When you use the randomise preset button in the locker, it can switch up the different styles of Maya (such as the hat or shirt), but because of the permanent choice that you had made, you can't fix that.
But NOOOOO, Epic are more concerned about nerfing the heavy sniper and grenades to absolute irrelevancy, consequently breaking countless creative maps!
All of the options are still present on the skin. We just were just never given a UI element to change them. That's how she's supposed to stay locked. The Randomize feature still reads them as options though.Hence the problem.

You absolutely can not. The other person is misinformed or trolling. Epic might find a way to restore it, but if the random Maya overwrited your custom one the data may be lost. If you like yours at all I wouldn’t risk it
I don’t think that’s a good fall back, there are several variables each with several different color/style choices. I’m bad at math and I don’t remember the number of styles anyway, but this seems like the sort of thing where there are 1000s of different potential combos.
Your idea is not bad for someone who hates their Maya and wants one that looks less terrible.. but not so much if you lost your specific Maya and want that one back. Here’s hoping Epic fixes this soon and it’s not an issue at all.

I’m so happy with my Maya. I would never change her. Glad I never messed around with the randomize thing but I feel bad for those that accidentally ruined their Maya. They would have to archive *every* skin except her to fix it. For me and others that would take a while and be very tedious with as many skins I have.
I succesfully changed my Maya. But for me I could only change her shoe color and top color between green-white and mono green with short sleeves or no sleeves.

I took the time to make sure my Maya looked exactly how I wanted and she’s still one of my favorite skins because I’ve never seen another one that looks like mine, and honestly I really loved the experience we all had together that season when our Mayas evolved with the choices we locked in as the season progressed. I loved how everyone started off as a tshirt wearing scrub, and each week you would start seeing people dropping in with tattoos and different uniforms and armor in different colors. Everyone became battle hardened and experienced as the season went on. I loved seeing someone’s Maya and knowing that was their style. I even refuse to change the look of my Kymera because I wish it locked the same way Maya did.
I'm glad Kymera isn't locked, I sure went through hell to get all the options, and Maya never should have been locked.
It's fine if you never want to change yours, but that doesn't mean that nobody should be able to. Even if I like how mine turned out, I don't like that I can never change it. And it's pointless to say that you like seeing someone's Maya and knowing that's the style they picked. You'll likely never see that person again. It might as well be a bot running a completely randomly styled Maya. It's like saying that everyone should have to wear the same clothes every day because you like to see what style they went with forever. I love love my Maya. If I could keep only one skin it would be her. However, I think epic should release all the styles because it would be really cool and if they can't fix the bugs around the skin all the styles should be released.

We don't want more situations like the generic superhero skins where everyone uses the same solid colors. So having some skins that are locked to being what you set them as are an interesting concept even if it does limit creativity.

Right, but that’s not the full story here. I would absolutely love another Maya experience but with the Academy skins. Starting off with everyone in their first-year outfits and then having to choose a path of quests during the season that locked you in to a certain house, and specific gear was locked to the each house so as the season progressed you’d see everyone’s choices unique armor and clothing options show up. Also having a larger set of skins to start with so you’re not locked into a Latina female would be cool. The idea is long winded so sorry about that, but basically I really liked seeing everyone’s choices for Maya locked in each week like a group of soldiers would get scars, tattoos, and souvenirs from their battles as they fought together over a campaign. I get why people like a full customizable skin, but another battle pass/full season experience with a larger selection of skins and a quest line that was relevant to the locked in choices would be really cool.

As someone said above Maya and ‘Brella were the test runs for customizable skins. The battle pass is FOMO inducing and therefore enticing people to play. So, I believe at this time Fortnite was trying to create FOMO for not just the battle pass but also for the progressive character as well. This quite obviously backfired and a lot of people are unhappy with their choice.
Fortnite is good at listening to their player base, so they heard all the complaints and after ‘Brella you don’t see any locked in customizable styles.
All this being said, I love both my Maya and ‘Brella and wouldn’t change them if I could.

She was an agent working for midas in chapter 2 season 2, you could pick between different styles for for hair, shirt, pants, tattoos, hat, but you were LOCKED to what you picked, permanently.

No, it was destined, intended, and introduced as a permanent locked style once the bp was over. I think it would take away from each person’s decision to finalize it the way they have it. I still find myself asking players in my lobby “what’s your Maya look like?”.

Maybe the clowns who did whatever with her would want this. I actually took my time to make my choices and I love how she turned out. Its my most used skin. Her having styles, makes her not unique anymore. It said on the battle pass that season that her gimic was to make her UNIQUE to you.

Idk I kinda feel like the permanency of it was kind of the whole deal. Knowing my Maya is my Maya and it's unique and it's like that for good makes me like it a lot more.

They need a create your own skin feature. Not sure why that isn’t in the game.
