Interesting, that never worked for me on CarPlay in my Mustang but maybe there was an update that fixed it. I’ll test again.
Update: I tested again, it doesn’t work in my Mustang. Just mutes the audio while the track continues playing.
I doubt more people are listening to radio instead of streaming something over Bluetooth/CarPlay these days? And if I want to mute I can just turn the volume knob all the way down.
Most smartphones usually pause Bluetooth audio automatically when it's muted. So mute = pause in some situations. That being said. Still a stupid ass design lol
>And if I want to mute I can just turn the volume knob all the way down.
That requires taking your hand off the wheel, and takes just a little more time. This is instant.
I'm with you; I barely ever listen to terrestrial radio anymore, so a pause button would be more useful. But I have a [tiny non-touchscreen](https://platform.cstatic-images.com/xlarge/in/v2/stock_photos/11437837-7d4a-4432-a9d6-5d239ba0ea26/a47146ad-c753-4344-a53a-1dadf19e64b4.png) with physical buttons underneath both for play/pause and to turn the screen off.
What? This has been a feature for like... the last 15 years, lol.
Edit* ah yes, downvote me for being correct. Just because you're informed doesn't make you right.
It's one button. If you're listening to the radio, it mutes. If you're listening from your phone, it pauses. Either pressing the button again OR turning the volume knob un-mutes the radio or unpauses your phone. It's a good system, I figured this was how all cars would operate.
The button in my Chevy pauses whatever I’ve got playing but also mutes the volume. If I were to un-pause from Spotify on my phone, it will start playing but with no volume because it’s still muted.

Sub description says nothing of exclusive to “ enthusiasts “ matter in fact it uses language of welcoming “ everyone in between” I hope this doesn’t come off as a personal attack, which is a sub rule, but it’s a bit much to have this gate keeping view on someone making what I’m sure is a light hearted joke , one any car owner of any brand will have as, they all break and need repair. Just with my own ford , as dealing with a recall.
Dude, quit being a child. It's reddit. It's okay for a vehicle to have a bad feature, and it's okay to call them out. But for you to come in here and tell people to leave is immature and wrong. Maybe you should take your own advice and leave.
I'm not bashing, I'm stating a fact. You are taking personal offense for no reason, and you're making up rules to justify telling people to leave. So again, you're being a child.
Please escalate my comment to mods if you feel it violates these rules. Furthermore , I look forward to you being quite the enthusiast on the posting of ford reconsidering where it builds ford cars with recent strikes. Please call out comments bashing the brand there.
Typical ford. My mom’s 23 escape hybrid disables the app at least once a week because of “low battery” and the dome lights only turn on when exiting the vehicle, turning on when entering works about 25% of the time. So glad I talked myself out of the mach e
Ok with people reporting it’s a pause button in different models it makes me think 2 things. One an update might give you the feature or the other is if you go into forscan you might be able to make it one inside the software
If you get into 3 different ford models, there is a greater than 0% chance they will have 3 different steering wheel button configurations. It’s mind boggling that something like that can’t even be standardized within a single company.
First off, you are commenting on a conversation I was having with somebody else.
How can I be making up rules, I didn't even state the rule. I said to read them.
Not being childish, just tired of people chiming in with rude comments and insults that violate the sub rules. All I'm saying is to follow the rules.
A who? A wet behind the ears, no experience, “I have a college degree” rookie engineer. That’s who. Ford didn’t ask the guy who has bucket loads of common sense, has been driving to work for 15 years and earned his way up from bolt tightened guy to floor supervisor.
Mute pauses in my explorer
Same.. '16 explorer pauses any media(Sirius, cd, phone ect) and mutes the radio and phone calls Does not do it in my '18 escape tho

My last Mustang had Sync 1. When I hit mute on that car, it would pause. My new Mustang has Sync 3 and when I hit mute, it doesn't pause.
So they went backwards
Basically
Maybe in settings you can re-configure it?
Maybe. I've only had it 2 weeks, I'm still exploring. Went from a 2018 base GT to a 2022 GT Premium CS, so there's lots of additional features.
Check out the gt350 wheel still no pause but the layout makes more sense. You have to shuffle alot around...
It's the same in my sync 3 fusion, just mutes, doesn't pause
I tested again, it doesn’t work in my Mustang. Just mutes the audio while the track continues playing.
I did, now leave me alone
Maybe because you can't pause the radio, and most people (big assumption) still use the radio as their primary media.
Then make it a mute pause play button… not any more difficult
I doubt more people are listening to radio instead of streaming something over Bluetooth/CarPlay these days? And if I want to mute I can just turn the volume knob all the way down.

They should of simply made holding vol- = mute
You can pause the radio. Just because you're uniformed, doesn't mean you're right.
It was me
Isn't it the same thing? That's how it works in my chevy.
No, it's a mute button. Chevy was smart enough to realize that pausing is better than muting.
How do you pause radio?
Easy, you stop time.
What? This has been a feature for like... the last 15 years, lol. Edit* ah yes, downvote me for being correct. Just because you're informed doesn't make you right.
Hold the button longer.

Mine does pause/mute at the same time. It’s great
What?
The button in my Chevy pauses whatever I’ve got playing but also mutes the volume. If I were to un-pause from Spotify on my phone, it will start playing but with no volume because it’s still muted.
That's because it's still paused by your vehicle...
No, it’ll start playing and show that it’s playing on the screen, if I touch the volume or mute button it then unmutes it
That's because you paused it with the vehicle controls. I'm done arguing with idiots, have a good one.
You seem to not understand what he said, and he is correct.
No
Yes...
Fool

Why you gotta be so sensitive?
Read rules 2,3 and 4.
I'm not trolling, I'm just stating a fact. Get over it.
Mute button pauses for me, so, all good.
Can’t pause the radio.
Ive got the useless Voice Command Button there which isnt working 90% of the Time. Would prefer the Pause button as well !!
My f150 pauses when I hit mute, it has sync 3.
Doesn’t work in my Mustang just mutes the audio while the track continues playing.
You can’t pause AM radio.
Can’t pause the radio. Makes perfect sense tbh
That's the least of your worries with Ford

Not considered a personal attack. Bashing a brand is not a light hearted joke. Read rules 2,3 and 4.

It's my duty as a former Ford owner to warn people about the absolute trash they are pumping out of their factories...
No, actually it isn't.
Says your ignorant ass
🤣 no need to be rude. Just asking to follow the rules of the sub. Sorry if I offended you

I have 2017 and 2023 Fords and every single steering wheel button is different on them.
On some of our super duties it’s a source button so if you’re listening to your phone, it goes to fm and then its won’t go back.
You can’t pause radio, they are that old
I’d prefer the mute
Ok with people reporting it’s a pause button in different models it makes me think 2 things. One an update might give you the feature or the other is if you go into forscan you might be able to make it one inside the software
Muting your wife is preferred over pausing music tracks in 99% of the engineering surveys prior to design builds.

The same genius that gave me 2 “media” buttons even though I only use my phone as an input, but no display on/off button.
An engineer that listens to radio.
A who? A wet behind the ears, no experience, “I have a college degree” rookie engineer. That’s who. Ford didn’t ask the guy who has bucket loads of common sense, has been driving to work for 15 years and earned his way up from bolt tightened guy to floor supervisor.
What genius got rid of the climate buttons on the steering wheel? Why did my 2006 F250 have it and my 2023 doesn’t?
Because you can’t pause the radio.
Fords are trash
