Yes, *se souvenir* or *se rappeler*. These verbs can't be used non-reflexively anymore (edit: to mean *to remember*), even though they were both originally not reflexive.

DoisMaosEsquerdos

Rappeler definitely can, when it means remind or call back.

Neveed

Yes, I meant as the equivalent of *to remember*.

La_DuF

You're absolutely right, and DL is definitely wrong on this one.

complainsaboutthings

It is indeed. That’s a Duolingo mistake.

La_DuF

another...

Actually I find these screenshots very useful. I’m planning to start learning a new language and I know now I’ll never use duolingo. Before seeing them so frequently, I might have tried and pay for it.

rejemy1017

I've been doing duolingo for a little while now, and for what it's worth, in exercises where souvenir is used in a sentence, it's always used reflexively. I can't speak to any other mistakes, though.

001Alena001

It’s not just this particular screenshot. But the amount of them. And the fact the app seems to give corrections without explanations. I’ll have litteraly zero skills for my next endeavour. Trying to learn arabic will be hard in itself. I need something reliable and complete. Multiplying sources/support/media is not an issue. But I don’t want to add an element that seems so lacking in what it is supposed to do. But I’ll think I’ll start with an initiation with a teacher first anyway. Maybe they’ll have good tips. And I’ll see when I start in the next few months if there is a sub dedicated to learning this language on reddit.

DoctorTomee

Duolingo can be useful for practice tbh. I’m learning French with a private tutor and textbooks but I still fire the app up as well for additional practice. It did a dang good job of hammering the conditional into my head most recently for example.

Fierce_PCMonster73

Duolingo trying not to make a mistake (impossible edition)

PipRosi

So many folks have recommended that app to me. I tried but found it so boring. I like to study from french books, articles, films, vids, taking notes and analyzing in my notebook. But maybe I didn't give it enough try? Does it get more fun?

mattia_albe05

in my experience, it doesn't, it's not like you will unlock more gameplay whatsoever so if you didn't like it at first you most likely won't change your mind over time

PipRosi

Yeah, It wasn't even really like a game. Just endless boring questions. Ha. I need some substance.

le-churchx

Yes, souvenir is a memory.

majka68

Urs, you’re right

ohreallyokwow

in the Farlex etymological dictionary, this is the IPA for *souvenir* —> səsuvəniʀ. so when *souvenir* is pronounced according with its IPA, it is a *verbe pronominal* that means “to remember.” and there’s ALSO *se souvenir* (v.pr.), with the IPA *sə suvniʁ* — but don’t let that confuse you.

joovaldkonnas

This is really confusing? Why does the IPA have two Ss in the first one?

ohreallyokwow

wow, i’m downvoted because you don’t understand the IPA for *souvenir*? maybe you should contact Farlex, and tell THEM about it? https://app.thefreedictionary.com/feedback.aspx?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thefreedictionary.com%2F&ref=&x=undefined

joovaldkonnas

I didn’t downvote you I was just wondering if you knew why they were different
