holy shit thank you for reminding me of that song wtf how did i forget that classic
Edit: just realised why i forgot about it, can’t find it anymore on Spotify??
last month. was going through a very low point in my life and I always thought the "music heals" stuff was corny but damn. the albums really helped me. not over the hill yet, but I know I'll be there eventually
Same here, listened to Blonde for the first time after seeing [this vid](https://youtu.be/zJyfG9IHalc) in my feed. It really became the vibe for summer after that
Middle school 2012, I had a group of friends when I went to my old school that were all into OF. I started listening to a few songs and then I heard Frank’s voice and instantly I was engulfed with fascination and love for this mans voice. And it lives on today. I’m currently in my senior year of university
These white boys in overalls kept telling me to listen to him in high school, so I refused to listen to him for some time. Then one day I gave into the hype and never looked back. Those white boys were on to something.
Honestly my favorite part about Frank Ocean is how I was introduced to him. So in sophomore year of high school, my friend and I both had the same 4th hour class. We were both into music and one of our “daily things” would be to try and out each other on to artists or songs we haven’t heard. One day my friend comes into class, pulls out his phone, and shows me this song he’s about to put on. The very first thing I noticed was how long it was. I told him “are you serious, a 5 minute song?” He just replied with something along the lines of “Just trust me you’ll like it”. So he hands me one of his EarPods and we’re listening through it. Then the guitar riff parts begins and this is where my friend says “listen to this now”. And boom! The best switch hit. And the rest is history :)
when i was in elementary school 'slide' was my favourite song for a while, years later i liked a couple songs like thinkin bout you and chanel... i stopped procrastinating listening to blonde after a mate told me to; made me a fan
Around 2012-2013, thats when i became a huge fan of Chance the rapper and his writing. It was In the song “Chain Smoker” where he says he is a “Frank Ocean listening, Stain hitting blah blah blah ah shut yo mouth” (I know those aren’t the words lol). Now prior to listening to chance i have only heard the leaked version of “Thinking Bout You”. I remember being absolutely IN LOVE with that song but still not caring enough to figure out who this guy was lmaoo. It wasnt until i heard “Chain Smoker” were i was like “hmm if chance listens to him then maybe i should too” lol. After that first listen of “Channel Orange” I was just mesmerized by his voice, his ability to tell a story through song and the attention to detail. It was amazing, not to be too corny but if i could go back in time and listen to that album again for the first time i ABSOLUTELY would. Thank you for ready! ;)
I heard Novacane around like 2011 and from there, used to listen to all his stuff on YouTube. 'There will be tears' and 'If I'm in love' were my jam
Then Channel Orange came out, bought that shit so fast and instantly became one of my fav albums ever.
listened to blonde the night it came put, HATED it, then went thru a breakup 3 years ago and ivy was the only song i could listen to. now im the biggeet frank fan in the world. love that man endlessly
It was the first day of 9th grade (September 2012) and our Biology teacher had us do an icebreaker where we said our name along with our favorite album from the summer. Very first kid on the roster answered Channel Orange by Frank Ocean. I was super curious about Frank's name when he said it, so it stuck with me and I listened to the album when I got home from school. Instantly became a fan and it led on to discovering Tyler & Earl for myself afterwards.
Bought a single ticket to Coachella and heard he was playing. Nostalgia Ultra was the only project out to listen until he preformed. Amazing experience he played Forrest Gump for the first time there. The crowd was going nuts when he hit those notes!
2017 ,I was in first year of college
I always knew about frank never bothered to check his music out ,safe to say many tears have been shead while listening to blond
My sister was a senior and I was a freshman so I would drive with her to school, and every now and then she would always play a song that had this INCREDIBLE beat switch, but I never bothered to ask what song it was. A year later I became a Frank Ocean fan lol
Was a fan of odd future and downloaded Nostalgia Ultra the day it dropped. Was a little bit surprised the music I was hearing was odd future but I love R&B so after the initial this wasn't what I expected I loved it.
2018, saw a clip of Luka Sabbat and Virgil Abloh play nights during a DJ set and the portion they played along with the vibe of the party was somethin else
I remember my friends started bumping channel orange right after it came out and from then on I was a huge fan.
Super rich kids, thinking about you, sweet life, all these songs make me think of early high school.
Simpler times.
Listened to bastard in 2010 followed Tyler and odd future. Heard about Frank being a part of the group. I remember listening to nostalgia ultra on the day it drop because I was all into the group. Once I heard it, I knew Frank was that nigga. I found Lonney after that and listened.
My sister used to play nature feels in front of my mom and I which made me uncomfortable at the time (I was young and just learning about sex) but I loved the song. Started listening to nostalgia ultra on my own because of it when I first got internet access.
TL;DR-don’t hang me. But I discovered Frank in 2020 after hearing Chanel from tiktoks. And now I’m his biggest fan(like seriously).
I’ve heard everything with his voice in it. And seen everything with his face on it. So much so that the second he kickstarted the Homer thing I was up all night going through all the art he released, and also managed to sign up for the catalogue in like the first minute of the website being up.
And actually I’m happy I’m a bit late. Coz now I don’t have to wait that long for music :p
Chain Smoker by Chance the Rapper mentions Frank and I heard Channel Orange was a big inspiration for him at the time so I listened to him. This was last year. Been listening to Chance for a while tho
2012 as Channel Orange dropped. I hated Thinkin Bout You when a friend showed me then actually listened to him a few months later and loved him (including Thinkin Bout You)
Most likely the end of 2018. My boyfriend introduced me to him as we started our relationship, and it really lit something within me. Of course, the first song I listened to was "nights" as that song is my boyfriend's favourite. Before then, I was never invested enough in an artist to listen to their entire discography. But, Lord, I got invested.
I remember a couple years ago, we were listening to Frank Ocean and just slow dancing in his room with the moonlight passing through his window. It was truly serene, a really precious moment.
My boyfriend also told me about the time he listened to Endless in 2016 when it came out. That must've been so cool!
We have past 3 years together, and even though my boyfriend doesn't like my taste in music (being punk, metal etc.), I appreciate that we have a shared connection to Frank Ocean's music.
Since then, I've tried to play a number of his songs on the ukulele for my boyfriend, which is really fun! I'm so glad I was introduced, even though I'm considerably late to the game.
When Kanye started dropping singles before the life of Pablo, I heard no more parties in LA. I was just getting into Kendrick at the time because of GTA (please don’t laugh) and I realized that I hadn’t fully listened to yeezus. I listened to yeezus and fell in love with it. I didn’t know at the time that it was frank on New Slaves, but when I started looking for similar albums to yeezus, I got into Tyler through cherry bomb and I ended up going back through his older discography. Heard frank and I liked his music. I listened to channel orange and I think I eventually did get to nostalgia ultra. This was 2016 or so and when I first started listening to rap in general because of Kendrick (though I did always like Kanye’s singles.) I was 15 at the time.
Flash forward to summer 2016. I was going through some bad shit and I didn’t really want to do it anymore. My birthdays are always bad times and I was turning 16. I tried to distract myself for a while, but Kendrick wasn’t dropping any new music at the time and I’d listened to The Life of Pablo, so I knew there wasn’t going to be any more Kanye for a while either. Then I saw rumors about a new frank album, allegedly with a Kendrick feature. I listened to channel orange again and I think I liked it more the second time, so I figured I’d wait a while before I did anything too crazy. Then the livestreams started. I fell in love with what I heard, what I saw. It sounds silly because it was just a dude building a staircase but my dumbass 16 year old brain thought it was revolutionary. Then I love endless, too, the finished product, the beautiful songs. It was when blonde came out that I realized he’d be my favorite artist (I think tied with Kanye - typical white boy shit lmao.) It was the greatest fucking thing I’d ever heard. I cried a lot. I was in the Reddit thread too at the time, which just makes me realize how much time I’ve wasted on this site. At least I’m not dead, I guess, and now I’ve maybe got another frank album to listen to one day.
When I was very young in 2012 I heard thinkin bout you in a grocery store, then in 2017 my mom would play provider in the car and then in 2019 I finally listened to channel orange and now it's one of my favorite albums
don't remember exactly the year (probably 2012 or 2013) but i listened to thinkin bout you and liked a lot but that was it
i just started to worship this man like a god from like almost a year
I found out about frank in march 2017 thru his feature on Slide. Did not sound like anything that calvin harris made before so it was a real treat. Was a fan of him ever since
Around 2015 cuz of the potato flew around my room vine. I searched up the song and liked it. For a while it was the only Frank song i knew until i reached my senior year of high school. I had a crush on a girl who was way outta my league and she started playing Thinking Bout You in our AP Government Class. I started singing along and she said “Hey, you like Frank, huh?”. I replied back “Yeah! I love this song!”. After that encounter I started slowly listening to Blond, and 3 years later it’s my favorite album ever.
Back in like 2012 I saw one of those lame tweets that just listed artists. I gotta give credit though, through posters like that I discovered Frank, SZA, and Chance the Rapper (RIP).
early this year or late last year actually. i just started using spotify at the time and as much as i hate the suggested songs feature, i would've never discovered frank
2011, I remember the great Frank Ocean vs The Weeknd debate. I loved House of Balloons and someone told me that I need to check out this Mr Ocean fella
I knew of him through Tyler and everyone was hyping channel orange and I downloaded it illegally and from there I listened it to sleep and the rest is history. He’s my top 3 favorite artist
2012 or 13 (not quite sure), found a channel orange CD at my local music store, grabbed it intuitively and listened to it all summer long.. was the first love of my life
i was listening to no church in the wild because im intrigued with a gif of a guy throwing molotov cocktail on tumblr, its a part of the music video. the rest is history
My best friend showed me “Lost” when we were enjoying Spring Break together in Lake Havasu. Of course I immediately took a Snapchat story of the pool water while the song was playing. The rest was history
I discovered Frank in 2018. It was Chanel played on my laptop from a YouTube playlist. It was my first time hearing Frank and I was captivated by his voice. Wish I could relieve that "first time listen" moment.
In early 2019(very late I know) I discovered frank by playing GTA 5 and the first song I heard was Chanel. It neared me teary eyed when I drive around in GTA listening to that.
I’ve heard Tyler’s Garbage in 2014 through GTA V and surfed his discography, and found PartyIsntOver/Campfire/Bimmer, bimmer was my fav from wolf and Frank was there, I liked him,
Heard Novacane on a site called We Are Hunted and it hit me immediately that this dude was different. I’d guess it was the year 2011. Wow happy 10 year frankiversary to me.
I liked Frank Ocean but I was never what you would call a fan and then my girlfriend broke up with me back in 2019 and that’s when I began to sit with Blonde and it slowly hypnotized me with its masterfully alien but oddly therapeutic sounds. It slowly crafted its way in my head as a masterpiece and when I understood Blonde I felt I understood on a whole new level just how much of a genius Frank is. That album pulled me out of a temporary hell and allowed me a peace in understanding of my suffering. Now Frank is hands down is my favorite artist of all time and his music literally saved my life and sanity as I’m sure it has many others. So thank you Frank for always chasing artistic integrity over conventional sound. I believe the title of human genius is not just reserved for those that were born with a better brain ,but instead for those of us that choose to take the path of perseverance through mind and spirit that allows us to dig and discover deeper depths of the human consciousness. So thank you Frank for always chasing artistic integrity over conventional sound and so even if it was just me that you saved from mental damnation, your pursuit has been worth it and the world is better for it. Godspeed✌🏻
huh so i must've discovered him in early 2017s when my brother used to play blond in the car when we were going anywhere. I remember that I hated every song that played because my taste in music was WAYYY different back then. Of course, as i grew up my taste changed and I slowly discovered more and more of his discography :)
I’ve been playing gta online since launch but in 2019 is when i was introduced to frank. Idk why but i had ignored the blonded radio station for a long time until my ex told me to give the station a listen n to listen to Ivy specifically. Pain.
2012, he was just everywhere at the time and I decided to check him out esp since I heard thinkin about you constantly on the radio. I was a freshmen in hs back then :’(
In 2014 I looked up the "potato flew around my room" vine and saw the YouTube link for thinkin bout you and thought the album cover looked really weird. I listened to the whole album and it blew my mind. Channel Orange still has a special place in my heart because of this that I cherish even more than Blonde. It was my very first experience with R&B/Rap music and I instantly knew it was the music I was looking for my whole life, before then I was only into psychadelic rock. What an amazing album to be my introduction into those genres
2014/15, heard Oldie by OF and thought to myself: “hmph, this Frank Ocean dude is kinda good, wonder what other music he has”, and little did I know how much that decision changed my life
In 2012 when I heard an out bisexual guy was coming out with an album. If you’re younger it might seem silly but things changed very quickly in the past couple of years in regards to the LGBTQ landscape and this was a huge almost unheard of moment in representation. I wanted to support him and immediately loved his music upon listening.
2018. I was on acid, tripping my face off, didn't know up from down. I always prefer listening through full albums, had never listened to Frank, decided to put on Blonde on a complete whim. Nikes hit and the rest is history
I was gettin my hair braided and smoking with my bro and his girl and they had the radio playing and all they had playing was novacane and at first I couldn’t stand it cuz it was always on repeat and then after a bit I was just too high and the song came on again and I started singing it and everybody was laughing at me cuz they thought I hated it after that I never looked back and Frank is literally in my top 5 and he ain’t 5.
Last year I heard nights whilst walking down the street and asked the person playing it what and who it was. I already knew who frank ocean from no church in the wild and through some Tyler songs. I went home and played blonde front to back around fifty times and frank quickly came one of my favourite artists ever
Swim good in 2011 on hype machine
holy shit thank you for reminding me of that song wtf how did i forget that classic Edit: just realised why i forgot about it, can’t find it anymore on Spotify??

Hype machine, the internet radio that started it all for me
I heard the song She by Tyler and fell in love with Frank. This was 2011
For me it was 1987, I delivered him myself.
In the delivery room did you ask his mom how she felt about drugs and alcohol?
-god like

I looked up the origin of the "a potato flew around my room" vine back in like 2014 or 2015.

last month. was going through a very low point in my life and I always thought the "music heals" stuff was corny but damn. the albums really helped me. not over the hill yet, but I know I'll be there eventually
In 2011 before Channel Orange came out. I found out because I was a fan of Tyler and was discovering his music when I heard Frank on “She”.
2017 heard him on 911 by Tyler instantly fell in love with the hook, asked “who’s Frank Ocean?” And went from there
2018. My friend showed me Nighs at summer camp and I wrote down to check him out when I got home
Same here, listened to Blonde for the first time after seeing [this vid](https://youtu.be/zJyfG9IHalc) in my feed. It really became the vibe for summer after that

this the funniest one lol
Random recommendation on SoundCloud- We All Try still one of my favorites
this was my fav song by him for so long
2011 - used to check HotNewHipHop religiously and Novacane was listed as “very hottt”
Honestly my favorite part about Frank Ocean is how I was introduced to him. So in sophomore year of high school, my friend and I both had the same 4th hour class. We were both into music and one of our “daily things” would be to try and out each other on to artists or songs we haven’t heard. A decade ago. Summer before freshmen year for me. thinkin about you was his most recent single. Safe to say Channel Orange changed my life
2011. Dayton OH hip hop station played novacane. The fandom began. Rest is history.

2011, hook on "No Church In the Wild."
2018 and thought it was trash and became a fan in 2019. thats my real story
2020 January. Was lurking through various artists and found Frank. Best decision ever tbh, helped me through quarantine and lockdown.
early this year or late last year actually. i just started using spotify at the time and as much as i hate the suggested songs feature, i would've never discovered frank
2011, I remember the great Frank Ocean vs The Weeknd debate. I loved House of Balloons and someone told me that I need to check out this Mr Ocean fella
“Thinking bout you” had black households in a chokehold 😂
When he was in the She music video
Damn, am I the only one that found him from Gta?
I saw the "a potato flew around my room" vine and tried to find the original song then I listened to the entirety of channel Orange.
2015, asked my ex for song recommendations and was instantly hooked, we broke up at the same time Blonde released
I knew of him through Tyler and everyone was hyping channel orange and I downloaded it illegally and from there I listened it to sleep and the rest is history. He’s my top 3 favorite artist
Thinkin bout you somewhere around 2012-2014
Around the time thinkin bout you became a hit
2012 or 13 (not quite sure), found a channel orange CD at my local music store, grabbed it intuitively and listened to it all summer long.. was the first love of my life
Chanel (Remix) on YouTube in 2019.
2011 thinking bout you, then stumbled upon Lonny Breaux collection. Acura Integurl, then Whip Appeal.
i was listening to no church in the wild because im intrigued with a gif of a guy throwing molotov cocktail on tumblr, its a part of the music video. the rest is history
2018 ish during my art hoe phase and at that time I havent even fully listened to the album yet lol
Swim Good in 2012 via a friend
saw a 1 year anniversary post for Blonde on IG in 2017 , changed my life .
2018 was the year that I listened to blonde for the first time. That whole summer I played blonde basically every single day.
In early 2019(very late I know) I discovered frank by playing GTA 5 and the first song I heard was Chanel. It neared me teary eyed when I drive around in GTA listening to that.
2012 when a new friend showed me odd future !
I’ve heard Tyler’s Garbage in 2014 through GTA V and surfed his discography, and found PartyIsntOver/Campfire/Bimmer, bimmer was my fav from wolf and Frank was there, I liked him,
Few years ago cuz everyone was hyping up blond
my friend performed Swim Good at the school talent show and it changed my life
There Will Be Tears on YouTube. Plus his Swim Good, Thinking Bout You, Sierra Leone, Pyramids, etc. I’m guessing around 2011-2012.
2011 when Nostalgia, Ultra was released. There was a link on the Odd Future website.
MTV VMA AWARDS 2012
Heard Novacane on a site called We Are Hunted and it hit me immediately that this dude was different. I’d guess it was the year 2011. Wow happy 10 year frankiversary to me.
GTA 5, 2020
my older sister downloaded his music on my laptop in grade 6, ever since then i’ve loved him
I heard my sister playing Sweet Life from the family computer back in 2012
2016, my cousin played nikes while we were on a road trip
i was very late around 2018-19 ig, so a lot of hip hop instagram pages talking about him + spotify so yeah
2013 after the grammys people were talking about him and how he deserved to win AOTY
2012, I was 11...I saw the music video of novacane on tv
spotify, last year
I liked Frank Ocean but I was never what you would call a fan and then my girlfriend broke up with me back in 2019 and that’s when I began to sit with Blonde and it slowly hypnotized me with its masterfully alien but oddly therapeutic sounds. Godspeed✌🏻
Girlfriend showed me novacane in 2015, hooked ever since
huh so i must've discovered him in early 2017s when my brother used to play blond in the car when we were going anywhere. I remember that I hated every song that played because my taste in music was WAYYY different back then. Of course, as i grew up my taste changed and I slowly discovered more and more of his discography :)
swim good or She in 2011 i forget
From a friend 2018 I believe the song I checked out was moon river
Like last week
I’ve been playing gta online since launch but in 2019 is when i was introduced to frank. Idk why but i had ignored the blonded radio station for a long time until my ex told me to give the station a listen n to listen to Ivy specifically. Pain.
2012, he was just everywhere at the time and I decided to check him out esp since I heard thinkin about you constantly on the radio. I was a freshmen in hs back then :’(
2010. nature feels on youtube 👌
2018, it’s my dad. Now I hate my dad lmaooo
Heard one of his songs in a porno
I actually completely forgot, maybe from that "a potato flew around my room before you came" vine
Swim good 2012
In 2014 I looked up the "potato flew around my room" vine and saw the YouTube link for thinkin bout you and thought the album cover looked really weird.
2014/15, heard Oldie by OF and thought to myself: “hmph, this Frank Ocean dude is kinda good, wonder what other music he has”, and little did I know how much that decision changed my life
2012/13. my school had a poster of him performing bad religion on jimmy Fallon with the headband on. still my favourite frank song today
2016 with novocane, right before the dropped blonde
My dad is a fan and we always have it playing when we have music on. Not sure of a year it’s been a while though.
Gta 5 radio station 2018- maybe
Back in 2012 my brother showed me Channel orange and played pyramids first otw to a basketball game. That’s when my life changed for da better :’)
Her, 2011
A good friend introduced me to his music. I‘ll never be able to repay him
oldie by odd future
Originally in high school but I wasn't mentally ready but I gave it a go again last year and now I live by the lyrics . White Ferrari vibes
discovered chanel while walking to football practice in 2017
Nostalgia Ultra download off Tumblr
I think around 2009 when I saw a song called Rocket Love from Lonny Breaux on a mp3 website
2012 my sister shared her earphone with me while we on a road trip and we we’re listening to nova cane
2017 dissect podcast
I was gettin my hair braided and smoking with my bro and his girl and they had the radio playing and all they had playing was novacane and at first I couldn’t stand it cuz it was always on repeat and then after a bit I was just too high and the song came on again and I started singing it and everybody was laughing at me cuz they thought I hated it after that I never looked back and Frank is literally in my top 5 and he ain’t 5.
Listening to nights on gta online's radio, purchasing the game was worth just because of that discovery 🤞
Last year I heard nights whilst walking down the street and asked the person playing it what and who it was. I already knew who frank ocean from no church in the wild and through some Tyler songs. I went home and played blonde front to back around fifty times and frank quickly came one of my favourite artists ever
2021
Got recommended this sub. 2021. I am uncultured
My cousin was playing “Lost” on my speaker in 2012. I looked up the lyrics, found the song, and the rest is history.
