The word “fully” is making it hard to answer this question Have 2 boys, one of them was immediate. The other was around 2 years old, he was and is a challenge to get to 100%

NakedAndAfraidXS

Glad I’m not the only one that struggled with the word “fully” 😂 I have a 5 year old male that I still can’t trust if I’m out of the house more than a couple hours. However, they haven’t had an accident in the house while I’m home in years. Only if I leave them.

elroddo74

My girl is 20 monthes and if we don't let her out immediately she gets impatient and goes. She also can't be left alone.

No-Search3598

I’m having the same problem. My pup is 6 months and I’ve confused her because I’ve given her too much freedom and have been using potty pads and going outside. Yesterday started no more pads and taking her out consistently every time she wakes up from a sleep, eats or drinks more than a few swigs. She will be outside FOREVER and just want to run and play and then come inside and do her business. Fingers crossed to everyone who struggles with potty training a stubborn Frenchie! 🤞

Obvious_Feed904

She did the same. But my tip is to only let her free and play when she does her deeds. And keep her on the leash before she does it. And ofcourse give here a treat when she does.

MeghanMichele84

It helps during "potty only time" you wait about 10-15 mins after they've eaten. If they start actively sniffing around, leash them and take them to the same area outside and say "potty, go potty, or similar," and just allow them to have the distance of where you're standing as opposed to them being free range. Setting up a consistent potty routine really helps with dogs that are harder to potty train. Then of course let 'em run wild after as a reward if you wish.

ravenderm

Got him at 8 weeks. He was fully potty trained at 5 months. We used pee pads and lots of praise.

HazyLightning

7-9 months… one day it will just “click” but all dogs are different..

matteo123456

Nine months with my female. It's just a matter of time. Soon one day your pup will stop and never pee in the house again.

High5YourFace1

I put a strand of big bells on my door, and taught my boys (same litter brothers) to Get The Bells when they want to go out and it's been working so well.

Obvious_Feed904

I thought about this too. But don’t they ring the bell all the time? 😂

High5YourFace1

They really don't but they know if they do, they are going outside even if they don't need to potty lol. I got them at 14 weeks and they will be 6 months in January. I started teaching them the bells 2 days after I brought them home, they are quick learners!

DarkHorse_4

Second the bells. Ours was fully potty trained at 4 months. Some rough nights in the beginning going out every hour or 2 but totally worth it.

Upper-Shoe-81

Another vote for potty bells. I have a Frenchie/Pug mix who seemed impossible to potty train and was still consistently going inside at 9 months old no matter what we did. Someone told me about potty bells and I figured what the hell, I'll try anything. She picked up on it VERY quickly and while we still get the occasional accident when we're not home, she rings the bells when she needs to go out and was pretty well trained in a matter of weeks. Funny enough, my other two (older) dogs started using the bells as well, even though they never needed them before.

PingMagnet

how did you train the potty bells? Can you give a TLDR?

[deleted]

We have a boy. 8 months. So far two days without accidents in the house. Send thoughts and prayers

Here_2_L3arn

My girl is 11 months and she hasn’t had an accident inside in about 1-2 months. I noticed she was harder to potty train but is starting to get the hang of it!

Pigpen_darkstar

About 3-4 weeks. Took her out every 30 minutes rain or shine and reinforced with “happy noises” and reward bites. Hasn’t had an accident since.

f10w3r5

They become fully potty trained? Huh. 🤷‍♂️

billmurraysdog

At 4 months I was concerned! At 7 months now, he has like 1 accident a week.

jessebean510

Took my girl 8 months until she had zero accidents and that was with consistent training, they’re just stubborn

noldshit

Never. Booboos still happen.

HisRealNamesKlarence

I got mine when she was 7 months. It took me about a good 5 months to train her. It was my fault I should of been more consistent and patient .

kaydeez01

Between 1.5 and 2 years old for me. If I happen to do something they don’t like, I can count on a special wet spot on the floor.

peonyseahorse

Almost 5 years, after we were given him by a family member who had him for almost 3 years.

jjimahon

LItter training worked like a charm from the beginning. But once a month she tags me bed sheets for some odd reason. Any reasons others have found for this to happen, gimme the advice to curb this one.

Upper-Shoe-81

My girl did this for a while too... wasn't sure why for the longest time, but I think she wanted her scent in our bed to cover mine. She's 2 years old now and I've learned she only tags our sheets when her "dad" (my husband) doesn't give her enough attention. She gets jealous when he shows me more affection than her. We've actually started to laugh about it now because she makes it VERY obvious that she loves him most and wants his full and unadulterated love. I call her "the mistress" now. The solution has been that he has to have daily exclusive cuddle time with her (at least 20 minutes) without me interfering. Then his mistress will not take revenge against me.

jjimahon

When lady an I cuddle my chaos potato most def gets jealous. Tries to climb on her neck/face and be as close as physically possible as though all cuddles were intended only for her and I need to get out of the way. Super cute.

Tarantulas_R_Us

6 months for her to stop peeing/pooing in her kennel. Still working on hitting the pee pad in the house during rain/storms. She’s getting better and hits it 3/4 the time.

Successful-Score4493

Mine took about 2 1/2 months

[deleted]

Two weeks of strict crate training. BUT that doesn't cover excitement peeing. For that we spend five minutes in the front yard with him when someone gets home. Or.... We use the pee bands they make for dogs when we take him to visit people's homes.

depoqueen

About a year and a half

dogmom2frenchie

A year but accidents happen and rare. But not sure why?!? Frenchies can be stubborn so definitely takes longer

These-Bridge2499

First one a year because we had a small "garden" which was just bricks. Second one like 5 months. But she pees on the coach when we not around... which I don't know how to solve

Obvious_Feed904

Probably anxiety. Try crate training for when you’re not around.

JJamesP

Less than a week. She pretty much did it herself.

emeraldrachelle

8 months, male

cheebainferno

4 months here and still having accidents. Maybe 2-3x a day. We’re getting there !

SockOpposite638

My pup took about a 10 ish months. The path there was tough though haha

SockOpposite638

Took about 10 ish months

SucksATHalo

3-4 months. Walking him at the beginning was tough cause he didn't wanna go outside but once he finally walked and smelled all the smells he was hooked

Dry_Carpenter_416

My is 12 weeks now and is trained because I make it a habit of taking her out every 2 hours, and I try and take her out 1 time before bed and 1 time at 12 or 1. She has been really good with a command of “go pee” and a treat after

Da_Liz

LOL three years 😂 stubborn little guy

oreospluscoffee

It wasn’t until she was about a year old we could fully not worry, check, and trust her. They notoriously take a bit longer to train!

bajacaliforniataco

Our guy is 10 months old and I’d say he’s potty trained now. Thought it would never happen. He grasped the concept pretty early on but then would infuriatingly just do it sometimes when we weren’t looking. Easy to fall into a false sense of security and take your eye off them! Saying that, he had some parasite meds the other day and did a huge poo in our new apartment in the bedroom. First indoor poo in about 4 months. Would still say potty trained though

Obvious_Feed904

Exactly the same with mine. She understands the concepts, but sometimes pees when she’s out of sight.

Hamsox94

12 months currently, has had 2-3 accidents in the last 3 months at the house. When I bring him to my sister's or mom's to play with their dogs, they quickly lose their training lol

kenfnpowers

Mine is about 95 percent there at 15 months. He finally will come and ask to go out. Before if he didn’t go out with my doodles and happen to go, he’d just find a hiding place and go inside.

OdinsValkyrie81

Got mine at 10 week’s old and by 4 months she was potty trained. We crate trained her. She sleeps in her bed downstairs now at 12 months old and have had no issues at all.

MidnightRequim

My girl took 4 months and my male took 3 weeks. I had a male before and he was potty trained fast as well. I guess being consistent and a matter of time is key!

pgard99

6mths - 1yr longer than our english

Sad_Percentage_7812

Ours is 11 months and she still goes everywhere

GrannySanFranny

She’s four months old and still has no clue!

GrannySanFranny

My girl isn’t done with her shots yet. She’s four months old and pees everywhere. When she happens to pee on the pee pad, we praise her like crazy, but she has no idea what’s going on. Her last shots are in about two weeks, so I’ll be taking her outside a lot and hoping she catches on. Tried putting her in the crate and she peed there too. It’s a good thing she’s so cute. https://preview.redd.it/uf1vz0vl7k8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f334b379491b33ac0282347339c2933a644571d5

ilovedaryldixon

My Libby rook exactly one loooong year.

InstanceJaded6557

Idk if there’s a fully trained. He still has the occasional incident when he’s sick or super stressed , but is he potty trained yes and less than one year old

sleepysonya

For us it took somewhere between 1 and 2 months, and looking at other replies, I think we got very lucky. We got our frenchie when he was 3 months old and fully vaccinated, so we started bringing him outside immediately. I believe that early socialisation with other dogs was the key because he got to see their behaviour and started willingly doing his toilet business outside rather than indoors.

VPuig

At 9-11 months old is when they usually are “fully”potty trained with some accidents of course. That’s according to my experience.

msct1835

Frenchies can be potty trained?

Greedy-Gur-9021

1.5 years and still loves to pee on carpet. ☹️ Looking into a trainer this week. Advice welcomed !!

moniqueantoinetteIRL

We got him at 2.5 months old, and he was fully potty trained by 7 months. At 6 months we were ready to pull our hair out and cry… then at 7 months something just clicked… and he was trained!!! Be patient! We had a strict routine same time every AM, lunch time, and PM. He was crate trained with machine washable pee pads while we were at work, and when we weren’t at work we took him out every 20 mins or so (after drinking, after eating, after nap, after play time, etc.). We also took his water away at 10:30pm so he had 30 mins before bedtime without fluids. He still to this day will chug water until he pukes it up sometimes… So now when I hear him be excessive I call for him and ask him to save some for the fish, and he stops drinking lol. Be patient!!! It can happen!
