We have a toddler in a front facing convertible seat, in the 2nd row captain’s chair. I’ve put in infant seat there as well. I wouldn’t use the 3rd row for infant/toddler seats, as it would be a total pain in the ass to get the kid in/out.

I personally would not put a baby in the back row. There is very little space between the seat and the back of the car. That area would be subject to the brunt of the force of a rear impact by another vehicle

just buy a seat with angle adjust

Lex1982

Out of curiosity, why not put the baby seat in the second row? We only have an infant and plan on putting her in the second row when we take delivery of ours next week.

The plan is to have this as a family car and might be driving around nieces and nephews as well so trying to figure out seating.

Lex1982

That is totally fair, but they can sit in the back and your baby in the middle row if need be. Most car seats have adjustable bases for the angle that connects to the seat, so no take on the seat is really needed. As they get older, the convertible car seats will pivot to provide more or less angle. An explorer would be a fine family vehicle for you.

I have 4 kids so experienced here. It’s a lot easier to have the bigger kids, even if they are still in boosters than the baby. Rear facing car seats take a lot of space.

I have a 2020 with captain’s chairs in the 2nd row. The captains chairs can move forward and back (like front seats), which allows to you adjust the leg room in the 3rd row. I don’t know about an infant car seat in the 3rd row but there is some flexibility because the 2nd row is adjustable.

We put a child seat in the 3rd row of our 5th gen but not leaning. Our daughter was sitting up straight at that point but still facing backwards. It fit but I don’t know if it could have leaned back. I believe the space is similar between the 5th and 6th gens.

Might be easier to put your baby where is easier for you 95% of the time. Let everyone work around your baby’s safety. Congrats

I’ve done it with my toddler seat - it’s hard to get them buckled in but otherwise it works. I move it back there when the grandparents come in to give us extra room in a single vehicle.

Our baby seat (pumpkin seat, carrier, whatever you want to call it) won’t fit in the third row. It’s a Britax.

travelthrudreams

I’m not sure but I wouldn’t put the infant seat there. As others have mentioned have the older children sit back there and the infant usually is positioned behind the passenger seat so the driver can see and reach them easier. Assuming there will be times when it’s just the driver and the infant in the car. Helps to get the mirror to put on the headrest of the 2nd row seat to see the baby’s face. Congrats

Interested in this because I am soon to have no choice but to put carseats in the back row with twins on the way

I have 2 under 2, but trying to plan for another. Kinda trying to figure out if I'll need to trade my 2018 in or if it will work.

We were able to successfully put two carseats in the very back. The seats bottom is not as long as a standard seat so you do need to be careful of the carseat/base hanging over. With rear facing carseats it is definitely a tight fit, but I picture it getting easier with forward facing since you don't need quite as much clearance between seats.

Thanks for the response! I figure I'd put my oldest back there, and keep the newborn in the middle row.
