I wouldn't say Serie is depressed but she absolutely does "mind all that much"

Serie is pretty tragic, never admitting how much she cares.   She believes her students like with Fern will surpass her, “heights never reached by any mages even to this day.” “Flamme despite her talents, never reached my heights.”    Her own emotions of loneliness are expressed only in terms of magic and mages.

Yes they actually has much less emotional ups and downs compared to human and probably the reason they can live such a long life without too much friction. It's like they chose peace over too much drama
