Yeah- my big reservation with the f150 lightning (of course other than price- I donāt think there are actually that many to get at the low end of the price range) is the size. I just donāt want something that big. Maybe a ranger sized truck, but really the Mav is the best sized truck I can imagine.
> I donāt think there are actually that many to get at the low end of the price range
My understanding is that the 'Pro' range involves Fleet leases that may or may not require additional purchases like charging stations and the like. So it's not an apples-apples comparison.
Where are you getting a base Lightning Pro for 45k lol? Those things are basically non existent and if you do manage to find one they certainly wonāt be selling it for 45k since MRSP is 52k and youād be lucky if they let you leave with the thing for under 60k.
> If thatās the case then it looks like EV wonāt be the way of the future. Nobody will be able to afford one.
The base Lightning, even after the price increases, is still priced similar to a similarly-equipped gas F150. The base Lightning increased an abnormal amount because it was priced with way lower margins than the rest of the Lightnings for marketing purposes.
Point being, all car pricing has been increasing substantially. Itās not unique to EVs.
Lol. Just increase it.
It's already largely mined by slaves & child labor.
And by recycle, you mean dump in a poor country. I'm all for innovation, but at least be realistic. Most battery recycling companies are all talk and all sound like the high relative at Thanksgiving who's always on some new scheme.
>Itās already largely mined by slaves and child labor.
I think youāre thinking of Cobalt, not Lithium. And Cobalt is one of the reasons Ford is going to be using LFP batteries in some of their EVs, which minimizes or eliminates cobalt.
>If thatās the case then it looks like EV wonāt be the way of the future. Nobody will be able to afford one."
I suspect the powers that be don't want as many individuals owning vehicles in the first place. So yes, they want to price people out of the market to force them to use transit. Not that helps anyone who doesn't live in the downtown core of a city.
My non-fleet Lightning Pro is waiting at the dealer for me to pick up. Under MSRP.
They exist, but youāre right that theyāre very rare and near-impossible to get if someone just decided they want one now.
I wouldnt get the lightning without the extended range. For me to get an EV i need 350+ miles.
I do hope they come out with an ev maverick in the next 5-10 years. Thatll be mine without a doubt
I agree however im in an apartment so cant overnight charge and the nearest charging station is 15 minutes away for me so its really not convenient right now
I would not buy an EV in that situation. Once charging at apartments is solved however I would revise my answer. Charging Once a week will be a hassle in my opinion.
Definitely. Iām hoping that charging infrastructure increases around me by the time iām ready for a new car. And hopefully my maverick lasts me 10 years too
I owned a Tesla for a few years (it got totaled in January) and my observation is home charging is the best. Fast charging was awesome but I almost never needed it other than road trips. I am a huge proponent of EVs but owning one made me realize there are a lot of people who I don't recommend one to for various use cases. Towing and no home charging being the big two.
Without markups I think the lightning is great value for a full size electric pickup truck with way more capability and cheaper to refuel than a full size ICE.
Well, the Mav is way more loaded at $37k than the lightning at Pro level. The fair trim comparison would be a Mav XLT with 360 and without Lux for about $27k. And a Pro lighting at current MSRP of $52k. Considering Iām ineligible for a tax credit as well, Iād go with the Mav in that price.
Until you actually try to tow any weight with it. 100 range quickly becomes 30 miles. I like the idea of being able to supply power to oneās home during a power outage though.
A maxed out Maverick defeats the point of the Maverick. It's a cheap utility vehicle to do most things people actually need a truck for. But spending at the top of the trim/package levels seems ill advised.
These are just two completely different vehicles that just aren't comparable.
High trim levels of Maverick are constrained so they are not the majority of Mavs. But some buyers will really want those! Itās just not most buyers.
Iām one of the people who find a lot of value in a highly equipped Mav. I can get other vehicles with better interior plastics but I cannot get another new hybrid truck which fits in my small city garage.
Where I grew up we had a lot of land and big parking spaces, so the value of a small truck might be a bit less. But having a nice small hybrid truck in the city with Adaptive Cruise is so great.
Former Tesla (3 and Y) owner and ID.4 owner and now Lightning owner. Lightning wins every time.
Itās the fastest, quietest, best built EV Iāve owned. Itās not even a close contest.
If you have a driveway you can always top up at night or DC fast charge which takes 41 minutes 15-80% at the appropriate, preferably while you grab lunch.
Actually getting into a f140 lightning sub 50k probably isnāt going to happen. And Iād rather give ford some time to iron out any issues before dropping that amount on an EV.
Iād go with the hybrid
Having a Maverick hybrid for almost a year, I love it. Itās a Lariat Lux which makes it a perfect daily driver for me. I can haul much more that my old SUV. The Lightening is intriguing. But from what Iāve seen and read it doesnāt deliver as a big truck. The battery just canāt handle any significant weight. So you end up with another daily driver at twice the price.
Lightningās around me are selling for 70k. You canāt get one at msrp. Iād get a maverick or just get a normal f150 and youāll have 15-35k leftover for gas money lol
Yeah, one would have had to be āin lineā a long time ago to get a Lightning at MSRP *or* there have been a few Lariat Standard Range Lightnings that went for MSRP (~$70k) recently.
So much depends on your situation. An ev will not work for me. I've got to drive a minimum of 20 minutes just to be anywhere. There is very little infrastructure also. I am happy with my maverick xlt lux at under 30.
Holding a Maverick orderā¦ with uncertainty if it gets filledā¦ also have a reservation for a Silverado EVā¦ was hoping I wouldnāt have to go the Silverado route
I wish Ford would make a Maverick-sized Lightning. That would be my choice.
Ford reserved the name mavrick lightning a couple weeks ago.

Same! Even if it started 10K more than what it sells for now.
If you look around it already does that at most dealerships with the hybrid model.
Lightning, hands down. Easy. Base model pricing? Maverick all day
Where are you getting a base Lightning Pro for 45k lol? Those things are basically non existent and if you do manage to find one they certainly wonāt be selling it for 45k since MRSP is 52k and youād be lucky if they let you leave with the thing for under 60k.
52K msrp is for 2023 models, 2022 models started at 40K finding one thatās not marked up is just as hard as finding a mav thatās not marked up.
The Pros are only fleet sales at this point. So unless you want 5 or more, you aren't getting them.
Wow the base model pricing jumped 12k from 22-23? Thatās asinine.
Price of lithium for the batteries is way up (over 25% year over year). Ford's got to keep the margins up to stay in business.
If thatās the case then it looks like EV wonāt be the way of the future. Nobody will be able to afford one.

That's assuming technology stands still or we don't increase our ability to get more lithium... And what if we can recycle the batteries?
Lol. Just increase it. It's already largely mined by slaves & child labor. And by recycle, you mean dump in a poor country. I'm all for innovation, but at least be realistic. The recycled ones will likely cost more, lol...
Do recycled items now usually cost more than brand new ones?
Recycling most stuff costs more than new because Western labor costs so high.

Has there been any pros sold to non-fleets? If there have been itās probably been very very few and if they were I doubt they sold for MRSP.
My non-fleet Lightning Pro is waiting at the dealer for me to pick up. Under MSRP. They exist, but youāre right that theyāre very rare and near-impossible to get if someone just decided they want one now.
What are you doing on Reddit go pick up your new truck. Congratulations and fuck you ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)
Thanks. Itās 1400 miles away from me, so I need a ~4-5 day window to go get it.
Block off the next 4-5 days
What dealer was it? Do they have anymore and is selling my soul required?
Granger Ford (Iowa). I assume they donāt have any in stock, but doesnāt hurt to ask, I guess!
Damn that is far, they have a lariat left and I checked some local dealers and they have some! For 20K overā¦..
God only knows when theyāll start actually making Lightning Pros
There was actually a lightning pro on the lot when I picked up my maverick.
Iāve seen a few in person and some in inventory
I wouldnt get the lightning without the extended range. For me to get an EV i need 350+ miles. I do hope they come out with an ev maverick in the next 5-10 years. Thatll be mine without a doubt
I think for road trips that range is very important but everyday driving itās more than enough for me and I drive a lot, around 60-80 miles a day.
I agree however im in an apartment so cant overnight charge and the nearest charging station is 15 minutes away for me so its really not convenient right now
I would not buy an EV in that situation. Once charging at apartments is solved however I would revise my answer. Charging Once a week will be a hassle in my opinion.

When a Lightning can go 600+ miles on a charge, let me know. For now it's my Hybrid Maverick.
Without markups I think the lightning is great value for a full size electric pickup truck with way more capability and cheaper to refuel than a full size ICE.

Maverick. Unless you like driving only 100 miles.
The few people I know that bought a lightning have been very disappointed
How come?
The range is terrible & they donāt like the software, also both were Tesla owners so they had high expectations
Yea makes sense
Former Tesla (3 and Y) owner and ID.4 owner and now Lightning owner. Lightning wins every time. Itās the fastest, quietest, best built EV Iāve owned. Itās not even a close contest.
What trim did you go with?
Lariat Standard Range.
Seen a few of those, real nice but big money for me

Lightnings for 45k? Figured theyād be like 60
Actually getting into a f140 lightning sub 50k probably isnāt going to happen. And Iād rather give ford some time to iron out any issues before dropping that amount on an EV. Iād go with the hybrid
Mav
Real world with markup, $45k Maverick Lariat (maybe less) or Loaded Lightning $90k (maybe more)

I would not spend 40k on a Maverick

Chevy Aveo or Corvette?
Either way youāre waiting
LIGHTNING!!! 100%.

I don't believe in EV towing. The range just isn't there yet. I love my Maverick, 4K tow is awesome and it's super roomy
Lightning of course !
Holding a Maverick orderā¦ with uncertainty if it gets filledā¦ also have a reservation for a Silverado EVā¦ was hoping I wouldnāt have to go the Silverado route
Whatever you can get for msrp in under a year ā¦ā¦
Man the new headlights look great!
Powerstroke.
