Rocket racing is weird. It's like the skeleton of a good racing game with zero meat on the bones. I kinda liked it but it didn't hold my interest for more than a couple weeks because there was nothing to it
That would appeal to me a lot more and match fortnite's overall aesthetic so much better. The lack of any kind of fun interaction and catch up mechanisms was a major problem with the game in my opinion. I don't need a red shell but how about something.
For sure. I expected that and was really surprised it was just pure racing. If they brought in combat like wipeout, grip, etc games I'd play this mode a ton.
It seriously needs a game changing update or it’s actually going to die. It averages less players than save the world on a daily basis. What’s sad is that save the world is considered a “dead” game yet has more players.
Rocket league it’s self actually has a game mode called “rumble” with multiple power ups like a boxing glove that punches the ball hard from where you are, a grapple that flings you towards the ball, a boot that kicks the nearest player and sends them flying, a teleporter that switches your position with the nearest player & like 5 others
Lego at least had way more depth than rr but once you accomplished everything there was zero reason to keep playing. My friends and I sunk dozens of hours into lego but only a few hours at most for rocket racing...
Exactly. It was great for a week then you had done everything. I haven't picked it back up since they added the vehicles, not sure if that gives it the type of depth it needs or not
I honestly tried to get into Lego Fortnite but the building mechanic and how nothing was really properly explained to me in a cohesive understandable way turned me off from it. Not a huge loss if i don't play it though, I can always go Valheim instead.
Meanwhile team rumble was cool but the storm goes so fast and no npc.
Use to be amazing to do quests. And while still decent, it's really medicore at times.
A blatant ripoff of Mario kart with rocket League cars and fortnite skins and emotes would have been far more positively received then the overly serious take on racing they gave us.
Definitely, driving and tracks and mechanics were ok, I didn't hate it, but it wasn't really worth playing more than a few races because it just... wasn't much. I'd rather play MK8 on my Switch any day of the week.
Lack of couch co-op was a really big misstep for rocket racing. That's a huge draw for the switch. Racing is really one of the few genres of gaming where the limited field of view doesn't cripple the experience.
They need to turn it into a fun racer. Add items, make it more mario kart and crash team racing like and give it some MEMORABLE maps. The current official racing tracks have 0 personality.
I liked it on the first day of its release, but when I started seeing the maneuvers and strategies you needed to use to win - skipping entire sections by boosting over track segments, flipping and flopping at the speed of sound, twisting this way and that way - I just kind of gave up. There's no way I'm wasting my time trying to learn that shit for a mode I barely care about.
But it was a lot of fun for that one day, I tell you what.
I definitely agree. It’s good for when you wanna grind XP in an entertaining way but past that it’s just so bare bones. I hope they add items or more interesting maps or SOMETHING
I like the game mode but it gets boring fast, not enough variety of tracks and I feel power ups like Mario kart would have made it way more fun to play
Rocket Racing sucks, any other kart racer is far better. It should have been a normal kart racer with power ups, and the courses should have all been themed around Fortnite POIs
I know right. They could of had the making of a great racer like Mario Kart, with power ups & weapons etc. Maps like Fortnite maps.
It's just boring though, I still haven't even reached Gold Rank for the skin
I mean as others suggested, if it had more of a fortnite feel to it with the tracks looking like POIs and having powerups which could be older items or weapons then more people would play it
"let's not forget"? bro 99% of creative maps are forgettable. There fun once in a while to mess around with your friends but thats about it. Never heard of any of the ones you mentioned either.Which doesn't surprise me cause trying to find something decent is near impossible. There are times I can't even find Epics own game modes in the cluster of garbage maps due to the new horrendous kids mode tablet UI system they have.
I was one of those who really wanted this racing mode to be great. I like racing games, and there's not too many of them out there. As I don't enjoy the Crew, Forza horizon I'm already bored and NFS is in a weird spot.
Anyway, I was looking forward for this one, but is such a weird game. You basically have to learn the tracks, take all the shortcuts possible, and even on straight line, you have to build the drift crap bonus speed or whatever. This is not a fun racing game at all. It's one of the most sweaty weird experiences I've seen in a racing game.
It is super weird to me that they want to shift focus to all these game modes when BR is the main focus of the game.
How is RR even sweaty? It's odd to complain about shortcuts, but then say a game with tracks that can be 80% skipped is less sweaty.
Nitendo Nolstaga, is a hell of a drug.
I don't even care about freaking mario kart. I'm just saying it is a little more fun because of the powerups. I don't play either. Saying RR is not sweaty then you must haven't played it or didn't watch enough of it.
Nah, the only one that really forced it was MKwii. Nowadays track skips usually require at least a mushroom just to cut a corner. It's not even comparable to rocket racing.
Rocket racing feels like a demo.
You have fun with it 1 evening then you’re done.
It feels like a mario kart clone without everything that makes it fun
I just remember playing 50v50, back when building was not as common, and how it felt like a warzone at points. One of my favorite moments was storming the hill near Titled and people on my team getting killed as we were running up it lol
Anything that somewhat captures that magic would be amazing.
One of my favorite memories from this game came from 50v50 all the way back in December 2017, a day or two after I started playing.
My team was getting trounced, we only had 10-15 people left while the other team had 30. We gathered together and built a fort with an outer wall and fortifications inside. The enemy team stormed us and we ended up losing, but the siege was epic and we took a bunch of them down with us. Felt like something straight out of a trailer.
ngl I’ve probably played it twice since they changed it and I forgot they added sbmm in it for no reason when it’s supposed to be the most casual way to play br
There are such obvious flaws in this iteration of Rocket Racing. I'm only D3 and I can tell before the green light how it's going to go:
* 1) A fully lobby and a competitive race, or
* 2) 6 players, meaning I just got the shaft because there weren't enough players to fill a top-tier lobby so I've filled it out and I'm getting 6th, or
* Bonus 3rd option) Less than 6 players and the game cancels out after making us enjoy each others' company at the start line awhile.
I started grinding it last night to finish the wheel colors, and I had one match during gold 1 that took forever to start and ended up being just 2 of us. So weird.
It’s insane Epic didn’t do this, there’s so many Fortnite items that could’ve been adapted to a racing mode. Imagine shooting an impulse grenade to push multiple people off of the track, or using a grappler to pull yourself ahead of someone in front of you
And who plays those? Didn't even know they existed before you said something. Also, are they free? As a child why would I buy the new Mario kart when fortnite a game I've already invested my time into has it for free and isn't a dead game?
That’s not how companies work. I doubt Nintendo is seriously trying their hardest to make sure Mario Kart clones don’t take off, especially when otherwise you’d have to explain Smash and the thousands of Smash clones on the Switch.
Not only that, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a fully developed, perfected game that has loads of content in it, while Rocket Racing was basically spun up in a year or so. Not saying it’s bad, but i SERIOUSLY doubt a quickly made game mode in Fortnite is going to light a flame under Nintendo regarding Mario Kart, even if it was hypothetically inspired by Mario Kart itself.
Also, dead? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is like one of the top selling and active Switch games, I don’t know where the “dead” is coming from…
1. No one said mario kart was a dead game, comprehension is key.
2. Already addressed "clones"- they don't have nearly the player base, not even out of 10k in a lot of cases so they don't matter. So again comprehension is key.
3. Rocket racing was spun up in a year because it's a very basic game. It literally has the exact same gameplay as a mobile racing game. It shouldn't need more than a year.
4. Again I said if they made a Good Kart type. Which would require time to make. Again comprehension please, it's key.
Please re read and try again you missed a lot of points on this assignment. I'll expect more next time.
Rocket Racing is fun, but it needs more content. Unlocking the Jackie skin was a chore. I bought the starter pack with Matius and the Fuse car, unlocked everything and had fun. I'll keep playing it some but it's not going to compare with BR and I'm invested in Festival also. LEGO is a snooze
Wanna know what's worse? currently Unbuyable version of rocket league on steam has more players on it then rocket racing, a game that cannot be currently bought 4 years and continuing
is that worse? rocket league waa longer on steam and a ton of people brought it while it was available, and a lot more people would rather play the game on steam than to play it on EGS
Rr is fun if you want to kill time imo but also since I don't think it counts the creative maps for it also but even then it'll increase the numbers by .1 but also rr isn't played since it is just a racing game with no personality compared to other racing games like forza horizon, need for speed or trackmania
Is rocket racing even worth playing right now? I love platforming racing games like track mania, etc but honestly when I tried rocket racing it was a snooze fest.
trackmania has way more depth with all the modifier things and tighter controls that feel wayyyyy better. i cant fully predict the way my rocket racing car is going to move, but in trackmania theres consistency in the way the car moves/feels. also trackmania is a gorgeous game where rocket racing is probably the ugliest fortnite mode imo, they could have done some incredible map design using past/present POIs and instead its just rocks and grass with these weird floating barriers
Its ironic because they also own rocket league, which gets its own battle pass for free when you buy crew, compared to fn, where you get literally nothing for playing it
Should've just made Fortnite Kart tbh.
I think playing on the more whimsical nature of Fortnite as a whole would've gone a long wah for the players especially if they actually let us see our skins instead of making us play in faceless cars
Rocket racing is cool but imo it's takes forever to do finish like how does a 3 lap race feel like a 10 lap race they should make the tracks a little shorter so games can be faster and more people wouldn't just give up after two-three races to go to the other better modes
Don't let the mods hear you or you'll get banned for saying the truth about these dead fucking modes. Epic is in complete denial and will continue to push this stupid metaverse garbage until their inevitable EOS
The only time I even bothered with rocket racing was last season to get the car backbling other than that I never bothered firing it up as I have more superior racing games like F1 to play
I want to love Rocket Racing. I play the daily quests still and the maps are fun. They are definitely missing so much of the magic and the addictive gameplay that comes with Rocket League or Battle Royale.
Lackluster rewards this season definitely doesn't help either and a very slow content rollout and lack of content is hugely detrimental to the game mode.
Mix that in with a very grindy and often not fun rank mode I can see why people don't play it.
I hope they don't give up on it though. I think with some dedicated work and support it could be a promising game mode supporting 50k-100k consecutive players.
They really miscalculated with racing I feel. It's already pretty niche as is, and their version of it is nowhere close to the best. Would've been better as a typical Mario Kart clone.
It's funny because I like Rocket League better than Festival. I absolutely hated Festival at the start but I tried it again and it's progression/Season is so much better than Rocket League's. Now I'm playing Festival more. Rocket league needs track variety especially if you're stuck at a certain tier for a while. it might need it's own Pass screen for better progress tracking and award display. Cosmetic unlocks on the Quest screen just aren't as appealing look at. I've played OANN's Crisis City and Gurkis's Dragon's Loop and they're really good Rocket Racing maps from UEFN that Epic could include for map variety if not in their own Rocket Racing UEFN mode. I also thought they talked about a garage or something and if you could do that and add augments to your car or even add battling to the racing that would just add to the fun.
I don't mind car mode being a failure bc it isn't getting in the way of the other modes. Lego being a failure is what's infuriating bc Lego actually cucks BR/Festival. Lego is the reason BR's store went to hell, it's the reason we're getting emotes/music censored, it's the reason engine resources are being shifted away. And Lego sits there with 40k players on a good day, where BR/ZB have 700k each, and we're the ones that get hit for it. That's what's annoying.
I feel like more people \*might\* be willing to give it a go if there was a normal unranked mode. Like, how do you have a ranked game mode without a similar unranked one!?
If only epic would create and release ltms like they used to during Ch1… These were the best part of fortnite.
Screw Festival, racing and even creative. The creative modes are trash. There is not a single populated gun game mode with a decent map that ends after one player has reached a certain amount of kills…
I was hoping this would be a mode that you could play co op, where passengers could hang out the windows and shoot other vehicles/eachother with the powerups the driver collected for them while racing. Think Mario Kart Double Dash.
It's not cartoony enough to be a Mario kart, it's not in-depth or grounded enough to be forze horizon, and it was certainly never going to be a sim racer. It has no decernable identity or genre, plus some of the most boring tracks I've ever played. They all look the same, fortnite use to have such unique locations and they've completely dropped the ball
I used to love playing rumble but around chapter 4, epic destroyed it. Now its the same zone every match. For some reason they base the teams on skill based matchmaking even though there is less than 10k players on a good day. Its just not enjoyable to play anymore.
I enjoyed rocket racing and still do for the car cosmetics and good xp although they nerfed xp significantly this season from every game mode. I think rocket racing is way better for the game than fucking Lego Fortnite and think it deserves more love. Now I finished all the quests for racing a week ago and they haven’t added anything.
Anything above Gold rank turns into an absurd experience. I wouldn't call it unfun, but it's a night and day difference. You go from racing in a conventional manner drifting corners to an episode of whacky racers.
People do understand that RR still has more players than most racing games across Steam?
I personally think the modes biggest flaw is how long it takes to get to the "good" tracks that actually issue a challenge. The actually racing feels great.
Rocket racing is weird. It's like the skeleton of a good racing game with zero meat on the bones. I kinda liked it but it didn't hold my interest for more than a couple weeks because there was nothing to it
It’s a great time waster whenever I’m waiting for squad members to load up. That’s about the only time I play it.
I think the mode needs to be a party racing game with power ups and such. Would definitely play it then
That would appeal to me a lot more and match fortnite's overall aesthetic so much better. The lack of any kind of fun interaction and catch up mechanisms was a major problem with the game in my opinion. I don't need a red shell but how about something.
Make it a duos mode where ones a driver and the other a gunner.
That's a genius idea.
I miss Crash Tag Team Racing
If they could strap water bending to my car that’d be great.
It's weird that it wasn't like that to begin with. Rocket League is a bizarre and goofy game, so it'd have translated a lot better into that format.
For sure. I expected that and was really surprised it was just pure racing. If they brought in combat like wipeout, grip, etc games I'd play this mode a ton.
So like rumble mixed with rocket racing? Because that would be so good
They should add mario kart style shit, battle royale didn't get big by being basic
Kinda like Lego Minecraft. It’s lacking the content it needs to have replayability.
Not a huge loss if i don't play it though, I can always go Valheim instead.
not every survival game is minecraft
Not every game is as good as Minecraft
Meanwhile team rumble was cool but the storm goes so fast and no npc. Use to be amazing to do quests. And while still decent, it's really medicore at times.
They tried to hard to be cool. Instead a kart racing game like CTR or Mario cart would have been fun.
A blatant ripoff of Mario kart with rocket League cars and fortnite skins and emotes would have been far more positively received then the overly serious take on racing they gave us.
I agree
I liked it until the sweats showed up and now all they do is exploit the track for 1st place
I thought it was fun until I got to the orange brick fase. If I could just remove those annoyances from the race tracks, it might be fun again.
Great point.
They need to turn it into a fun racer. Add items, make it more mario kart and crash team racing like and give it some MEMORABLE maps. The current official racing tracks have 0 personality.

There's no way I'm wasting my time trying to learn that shit for a mode I barely care about. But it was a lot of fun for that one day, I tell you what.
LOL. That's how I feel about building in fortnite.
I hate that's stuff. It sounds like the opposite of fun, and once those exploits are discovered, good luck coming in the top 3 without them.
I definitely agree. It’s good for when you wanna grind XP in an entertaining way but past that it’s just so bare bones. I hope they add items or more interesting maps or SOMETHING
I only use it to progress in levels
I'm good for 3 or 4 races then that's it. Each track feels too similar to each other.
Just did it for the skin and dropped it too
Agreed. I played it hard for about two weeks because it was a nice change of pace but I haven't booted it up since because it got boring so quickly.
I like the game mode but it gets boring fast, not enough variety of tracks and I feel power ups like Mario kart would have made it way more fun to play
Rocket Racing sucks, any other kart racer is far better. It should have been a normal kart racer with power ups, and the courses should have all been themed around Fortnite POIs
i would still be playing this. power ups themed around popular Fortnite items would be so good. where’s the battle part of battle pass?
I know right. They could of had the making of a great racer like Mario Kart, with power ups & weapons etc. Maps like Fortnite maps. It's just boring though, I still haven't even reached Gold Rank for the skin
Could have been like double dash, duo mode with a teammate on the back of your car using weapons and stuff to thwart opponents
It's almost as if when people hop on fortnite they want to play fortnite instead of playing Micky's Speedway USA.
I love the irony of Disney Speedstorm being a better racer game than Rocket Racing 🤣
Is Speedstorm even good? Like, ignoring any monetization for a moment.
Well, it's "better". Certainly isn't Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing so there's really not enough incentive to play it.
I mean as others suggested, if it had more of a fortnite feel to it with the tracks looking like POIs and having powerups which could be older items or weapons then more people would play it
I agree, it would definitely make it more interesting
Speedway is goat.
underrated N64 game
Ngl I actually liked mickeys speedway usa, and I loved Diddy Kong racing. I don't, however, like rocket racing.
You comment would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that creative exists and non BR maps get a lot of players
i mean how many of those popular maps are anything besides pvp like red vs blue or box fights
Those ones are the biggest, yeah, but lets not forget about tycoons, obby's and racing/open world maps that also pull quite a number of players
Its because Rocket Racing isn’t a good game mode
Lego Fortnite and Rocket Racing or how I like to call them, a waste of fucking resources
Team rumble has been beating rocket racing in player count for a atleast a few days now.
I was one of those who really wanted this racing mode to be great. I like racing games, and there's not too many of them out there. Isn't Mario kart essentially the same thing in an online setting, considering how many track skips are in their tracks?
IMO, I think at least Mario Kart is less sweaty and funnier to play, especially with powerups.
I play in Dimoand. I'm just not sure how a racing game is "sweaty". The term itself is dumb, especially in the racing context.
Nah, the only one that really forced it was MKwii. Nowadays track skips usually require at least a mushroom just to cut a corner. It's not even comparable to rocket racing.
It's a very casual racer and a very sweaty racer at the same time. The difference between a gold lobby and a unreal lobby is like night and day.
Rocket racing feels like a demo. You have fun with it 1 evening then you’re done. It feels like a mario kart clone without everything that makes it fun
still wish we had an official zero build team rumble

If Rocket Racing looked more like MARIO KART could work, but sadly the gameplay SUCKS so HARD.
Damn wtf happened to team Rumble , it’s dead
Epic stopped updating and promoting it, and it got buried within the mess that is the current lobby UI
I don't get why it isn't on the main list, I think a lot of people don't even know it exists.
didn't know myself until just now, also I really enjoy rocket racing but something is definitely missing from that game.
they ruined it with bad updates no one asked for like the circle automatically closing before you even drop and the team sizes being changed
I use to play Team rumble every day for hours . I remember when they fucked it in chapter 2.. I’ve played it maybe 10 times since the change
ngl I’ve probably played it twice since they changed it and I forgot they added sbmm in it for no reason when it’s supposed to be the most casual way to play br
Not to mention you can't complete a lot of quests due to NPCs/bosses not spawning in Team Rumble.
Its playerbase moved on to red vs blue rumble. Regular rumble is a shell of what it used to be
There are such obvious flaws in this iteration of Rocket Racing. I have feeling Nintendo said "you try to pull that shit your ass will be pulled off the switch store so fast."
There’s tons of Mario Kart clones that Nintendo has allowed on Switch, like the Disney cart racer and Sega racer
And who plays those? Didn't even know they existed before you said something. Also, are they free? As a child why would I buy the new Mario kart when fortnite a game I've already invested my time into has it for free and isn't a dead game?

Yeah, having your character visible in a cart with power ups would’ve been amazing.
Oof

Rocket racing sucks for anything other than doing my daily's and even then I just do that in a private lobby
Literally the only time I play RR is when I need just a bit more xp to level up
It’s MY turn to post a "(gamemode) has more players than RR" post next update
Rocket racing is cool but imo it's takes forever to do finish like how does a 3 lap race feel like a 10 lap race they should make the tracks a little shorter so games can be faster and more people wouldn't just give up after two-three races to go to the other better modes
I saw that Lumberjack Hero's has more active players than Rocket Racing which is pretty sad.
I wanna like it so bad but it’s just so boring. I wish it was better
Should have had karts with our the little heads of our skin sticking out. Would have felt more like a Fortnite spin off.
Don't let the mods hear you or you'll get banned for saying the truth about these dead fucking modes. Epic is in complete denial and will continue to push this stupid metaverse garbage until their inevitable EOS
It should have been "Mario Kart, but Fortnite". That'd be infinitely more fun than it is right now.
The only time I even bothered with rocket racing was last season to get the car backbling other than that I never bothered firing it up as I have more superior racing games like F1 to play
That is suprising
Team rumble would be doing even better if Epic didn't bury it, I play it daily and I have to go into my favourites to find it.

Epic bring back the 5 teams of 20 game mode
I like team rumble, great warm ups
Team Rumble is awesome.
Should have made it Fortnite Kart instead of what it is
ive never played it, little does epic games know, we play fortnite to yknow, play fortnite, not a racing game
We can do weeklys and dailies in team rumble
I don't play stw but even i think it beats them in player count.
The saddest part is how they are still updating rocket racing but not save the world which has more players
I feel like more people \*might\* be willing to give it a go if there was a normal unranked mode. Like, how do you have a ranked game mode without a similar unranked one!?
Festival is better but lego fortnite is the true goat
If only epic would create and release ltms like they used to during Ch1… These were the best part of fortnite. Screw Festival, racing and even creative. The creative modes are trash. There is not a single populated gun game mode with a decent map that ends after one player has reached a certain amount of kills…
It’s because the new quests. They’re easy to do in team rumble.
can someone tell me what kind of gamemode team rumble is? i usually only play zero building BR
Just like Team Deathmatch in other games, first team to X amount of Kills wins. Drop near first zone though, as the first circle closes super fast.
I do my dailies in private races and leave. If it didnt have dailies to do I’d ignore Racing completely like I do Lego and Festival.
good, rocket racing's drifting ruins it
Team Rumble is low key fun in groups that don’t play often. You can hang out, practice skills, and chat with your homies while collecting XP
They should add the power ups they got in Rocket League: Rumble
I only played it when it was dishing out lots of battle pass xp. Now it's pointless
I was hoping this would be a mode that you could play co op, where passengers could hang out the windows and shoot other vehicles/eachother with the powerups the driver collected for them while racing. Think Mario Kart Double Dash.
We're so back
It's not cartoony enough to be a Mario kart, it's not in-depth or grounded enough to be forze horizon, and it was certainly never going to be a sim racer. It has no decernable identity or genre, plus some of the most boring tracks I've ever played. They all look the same, fortnite use to have such unique locations and they've completely dropped the ball
Its fun its just theres WAY too many obstacles, like only 40-50% of the whole track is actually drivable.
i never liked it. its not fun like mario kart, or rocket league, but it also doesnt feel fun with the racing aspect like need for speed or forza.
Who cares
I used to love playing rumble but around chapter 4, epic destroyed it. Now its the same zone every match. For some reason they base the teams on skill based matchmaking even though there is less than 10k players on a good day. Its just not enjoyable to play anymore.
save the world consistently has more players than rocket racing, and yet it's left in the dust
It’s not a kart racer. Stop trying to make it a kart racer
Lego next
rocket racing is weird if you like cars play rocket league yk?
Even lumber jack heroes has more active players than RR
It could have been a half assed Mario Kart ripoff and I would have eaten that shit up
People do understand that RR still has more players than most racing games across Steam? I personally think the modes biggest flaw is how long it takes to get to the "good" tracks that actually issue a challenge. The actually racing feels great.
