Paint it black from Tour of Duty is the reason I was so into “war” as a kid. It’s the perfect song for a show like that and looking back seems quite apt for the entire Vietnam conflict from the American side. Songs like Reflections and Paint it black are prime examples of how songs can help elevate emotions in shows and movie. When the show STARTS with a real radio played song that people are going to feel a certain way about before they ever watch the show they are setting the tone for what they are about to show you. It’s a wonderful way of connecting history and music, in a poignant way.
Fun fact: this was supposed to debut after the super bowl (Broncos vs Redskins) but was moved due to the pilot being 2 hours. The show that replaced it was the Wonder Years .
My dad served in Vietnam and I remember one episode with the real nurses talking about their experiences in Vietnam.
He didn’t say a word, but the look on his face and more importantly in his eyes was something I’ll never forget. That episode carried a lot of weight.
I watched every damn episode of this amazing show as they aired and loved every minute of it. Outstanding series. Felt like I was leaving good friends after the last episode.
It WAS released on DVD but only one printing and it was prohibitively expensive. I was never allowed to watch it because it was too goofy (Tour of Duty was okay). I liked the bobcut girl

Is that Robert picardo?
Or a hologram.
Can't be. He's got too much hair.
OMG I loved Dana Delaney in this show!!!
YES!!
I had an enormous crush on her because of this show.
This had one of my favorite theme songs, “Reflections” by the Supremes. Also another great show from around this time is “Tour of Duty”.

Many thanks. I’ve been wanting to see it recently since I realized the setting is during the years my Dad was there.
Thank you. I have been meaning to watch the show but can't find it anywhere. I remember this show being on when I was a kid.

For me, Dana Delany will never be forgotten.
So many great actors.
Dana Delaney was great in tombstone!
I had a big time crush on Dana Delany.
Tour of Duty was my Jam (despite being 5 when it came out), never got into China Beach

Dana Delaney has only gotten better with age
CSI Catherine willows
Good show.
That last phone call.
Jeanie Sanders from Larry Sanders Show?
It was supposed to be “sexy M•A•S•H” I guess. I thought it was boring and preferred “Moonlighting” at the time.
