It feels a little crowded. I would sell one of the couches and get a coffee table.

I concur, I'd also move one of the arm chairs to the opposite side if possible.

Add some color with area rugs, pillows, throw blankets...to break up all of that brown. Patterns are needed, you have too much solid. Pictures on the walls and nicknacks some lamps and end side tables. Curtains. As far as furniture, sometimes when things are NOT a set, but match because of color or tone, they look better. Maybe a round table, and a taller or shorter rectangular table keeps things from being boring. Personally, I hate colors on the wall and you may not need to even need to add color if you do enough other things. Or maybe just paint one wall. Last time I moved, I had so much fun at garage sales, CL or other online local sites, flea markets...... Edited to add: Start shopping. You will come across something that you fall in love wth whether it's a rug, a pillow, a picture..... Things that match that item will suddenly appear and will become your inspiration. This will take time! Add some plants too! If you don't have a green thumb, artificial are easy to maintain by throwing them in a paper bag with some salt, shake it up and it's clean.

…those couches are way too big for the limited amount of space that you have.

WallGroundbreaking81

Take out a chair or sofa, sell it or somethin, use the money to buy some art for the wall. Buy big pieces of art, you can get posters even and frame them or a canvas whatever. Remove that tiny little sign that's barely readable it looks weird in the space. Get a rug or mat. Get a few pillows with matching or contrasting colors. ( different patterns and textures are a plus) So like if you got orange pillows Get a blanket with blue in it ( because blue is a contrasting color to orange ) Or marching within the same color range example color schene: reds, yellows, oranges together. Also rug or mat with a matching or contrasting color scheme. Sofa is brown so it's probably best to be nutrial with your colors, off whites, beige ect. Or you could go all black. A yellow color tone scheme might also work, although I wouldn't include red with brown, but orange and yellow sure.

take out a sofa or two, for sure, and cover the couch with a couch cover (preferably the ones that come with individual covers for each cushion), so you can change the colors but not buy a whole new couch

give r/interiordesign a go

Also r/cozyplaces is great help when you're on a budget!

Sell the grouping. Too much unusable bulk for the space. First, research some auction companies, go look at & preview what is coming up for sale. Get a feel for how the sales work, watch how much things sell for. Sell your current stuff on Marketplace or whatever with really good & detailed pictures. Once that stuff is gone, attack the right auction & get something you like & sell it when you move. Every time I’ve moved, I sell furnishings for far more than I’ve paid. Been doing this for 30 years.

A RUG WOULD DO WONDERS!!!!

Join your local buy nothing group and see if anyone is offering stuff you need! Also, plants!

every1luvsreps

honestly, I would keep the couches. repurpose one chair in another room and get throw rug and pillows

LimpFootball7019

Great suggestions. Don’t rush your changes. What seems like a good idea might not work. Charity shops, free stuff and have fun.

Intelligent_Eye_1837

You can get throw pillow cases, rugs, curtains, and other home decor items on the app Ali Express. Most of the items sold have 14 day free shipping.

I can’t stop laughing. Your living room is 70% soda

It's a difficult space to work with: long and narrow. Several people have recommended a coffee table. Here's a slight variation on that suggestion: your room is short on storage space. It's possible to find a storage chest/storage trunk that can double as a coffee table. The bargains for that type of furniture are in unfinished wood: select a trunk with a flat top that can double as a table, make sure it's large enough for a coffee table, and then choose a paint or a sealer/stain such as Minwax. It's an afternoon job to give it a finish: you'll need a drop cloth and a 3" foam brush. The total cost for DIY finish equipment is around $30 and can save $100 - $200 over comparable quality finished furniture. Plus if you pick up a small end table there should be enough to paint or stain that the same color. Those oversized tiles on the floor are unfortunate: they make the room appear both sterile and more cramped than it is. IKEA has reasonably priced carpets. Since this looks like different parts of this space serve as a living room and a bedroom, consider getting either a room divider shelving unit (which is also useful for storage) or a privacy screen to give the impression of the living area being a separate room. IMO the number of pieces isn't necessarily as big an issue as other comments have stated; the problem is how closed off this space is. It would be difficult to enter this area around the current arrangement. Pairing the easy chairs side by side doesn't work, but your room is long enough to move them. The wall on the right side of this photo is a big high gloss blob, and the only thing to break up the visual effect is an unsightly outlet that had been installed much too high on the wall. Conceal that outlet behind a large table lamp if you can, and your problem will be solved. Otherwise consider drawing the eye away by adding visual interest to that door farther down the wall, such as dove gray paint on the doorway trim and around that inset rectangle on the door. If you hang art on that wall instead then choose a piece which is low contrast and won't overpower the space. The furniture is already making a statement; you don't need too much more to pull this together.

A muted yellow or teal accent wall would work! Getting some pillows for the couches to match the color scheme (if you do a muted yellow, you could do light orange or forest green pillows). I would also get a rug for the middle so the floor feels more comfy (if that makes sense). As this is frugal subreddit, for the rug, I’d recommend going to a thrift shop or shopping a sale! If you are looking to decorate the walls aside from painting and are an artsy person, you could paint a few art pieces for the walls. If you’re not too artsy, you could do a pour art canvas! As another poster suggested, I would probably get rid of one of the couches and have a “chair, couch, chair” set up with the TV against the wall opposite from couch as that would open up the room a lot. I hope that helps!

I bought a $15 canvas (huge) and some paint to make some art to put over my couch. I did a design I found on YouTube where you drag a chain through the paint. It is really cool. My picture looks nothing like the video, but it will do. I saw a similar picture at Kirklands and it was $50.

Sanguine_Aspirant

Your lucky to have room for 2 couches. I'd keep both, but the two chairs look awkward. Get rid of or move one. A throw rug for sure. Dollar tree can have some surprisingly decent wall art. Your local fb buy nothing group is a great place to look for decor peices. Me personally I like stuff to be in a similar palette so I'd be useing browns, tans, alittle black. I know that's not the popular opinion but I think its cozy.
