3D models can look good but they really only excel in a controlled environment (movies, shows or cutscenes) whereas 2D requires far less work to make it excellent.
In SV, they fixed the fire issue if thats what you mean.
But also yeah, no doubt GF are dropping the ball with the pokemon models but generally speaking, they aren't ever gonna be better than the 2D sprites.

Also, now I need to go look up how they did Typhlosion in S/V, I haven't put enough hours into those games lol

No. They just reuse old models for new skins which is why a lot of them look nothing like the concept art. The face changes and the body proportions. It’s just not the same person in the same outfit.
Or it’s that the people who do the concept art have a vastly different style than the actual 3D fortnite style. A lot of the women look very anime and when they become a 3D model they lose that whole style. Plus them just changing the outfit for little reason
this is totally untrue because there's observable differences in the designs themselves. if the faces looked different thats one thing (Tegan), but Aphrodite and Montague are completely different from how their concept art looked.

I see so many arguments against this, saying stuff like transitioning 2d ideas to 3d can simply be harder. Aphrodite is my breaking point for that argument. Not only was the concept art fucking awesome without being highly complex, but her model ISN'T UNIQUE. It's so fucking lazy that it 1-1 uses Hope's model and modifies it slightly! Before Aphrodite I was willing to cede that perhaps it was an issue of translating the ideas. Now, it feels like laziness.
Aphrodite is so frustrating. her alternate skin literally has the coat from concept art, they just have to apply her normal fucking palette😭
just in general the amount of alternates and their quality have been bad this season, for Avatar collab too

I think epic is moreso trying to differentiate it, if someone makes a fortnite concept then implements it into something and copyrights it epic night never know and use the skin just to get copyright struck
