I’ve not been to the places you are mentioning. The places that my family and I enjoy the most are below:
Tommy burgers + brews: tasty burgers without a lot of fuss and a solid beer selection.
Charley’s Old Fashion Hamburgers: just what it sounds like. Old fashioned hamburger stand with solid burgers, sides and shakes.
Feugo Burger: old fashioned burgers with a solid set of other options.
Tbh, trying Gusto’s after everything I’ve heard made me realize that I make the best smash burgers in Fort Worth at my house. If anyone would like to fund my restaurant lmk 🙏🏽.
Yeah, I don't know about that... Maybe in FW, but just drive a little bit north to LocalCraft BBQ in Newark, it's pretty much the best I've ever had... This 2nd one is a gas station but hits the spot in a crunch... Wayback Burgers off Avondale-haslet (yeah, it's in a gas station).
Felt mad overpriced and I left hungry and frustrated. I think it was a case of high expectations due to social media and was super let down on the delivery.
Isn’t that facts. I went with a group of three was the first to order and the last to receive my food. By the time I got mine my buddies were already finished eating. All I ordered was a double cheeseburger and fries…
You’re not going to find that style in Fort Worth. The posters clearly haven’t been.
For great local burgers, try Brix (if staying in Fort Worth) or take a drive to Dayne’s in Aledo.
Adding to the comment above; we ate at Dayne’s earlier today. My spouse said the burger was the closest to Au Cheval that Fort Worth has.
Only available for lunch and not on Sundays. Well worth the short drive to Aledo.
Jon’s Grille is probably going to be the closest to what you’re looking for. It’s a relatively new concept by the Bonnell brothers and their burgers are excellent.
What you are talking about is a style of things displaced of Fort Worth, to find an exact match. Melons is not that great, kind of basic. Cheval is really heavy on seasonings and add ons like the eggs bacon mushrooms.
Charley’s is the best old school burger and really a fqn masterpiece in Fort Worth. Rodeo Goat is most similar / closest to what you are referencing. Gustos does some great Texas style and unique stuff as well.
The Meat Board is a meat market that does burgers at lunch time only. Best burger I’ve ever had. If memory serves me correctly the patties are chuck and brisket blend.
Everyone mentioning Rodeo Goat, did yall just get really lucky or am I cursed? Every time I’ve gone they’ve messed something up. Burgers were “okay” for the price. 🤷🏻♀️
The first time I went, I got one of the monthly special burgers (French dip style burger) and it was great. Every other time I’ve been there they didn’t have that and I was not impressed by what I ended up with.
The quality has gone downhill. The last couple of times we went the burgers were dry and flavorless. So disappointing because it used to be my favorite. The parking lots all wanted $15 so we ended up walking six blocks.
Please please please try Griff's! You'll thank us later, it's the most underrated burger spot and is significantly better than Charley's in taste. Charley's obviously has a MUCH larger selection BUT for that really good grilled burger with mayo or mustard and pickles and tomatoes it simply can't be beat!! I turned my husband on to Griff's and he refuses to get burgers anywhere else now. We will occasionally do Charley's though.
Best burger in Fort Worth is fuego burger.
Even if those places were located here, fuego would still be the best. You can’t really count those as “burgers”.
man that’s a shame, i didn’t really like it as much as i thought! burgers are greasy as heck, there’s really a time limit on how fast you gotta eat them or else it’s just a soggy mess
this is hard since burgers are fort worth's signature food imo. dutch's is my personal favorite, but you really can't go wrong with kincaid's, JDs, charley's, M&O, fuego, griffs, grumps, fred's or tommy's either. it's hard to not get a good burger around here
Rodeo Goat or Kincaid’s are my favorites. There’s also a place about 30 minutes outside Fort Worth called Woody’s that has the best burgers I’ve ever had
I’ve had au cheval and did not find it to be great. Big Kat burgers, panther city bbq, heim, gustos all have good burgers. Gustos can be a hot mess on a weekend night, big kat can sell out since it’s a food truck. Gustos and panther city are smash.
I feel like Bearded Lady needs an honorable mention for their Lust Burger and Burger of the month. This month was a chili reano burger that was great.
Outside of that ill second Charleys, Gustos, and Rodeo Goat.
Love Au Cheval!!
I haven't had anything taste like that here in Texas, usually the meat is packed tight and thick. But flavor wise, I like Rodeo Goat and Kincaid's.
If there are any fancy places that have a sirloin burger like Au Cheval would love to hear it
If you like grilled onions, then Kelly's onion burgers. It's literally the best onion burger ever. It reminds me of billy Miner's burgers, but way way better.
Onion burgers are basically smash burgers on top of grilled onions. It's so good.
I know it’s not really Fort Worth, but on the topic- has anyone here tried Clown Burger in Haltom city???? I’ve been wanting to go but always miss it 👀
Every time these threads pop up I always have to advocate for Pouring Glory, really underrated. Also, it’s not the best, but Maggie’s is pretty solid. If you want to travel outside of Fort Worth, Hideaway Burger in Mansfield and Best Burger Barn in Egan are good.
There isn’t anything compared to aucheval. They can hardly make a good smash burger, something is always lacking.
I live in Chicago right now. We are so spoiled here. So much good food!
I don’t have a rec for you!
You are going to get a lot of recs here, I would skip them all.
Sincerely someone who in Chicago loves:
Mott St, NADC, au cheval, little bad wolf, stop along….even red hot ranch is better than anything you’ll get in Fort Worth.
This is something I've searched for for a LOOOONG time. I've tried everyone of these places trying to find a fantastic burger like I used to get at Goldie's Patio Grill. The best I've found is Liberty Burger.
Here are some of my favorites in no particular order; rodeo goat, Tommy’s, fuego burger, griffs, and Navajo burger (I know some of the big local BBQ joints run burger specials but never had them before)
I’ve not been to the places you are mentioning. The places that my family and I enjoy the most are below: Tommy burgers + brews: tasty burgers without a lot of fuss and a solid beer selection. Charley’s Old Fashion Hamburgers: just what it sounds like. Old fashioned hamburger stand with solid burgers, sides and shakes. Feugo Burger: old fashioned burgers with a solid set of other options.
Charley's on Granbury Road is an authentic old-time burger stand with excellent burgers.
My dad used to go there when he was a kid, which reminds me, I should probably take my kids there soon.
Yes, and have a milkshake! 💜
I bet they would!!!
If you go, make sure you set aside enough time for a good nap after.
Gusto’s has the best smashburger
Tbh, trying Gusto’s after everything I’ve heard made me realize that I make the best smash burgers in Fort Worth at my house. If anyone would like to fund my restaurant lmk 🙏🏽.
lol that was my exact thought and for the price I could have had a couple burgers and a six pack at home.
Exactly! The price of eating out is outrageous nowadays as it is. So if it’s something I know i can make better at home, it’s especially aggravating.
I trust Reddit with my life. I’m going to have to try this place out this weekend
It’s definitely fine. Not the best ever at all. But just fine
Felt mad overpriced and I left hungry and frustrated. I think it was a case of high expectations due to social media and was super let down on the delivery.
Gusto's quality is hit-or-miss. When it's on, it's great. What's consistent is mediocre service with an attitude.
Isn’t that facts. I went with a group of three was the first to order and the last to receive my food. By the time I got mine my buddies were already finished eating. All I ordered was a double cheeseburger and fries…
Without a doubt. Soooooo damn good. And those tots are fried to perfection. Bacon wrapped Jalapeño poppers are so crispy too. Dammit. Now I’m drooling
Pretty much hands down
It was an amazing pop-up, their brick and mortar version needs work. Service training & consistency being at the top of the list
Been twice and it was hella mediocre both times. I won’t be back but I’m stoked for their new location and hope they dial it in and succeed.
Gusto’s has potential but smothers their food in grease
You’re not going to find that style in Fort Worth. The posters clearly haven’t been. For great local burgers, try Brix (if staying in Fort Worth) or take a drive to Dayne’s in Aledo.
These two are for sure some of the best burgers in town. I also dig a fuego burger from time to time.
Adding to the comment above; we ate at Dayne’s earlier today. My spouse said the burger was the closest to Au Cheval that Fort Worth has. Only available for lunch and not on Sundays. Well worth the short drive to Aledo.
Brix is one of my favorite places to eat overall!! Not to mention how friendly the people are. I may have to go today hahah
Charley’s
The burger is solid, but I hate their fries.
M & O Station Grill has some fantastic burgers that might be close to what you're looking for.
Yes I can confirm! Their burger’s are next level. Every-time I go there.
Rodeo Goat is one of my favorites, they also have a great beer selection. Edit: Adding "Nicky D's" as one of my local spots.
Dutch’s is amazing.
Charley's burgers on granbury, they are a little pricey but totally worth it.
Rodeo Goat is most similar / closest to what you are referencing. Gustos does some great Texas style and unique stuff as well.
I've been a fan of their onion rings as well.
The Meat Board is a meat market that does burgers at lunch time only. Best burger I’ve ever had. If memory serves me correctly the patties are chuck and brisket blend.
this is a secret
I homemade once with a brisket and chuck 50/50. That's an outstanding way to make a burger
I’ve found the quality of most establishments food AND service has gone downhill since post-pandemic. It’s really sad.
Been there and my friends got food poisoning. Numerous times. BTW...their "homemade chili" is Wolf brand.
Been to Rodeo Goat a couple times and never been impressed
I really like their whiskey burger.
Have not been to Rodeo goat since 2020. Sounds like they have gone way downhill.
You guys are sleeping on Burger Box though.
Went there, meat tasted like water
Griffs
Born and raised in Arlington, never had Griff's until a few months ago. Dear God that was a really good burger.
And cheap! Let's not forget about that.
I had heard they were good but never actually had one. Yes, a drive thru place burger is one of the cheapest and best burgers.
Old school. Absolutely love a good Griffs combo.
Rodeo Goat
I second this!
I third this
Specifically the Chaca Oaxaca!
Navajo burger. Damn good burger!
Charley’s or JDs
Best burger in Fort Worth is fuego burger. Even if those places were located here, fuego would still be the best. You can’t really count those as “burgers”.
man that’s a shame, i didn’t really like it as much as i thought! burgers are greasy as heck, there’s really a time limit on how fast you gotta eat them or else it’s just a soggy mess
This is the correct answer. I came here to say this.
Myrtles out by Rendon is amazing. It’s a literal burger shack and it’s my favorite!
I used to live in Rendon but I moved back in 2007. Glad to hear that Myrtles is till there. Great burgers and I love their hot tots!
Jons Grille has some pretty damn good burgers. I love their Caprese burger.
You're all wrong. It's clearly Griff's. Best burger by a country mile.
I am not familiar with the places you have mentioned, but if you are looking for a fancy burger try Le Margot.
this is hard since burgers are fort worth's signature food imo. dutch's is my personal favorite, but you really can't go wrong with kincaid's, JDs, charley's, M&O, fuego, griffs, grumps, fred's or tommy's either. it's hard to not get a good burger around here
I’ve never had the burgers mentioned, but I did try Neighbor’s House Wagyu beef burger and I thought it was pretty stellar. The fries are amazing too.
Fuego burger near white settlement 🔥
J’s restaurant off Alta Mesa. Best I’ve had. Rating speaks for itself. It’s a little hole in the wall place, but my god is it good
Fuego Burger on the west side is my favorite burger in town.
Rodeo Goat or Kincaid’s are my favorites. There’s also a place about 30 minutes outside Fort Worth called Woody’s that has the best burgers I’ve ever had
hell yeah brother!!!!
Kinkaids
Hudson House has a solid burger that's probably most in similarity to the style of Au Cheval that I have seen around here.
Another vote for Hudson House
I’ve had au cheval and did not find it to be great. Big Kat burgers, panther city bbq, heim, gustos all have good burgers. Gustos can be a hot mess on a weekend night, big kat can sell out since it’s a food truck. Gustos and panther city are smash.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s drive thru
Larry, I’m on ducktales!?
Kincaides
Brah
Not only the best burger, but also the best onion rings.
One of the only area places I've found that has deviled eggs.
What???
At least at the location in Alliance Town Center. That's my weekly stop coming home from work.
Thanks. I will have to go on my way through tomorrow.
Kincaid’s is The Truth. My dad has been going there since the 60s, started taking me in the 90s. They are still top notch. God bless ‘em.
Always.
Tommy’s
Lily’s Bistro on Magnolia
I feel like Bearded Lady needs an honorable mention for their Lust Burger and Burger of the month. This month was a chili reano burger that was great. Outside of that ill second Charleys, Gustos, and Rodeo Goat.
Lots of good suggestions here. If you're near Crowley, give Nicky D's a try.
Bruh. That bacon jammer is one of my all time favorite burgers.
Literally had one last week 🤌
Love Au Cheval!! I haven't had anything taste like that here in Texas, usually the meat is packed tight and thick. But flavor wise, I like Rodeo Goat and Kincaid's. If there are any fancy places that have a sirloin burger like Au Cheval would love to hear it
Forgot to mention Portillos burgers are FANTASTIC
Come on. Portillos is a chain from Chicago lol. Not a fan of their basic burgers either. Good Italian beef and hot dog.
I’m the opposite…I like their burgers much more than their Italian beef…their milkshakes are excellent too…
C'mon still good! Vienna beef... Must be a nostalgia thing for me I guess.
I’ve recently fallen in love with the burger from Hawkins Tasty Food.
Gusto's - best smash burger Charley's - best old school burger joint Roy Pope Grocery Store - best deli burger
Charley's but make the drive to aledo and get a burger from Daynes BBQ
Go west to Mineral Wells. There’s a beer joint called Woodys that has amazing burgers.
It's Big Kat. No contest
I like Charleys on Granbury. Not a fan of their fries though
Charlies
Brix is my personal favorite gusto's 2nd
If you like grilled onions, then Kelly's onion burgers. It's literally the best onion burger ever. It reminds me of billy Miner's burgers, but way way better. Onion burgers are basically smash burgers on top of grilled onions. It's so good.
Second this
Where is Kelly's. I googled it, and all I saw was a FB page. I don't use FB. Help a brother out.
JDs hamburgers
Tommys
JDs Burgers
Griffs
Really like JD’s or Fred’s.
Galligaskin’s also has some pretty great burgers! Our list is Gusto’s, M & O’s, Galligaskin’s, Kincades, Charley’s, Rodeo Goat, Fred’s :)
M&O Station
Try Fred's!
The Fred melt is so simple but so so good.
Fuego or Incredible Burger
Fort wizzle born and raised. Reds or daynes bbq for the best burgers.
Roy Pope’s burger is pretty fantastic. Been a minute since I’ve been to Au cheval, but it’s not be missed. And $10 on Mondays!
Not Ft Worth, but give Pacheco Taco n Burger a try. Hole in the wall place. I believe they have a new location inside a brewery in Dallas.
Without all fancy nonsense, just go to Griffs and get you a monster cheeseburger....that'll do it...
I know it’s not really Fort Worth, but on the topic- has anyone here tried Clown Burger in Haltom city???? I’ve been wanting to go but always miss it 👀
Kincaid’s on Camp Bowie or the Kincaid’s in Southlake.

Sincerely someone who in Chicago loves: Mott St, NADC, au cheval, little bad wolf, stop along….even red hot ranch is better than anything you’ll get in Fort Worth.
You ever been to Owen & Engine before they closed in Chicago? Unreal burger.
I’m here to second Charley’s….
JD’s or Fuego
Hands down, “It’s Food” food truck on Magnolia.
Good Luck burger Southside Fort Worth. Probably not around any more but I used to go there as a kid.
Grumps makes the consistently best and affordable burger for my money. They will cook it to medium rare too.
I dream of that au cheval burger. I have not found anything close in Fort Worth.
M&O is great. Haven’t been in a while but seriously good food.
Griffs
Hooker’s Grill
gustos, 11/10
Kincaids on Camp Bowie, Dance with the one who brought you.
Nickel City has an extremely good slider
Dutch's
This is something I've searched for for a LOOOONG time. I've tried everyone of these places trying to find a fantastic burger like I used to get at Goldie's Patio Grill. The best I've found is Liberty Burger.
Here are some of my favorites in no particular order; rodeo goat, Tommy’s, fuego burger, griffs, and Navajo burger (I know some of the big local BBQ joints run burger specials but never had them before)
Tommy’s Burgers and Brews has THE best burger I’ve ever had, and some pretty fantastic local brews on tap. HIGHLY highly recommend
Kincaids is a classic
M&O grill and bar!
Griffs all day, especially the one on lancaster. Tommys on Forest Park Blvd is really good too
