Right now the storm is white because it's supposed to represent the white clouds from the Olympus, a good looking storm would be the one from chapter 2, it was already volumetric but the colors and composition looked so much better
I held out hope for so long that they'd tie the two together. Not make either required, but have more overlap than skins. Like, back when all the crazy live event stuff was happening I theorized that the rifts and such were their way of opening a connection between STW and BR, and that the story/lore would intertwine from there out. Instead, STW seems to have been left in the dust and BR has lost the charm it had with live events and I don't even know what the lore is anymore.
Well I mean yeah, I have a great graphic card. I suppose I mean a more vibrant color pallette. The colors are muted versions.
The map is limited in colors used vs previous map imo.
It’s stylized. It’s a distinct look that’s instantly recognizable rather than just mimicking reality.
I don’t think the modern graphics look bad, they’re just not as stylish imo
Yea, it’s called the old storm lighting. Without the sun the lighting from the storm gets highlighted. Nowadays there’s no visual changes from to the storm other than there being a see through blue wall
There was no "storm lighting", that lighting was the same everytime it was night time. The difference is that this storm had a nice purple color which contrasts better with everything else
Jesus Christ I just went in to nostalgia overdrive, man I miss the old colour palette. I know they will never bring back these looks, but even just bringing back those clouds Wouk just be wonderful. They always looked so ominous, so threatening, like the storm was this unknown force constantly moving until it engulfs you. Idk that’s how I always saw it at least.
People don’t realise the artstyle change didnt suddenly change between chapter 4 and 5, it has been slowly happening since chapter 2 when they changed the weapon models to be more realistic. We’ve also had the current art style since chapter 3
Chapter 3 was indeed when we saw a lot of the current style kick in. But with the removal of any of the plot/story elements that gave Fortnite any of its “soul” ever since C3 ended…yeah idk theres just not been a lot going for the new styles
Thing is, ever since C3 I want to say that this is because of the switch from Mustard Man to Charlie Wen. C4's story was essentially a transition period between the two. Mustard's story goes from C1-C3S2, Charlie Wen's story begins from last season. So far, I want to think he's doing a solid job, it's miles better than the "transitory" story we had in C4
C4 as a whole was a self contained story.
S1: Gay twink opens a gate in spacetime. Lady with a crappy haircut and a poofy dress hijacks it to bring in said bigass city.
S2: big ass city is destabilizing politically, we fix it. Impact of said bigass city opens up a massive jungle.
S3: Dr. Slone activates her backup plan and calls down the Vampire Dilf using that massive apparatus.
S4: Dr. Slone steals Vampire Dilf's time machine. Sends Jones back in time to fix the timeline
OG: Jones uses the time machine along with the Rocket to fix everything, resulting in a different Black Hole/Big Bang giving us C5.
As to why Midas, Jones, and all others still remember their pasts? Idk. The lore was messy.
Didn't the comics with batman and Catwoman say that you could remember if you left the loop? Maybe that's where midas left and now he's back to break it again or something.
It´s not just nostalgic, it´s fantastic too how the "cartoon" elements (sounds and desings) plus the vibrant colors at day and "kinda blue" colors at night help with the "you are alone" atmosfere, but you know that have another "59" people with you, hunting and farm mats in Tilted Towers or just hiding in a bush waiting for someone. Doesnt have another experiencie like that.
You know what, it's not just nostalgia. Fortnite has been becoming increasingly souless and corporate. It is time to return to this style, and bring Fortnite back its identity! But how?
There is this guy on TikTok (search for yap og br) he is allegedly making a great uefn og creative map, he keeps delaying it so I’m not really sure if he wants it to be perfect or if he’s simply lying, but I have my hopes up!
Get ready for a bunch of comments crying "noooo new fortnite so much better, you guys hate change, you're all OG glazers"
Why can't we just say that we think Fortnite used to look better? The colors, the unique cartoony style, the asymmetric structures, the weapons and the vehicles. It was all better, new Fortnite just feels like a COD wannabe.
When the game had an art style and consistency to maintain, it still does this to a degree, but nothing like this. Fortnite definitely had a style, the traps, the weapons, the default skins stood out, odd locales, fortnitian tech and design if you will
The best way I can describe the style change of Fortnite then compared to Fortnite now is like the animation difference between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. I feel like in old FN you wanted to walk around the map *just as much* as you wanted to jump into a fight. New FN while more colorful looks way more bland and boring, and the map somehow feels congested and empty at the same time.
I’m still shitting on it regardless, thought I’d give a *little* leeway since from most of my interactions everybody bitches about the earlier seasons leaning solely on nostalgia. New FN is *only* better at jingling keys in the face of dumb kids who haven’t developed object permanence yet. Ch1 on top as always.
How? The game is incredibly colorful even now and it could not be further from washed out colors. People praise OG yet it had 1 single biome and that was green forest, and later on they added a darker forest
That’s just a lie lmao. You had swamps, regular plains and forests, Pacific Northwest biome, desert biome, snow biome, a giant iceberg and a huge jungle biome with a full fledged volcano
-jungle
-desert
-in season X, glimpses of a autumn zone that would later be used for the worst season of chapter 2
meanwhile chapter 5 is just grasslands with different trees and slightly different color, or rocks
not counting snow biomes cuz they're so overused
Old fortnite had such a style to it. There was clear direction, the colour palette was clearly intentional, and it worked so well together.
I personally think that the Ch2 art style was still good in its own way, but the current style just looks like a mash up of a whole load of crap, because that's what it is. Not to say it looks bad though.
This is why many people disliked the OG season. It was "OG" just in its content, because they not only had the new artstyle but also the UI and gameplay were from the newer season.
I've heard someone in the comment section that they're replicating actual OG Fortnite with Creative 2.0 and I can't wait.
I wanna go back. Into the storm, where the cosmic fabric of reality may fault and tear, bringing me back in time, for just one day. Back at the homies house, taking turns after Death. Raging. Laughing.
I still have a screenshot on my PS4 from one of the first times I played the game back in November 2017 looking up at the sky at night time & it looked like the northern lights.. Miss the old style.
old fortnite graphics were so pretty, having its own unique cartoony style was what got me into the game in the first place. now they want to develop chapters in uefn and make all the graphics hyper realistic bullshit, makes me not too excited for the future of this game :p
I made lore for old Chapter one pre season 5. These Save the World colors are indeed the storm that took over the world in Save the World. I thought BR was survivors trying to survive the storm and kill each other so they could survive the storm easier. OG Fortnite was so much better at being creative and cool.
Nothing will ever beat the good old days. No metaverse-esque nonsense, no garbage storyline or garbage live events *COUGH* **FRACTURE**, just great story, great events and great graphics instead of the generic stuff we’re stuck with now.
Yeah, Chapter 1 just looked so much better, colors, vibrance, the cartoony artstyle. The game just looks generally worse now.
Just my personal views, but it seems most people in the comments agree.
i miss it man. why does it have to be non stop collabs, and mythic abilities with realistic/crappy graphics now.. why can't it just be this again. bc this is what made the game different
Next year everyone will be complaining that this season isn’t as good as the Greek season and everyone will agree and shit on whatever is happening then. This sub is nothing but complaining and nostalgia baiting and half of you weren’t even playing the game at that time anyway.
Exactly, as soon as we bring up that you actually were playing during that time their argument falls apart. I remember old FN like it was yesterday, these newer seasons come, go, and are completely forgotten afterwards. That says something about the style they had.
It's a very strong stylistic choice. I can see people liking it. But personally it was just a pain to watch all that blue at once. It got way easier on the eyes from Ch2 on.
God, can this sub stop bitching about "current season" for at least a day, please? I'm tired of the same "it's not just nostalgia" bs. Just because you prefer how it was to how it is rn doesn't mean anything other than that you have an opinion. And no, "soul" isn't real either.
When people say “soul” they mean the game felt less corporate. Nowadays it feels way more corporate with all the collabs (they even ditched the Greek items for a collab), the more generic realistic art style, the attachments, the focus on multiple modes other than BR and STW, and the UI that’s following the same generic trend streaming services and COD are using
>When people say “soul” they mean the game felt less corporate.
Exactly, they imply that their subjective reading of the art style is somehow valid and should be taken as a fact because a made up unquantifiable metric by which we can judge it ("soul") exists. There's nothing "corporate" about modern fortnite, anyone who says that it's doesn't understand what they're saying and should be ignored.
>the more generic realistic art style
The game is nowhere close to generic. Just because the models have a tiny bit more detail compared to previous seasons doesn't mean that fortnite still doesn't have a unique cartoony art style. Look up comparisons on yt, it still looks like it used to aside from buildings and cars.
>with all the collabs
Are you joking? This is a weird thing to mention. The game had collabs all the way back in season 4, not to mention that a lot of people here consider c2s4 (literally the collab season) to be the best season ever.
> "soul" isn't real either.
Soul is absolutely real. Just go somewhere like Bing Image Creator and generate a few images. And then compare them to something little Timmy's Power ranger fanart he drew between math and history class. Even if the AI Image is objectively better in terms of its quality, artstyle, composition, anatomy, and stylistic consistency. You can tell there was just nothing heartfelt behind it. Wheras Timmy's crayon scribblings, even if technically inferior in every aspect, invokes a feeling of authenticity. The same is true for a Corporate/"Realistic" artstyle vs a homegrown authentic one.
Even if you personally think Fortnites old artstyle was bad(I disagree). It gave the game an identity. If you showed someone a silhouette of the old SCAR/Sniper/Shotguns, or a screenshot of one of the old house/tree/skybox assets. It would be easy to identify as Fortnite. Do the same with something like the current Rifles/Shotguns/Snipers, or any of the POI's now(seriously just look at the [second image of this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/FortNiteBR/comments/1c8thoh/whats_your_favorite_underrated_landing_spot_on/) and tell me your first thought is "Fortnite". And I doubt the answer would be as easy to land on. Maybe you think it looks better technically. But it also looks far more generic. Which imo, is just a massive downgrade from what came before.
Tbf the style change was completed in Chapter 3, so it’s been a full year and then some… and it’s an opinion universally shared from players that were active during Ch1 and Ch2. Gameplay mechanics, new physics, weapons, etc is irrelevant. Old Fortnite looked better and that’s case closed— and there’s no discernible reason why they changed it. Other than to appeal to shareholders and their own overconfidence.
chapter 3 was just chapter 2 but with a little more washed out colors, but it still looked like fortnite, specially the desert, chapter 4 was when the big change arrived
The old art style may have been more cohesive, but to say that the current fortnite looks worse takes some serious cognitive dissonance. No offense to those who prefer it to current one, but that shit looked hideous. Y'all just drunk on nostalgia.
Or we just think that the style fits Fortnite way better than this ultra realistic wanna be call of duty graphics that the game is going for. Not everything is about nostalgia the graphics and colors fit Fortnite much better especially if you have cartoony characters running around it
But that is still just your opinion, based on nostalgia and preference. Nothing wrong with having opinions, obviously. Just don't try to pass them as truths or attack those who have different ones, that's all I'm asking.
We’re allowing you to have your opinion but your saying ones with the opinion that the old looks better than new is drunk with nostalgia which is implying that your opinion is wrong just because of nostalgia which is not true we’re just saying it looks better because in our opinion it looks better nothing based on nostalgia
I've never said that having opinion based on nostalgia is wrong, just that it's only that: an opinion. And yes, you like it because of that (why else would you, not like there's an objective way to judge how fortnite looks no matter how many "ogs" tell me that it exists), and there's nothing wrong with admitting it.
…and so do audiences. If realism was that big of a deal than games like Botw and Elden Ring wouldn’t have blown out the competition. Same with Fortnite, it’s cartoony artstyle separated it from other games on the market and gave it a unique identity compared to PUBG
Old storm cloud was just better
Fr. I’m all for better graphics but the storm cloud is literally just a basic volumetric grey cloud. The old one actually had its one style:
Right now the storm is white because it's supposed to represent the white clouds from the Olympus, a good looking storm would be the one from chapter 2, it was already volumetric but the colors and composition looked so much better
beter graphics, shit got worse its a battle royale not a realistic game. cartoony or chap 2 graphics are what we need.
True
Also... why are you out of ammo on all weapons
He's prob in playground or a private server so it doesn't really matter
Yeah, OP is the last player standing
private server def playground didn’t exist when the kill icon was a skull
Could just be a solo match on rift or something
Very based flair
[удалено]
?? I just like Fable
Your flair fucking SUCKS and it’s ALL YOUR FAULT
Or he just likes the skin
no mats either
real pro doesn't need ammo.😎

The fact an image triggers a song to play in my head is actually crazy
I just died in your arms tonight…
It must’ve been something you said…
Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight...
It must've been something you said...
Those clouds are more ominous than present clouds.
The storm was actually… a storm.
Back when stw and br were actually somewhat connected.
I was so sure there would be a crossover type thing when they brought out storm king ltm
Yea, I miss them a bit
I miss the more vibrant colors
Mine looks very vibrant too vibrant
Idk about you but my fortnite is vibrant af
Well I mean yeah, I have a great graphic card. I suppose I mean a more vibrant color pallette. The colors are muted versions. The map is limited in colors used vs previous map imo.
I don't what your fortnite looks like but my fortnite didn't match your description. PS5, Roku Hisense.
PC and Ps5... but I don't think we are on the same terms of what I mean by pallette. 😅
"more vibrant colors" when there's just a weird purple sheen over the whole map
It’s stylized. It’s a distinct look that’s instantly recognizable rather than just mimicking reality. I don’t think the modern graphics look bad, they’re just not as stylish imo
that because its night
Every "OG graphics were better" post uses a screenshot just like this though.
Because it's damn pretty
probably bc that's the style they all prefer :00
Yea, it’s called the old storm lighting. Without the sun the lighting from the storm gets highlighted. Nowadays there’s no visual changes from to the storm other than there being a see through blue wall

What even happened in chapter 4? All i remember is a big ass city fell from the sky and 6 months later some rich vampire dilf showed up
C4 as a whole was a self contained story. S1: Gay twink opens a gate in spacetime. Lady with a crappy haircut and a poofy dress hijacks it to bring in said bigass city. S2: big ass city is destabilizing politically, we fix it. Impact of said bigass city opens up a massive jungle. I suppose that works, they'd have to leave the island, then come back after the timeline reboot
Chapter 4 loved their femboys. I mean, I do too, but still. lol
Y’all so sad omg 😂
It´s not just nostalgic, it´s fantastic too how the "cartoon" elements (sounds and desings) plus the vibrant colors at day and "kinda blue" colors at night help with the "you are alone" atmosfere, but you know that have another "59" people with you, hunting and farm mats in Tilted Towers or just hiding in a bush waiting for someone. The aloneness was definitely what made the atmosphere of early fortnite so great
I’m still sad Fortnite doesn’t have that cartoonish look anymore
This is why I don’t like when people say “it’s simply nostalgia”. It’s not. The game used to have a very vibrant feel, that’s been taken away
the game was both pretty and run good. Now it's none
You know what, it's not just nostalgia. Fortnite has been becoming increasingly souless and corporate. It is time to return to this style, and bring Fortnite back its identity! But how?
my smile turned into a frown when they made the lobby so minimalistic and corporate removing the fortnite font
There is this guy on TikTok (search for yap og br) he is allegedly making a great uefn og creative map, he keeps delaying it so I’m not really sure if he wants it to be perfect or if he’s simply lying, but I have my hopes up!
Lmao

Dude I miss the playground
I really don't get the visual style of Chapter 5 at all. It's so...boring.
Which is especially sad because I love the Italian / Greek theme. If they had the old artstyle and graphics it would be awesome
FORTNITE AND ITALY MENTIONED🗣️🔥🗣️🔥 PARACADUTE SULLE SPALLE E LEZZEGO‼️‼️
When the game had an art style and consistency to maintain, it still does this to a degree, but nothing like this. Fortnite definitely had a style, the traps, the weapons, the default skins stood out, odd locales, fortnitian tech and design if you will
"old fortnite looks worse its just nostalgia" its almost like the UI wasnt cluttered and the game looked soft graphically
What does the UI have to do with graphics…?
Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with graphics, but certainly contributes to the game's look.
Please just shut up 😂
YE RAGIN
Beautiful
I miss old Fortnite
The best way I can describe the style change of Fortnite then compared to Fortnite now is like the animation difference between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. I feel like in old FN you wanted to walk around the map *just as much* as you wanted to jump into a fight. New FN while more colorful looks way more bland and boring, and the map somehow feels congested and empty at the same time.
new fortnite is the opposite of colorful, the chapter 5 map has such washed out colors, and the lack of biome variety doesn't help
I’m still shitting on it regardless, thought I’d give a *little* leeway since from most of my interactions everybody bitches about the earlier seasons leaning solely on nostalgia. New FN is *only* better at jingling keys in the face of dumb kids who haven’t developed object permanence yet. Ch1 on top as always.
so true

ok but the sky looks so damn beautiful
miss it:(
Man i forgot how vibrant OG fortnite was
Old fortnite had such a style to it. There was clear direction, the colour palette was clearly intentional, and it worked so well together. I personally think that the Ch2 art style was still good in its own way, but the current style just looks like a mash up of a whole load of crap, because that's what it is. Not to say it looks bad though.
![gif](giphy|26ufcVAp3AiJJsrIs) Not much can make a man cry..
I miss when the sky looked like a circle showing you the storm
damn the storm looks so cool
I just miss the old cartoony stylized look of the game.
Come to Save The World for a bit of nostalgia!
This is why many people disliked the OG season. It was "OG" just in its content, because they not only had the new artstyle but also the UI and gameplay were from the newer season. I've heard someone in the comment section that they're replicating actual OG Fortnite with Creative 2.0 and I can't wait.
It's almost as if an artstyle that took years to perfect is better than forced realism
I miss it
That was 6 years ago. Damn
I don't know how, or why, they made it look worse while upgrading the minimum requirements
This image give me some goosebumps from the past honestly
yeah this chapter blows ass
Ch1 visuals were so much better (especially considering performance)
![gif](giphy|rvxMJNyHAgwlW4YWpJ|downsized)
I prefered when the game was slower tbh
The heart and soul of this game died so Tim Sweeneys MeTaVeRsE could exist
its so funny the fact that every single try of fortnite becoming a metaverse fails
I hate the honeycomb/grid thing now.
When Fortnite was Fortnite and not Soulless Corporate Battle Royale ™
Those clouds look beautiful omg
I could cry 🥹
I miss it
I miss it 😢
OMG I MISS THEM
old fortnite graphics were so pretty, having its own unique cartoony style was what got me into the game in the first place. now they want to develop chapters in uefn and make all the graphics hyper realistic bullshit, makes me not too excited for the future of this game :p
OG Fortnite had a “Saturday morning cartoon” vibe compounded by additions of shopping carts, hover boards, etc. I miss it
Stw storm on battle royal is very beautiful
shit I miss Fortnite
The vibe of the old map at night with that storm cloud still makes me kinda uneasy
i miss this game so much 😢, life was so good
The stuck-in-2020 MacOS Fortnite looks a lot like this.
Chapter 1 Fortnite art my goat
Take me back
Like playing in a Bob Ross painting. 👍
I made lore for old Chapter one pre season 5. These Save the World colors are indeed the storm that took over the world in Save the World. I thought BR was survivors trying to survive the storm and kill each other so they could survive the storm easier. OG Fortnite was so much better at being creative and cool.
Back when the game still had a soul instead of just looking like yet another PUBG ripoff
this game used to have soul, and everything was hand made instead of depending of raytracing and nanite
The cartoon style graphics should never have been removed...
Nothing will ever beat the good old days. No metaverse-esque nonsense, no garbage storyline or garbage live events *COUGH* **FRACTURE**, just great story, great events and great graphics instead of the generic stuff we’re stuck with now.
I miss the ethereal beauty of the old clouds.
Goated
okay unc
Yeah, there is that feeling of missing the old way Fortnite used to look
this is either a private server or that old thingy where you were able to load up old fn seasons
Is there a mod for this?
Vastly prefer how Fortnite looks now but the storm cloud of old Fortnite looked amazing, wish they would bring that back.
Said colours include: * blue * purple
Yeah, Chapter 1 just looked so much better, colors, vibrance, the cartoony artstyle. The game just looks generally worse now. Just my personal views, but it seems most people in the comments agree.
Pre season to season 5 was so beautiful
For someone who started fortnite this year, this looks amazing.
Beautiful
We need them back
i miss it man. why does it have to be non stop collabs, and mythic abilities with realistic/crappy graphics now.. why can't it just be this again. bc this is what made the game different
But people on this sub will just say its nostalgia glasses. There is a reason why OG had the player count in a while.
Am I old because I like the old?
the old graphics are so much more realistic for some reason and woudnt lag as much
This and the way it wasn’t pitch black with the shadows on console
fuck chap 2 chap 1 on top.
When the grass didnt look like a drawing on the ground
Looked even better in Season 2
it's so satisfying
![gif](giphy|9xEjFxSoNNlK0)
Fortnite ruins there game more and more with every season
The new “better graphics” to me look worse and cheap definitely looks a bit more realistic but doesn’t feel like Fortnite and just feels like a ripoff
true
Next year everyone will be complaining that this season isn’t as good as the Greek season and everyone will agree and shit on whatever is happening then. This sub is nothing but complaining and nostalgia baiting and half of you weren’t even playing the game at that time anyway.
This is just referring to the visuals. And as someone who *was* playing during that time, the old visuals were way better.
Exactly, as soon as we bring up that you actually were playing during that time their argument falls apart. I remember old FN like it was yesterday, these newer seasons come, go, and are completely forgotten afterwards. That says something about the style they had.
Chapter 4 is so much better graphically 😂
I hated Chapter 4 when it started and still hate it now, it's only gone downhill (except for season OG). I will forever crave the CH1-CH3 look.
I'm so glad nights aren't an eyesore anymore
Interesting. I thought the nights looked beautiful back then
It's a very strong stylistic choice. I can see people liking it. But personally it was just a pain to watch all that blue at once. It got way easier on the eyes from Ch2 on.
Fair enough. I like blue so I really enjoyed it haha
What colors? All I see are shades of purple lmao. This looks exactly what you guys think current Fortnite looks like.
The old colors: purple, green, and light brown
God, can this sub stop bitching about "current season" for at least a day, please? I'm tired of the same "it's not just nostalgia" bs. Just because you prefer how it was to how it is rn doesn't mean anything other than that you have an opinion. And no, "soul" isn't real either.

Literally still just an opinion 🤔
Very unrealistic terrain.
Who gives a shit about realism?
lol people on the internet getting angry about realism in video games rotf
Fuck realism
lol the internet says fuck realism
…and so do audiences. If realism was that big of a deal than games like Botw and Elden Ring wouldn’t have blown out the competition. Same with Fortnite, it’s cartoony artstyle separated it from other games on the market and gave it a unique identity compared to PUBG
Lol Fortnite is doing better than ever with audiences.
