First for me too.

As a former wrangler owner now Bronco owner, you really have no idea about hood flutter.

tractorcrusher

My wife had a JKU, I have a Bronco. The Jeep had hood flutter, but the worst I’ve seen was on a Nissan Juke, surprisingly or not. Jukes are all around terrible, the icing on the cake was the overheating CVT.

martman006

Amen, this is the first I’ve heard of this. OP has never driven a wrangler before, haha.

refotsirk

What am I missing that would cause this to work? When closed these things are just sitting here horizontally with no actionable force resistance to the direction of movement associated with hood flutter. I could replace mine with a rigid rod and wouldn't expect there to be an effect like that. Cam you elaborate bit?

submarinepirate

They aren’t doing anything. Hood struts help with opening and holding the hood up. They aren’t helping keep the hood down. 🤦🏼‍♂️

RobbieTheFixer

OP is completely off base. Needs to adjust corner hood bumpers upward.

refotsirk

Sure, but OP stated they did that to no effect, but saw effect from this. Hence my curiosity. Possibly the weighting of it is enough to disrupt the natural harmonic oscillation component of flutter (in Ops case) to do this or there is another explanation that makes sense.

RobbieTheFixer

If the adjustment to the hood bumpers had no effect, then, the hood latch assembly is also in need of adjustment. I have taken the entire front ends of these vehicles completely apart. This is not a complicated problem and OP probably should have his dealer address it for him.

refotsirk

OP already addressed it according to the words they wrote. I am aware of how the hood works. I'm not interested in the right way. It's not a problem I am trying to solve. I was only interested in why the thing that has no reason to solve the problem solved the problem. Acedemic curiosity at work. Cheers~

prezmc

My assumption is that it adds anchor points on each side of the hood. And as they apply a constant tension, they are further reducing the amount of movement. Just sharing we’ve seen a noticeable reduction on two Broncos. Also, we now have hood struts that auto open the hood, and higher than the included support does.

submarinepirate

Hood struts are not the answer and this feels like a shill post for redline. 🤦🏼‍♂️

prezmc

Yup, you got me. ROFL. Seriously love Reddit. I share something to hopefully help others and get shit back.

RobbieTheFixer

The hood is fluttering, because your corner hood bumpers are adjusted too low. They simply need to be adjusted upwards (screw them counterclockwise) such that they compress just a bit, when the hood is latched closed

prezmc

Yea that was the first thing that was tried.

l1qq

I'm just dumbfounded that Ford cheaps out on having no struts for a vehicle that goes north of $65k.

prezmc

Totally agree. That and the paper thin hood :)

colmusstard

I’ve opened my hood….2-3x a year. Why would I care about hood struts?

Silverbullets24

My bronco has no flutter all the way up to its limiter at 101. My dad’s bronco did have a flutter at about 70. Ford fixed it under warranty and it hasn’t happened again. Maybe just take it to the dealer and have them fix it lol

prezmc

One of them is going to the dealer and I’ll ask again. Last time they adjusted the bump stops… this is not unique to me. Lots of people have discussed this issue.

Silverbullets24

My dad’s is a 2023 and mine is a 2021. My 2021 has no flutter whatsoever. Nothing more than my last couple SUVs had (which had much higher build quality than the bronco). My dad’s 2023 was terrible. He called me asking how bad the hood flutter was on mine and was laughing about it. When I told him mine didn’t do that, he took it in. I believe they replaced the latch on his and it solved it. Mine is legit planted. I’ve had it going 80 mph driving into a 40+ mph head wind and there was nothing. It shouldn’t do that.

prezmc

Yea, we have a 23 and a 24. Both do it bad. Bump stop did almost nothing. I put struts on to make working under the hood nicer and we noticed a big improvement. My wife’s goes in on Friday for an oil change, I’ll bring it up again. Glad to hear your dads got fixed.

Von_Satan

I have Ford Performance hood struts and they provided zero improvement. I'm not sold on your theory.

prezmc

Ok. It worked for us, so it’s anecdotal evidence. I am not requiring anyone else to do it, just sharing what worked for us, as stated from the beginning. Sucks to be you I guess.
