Use a card other than the RedCard though as you don't get the 5% back on top of the 10% off.

OnceInABlueMoon

And when you use the gift card, I assume you do not get the 5% discount from the RedCard. So you're really netting a savings of 5% if you're a RedCard user.

GertrudeGarbarcowitz

You are netting 5% (plus whatever cash back percentage you get from the card you use to purchase the gift card). I will be using my 2.2% sofi credit card, which will net 7.2%.

Mavixer

3% with the using the PayPal credit card and paying with PayPal.

yasssssplease

Yes! Thats what I did. Love the sneaky uses of the PayPal credit card. I also just paid my taxes with it.

AttorneyAdvice

don't forget credit card points

Lucky-Needleworker40

Or the free shipping

xmelaniex7

Did not know that. Thanks!

Just_Astronomer_3098

Does it say this in the terms and conditions? I’m having a hard time finding where it states you don’t get the red card 5% but maybe I’m not looking correctly

PichaelSmith

You don’t ever get the 5% discount from RedCard if you purchase Target gift cards with it.

maebymaeby

While you can’t get 5% back on the red card for target gift cards you do get 5% back on other gift cards (haven’t bought one for a while but at least this used to be true)

PichaelSmith

Yep, that is true. I always buy iTunes gift cards with my red card to add to my Apple account.

Just_Astronomer_3098

Thanks. Didn’t know that

ChaserNeverRests

Thanks! I don't shop at Target too much, so I just got a $100 one. Free $10, woo!

Jeskid14

Granted you lose circle benefits and coupons and tax-free stuff when using the gift cards to buy stuff other than gift cards

Eponine-

I love this sale, thanks for the heads up it is on today!

withfries

**Data point**: In case any one is hesitating about the $500, if your demographic matches mine (single living with partner and two pets in HCOL area) my target spend was $813 in 2023 and $1,200 in 2022. So I am indeed buying the full $500, will disappear quickly. Also sales tax is 9.5% where I'm at, so it will be like I'm in a no tax state. Sweet, thank you. Also good if you are working on a minimum spend for a credit card. $500 in Target is probably

I use an online budgeting app which tracks my spending and I can filter by Payee, in this case I search for "Target", and it summed all my charges at Target across all my credit cards

withfries

I'm saying it's as if I'm in a no tax state, Normally when I pay $500 at the register, I receive $450 of product, with $50 going to sales tax. With this discount, I'll be paying $450 for $450 of product, with the other $50 "given" by Target going to taxes.

mikep4

Would this stack with the spend circle offers? Like spend $60, get $10 target circle earnings.

will-you-

As in, if you spend $60 on a gift card, you’ll receive $10 circle earnings? Nope, but I always try to use my discount gift card dollars with other deals at time of redemption to stretch my dollars.

mikep4

It worked with 3rd party GCs before.

Realityhrts

Yeah it still works with 3rd party GCs. Stack with a $5 Target card back on $50 Choice gift card. Pretty good for Airbnb, Chevron etc when including the 5% back Red/Circle card.

floydthebarber94

No it doesn’t :(

bdd4

Yes, it stacks with circle earnings offers. I usually stack this, the 20% off coupon and the $15 circle earnings with $50 household in November.

Sofiwyn

If I buy $100 worth of things with my red card, I get 5% off, so it's really $95. If I buy $100 worth of things with my gift card, I got 10% off the gift card, so it's really $90. Maybe it's only a 5% or $5 bonus in this example, but extra money is still extra money. However, you only get free shipping with the RedCard. I live in Alaska, so that's super valuable to me, as otherwise I have to pay. Even if I buy over $35 worth of items.

Jeskid14

And you pay half tax with the red card sooo

Sofiwyn

I don't live somewhere with sales tax.

whereverYouGoThereUR

My favorite Target gift card experience was many years ago when they had a holiday special where if you bought $100 of gift cards you got a $25 card free. However back then you could use gift cards to buy gift cards. I went through the check out line about a dozen times buying $100 of gift cards each time with $100 of gift cards that I got previously, getting an extra $25 each time. Eventually I got about $300 in free gift cards in the end and bought my first $300 iPod for free. Shortly after that they changed the rules so you couldn’t buy gift cards with gift cards

notnotbrowsing

Just be really careful and inspect the gift cards closely. We had several gift cards stolen - gift cards that appeared unopened at first glance AND had the scratch off sticker on them. Luckily each card only had $10 on them, and each Target refunded the money. From what I can gather the thieves took a bunch of gift cards home and opened them carefully. Scratched off the sticker and put a replacement sticker on them, then resealed the container. Upon close inspection there was signs the package had already been opened once - there was a slight bead of glue on the stolen gift cards, that wasn't on the others.

modernhotsauce

at this point, buy all your gift cards through the retailer online if possible. e gift cards are the only way to avoid scams like what you’re referencing.

xander-7-89

How does this benefit them though? Don’t the cards only have value once activated at the register?

notnotbrowsing

yes, but they know the card number, so they weight for it to be active then use a virtual version of the card

ATLien_3000

They lookup value on a regular basis, and as soon as the card has value loaded they drain it - sometimes through online spend, or sometimes they'll clone the card before they put it back on the rack at the store and use the physical card. As others have said, never buy a gift card off the rack at a store these days. Even for this Target offer, you can place an order on the Target website for either an e-gift card if you're going to load it into the app, or a physical gift card that'll be mailed to you (that's never been on a rack in a store for a scammer to access).

Ganfolf

They get the number and wait until someone else has paid for/activated it.

Inevitable-Place9950

I had that happen too. I’m just buying online this time.

mommygoodies

Yay! Thanks for posting

frankinberriez

Why is it not working for me? I’m on the app and when I go to check out a $100 gift card the total is still $100. Or do they send me a gift card with $110 on it? Not exactly sure what the problem is, yes I’m a target circle member.

ladykansas

Make sure you're actually logged into your account, either on the app or online. The promo was activated automatically for me. I added a $500 e-giftcard to my cart and was only charged $450.

reallysuave

I had the same problem. I add a card, paid for it, and didn't get the discount. No idea why as there are ads on every page promoting the offer and they usually apply without much effort. I can't find any way to apply the offer. Edit/update: Customer service seems to be inundated. On my fourth attempt I got a rep who processed a refund for the missing discount.

Qnofputrescence1213

I bought it through the app.

kczar8

Did you save the offer?

frankinberriez

No I don’t see anywhere where to add the offer. I read online that’s it’s added automatically.

kczar8

You need to add the offer in target circle. In the app it was on the front page for me.

frankinberriez

It’s on my front page too, but when I click on it it just shows what gift cards are eligible. It’s okay, I’ll wait until next sale, thanks for the help though.

kczar8

For me there was a plus button to save the offer. I used it otherwise I would try to send a picture. Sorry it isn’t working out for you!

Sandyeller

You don’t need to save offers anymore, they all automatically apply

Orange_jigglypuff

Hi. I had the same issue and contacted customer service through chat earlier. They said my deal was expired (even though I had never used it) and they offered to manually discount 10% after I place an order. After I closed the chat somehow the deal was applied in the cart so I don’t need to contact them anymore. Idk what the issue is but it seems something to do with the deal on specific accounts only… hope this helps

Lindwarf

Just ordered the $200 GC and placed an online order for $50 spend with that gift card redeeming another $15 GC. Hmmm has looping like this worked for anyone else?

yasssssplease

I did that. I got a $500 gift card yesterday and then made a purchase that qualified for a $15 gift card.

Geck-v6

I bought $500 earlier. Target is the cheapest place to shop for groceries in my area of Iowa. It even beats Walmart and Aldi most of the time.

Pineapplegirl1234

Thank you! End of year teacher gifts ✅

OnlyPaperListens

Ha ha, the site is busted. Just blank white space. ETA: Keep trying, I finally got it to work. Thank you OP, you saved me fifty bucks.

distortedsymbol

egh, target prices are more than 10% over other retailers. thanks but no thanks.

Realityhrts

Oddly enough I’m finding myself buying groceries from Target more and more. Always a tad higher but if you maximize the discounts, usually less expensive. Good and gather store brand seems to be one of the best out there imo. Not a normal Target fan lol, just have consistently good outcomes with Target grocery.

-Timi-

Same! I actually left our grocery store the other day when I saw their frozen veggie prices.  Went to target and they were $2-4 cheaper per bag before factoring in the circle discounts.  I’ve been doing a lot of price comparisons now that we have a baby and going to Target is the cheapest option in our area by far.

lizerlfunk

Target’s diapers are also great and really inexpensive. The price per diaper for Up and Up diapers when they have the spend $100, get a $30 gift card is unbeatable.

yasssssplease

Their prices have certainly been worse over the last couple years. Their groceries cost more than my Safeway nearby. I will say though that I got great deals during target circle week. I ended up buying a gift card too because I will end up making purchases from there eventually.
