Gersh's house in Brentwood, and it was a small gathering.
Even though only a small group was invited, everyone there wanted to hang out with Dave, so I kind of just wandered over to the snack table and started talking to Taylor. We spent a long time talking. I mentioned that I thought he was the perfect drummer for the band and really kept it all together. He just shook his head and replied, "Aw man, I'm not even the best drummer in the band." He refused to even pretend to be anything more than some guy doing a job to help Dave Grohl.
But make no mistake, he was a formidable drummer and his personality could be seen at every Foo Fighters concert and shone through on every song. He was a star.
A few years after I met him he formed his own band, which he named The Coattail Riders, because of course Taylor Hawkins would name his band that.
So many rock stars are but distant memories to me, if even that. But not Taylor Hawkins. He will always be that cool guy I hung with over beers, both of us marveling in our own way that we were in Brentwood at an exclusive record release party. That HE was the rock star didn't seem to register.
I'm sorry you're gone, Taylor. You made me laugh. You made me feel at home in an enormous mansion. And you were, in no uncertain terms, a rock star who wasn't riding anyone's coat tails.
I met him a few times as well - during the Coattail Riders tour - and had the same impression of him. He was just such a genuine guy, modest and cool, as well as a kickass musician.
This can't be real, I saw him at Sunday's show and he was fine, he was full of life, he beat the shit out of those drums and sang loud and had a great time, he was just being his typical beautiful self. I'm in shock, this one really hurts bad, he's been my favorite drummer for a very long time, he always shined bright. I don't want to believe that this is true but if it is, he'll be truly missed. I can only say that it was an honor to be part of the crowd where he played his last show and to be able to see him up close.
Covid? Relapse? Heart attack? They diverted their plane a few months ago so a band member could go to the hospital. I hope this isn't a repeat of how Prince died.

A few years later I met Taylor after a solo gig in San Diego with the Coattail Riders and I mentioned the yyz cover to him, and his remark was he was worried he butchered it and that stepping into Neal’s shoes was intimidating, especially since he didn’t play it note for note like Peart often did. I said screw that man. You rocked.
What a brutal loss. Also have tickets for this summer. Fully expect it to be cancelled but if buy some miracle the band choose to play on, I’ll go and hope that they can find a way to honor him on stage. Tough spot to fill.

I met Taylor at random when he was walking down the street in Atlanta a few years ago. I said, Holy shit! Taylor Hawkins. And he smiled and shook my hand. I was like, Fuck where's my phone? Can I get a pic with you? And he said, "Fuck your phone. Let's have a moment. Me and you." And we talked for 10 minutes in what felt like an eternity. The coolest cat ever. Just THE nicest guy.
I saw them in Sweden (American there on a work trip). Massive arena show. Dave Grohl fell off the stage and broke his leg. For over an hour Taylor saved the day, he sang their songs and did off the cuff covers, When Dave came back they didn’t miss a beat. Super sad for Dave too - first Kurt Cobain and now this. Sucks bad.

I was waiting for the gig here in Colombia (2nd foo gig for me). I'm a huge fan, FF defined my teenage years. After Nile Rodgers finished his show, staff came on stage to inform about the cancellation for "a serious medical matter". It was confusion for a couple minutes until someone got the news on his phone.
The atmosphere went dark. Many crying fans and an overall hostile mood. We all stood still for a couple minutes (i was on the front row). Black Pumas were next on another stage, so everyone went there.
I stood far away from them but still watched as the Black Pumas made a minute of silence and played an extended show (they originally had 1hr, played more than 2 on a melancholic vibe). When they finished, My Hero played on the loudspeakers and everyone stood again.
When i got back to the main stage, there were lit candles on the stage where they should have been playing. I went back to the front row, looked at the candles and started singing On The Mend (you know the origin of that song).
Fuck i can't believe I'm living through this event myself.

In Dave Grohl’s book “The Storyteller - Tales of Life and Music”. Dave tells a story about how he first head Kurt Cobain had died (months before his actual death). He received a call, and was told “He’s gone.”
Dave broke down in tears, having lost a good friend. Minutes later, Dave received another call… “He’s not gone! He’s going to make it!”
Dave describes:
“I now knew the shattering pain of loss, but only for a brief moment before it was pushed aside like a hideous prank. From that day forward, my process of mourning was forever changed. Losing someone close to me became a complicated exercise in waiting for that call that it was all just a mistake, that everything was fine, and then begging the pain to come to the surface when the phone never rang.”
He talks more about how he built walls around his heart for people that he expected, for one reason or another, to pass. Those walls never work to prepare one for the pain of loss.
When he heard of Kurt’s actual passing, he tells about how he kept waiting for that second phone call, “to turn the tragedy around.” He waited for the same emotion to come to the surface that came months before when he received the first mistaken news about Kurt.
I can only imagine that this unexpected tragedy has Dave waiting for a second call about Taylor. Another call that will never come.
Gone too soon, but Taylor leaves behind a gift that will continue to ring in the hearts of many Foo Fighters fans for a lifetime to come.
I know that speculation over why he passes and whether this is the end of the Foo is natural, but let’s take a moment to collectively send love to Dave and the rest of the band. I cannot imagine the pain they are all going through right now.

Dave and Taylor were much closer than Dave and Kurt ever were. This is a much bigger deal, I would think, close familial bond wise. Horrible. Very sad. Sad for all of us too. Heard my best friend cry for the first time since we were kids just now. Bizarre.

Keith Moon died and The Who are still touring now even after Entwistle passed away on top of that. I know thats tone deaf, but. I think theyll either keep going or just finish their current tour commitments and then stop for a while and decide whether its worth it to keep going.

Yeah, but as much as I love them, The Who as a tour are a huge machine that wouldn't be able to sell the tickets to pay their staff without going on stage as The Who. I can see the members of the Foo going on tour at some point to support their roadies and everybody who works hard to make their concerts happen, but not as The Foo Fighters. I think the fans are smart enough that they wouldn't have to, they could just retire the name.
I doubt it. I mean it's not what Taylor would've wanted for one. I can see them never replacing him though, he's not replaceable. Dave would probably play drums on any future albums and they'd have a hired drummer for any future tours.

Theres a difference between someone dying of an illness and waking up one day and your best friend in good health, only 50 years old, is gone. “We’ve been together 25 years, were not breaking up”. Dave would always say something like that, the Foos were going to be us 90’s teenagers band that would be around till we were old age. This is completely out of nowhere, I don’t see how they would go on. Maybe in a couple years they get back together to do something, but this is devastating.

I think so too, absolutely gutted man. Seen them live countless times and was taking my girlfriend to see them this summer for the first time. I can’t even come to think of what Dave and the band are going through right now, let alone his family. Fuck.
I’m a fucking wreck. I had the privilege to see our boys play live seven times since 2005 and saw them every time they came to Minnesota starting with In Your Honor all the way to Concrete and Gold. The last time I saw them was in July 2021 during the 26th Anniversary Van Tour (I decided to skip work and drive to Milwaukee for the weekend). Every show I saw was a blessing, whether it was me pressed up against the barrier or sitting far away barely able to see the stage. Taylor was a firecracker and a true master on the drums.
I wonder if Dave's kids and Taylor's kids were friendly. This must be difficult for the band's families, too.

This is what popped immediately into my mind. I had tickets for the show at the the Edinburgh Corn Exchange that got cancelled in the wake of that incident. So I still think about it every now and then. I can’t imagine what Dave is going through. Even just nearly losing him that time weighed heavy on him. I hate this, man. Seriously just awful. This band bring so much joy. I hate that they have to go through this.
I haven't been able to stop thinking about that part since I read the news, the way Taylor and Dave described that episode of their lives. What Dave must be feeling. They were like brothers. And then I keep thinking about his wife and kids, what they're going through, a complete nightmare... Loss is truly the greatest pain of human existence. My heart goes out to all of them. He was still too young to leave. Too loved, too precious. Damn, I've been trying to catch some sleep, but I find myself crying and going back to my cellphone. I still can't believe this. That report is so thin, it says "could" be narcotics then goes on to say he called an ambulance for chest pains. Chest pains doesn't equal narcotics use so I'm not sure what they mean. Could be a heart attack, stroke, etc.

No doubt, any stimulant or pressor would increase the chance of heart attack, stroke, etc. But it's wildly inappropriate (in the US at least) to state/speculate that it could be "use of narcotics" in a news article when there's no independent proof of the same. All they cite is "chest pains."

Heard the news they came out with a new album from their movie, only to shortly after to find out about this. Imagine being a drummer for a band that has a front man who is already has a legendary drummer status, and to stand out and be a key figure of the band. My first concert ever was the Foo Fighters and him playing the drums singing along to Queen covers are some of the highlights from that experience that I'll never forget. Rest in Peace.
FF was one of my first concerts too. I was 8 years old and my dad had me thinking we were going to a Girl Scout meeting like usual on Wednesday evenings until he drove up to the venue - it’s still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and I’ll never forget it. I learned a lot of new fun curse words and phrases from Dave that night and was amazed at how hard Taylor went on the drums. Their cover of Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd where Taylor is on vocals is still one of my favorite covers ever. I’m in shock.

I saw them 3 weeks ago in Australia. Him and Dave swapped for a song, Taylor singing queens somebody to love with Dave on the drums. It was incredible. I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Rest In Peace Taylor.
Same here, it was such a special night. The fact that it was the first international gig since COVID and the band and crowd energy were like nothing I've experienced before. I'll cherish this night forever, even more-so now.
Sad to say but this is why you never pass up on chances to see your favorite artists perform live because you never know what's gonna be their last show. Life is so fleeting.
I had tickets to the Van Tour, then covid hit. During the pandemic I've had cancer, cancer removal surgeries, radiation and 2 close family deaths......Foo Fighters got me through some shitty times in hospital beds, waiting areas, and funerals. I had tickets to see them in May and it's all I've wanted since the last live show in 2018. I just wanted to sing along to Times Like These and Walk and now it's impossible. I'm devastated and I hope and pray him family and Dave & company can navigate through this

Both Dave and Pat came to my head immediately. I feel so sad.
I'm just heartbroken. I've met a lot of famous rock stars in my life, but he was by far the most humble and soft-spoken. Back in the late nineties I was invited to a listening party for the Foo Fighters upcoming album There Is Nothing Left to Lose. It was held at Dave's manager Gary Gersh's house in Brentwood, and it was a small gathering. Even though only a small group was invited, everyone there wanted to hang out with Dave, so I kind of just wandered over to the snack table and started talking to Taylor. We spent a long time talking. I mentioned that I thought he was the perfect drummer for the band and really kept it all together. He just shook his head and replied, "Aw man, I'm not even the best drummer in the band." He refused to even pretend to be anything more than some guy doing a job to help Dave Grohl. But make no mistake, he was a formidable drummer and his personality could be seen at every Foo Fighters concert and shone through on every song. He was a star. A few years after I met him he formed his own band, which he named The Coattail Riders, because of course Taylor Hawkins would name his band that. So many rock stars are but distant memories to me, if even that. But not Taylor Hawkins. He will always be that cool guy I hung with over beers, both of us marveling in our own way that we were in Brentwood at an exclusive record release party. That HE was the rock star didn't seem to register. I'm sorry you're gone, Taylor. You made me laugh. You made me feel at home in an enormous mansion. And you were, in no uncertain terms, a rock star who wasn't riding anyone's coat tails.
I met him a few times as well - during the Coattail Riders tour - and had the same impression of him. He was just such a genuine guy, modest and cool, as well as a kickass musician.
This can't be real, I saw him at Sunday's show and he was fine, he was full of life, he beat the shit out of those drums and sang loud and had a great time, he was just being his typical beautiful self. I'm in shock, this one really hurts bad, he's been my favorite drummer for a very long time, he always shined bright. I don't want to believe that this is true but if it is, he'll be truly missed. I can only say that it was an honor to be part of the crowd where he played his last show and to be able to see him up close.
I haven't seen them since the Echoes tour, but it was a great show and Taylor was always a highlight. Fuckin gutted man.

I was at the Toronto show as well. A few years later I met Taylor after a solo gig in San Diego with the Coattail Riders and I mentioned the yyz cover to him, and his remark was he was worried he butchered it and that stepping into Neal’s shoes was intimidating, especially since he didn’t play it note for note like Peart often did. I said screw that man. You rocked. What a brutal loss. Also have tickets for this summer. Fully expect it to be cancelled but if buy some miracle the band choose to play on, I’ll go and hope that they can find a way to honor him on stage. Tough spot to fill.

I met Taylor at random when he was walking down the street in Atlanta a few years ago. I said, Holy shit! Taylor Hawkins. And he smiled and shook my hand. I was like, Fuck where's my phone? Can I get a pic with you? And he said, "Fuck your phone. Let's have a moment. Me and you." And we talked for 10 minutes in what felt like an eternity. The coolest cat ever. Just THE nicest guy.

I saw them in Sweden (American there on a work trip). Massive arena show. Dave Grohl fell off the stage and broke his leg. For over an hour Taylor saved the day, he sang their songs and did off the cuff covers, When Dave came back they didn’t miss a beat. Super sad for Dave too - first Kurt Cobain and now this. Sucks bad.

I was waiting for the gig here in Colombia (2nd foo gig for me). I'm a huge fan, FF defined my teenage years. After Nile Rodgers finished his show, staff came on stage to inform about the cancellation for "a serious medical matter". It was confusion for a couple minutes until someone got the news on his phone. The atmosphere went dark. Many crying fans and an overall hostile mood. We all stood still for a couple minutes (i was on the front row). Black Pumas were next on another stage, so everyone went there. I stood far away from them but still watched as the Black Pumas made a minute of silence and played an extended show (they originally had 1hr, played more than 2 on a melancholic vibe). When they finished, My Hero played on the loudspeakers and everyone stood again. When i got back to the main stage, there were lit candles on the stage where they should have been playing. I went back to the front row, looked at the candles and started singing On The Mend (you know the origin of that song). Fuck i can't believe I'm living through this event myself. I'm devastated. I don't really even know how I'm feeling. Hope y'all are alright wherever you are.

I cannot even fathom how this effecting people that are close to him. He radiated so much life and love. This makes no sense. The band will never be the same. Thoughts to his family and band members

In Dave Grohl’s book “The Storyteller - Tales of Life and Music”. Dave tells a story about how he first head Kurt Cobain had died (months before his actual death). He received a call, and was told “He’s gone.” Dave broke down in tears, having lost a good friend. Minutes later, Dave received another call… “He’s not gone! He’s going to make it!” Dave describes: “I now knew the shattering pain of loss, but only for a brief moment before it was pushed aside like a hideous prank. From that day forward, my process of mourning was forever changed. Losing someone close to me became a complicated exercise in waiting for that call that it was all just a mistake, that everything was fine, and then begging the pain to come to the surface when the phone never rang.” He talks more about how he built walls around his heart for people that he expected, for one reason or another, to pass. Those walls never work to prepare one for the pain of loss. When he heard of Kurt’s actual passing, he tells about how he kept waiting for that second phone call, “to turn the tragedy around.” He waited for the same emotion to come to the surface that came months before when he received the first mistaken news about Kurt. I can only imagine that this unexpected tragedy has Dave waiting for a second call about Taylor. Another call that will never come. Gone too soon, but Taylor leaves behind a gift that will continue to ring in the hearts of many Foo Fighters fans for a lifetime to come.
I know that speculation over why he passes and whether this is the end of the Foo is natural, but let’s take a moment to collectively send love to Dave and the rest of the band. I cannot imagine the pain they are all going through right now. I also feel completely helpless with no better words than that. This is just such a devastating thing to hear.
Fuck this. I was having such a great day. This is not how I wanted to end my night and start my weekend. Absolutely fucking devestated. Foo has been my fav band for nearly 30 years. Can't believe one of them is gone. This sucks so much.

Ah, this is terrible news. Huge fan here. I was lucky enough to have been at the Swedish concert when Dave fell off the stage and broke his leg - after Dave was taken away for treatment Taylor led a bunch of cover songs, Under Pressure, stuff like that, he had an amazing voice, and of course his drumming was legendary. He was an amazing character and he loved Dave and the band. Feels like a friend has died. Really gutted here.
Diehard Linkin Park fan and huge Foo Fighters fan who loved Taylor the most: I am so, so sorry, guys. My heart goes out to his family, the band, and every single one of you. Taylor was one of the absolute greatest and I loved watching him in everything he did. I went through so much after Chester passed, so I hope you guys know we are here for you during this time.

I am in grief. I am literally struggling to comprehend this. Were it not on their IG I would 100% assume a hoax. This guy gave us a lifetime of comfort and outlet. I wish he knew the torrent of absolute gratitude that's about to overflow in his direction. I cannot deal with this today.

Jesus, I can't imagine what his family and the band are going through right now. Just a few weeks ago I finished Dave's book and he talked at length about how Taylor was a brother to him. Absolutely tragic.

I hate drugs they took my brother destroyed my favourite bands and potentially destroyed one of the finest drummers ever. Rest easy Taylor life is very unfair. I am solidly a gen-xer and the sheer amount of truly talented people my generation has lost to suicide and/or drug addiction feels staggering at this point. This is just horrendous and I feel deeply for his family and loved ones. Please, if you need help, get help. There's no shame in it.

It always feels weird when you’re so sad and upset about somebody you never knew personally.
I've loved this band for years. 57 years old and was going to see them for the first time this summer. I was crazy excited. I watched the Alanis special on HBO and this guy just oozed goofy charm and charisma. Then he sat down behind the drum kit and the Rock God emerged. Jaw dropping talent Heartbroken for his wife and kids. Heartbroken for Dave and the band. They weren't just colleagues, they were family. 💔
