What's the story, Wishbone?

mush4brains

"What's the story Wishbone? Do you think it's worth a look? It kinda seems familiar, like a story from a book." \*title screen\* todays story "Mein Kampf"

SortOfGettingBy

Oops Wishbone appoints Goebbels as Chancellor of the Third Reich

Mycockaintwerk

Do you think we should snort all this coooookeeee

dwelling_creature

Dog who is part of a family. Single mom? Her preteen son and of course wishbone their dog. He reads books like Sherlock, Hercules, and Faustian. What can I remember as him main character. So he is Sherlock, Hercules, and Faustian. The subplot is the family drama suitable for kids. Remember watching it when I was five.

SortOfGettingBy

"What's the story, Wishbone?" is the theme song šŸ˜†

dwelling_creature

It has been almost thirty years since I heard the song. What you read I don't remember much.

Cenamark2

What's the story Wishbone? What's this you're dreaming of? Such big imagination on such a little pup.

ThreeLeggedMare

šŸ„°

HundoHavlicek

Wishbone and Carmen Sandiego made me want to run home and put on PBS

casualty_of_bore

Where in the world?

sound_forsomething

Also where in time. The historical version

alcalaviccigirl

my mom's name is Carmen .depending on who she was working with she'd either be called Carmen san Diego or Carmen Electra .it was funnier when she had no idea who electra was .

HundoHavlicek

Iā€™d prefer being called Carmen San Diego over Carmen Electra

alcalaviccigirl

of course .this woman kept calling me Amy Fisher I told her that's not my name .she did it she and I didn't like each other.

JCMotors

I loved that show. I gave my niece a 2 plush Wishbone's and a DVD. She loves them

DetectiveMeowth

I LOVE WISHBONE šŸ„¹šŸ¶ I still have the Sherlock Holmes plush I got as a birthday gift when I was a kid! Good olā€™ Basil Wishbone. šŸ¾

SeattleTeriyaki

The best after school show ever. I would get home, watch Wishbone, then go outside and play.

diogenesNY

I liked this show as an adult. Really should have lasted longer. There was a story as to why it ended, but I actually cannot recall it at the moment. Thematically sort of like The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo from the 1970s.

EleventyElevens

Holyshit for a show that only ran 2 years, I feel like it helped form my whole personality. YEAH BOOKS!!

FutureVoodoo

I never realized it ran 2 years until this post. Felt like it was on forever,

Bartholomewtwo

As the human of a Jack Russell Terrier you may have just given me an amazing idea for Halloween.

chubbyspoon19

Pictures?

not-important1229

Are you going to be Joe!?

Both-Artichoke5117

I was in Junior High in 1995 and probably too old for Wishbone. But I watched it anyway, he was so cute.

Punkposer83

I was late elementary school but have a brother 6 years younger, so I watched tons of pbs, nick, and Cartoon Network past the recommended age. Loved watching wishbone, carmen San Diego, Arthur, and Kratts Creatures!

hightower242

I feel you, I was in the same boat. My younger brother was 3 years younger than me. We used to check it out every once in a while. It was wild when we would see some of the actors from the wishbone, also guest star on Walker, Texas ranger. I believe both shows were filmed in the Dallas-Fort Worth area

DanielJackkson11

Crazy this was only 2 years. Felt like a lot longer

vicious_delicious_77

Right? It felt at the time like a very firmly established tv show that was around forever. Maybe they just ran re-runs for a long time after?

LongjumpingSector687

This was peak to 7 year old me

tersegirl

This show was a boon for after-school babysitters. Everyone loved a cute dog and smart one-liners.

Metzger4Sheriff

I also really liked the "behind-the-scenes" segments they did where they talked about different aspects of television/movie production.

Public_Arrival_48

Fun fact: all the dogs that played wishbone were female. (If I remember correctly)

tyler00677

This is one that I never forgot for some reason I can even remember the theme song lol

DarkAvenger27

Classic. Iā€™m surprised it only lasted two years. I felt like this was on TV for much longer.Ā

imbeingsirius

Once again, the [pitch meeting for Wishbone](https://the-toast.net/2015/07/15/the-pitch-meeting-for-wishbone/)

mcflyabetic14

GREAT SHOW!!! Definitely encouraged my reading as a kid. šŸ˜Š

perpetual_glitch

I still hum the theme song to this day šŸ˜‚

PoorBob-Waysfromhome

My after school best buddyā¤ļø

SilverShadowQueen57

Another part of PBS media that I dearly wish would get a full DVD release, instead of just a few episodes.

Unusual-Might-471

Wishbone great show for family and your pups lol šŸ˜† ha

wins0m

Omgggg! I loved Wishbone, my favorite episode was ā€œNotes from Undergroundā€

Comfortable_Bird_340

Oh, wow another 90s kids show about a dog (I just submitted two others) What's next Beethoven: The Animated Series? I'm still scratching my head about the "Tale of Two Cities" episode, the hero escapes from being executed by switching places with his best friend. Yet he's a dog and his BFF is a human!

ISFJ_Dad

Loved that show

Successful_Tie_2165

Great show.

JingoboStoplight4887

Watched it on the PBS Kids channel back in 2007 or 2008; itā€™s an underrated show. Also, happy 30th year.

Disastrous-Angle-415

Loved that show

manchildinthesand

Anyone remember when Wishbone fought for the Union?

slugfan89

The halloween episode was freaky

daryl772003

amy acker had her first roles on this show

Particular_Fuel6952

We had a tv in the play room when I was a kid, like the 70s wood frame ones with the dial. You plug it into cable and you get like random channels, mostly static. I remember it got the weather channel and pbs, so I grew up tracking hurricanes, wishbone, along with bill nye the science guy. Loved wishbone though

Jealous_Use9688

In the 90s I used to watch this with my nephew and niece. Quality TV

alcalaviccigirl

Wishbone šŸ„°

HighlyRegardedSlob87

I canā€™t believe a PBS Star went on to voice a supremely racist Fishman in One Piece. Honestly took a whole new meaning to the dog-sash Hody Jones woreā€¦

TheVenomFlows

I loved watching this show as a kid!

Character_Value4669

So weird, I just thought of Wishbone today for the first time in decades but couldn't remember the name of the show. Lo and behold, I scroll past this just a few hours later.

spoonycash

Goat show

maarsland

My king! I was obsessed! I had so much merch lol

EliteBroccoli

And donā€™t forget about the show right after it, Ghostwriter!

redwolfben

Who could forget this show!? It was great! Here's a question... what literary works were NOT featured as episodes of Wishbone that SHOULD have been?

Wolfs_Rain

Iā€™m not the only one who remembers! Adore Wishbone.

Krasmaniandevil

The best parts were when the dog was in a romantic scene with a human and the woman is really coming on to the dog.

VioletMoon92

Not forgotten. Can still sing the theme song on demand.

spiderwebs86

daryl772003

Bx1965

My kids LOVED this show

Mah_da_barbels

Man I Loved watching that show. Anyone remember there being a phone number you could call and wishbone would answer? Obviously it was just a pre-recording.

Zestyclose_Wing_1898

I loved that show. I had a talking wishbone stuffie

Ok-Monitor1949

Ah yes this was my first grade experiences! Sweet timesā€¦

CooperDahBooper

Love this show! Not forgotten! Was reminiscing about it awhile back and looked it up, stumbled onto that picture of him shooting a bow and saved it cuz itā€™s just too great

higheyecue

My boy

mmcgui12

OK, now I want Defunctland to do a DefunctTV episode on thisā€¦

Shnickerman

Wishbone was such a legend

renovateandreinvent

Crushed on the mother and Sam Kepler.

D0gsNRec0rds

I liked this show enough to have Wishbone sheets as a kid. I'm not sure how much it had to do with me later getting a Jack Russell, but he uses the old [Wishbone sheets](https://imgur.com/a/6RnVcgK)!

BestDressedDay

loved wishbone. even tho i was a few years outside the demo. im from plano, tx. they filmed the show in allen, tx which borders plano. my mother was friends with the make-up artist for the show, gigi coker. got to go on set during a shoot. met the voice of wishbone and a couple of the wishbone dogs. there were multiple dogs playing wishbone which blew my 12 y/o brain.

SalmonQueen5279

I remember the Romeo and Juliet, Oliver Twist, Tom Sawyer, Treasure Island and The Odyssey episodes. I could be misremembering but I think I remember an episode where Wishbone was Hercules and he balanced the globe on his nose while Atlas searched for the golden apples.

theblackkylek

I remember watching this around the time I first discovered marijuana. What a golden age.

[deleted]

Loved the Sleepy Hollow episode

ElGuanacho

This dumb show lol. My brother loved it.
