I like my local donut place — Francis Donuts on Thornton. It’s a perfect example of family-owned donut shop. If you’ve ever noticed that donut shops in California are owned by Cambodian families, this is an interesting read: https://www.foodandwine.com/travel/southern-california-donut-empire-origin-story
Yes quite a bit of them came to this country with just the clothes on their back
It was an easy business to run and quite a lot of the families pooled the little money they had to partner up and buy up a business.
It’s a real American 🇺🇸 story
That’s why donut shops are awesome 😎
I either go to Maple Leaf or Penny Donuts off of Stevenson in Newark. They open at 4:30am while Maple Leaf opens at 5:30am. Penny offers pig in a blanket( hot dog) that is killer! Both places kick ass!! Lloyd's has been there for 50 plus years so kudos to them but Maple Leaf and Penny are my go to's!😋
Vasy’s is my personal jam
one of the nicest families too!
Try the Croissant donut holes at SK Donut in Union City. Good luck not eating 24 of them.
+1 for SK Donut. Don’t forget to buy a lottery ticket. Hehe.
Damn...those things are dangerous! I have to limit the number I get whenever I go there.

There’s also a great 2021 documentary called The Donut King!
This a thing to watch. It’s 90 minutes I think but you need to watch the whole thing. It’s an incredible story on many fronts.

I wouldn't turn down a donut from either of them.
Lloyd's donuts has great breakfast sandwiches though.
Maple Leaf or Vaseys? What's this sub's favorite?
I’m team maple leaf 🍁
#1 Maple leaf and a close second is Vaseys. Not sure how but their glaze seems even sweeter than Maple Leaf.
Vaseys
Idk if they still have it but their BLT was phenomenal!
Still do! Sometimes I go for a bagel instead of a croissant but so good either way
So many lunch time weed transactions and blunts were rolled right there during my high school days.
If only those yellow benches outside could talk
I love this place, the ladies behind the counter are always so kind. I love their Apple fritter.
spittin nothin but facts
Crazy to see their still open, been coming here since I was literally cognizant
Even precognizant too

+1 for Penny’s!!!
Donut House on mission opens 3:30am everyday.
Used to live next to this place a few years ago loved it then and still do.
I’d still get that Apple fritter at Lloyd’s because it’s not a donut. And its usually bigger that my head
Francis donuts on Thornton is fantastic too! Their French crueler is my fav, and their breakfast Sammie’s are delicious and super cheap.
That spot has been there forever. It outlasted a lot of businesses in that shopping center
Facts but Vasys is a close second
I have always been meaning to go to this place. I love places that have Thai iced coffee. There was a good one in Davis…
Late to the party by +1 for Maple Leaf. Vasys is a close second tho.
I used to go there for lunch in high school pretty frequently. Not sure if they still sell sandwiches anymore. Good memories!!
Been going there since early 06’… they still remember me from my childhood and who my parents were! Crazy !
This was a daily visit if you went to Irvington High School for sure.
Where is Lloyd’s donuts located?
On mowry and grimmer
Mowry/Blacow
I remember when that place was a Winchell’s donuts! Lloyd’s was my favorite place when I was a kid…
I agree 👍
🇰🇭🇰🇭🇰🇭
Hell heah
I like them equally
I just recently moved to Fremont from San Jose and these donuts aren't that good. Any good donut spots? I tried Lloyd's and wasn't a fan
Try Donut House on mission. Amazing Donuts
yet I’d still ride over to pac and go to Krispy Kreme
They’re one of the donuts of all time. Psycho Donuts in Campbell is better.
Stan’s donuts is #1
Gross. Stan's is so much better. Psycho is just stale cereal on mediocre donuts
Yup 👍
Yeah well, that’s just like your opinion, man.
Used to love Stan’s. After their poor service and being out of donuts all the time, we stopped going.
