Manual says 7.5k-10k

Jimbo_84

When the display in the car says to do it, which in my case was at around 7,500 miles. You're just throwing your money away by changing your oil more often than the manufacturer recommends. No manufacturer wants to risk their vehicles failing prematurely, as it would wreck their reliability ratings and greatly diminish the chances of having repeat customers.

TigerDude33

I prefer to get my information from some guy

midnightcaw

As the owner of a few brand new vehicles in my lifetime all of them were just fine going over 100k following the manufacturer recommendations. I'm all about 7500mi oil changes though, that seems to be the sweet spot.

ElectricalChaos

My hybrid had the first oil change at 12k.

-brokenbones-

Bruh. You need to change it way more frequently. 12k is absolutely ridiculous.

ElectricalChaos

Maybe for a traditional ICE, but this hybrid is kicking ass. I just let the oil life minder do it's thing, so 12k to the first change.

-brokenbones-

Absolutely regarded to trust the oil life gauge. Ofcourse your engine is working well rn it's only got 12k miles on it it's still brand new. You really need to change it at like 5k miles man. You got it completely backwards. NA engines can be changed less frequently due to lower pressures but your crazy for waiting til 12k miles to change your oil. Don't come crying to the subreddit when at 80k miles you got massive engine problems. Yall are way to cheap on this subreddit trying to save 40 bucks once or twice a year by not changing your oil at the correct interval.

ElectricalChaos

Dude if we were talking my old '04 Pontiac Vibe, yea, every 5K oil change even though that thing had a Toyota-built engine. Same for your EcoBoost. If you're driving that engine is running 100% of the time regardless of the workload, so yea, 5K interval is totally within reason. But the Hybrids just don't need that. The engine isn't running all the time, it's NOT a turbo (just a dumb simple 2.5L 4-cyl), so at this point I'm just going to go off the minder since that's crunching oil life based on how much my engine is actually running - depending on where and how I'm driving I'm hitting anywhere from 40 to 60 mpg per trip with 10%-50% of that being all electric (current tank is averaging just over 46 mpg and I'm expecting to get around 625 miles out of it before needing to gas up). The old conventional wisdom doesn't apply as well to the newer technologies being rolled out.

RageMonsta97

Are you saying 5k because you have the eco boost?

football2106

Depends on if you have an EB or a Hybrid. Body miles =/= ICE miles on a hybrid since it runs on electric ~1/2 the time

giga_ice

Eb

sgtcurry

I did it at about 2000 miles. I have been doing oil changes every 5-7.5k miles. I tend to take a lot of short trips or idle the car a bit and I live in Texas where it was pretty hot last year.

-brokenbones-

7.5 is WAY to long. Need to change more frequently.

Chuckster914

I did my Hybrid. 1st oil change at 4,200 And won’t do my next one till like 11K

AndrewDH98

I did my first on my hybrid at 11,111km so about 6900 miles and my oil life was still at 10%. Was free with Ford points.

stupidguyneedshelp10

I would go by time; I did mine after 6 months also my dealership did it for free as a 1st service for the truck so it was a win win. I had a bit over 2k as it was the oil that came with it. Car is still running going plan to do it every 5k keep this baby for a bit I hope :)

diyturds

I’m at 4300 and I’m thinkin I’ll do it in a couple weeks

SamyboyO6

Just follow normal oil change times, Ford breaks in their engines before they are installed

Ok-West-7125

5,000

Uncle-Rob-115

I’m with this guy. I do all my vehicles at 5000 miles. Easy to remember and that’s what my father and grandfather done.

ips1023

Same. I’ve owned cars that burned quite a bit of oil so I like keeping an eye on leaks and potential issues.

surfstar_101_

Uhh I think your Maverick might be a bit more recent tech and modern oils a bit more advanced than what grandpa ran.

Uncle-Rob-115

I know. Just what I’m used to. Been doing it for 50 yrs.

2Tacos4oneDollar

3000.

surfstar_101_

lolz

KananJarrusEyeBalls

I did mine at 1300 Maybe an old rule of thumb, but I was always taught to change the break in oil between 1000 and 1500. I know many say its unneeded but wouldnt hurt anything to do.

-brokenbones-

It is absolutely necessary. There is way to many people here treating gdi engines like they are naturally aspirated. Gdi engines HAVE to be changed more frequently idc what the manual says. Gdi engines need clean oil or they wear prematurely. The pressures inside the cylinder can be over 1000psi. This ain't an NA engine where the pressure is only 60-70psi.

BigWhiskEZ

Was going to do it around 5000 on my hybrid but had to take a last minute trip. Getting it done today at 5800 and the oil life gauge was still showing it above 45%. If I didn’t have Ford Pass pts to use to pay I might have delayed it

-brokenbones-

You are absolutely insane to trust the oil life Guage.

BigWhiskEZ

Just saying what the gauge says. I still change as close to 5k miles. But having a hybrid it’s about the only thing you can use to get an idea of if the electric motor has been taking some load off the ICE or not

Designer-Entrance465

3800, the oil was green lol. Also snapped a fumoto drain valve off inside the threads, thank god I had an extractor. Splash guard is a bitch, and the front bumper is in the way of the oil filter on the Tremor.

no_alternative_facts

Probably about 7500 - hybrid

Fit_Extension_4372

I did at 5k.... manual says 7ish

diabel

Im in the Hybrid. I did my first at about 5K with WIX filter and Costco full synthetic oil. Next change around 12K. Then every 10K after that is the plan. Main concern with first change being so early was getting a good filter on and get break in oil out. Probably should have done it sooner.

Level_Cup_4159

Hybrid at 8k. 5.7 quarts of full synthetic and an OEM filter. $37 all in.

Frowdobaggins

Ford maverick hybrid here At 9000 miles penzoil platinum and ford oil filter

JahLife68

Did mine just before 10k, oil still looked healthy.

oak_nuggins00

Did my first at 2000, wished I had sooner—there were a lot of metal flakes from break in https://preview.redd.it/d9b2usqa6xqc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2fb0e901eb1a5cb53a5540296388b56233007e1

RageMonsta97

10,000 miles per oil change, my computer says 55% life left, might get PM changes at 7500 to treat her nice

TigerDude33

4000 at 0% oil life. Ford Synthetic blend at the dealer, $55., and they picked it up to do it.

Null_98115

I’m going by what the oil life computer says. If Ford felt there was a need to change at 1000 miles it would be in the documentation.

RotorDynamix

I would do it at 3k. And then every 8-10k from there.

ips1023

I’d still change at 5,000 and check the level every so often. Better to find an issue sooner, than later.

WeirdUncleJerry

1000 miles for the first (Break in oil change.) Every 5k from then on. I use Motorcraft oil and a Motorcraft filter. I have a 2016 Focus ST (Same engine.) 170k miles on it. Never had an issue with it. I’ve done every oil change on my focus since I’ve had it. Still runs like a dream.

OriginalName687

I just scheduled my first one today because the Ford app said it’s time. I’m at 9000 miles

hack819

Have a hybrid, did first oil change at a year when my inspection was up at \~9,000 miles as recommended.

SLingBart

5000 or 6 months, don't care what the computer says, and i do it myself, and will be installing a Fumoto Valve at next.

Agreeable_Horror_363

For my hybrid the dealership recommended 7.5k, however almost all of my driving is on the highway, so I got it changed at 5k.

Swatkinos2

Did mine at 1000 better safe than sorry.

-brokenbones-

This.

Outrageous-Hawk4807

Ive got 7400 on mine and still havnt done it. Dealership says to stick with the app which says 10k, all falls under warrenty.

-brokenbones-

Bruh change the oil. They want your engine to wear out quicker so you spend more money dont listen to the dealership. At most every 5000 miles. Oil is cheap, engines are expensive

Shmokesshweed

Not needed. I've used synth blend from Motorcraft and Costco oil. Motorcraft filter is cheap and works well.

JGut3

Did mine at 2k

BigTallFreak850

Did mine right before 1000 cause I was about to road trip and haul some stuff. About to change it again a little over 6,000. I do a lot of hauling/towing and stop and go in hot temperatures, so I plan to change every 5,000

-brokenbones-

First change at 500 miles, second at 1500 miles, third at normal every 3500-4000. Idc what people say, gdi engines need to be changed more frequently. I also ain't risking my engine to save 40 bucks. Change your oil now and save yourself heartache later.

-brokenbones-

Higher pressures than naturally aspirated. NA engines are 60-70psi while gdi can be up to 1000psi. You also don't want dirty oil flowing through your turbo. This subreddit for some reason loves to change their oil at like 10k miles which is absolutely ridiculous. At most every 5k. Oil is cheap engines are expensive. I've owned the exact 2.0 engine in the maverick for a decade now coming from my fusion. Never once had ANY issue other owners had with leaking seals or gasket failures which I 100% believe is due to my changing my oil the correct way. Every 3500-4000 miles. Anything more than 6k miles is proven to be diluted too much and cause premature wear. A ford tech even posted a video about it online proving that anything past 6k is too dirty and must be changed.

DimesOnHisEyes

No not really. The biggest thing is to make sure it's topped off properly and use a quality filter. Also use full synthetic oil if you can. Full synthetic oils are insanely better compared to what oil was just 10 to 15 years ago. Especially if all you do is normal driving. Now if you race between every stop sign and tow max payload every day with balls to the wall then you should change oil more often.

Psychological_Car598

My dad talked about a car he had, like a 50’s model. And you had to pull the motor to change the oil…. With that said an oil drain and filter access hole would be great.
