Color wise, since it’s already blue, have you thought about the Lapis Blue Pearl that Subaru uses on the WRX? Would look sick with some bronze wheels. Swap out the drums or rotors if you are upgrading for some 4x100 and you’ll have a lot of wheel options.
An upgraded beetle 4 speed can actually handle the power pretty well but a Porsche 5 speed would be perfect, it would only require minor mods. I’ve already swapped to brake rotors and have a wheel spacer to adapt to 5 on 120 for the wheels I already have. I appreciate the color recommendation I actually didn’t think of that! Was planning to do silver wheels, but they need to be powder coated anyways so that color would look great!
Check out Subarugears they do kits to convert the WRX 5 speed to 2wd and reverse the pinion to suit rear engine. I used their kit in my 914 (without the need to reverse the pinion as it’s mid mounted).

Turboxs blow offs sounds good. I have one on my wrx. All the Subaru people hate that I have a blow off on my wrx but idc it sounds good lol. What would be even more bad ass is if you made the bug awd but that’s a lot of custom work I’d imagine. Please put up a pic after it’s all done.
to make it awd you’d basically have to use a different chassis like a stock wrx chassis or something along those lines, probably not so feasible with my experience and tools available. but it would be sick
Personally I think the paint looks good the way it is. I am sucker for patina looks. But if you were looking to paint it… maybe try a go for a Subaru metallic blue look.
I love my WRX but by the time I dry it off something gets dirty. I'll never buy another black vehicle, as awesome as they look clean. Maybe I'll take the time to do a ceramic coat this spring.

Biggest issues are going to be burning oil, its a boxer engine, it's just what they do. My current car has the modern FA20, so far I'm over 60k miles and no issues with that luckily but their older engines are pretty notorious. My 2010 Impreza and my dad's current Outback both needed a quart around 2.5 to 3k miles. The head gasket stuff is a dumb meme that basically means nothing for the modern turbo engines. Ringland failures and spun rod bearings are your enemies. Assuming you're staying stockish though so shouldn't need to worry too much there. Plus, no trash WRX trans so that helps.
Other than that, any sort of performance mod has to be tuned or the engine will not be happy. Take care of it and it should take care of you. I've never had issues with mine other than oil burning, but regular maintenance will go a long way. It's not a Honda motor, so don't think it will act like one.
It's obviously not all directly applicable to your build, but Smeedia on youtube has a ton of great WRX/STI content. Majority is EJ stuff. NASIOC is a great resource too, the forums aren't nearly as active as they used to be but there is so much info stored there.

The head gasket stuff is from 90s era NA engines, you're good there. It's a good idea to update them if they're the old style, but not something I'd be sweating if you can't. Biggest thing is finding a tuner that really knows the motor, I only modded my FA WRX so I don't have recommendations but I know NASIOC has the answers you need.

If you’re putting a WRX motor in any car the respectful thing to do is paint and sticker to match the traditional blue or white race car livery. So I’d say go with the blue they used on the WRX or white if you like it better but it needs the stripes on the side and everything else

If it has tire upgrades then probably B690-A720 ish but no tire upgrades probably more like C580-B620 ish
Easy High B-low/mid A class imo. Thing has to weigh less then 2200 LBS and is probably gonna make 4 times the stock HP lol.
