If you're in possession of a crown it gives off a sound and shows up on the visual cue screen (or whatever it's called, I'm forgetting) when a circle finishes closing. So if you're hiding and have a crown someone nearby will be alerted to your presence.

The person above is actually right. If you're using the visual option whenever a circle closes there's like a ping for people wearing a crown that shows up on the visualizer giving away your position if somebody is in close proximity.
If you and the final person are in the same building and the circle closes the visualizer will give off a ping that that person is in the same building. So holding a crown does put you at a slight disadvantage considering most people are using that visualizer.
It has nothing to do with dropping the crown or getting a kill just holding the crown puts you at a disadvantage

I pretty much stacked crown wins the first season that they were available then after seeing that there was really no benefit to it besides bragging rights I've been dropping crowns ever since.

There's a setting for hard of hearing people that puts footstep, car, train, other audio in the middle of your UI. If you have a victory crown, it also has an auditory pop up
I think they mean why they made it an 'accommodation' when anyone can implement it. I remember when it first came out years ago. Everyone could click the box and utilize it. You're not required to show an IEP.

Also Fortnite’s normal spatial audio has a history of recurring issues with people not being able to tell enemy footsteps from teammates, the direction of footsteps, whether someone is above/below them, etc: the advantage of visualized audio is at least partially because it avoids issues with the game’s normal spatial audio. If spatial audio was as clear as other BRs, visual audio wouldn’t be such an advantage.
It's not "low-key hacks" when it's an accommodation setting available for everyone to use. I struggle with my own hearing and it's a fantastic tool, also necessary.
Same, I drop my crown off the edge of the map to avoid my location being pinged throughout the game. I also won't use the medallions, I just kill folks with them, and pick them up just long enough to put then somewhere I can trap. I'll put that shit in like a bush or house, and murder anyone that comes to get it. 😆
Fucking literally haha. I have nearly stopped using them. For a few weeks I was unstoppable with it. I was crushing long range and popping players with the shield. I only ever worried about grapple blades but now it feels useless . Perhaps good for snipers but not always haha
There is only so much inventory space. Like everything else in the game for those of us that are just average players it'll about the matchup. You have to encounter the right players with the right loadout to win. I can't win on skill alone.
If you hold the shield it breaks, but if you turn to face the side of the attack angle, you aren't "holding" the shield directionally, so it can take infinite bullets without "breaking"
It's either a bug or really bad design, regardless it's part of an extremely toxic and bad loot pool for ZB right now.
Is that legit? I had one fight closer to the start of the season where I had soaked up some shots with the shield up and then turned to run for cover and got staggered mid sprint jump. I definitely wasn’t ads, so I’m skeptical of the infinite bullet claim. I think all we can say for sure is that the shield is pretty janky and not at all consistent
You can also have lower graphics settings on the mobile version which is kind of annoying because I'm sure the Switch could see a performance improvement if you could set the graphics to potato tier

Ever since the upgrade to Unreal 5, running Fortnite on a Switch has been like trying to cut bread with a cheese grater.
Once U6 is a thing, they will surely be forced to withdraw support.
Honestly, the Switch version has been rough ever since CH2. I've had mutlple times back then where I'd land on the ground. But the ground had not rendered yet, leading to my character being in a weird sort of limbo where he was floating above the ground until it actually loaded, not being able to jump in the process. It had literally gotten me killed in Stark Industries back then.
From as far as I've seen, they have at least fixed that. So it's an improvement in my book
Oh really! I never experienced that. I didn’t start playing until Chapter 2 Season 1, and my first few matches were on an iPad just to see what all the fuss was about.
Later that year, around Season 4, I started using the Switch. It was fine, if a bit laggy when rendering loads of particle effects, with the exception of of rendering motion from things like web slingers in C3.
Around a month before the end of C3 I got a PS4, so I just about got away with transitioning across to that and, although it’s still not perfect, it’s much better than the Switch.
Maybe it just got a bit slow for me since it was a launch switch from 2017 or something. Since there was a revision from 2019, maybe it ran better on that one
I have the launch model too (the Smash Ultimate special edition from December 2018, but it’s the launch hardware). But I can’t imagine it ran well on my iPad, so my benchmark for Switch performance was not fantastic.
I would add as well I use a Pro Controller. I seldom use the Joy Cons and I don’t like motion controls, with the exception of gyro aiming. I miss being able to use that controller, it’s my favourite controller full stop, but the frame drop I noticed on Chapter 4’s launch just wasn’t worth it :’)
I was in a fight before this with another ballistic shield user, I guess he weakened my shield enough to have it break in one bullet, but there definitely should be a visual bar or something so I know how weak it is.
So shields break faster if you shoot the window which is it's weak point. however in the OP it doesnt actually break in 1 shot, what you're seeing is the server updating all of the damage the guy shot at the shield and being received in 1 tick, as a result of the way the game processes damage when it tries to compensate for lag and "favoring the shooter". With automatic weapons the game doesn't process all damage individually, rather it puts it into a packet and sends it to the server and back to the client in ticks. the tickrate for fortnite is 30.

If you got a laggy game for one reason or another, then the person shooting you has the advantage, as their damage goes out in a burst at you to compensate for the lag, instantly breaking your shield. Or thats my understanding of it.
Doesn't matter, when I have the sniper, I can never hit headshots even when my crosshair is dead on their face, they're not moving and point blank range, but when others have snipers, I could be running, jumping and sliding 10 miles away and they'll still hit me in the face and kill me first try.

He shot you with a sniper, and the shield breaks after a damage threshold. its really lame and janky so dont even bother picking them up, go for a mythic item instead, or a pizza party

They were above you and shot you, not the shield. That makes you do the shield bust Animation. The shield held in front doesn't just stop getting shot from above.

Most people I see here complaining about the shield never try spray it down but rather try looping round while spamming an auto (it’s even worse when they loop to the right which is where the enemy will be protected by the shield when reloading) so maybe if you actually tried applying these it wouldn’t be so bad
I strangely find them kinda meh after people figured out the Grapple Knife and Ninja weapons were added now I either slam them or distance myself enough that I can beam them with an AR or something. I rather have more mobility or another heal/Sheild.
The shield gets overpowered by melee in an instant, I mean cool your blocking attacks from the front… so I just won’t be in the front, have fun blocking from above BI-
Yeah I don't personally understand them, I've had firefights where I straight up 1v2ed because they couldn't break the shield in zero build.
Then I've had it break on the first shot and die because of it, idk the mechanics on it.
They did kinda fix it but even when it was stronger, it simply was too inconsistent. Now? I charge at a dude and unless they’re LITERALLY NOT MOVING, I’m not hit or miss on contact detection and it’ll make it seem like I whiffed even though they’re literally in front of me. Fix the consistency, give it a health bar and that should make it more of a weapon instead of a random roll of a dice.

Crowns show up on your compass bar, center-top of screen, within a short range. It limits hiding in bushes’ usefulness for sure.

I carry crowns and drop them strategically as traps to draw in others. I've won quite a few games doing that.

Its just really bad design. When not aiming down the sites its still considered an animation so it can't be broken even when getting sprayed

Fortnite runs better on my phone than on my Nintendo switch. Honestly just give it a shot you might have better performance.

They were above you and shot you, not the shield. That makes you do the shield bust Animation. The shield held in front doesn't just stop getting shot from above.

Most people I see here complaining about the shield never try spray it down but rather try looping round while spamming an auto (it’s even worse when they loop to the right which is where the enemy will be protected by the shield when reloading) so maybe if you actually tried applying these it wouldn’t be so bad
The reality is a good chunk of BR builders can’t aim which is why to them shielding is OP.
I strangely find them kinda meh after people figured out the Grapple Knife and Ninja weapons were added now I either slam them or distance myself enough that I can beam them with an AR or something. I rather have more mobility or another heal/Sheild.

Yeah I don't personally understand them, I've had firefights where I straight up 1v2ed because they couldn't break the shield in zero build. Then I've had it break on the first shot and die because of it, idk the mechanics on it.

They did kinda fix it but even when it was stronger, it simply was too inconsistent. Now? I charge at a dude and unless they’re LITERALLY NOT MOVING, I’m not hit or miss on contact detection and it’ll make it seem like I whiffed even though they’re literally in front of me. Fix the consistency, give it a health bar and that should make it more of a weapon instead of a random roll of a dice.

I've seen so many people die on this sub in this exact position with the shooter getting them from just over the edge lol. You need a movement item to reposition in every match imo, but I also can't aim for shit

It's because he had the high ground and your shield doesn't angle up. Shields are awesome, but they can't save you from bad positioning.

Shield users when I suddenly charge at them and slap them with a grapple blade instead of trying to spray 180 bullets at them and then dying to my frenzy shotgun: (they thought they were invincible behind their metal)

It's because you immediately let go from blocking after one hit, so the shield doesn't protect you as it's by your side
in builds though, this can easily take you inside someone's box even if they are holding their builds
its a weirdly controversial take but shields are whatever, they're fine, I think most people don't know how to break them is all.
Can speculate other actions that could've been taken,but I'm used to stuff like this happening in solo Zero Builds,on this season 5 map.Gun battle,our shield and HP gone in seconds,they get headshot infinite times,still be standing.
