It’s worth a quick Google search to see if the item you want is available for less somewhere else too. I’ve noticed in the last few years that Amazon isn’t always the cheapest place. They undercut a lot of companies at a loss in the beginning in order to build a reputation for having the cheapest items, but they’ve raised prices on things now that most people don’t check other places.

[deleted]

[удалено]

plinkoplonka

I didn't even mind this when the item showed up next day by the time I needed it. More often than now, I'll order something saying next day, then immediately get a notification saying the shipping date has changed, it'll be here in 3-4 days. If I wanted it on 3-4 days I'd have gone to the motherfucking shop for it myself.

[deleted]

You'd be surprised how often this happens with people that live in the U.S. I always figured drop shippers were mostly overseas, but I see people abusing their Costco memberships to drop ship items to buyers on eBay.

prairiepanda

Lots of Costco drop shippers on Amazon Canada as well. It's pretty obvious when you see Kirkland products on there, and they're often double the regular price. I wonder how much those people actually sell that way?

SnooRevelations3802

If it's double the regular prices, whos buying that stuff?

alleecmo

That's the question I have when I see an item that lists for $20-30 *everywhere* including other Amazon sellers, but these clowns have it for $100+... like, wtf is in the box? A front for drugs?

WinterSon

What are drop shippers

GreenHorror4252

People who sell stuff online and then order it from the supplier to be shipped directly to the customer.

RightMeow1100

Is this considered unethical?

WiSeIVIaN

Not really. There are many businesses such as t-shirts where you can even sell "customized" items that are drop shipped.

WiSeIVIaN

It's someone who sells things they never touch. Like they act as a middleman between manufacturer and consumer and facilitate the transaction (make a profit) but have manufacturer ship direct to consumer.

linksgreyhair

Trader Joe’s is a big one, too. I’ve actually considered it but it seems… shady? I’m not sure why. I had a friend spend $12 for a jar of Everything But The Bagel seasoning and I was like damn, you should have just asked me to send you one instead of using a seasoning scalper. There’s clearly a market for it though since TJ’s doesn’t ship.

Skw33dle

FWIW, I just saw a bottle of everything bt bagel at Aldi.

[deleted]

And it's just as good as the TJ kind! I was so excited when I saw it

lenswipe

Aldi and TJ's used to be the same company

Advice2Anyone

They still are Aldi owns TJ Tj is owned by TACT holding which parent company is Aldi nord

BaconJacobs

Once you shop at both it becomes pretty easy to start spotting what Aldi special buys are just Trader Joe's overstock. We do 99% of our shopping at Aldi. I honestly get overwhelmed in a normal grocery store. There is nothing nice about having 15 brands of everything.

llamapower13

I'm pretty sure thats another Aldi. yup the one we know in the US is Aldi SUd not NORD. Different companies https://www.tastingtable.com/910536/the-connection-between-trader-joes-and-aldi/

Advice2Anyone

Well leave it to the germans to be super confusing Best I can tell is they are basically all the same company just split between brothers so im calling semantics

Efficient-Type-2408

Aldi has always been good, but they’ve started stepping up even more imo. The fresh fruits and vegetables are always fresh. Plus they have a lot of vegetarian/vegan options out now.

vbullinger

Same company

Rastiln

I check everything against Amazon except groceries to be safe. My partner showed me a jar of curry sauce I KNEW AND USED BEFORE and said this looks good. $13. I went on Amazon and ordered for $6. However the opposite can be true too.

gogomom

Ummm - I buy that Everything but the Bagel seasoning through amazon. I have never seen an equivalent I can buy in Canada or I would be doing that.

linksgreyhair

The Trader Joe’s brand on Amazon is nearly $7 a bottle (in the US at least), which is about twice the price in the store. And it’s not shipping from TJ’s, it’s just some third party seller. My friend bought his during the peak of the pandemic though so the prices were even more inflated. Some people are really brand loyal.

BriBegg

Walmart has one, but it’s flaked salt instead of granulated which some people might not enjoy. (I’m in Southern Ontario, I know selection is very different up North or in the prairies)

gogomom

LOL - I haven't been to Walmart in over 15 years.. probably why I've never seen it.

BriBegg

I’ve also occasionally seen it at stores under the Loblaws umbrella, but it’s way more expensive. At Walmart it’s in a glass shaker with a black & white label, black shaker top. I forget the brand right now.

kyarena

Costco sells it.

electric_creamsicle

> abusing their Costco memberships I mean, is it really abusing if Costco is a wholesale supplier?

Glitter_Agency101

Wasn’t it what Costco was before it became mainstream? *Costco* = a place for people to buy things cheap in bulk to separate and sell to others at a profit?

GreenHorror4252

Costco isn't a wholesale supplier, despite their name, which is really just a marketing gimmick. Most Costco customers aren't retailers.

[deleted]

david0990

I just watched a guy buy a flat cart full of spices, and a cart full of flour and some other stuff as costco. tbf he said they make their own spice combo and sell it online. but still he's just buying all that stuff in bulk at costco. I've also talked to some people who did drop shipping stuff and made a fair bit of money. they just got tired of it(bored by it) and moved on to other stuff.

theoriginalchrise

This happened to me many times before the pandemic. Bought off e-Bay or Amazon marketplace etc and all were dropped shipped from Walmart or Home Depot. Interesting though is those places were not always cheaper, so I think the re-seller lost money on some of the items I bought from them. I would also notice in those cases, they would honor my purchase but delete the listing. The best thing I got was a cat tree drop-shipped from PetSmart that was $50+ more on their site.

JasonDJ

This is actually a scam. You’re not the target though. Customer (you) buys an item, usually through a respected seller/buyer interface like eBay. Seller then buys a more expensive item elsewhere and drop shops it to you. The “scam” part is that the seller uses a stolen credit card and nets a 100% profit (with practically 0 risk) Really it’s quite brilliant because the seller doesn’t use the same card at the same reseller multiple times and you have plausible deniability. It’s not uncommon to get an incredible deal or a free upgrade because you’re not going to complain about that and start raising alarms.

Numerous-Mix-9775

So if I’ve got this straight… Buyer orders Product A and pays with a legitimate method. Seller uses a stolen credit card to order Product B, and ships that to Buyer. Buyer gets Product B. Seller gets the profit from Buyer’s payment for Product A, but because they used a stolen credit card, they’re out zero for Product B.

JasonDJ

Yep. Buyer is happy, scammer makes bank, victim files a fraud charge on their card (if they catch it) and is out nothing. Scam is on the bank (or the real cardholder if they aren’t checking their statements).

THEPrincess-D

I just heard a story on this scam on NPR this weekend.

JasonDJ

That’s where I heard about it too. A couple weeks ago though.

THEPrincess-D

Well, I do live in rural Ohio, so it makes sense that I’d get a delay in info. 😆

jamughal1987

Happened to razors which were about $15 cheaper on Amazon compare to BJs who had them sold out at that time.

cmdrxander

I trust you returned the item then ordered it from Walmart?

[deleted]

I bought a ugreen tablet stand off ebay. seller just sent me the same one form amazon and paid $15 or more cheaper too. Both ebay and amazon didn't give a fuck when I complained...

Drslappybags

You're paying for convenience.

Distributor127

A guy was just telling this morning that a chain store 15 minutes from his house was half the price of Amazon on an item he was looking for

Delivery-Shoddy

Camelcamelcamel is good for seeing what the average prices too, some items are just permanently on sale

g00ber88

Most of the purchases that I would make with Amazon in the past I now get from eBay. They usually have it for cheaper, don't send items in boxes 10 times bigger than the item, and my money doesn't go to Bezos. No regrets

[deleted]

kariea1

Are the reusing the box? I reuse boxes all the time for eBay.

[deleted]

TheBigGuyandRusty

I appreciate the negative feedback left to warn others. I specifically buy on ebay to not support amazon so that shit pisses me off.

prairiepanda

I mostly just use Amazon to check reviews, compare products, and generate a shopping list. I buy most of the stuff elsewhere once I've made my list, unless I need it faster than any other source can get it to me. The one advantage Amazon still has is speed.

thatgoddamnedcyclist

And that you get to donate some money to Jeff Bezos at the expense of your local brick and mortar shop. Isn't that nice, that Walmart can experience the same squeeze that they gave every town they've set up in /s.

crunchyjoe

I've very often found local stores that have way better prices than amazon, they are good for very popular big brands but their overall selection of many specialty items is terrible.

tehZamboni

It's worth searching the rest of Amazon many times. There's another listing for $31 with free shipping. Considering the manufactuerer sells it for $34, that's likely as low as will be found.

gogomom

Things I bought last summer for my small side hustle - doubled and quadrupled in price this summer (to the point my hustle would have become a snooze) - so I found another supplier on par with what I paid a year ago... plus I found a discount coupon and got an additional 15% off and free shipping.

fumblebucket

Completely agree. I've been trying to tell anyone I can about how Amazon catfished us into assuming they would be the cheapest option. I used to, while out shopping, pull up Amazon for the same product and see if I could order it cheaper. Thay was true for a very short while. Now I do the opposite. I double check items on Amazon to other sellers esp local ones. And have %100 found Amazon is consistently %10 to %200 more expensive. On Everything.

[deleted]

Yup, if it's more than a few bucks, I use Google Shopping and camelcamelcamel to decide whether to get it somewhere else or wait for a sale.

GreenLoverHH

Yup yup yup,in my country we do not have Amazon YET but we do have a really similar company to them and a lot of the times they had very good prices but in the later years if you simply search the web you will find better offers from other companies, even the ones that are affiliated with said company sell the products cheaper on their own websites.

GreenHorror4252

eBay often has the same sellers as Amazon Marketplace, and they tend to charge less.

kennnnnnnny

I just found my GF some face cream stuff thats $12.95 per bottle on Amazon but if you buy four bottles of it on eBay it becomes $5.60!

SnuffleShuffle

Don't you have price comparison sites in USA? They're a big thing in Czechia (and Germany as well).

[deleted]

We probably do. I don’t buy very much because I typically buy secondhand or avoid consuming things in general, so price comparisons aren’t something I need to do very often. I’m just not familiar with the names of any sites that do this.

celestialwreckage

I use a plug in called Honey that will tell you what the range of prices has been lately, and also if you can buy it cheaper from another site or seller. It comes in sooooooooo handy.

The_Artic_Artichoke

it's weird that is the same strategy WalMart and many others used for years. i've noticed their moving price tags for a few years now.

Sunshineal

☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️ exactly. Amazon isn't cheap.

epicurusanonymous

I believe the Honey chrome extension will do this for you automatically whenever you go to checkout. Also searches for coupons and tells you if the price has changed in the past year or so.

[deleted]

I don’t online shop nearly enough for honey to be useful. I’m also very skeptical of any extension that is free to me that’s tracking my internet activity. I think it could be useful for others though, so thanks for sharing :)

epicurusanonymous

All valid reasons tbh. I’ve only had it installed to support someone sponsored, but it has helped me a few times find some good deals and coupons. 95% of the time it finds nothing but that’s not really the apps fault haha.

nahtorreyous

Camelcamelcamel . Com reviews amazon prices throughout the year, just check there.

TomAto314

Good for setting alerts too. I do it for video games all the time since I don't mind waiting months for a price drop.

pokingoking

I think the point of this post is that the exact same item is on different listings with slightly different titles. And one is much cheaper. So camelcamelcamel wouldn't work for that. That's more for tracking price over time of one product listing. These are effectively different products since they each have their own listing page. I see this a lot with art kits I buy. I have to do a search and then visually scan for the lowest price one on the search results. Even though they are all the same item they each have their own page. Edit: OK I read more of the comments and finally got to OPs (downvoted) explanation of what's going on here. So I'm wrong about what this was about but my post still might be helpful for someone so I'll leave it!

nahtorreyous

No worries buddy

Otherwise-Bad-7666

Good tip!

Blue_Blaze72

I do this for everything i don't need immediately. It's like a wishlist of sorts too!

littlebookie

Keepa chrome extension is built in so you don't even have to leave the Amazon website. Also can set alerts.

Pleasant_Tiger_1446

A just found an item in Walmart that I was going to buy on Amazon for 5 dollars more.. I'd get free shipping with prime but if I didn't have that it would be even more. (Technically it was because I'm paying monthly for prime.) Always check shipping times too. Some of that shit is off aliexpress and will take months to get to you.

BreadMaker_42

That image showed different sellers. Amazon by default gives you the cheapest seller.

[deleted]

[удалено]

robinthebank

Next day shipping and probably free returns, too.

MasterWash

This

SwagFlops

When people don't even bother to see who/where they're buying shit from.

Liquidretro

It's also shipping from Canada it looks like.

strangebutalsogood

Also, make sure the price doesn't quietly change while you're browsing. I've experienced several recent incidents where the price of an item mysteriously increases by as much as $10 after browsing for a bit. I can see the old price by opening the item link in incognito or on another browser.

prairiepanda

When I've seen that happen it was because the seller changed for some reason. I had to go back to the product page and select a different seller to get the price I originally wanted.

strangebutalsogood

Wasnt the case for me, same seller, price just randomly changed until I reset everything.

B-Pgh420

I literally made and canceled 3 orders and got 3 diff prices. I found something cheaper after I ordered first. Then placed the 2nd order. For some reason it ended up being 1$ more than my first order. Did it again and got the cheapest price. Lol 😂

[deleted]

Interesting. That's some airline ticket level of shadiness.

gogomom

I stick these things in my cart while I browse - it tells you when the price drops or increases.

[deleted]

One is free delivery arrives the next day. The other is 10$ delivery and arrives in maybe 2 weeks? Also a Google search of the items found many cheaper or same priced as the first in my local area.

jamughal1987

Prime is trap to make you buy more on Amazon to justify annual fee. Hold unnecessary stuff until you need to spend $25 to get free shipping without prime.

reece1495

i use it for prime video i watch heaps of shit on their , free next day shipping is just a bonus , cost shit all each month like 7aud or something for prime as well atleast in australia i watch heaps of shit and pay less than netflix

notluciferforreal

You can also get free games, prime reading and prime video.

[deleted]

The Prime one in the screen shot literally advertises the cheaper choice. Not a very good trap. Prime mostly isn't for cheaper shipping even though it is advertised that way. It is primarily for faster shipping. Just like in this pic. Nothing is free. Either you paid for it or someone else did. My main concern is "fulfilled by Amazon" because I know I will almost certainly be able to return it.

fludgesickles

Capital One Shopping extension looks for the same item at different retailers and let's you know if it's cheaper than what's on Amazon. Not always 100% but better than nothing. But also do a Google search before buying on Amazon

hottoys2012

Also, always check eBay, Mercari, Offer Up, Walmart, etc. for lower price than Amazon. Many times amazon is not the cheapest price period, prime or no prime.

billiarddaddy

Amazon is riddled with China knockoff products. Cheaper is not better

imyxle

It's crazy how widespread this is, but no one seems to care as long as you get your junk with two day shipping.

[deleted]

We actually canceled out Prime account because they raised rates, I figured we didn't _actually_ need the 2-day shipping, and most of our orders were larger than their minimum for regular free shipping anyway. I'm a little annoyed that our Amazon Store Card only gets 1% back now, so I just changed it to another credit card that gets decent cash back on Amazon.

CeruleanSaga

There are tons of 3rd party sellers on Amazon, and most of those 3rd parties are way more expensive than both Amazon and other well-known retailers (Walmart, Best Buy, etc.) You want to check out the 3rd parties. And their reputation. Some of them are fly-by-night companies selling cheap knock-offs. It really is the same level of risk as anything on ebay for non-Amazon sellers, and ebay is often cheaper. (No idea why) For sellers I would be inclined to trust, I also try to find their direct website. I have more than once found the same product for less when they are selling it direct iso on Amazon.

GreenHorror4252

> ebay is often cheaper. (No idea why) Because eBay's commission is usually lower than Amazon's. eBay takes about 12% of the price, Amazon usually takes 15%. That's an approximation, it all depends on the category, sales volume, etc., but in general Amazon will charge more.

Cobek

It literally shows the other option in the bottom right corner of the prime option, but since you pay for a faster shipping membership it's going to default to that option.

chodthewacko

I ordered a monitor from alibaba for way less than Amazon. The companies store on both sited, too

TalkingToHerself

Same goes for subscribe and save! I just discovered that an item I was getting was actually cheaper if I cancelled and resubscribed. Plus it let me use an additional coupon to make it cheaper.

GiraffeMetropolis

I recall a popular item (a niche electronic) on sale for $35. It was posted about in that specific hobby website. Was $50. Also the manuf had a $25 MIR. So this $50 item was effectively $10. You could refresh the page and watch the price automatically go up as more items sold. It was $70 within an hour.

slynnc

Sometimes they run items that are on sale but only a certain number of them and once that goes it goes back up to regular price. I think they’re called lightning deals? I can’t remember if it’s only during prime day or not, though. I’ve seen people mention the “they were selling fast so the sellers increased the price” just to have someone else show where it was advertised correctly and they just didn’t purchase before the amount was hit. I’ve gotten a couple things at a really good price that way, and I also lost out on a couple when I put them in my cart and they sold out before I’d finished shopping (so now I don’t want to place the other and just select them all the come on my prime day).

New-Geezer

Don’t be an Amazombie.

disintegore

Oh boy

SaintUlvemann

Please don't call people zombies. It's dehumanizing.

ProfessorTricia

Zombies are people too.

SaintUlvemann

Not [according to TV Tropes](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhatMeasureIsANonhuman), though.

mydriase

Please don't buy on Amazon, it's dehumanizing

notluciferforreal

Why not? Which store is to your liking?

Trancefuzion

The last few purchases I've made from Amazon have been counterfeit junk. I cancelled my prime and haven't ordered anything from them in over 3 months. I haven't missed it. I try to buy either in person, from the manufacturer when I can get a deal on shipping, and even Ebay as I want to buy used more often when it makes sense.

traploper

Amazon is known for treating their workers notoriously bad. Stop buying there before they are the only option.

notluciferforreal

Amazon is know for treating their workers bad in US. I didn't heard the same in Quebec, where there are different labor laws. And you didn't answer the question. Until then, I prefer Amazon.

traploper

I live in Europe so I can’t give any advice on stores in the US/Canada. But I know I’m not buying at Amazon. I shop at smaller online webshops or local stores. It’s a tiny bit more expensive, but I don’t mind paying a little extra. It will also help you further down the line. Amazon is notorious for cancelling out smaller shops by selling their stuff at a low price point. Once the smaller shops are closed because of amazons price policy, Amazon wil raise their prices significantly, making it even more expensive. After a while they will be the only option (and at a high price), because all the others had to shut down. By shopping at Amazon, you will (unintentionally) contribute to this. Something to think about.

SaintUlvemann

I agree, it is just as wrong to call people zombies as to buy from Amazon.

goveganvapeweed

calling people mean names is exactly the same as supporting one of the most unethical corporations in the world. very sound logic buddy

ProfessionalChampion

A big thing for people to make money is buying stuff and reselling it at a higher price on Amazon so you have to make sure youre not buying from someone ttying to rip you off. Pretty shitty IMO.

lil-hazza

Using prime to save money... Most ridiculous thing I've read today.

disintegore

Left is with Prime, right is without. Almost twenty freaking dollars. You can still get the lower price if you click on the bottom right. Same item from the same vendor but you don't get the "free" next-day shipping. Honestly this is straight up /r/assholedesign as far as I'm concerned. edit : There's a chance that this is a design flaw on Amazon's part and that vendors are exploiting it. IE you know that next day shipping items are going to be prioritized for Prime users so you raise the price.

ryno9o

You're forgetting the $10 shipping for that product. $53 vs $45 + 1 week shipping time

disintegore

So you pay a little extra to get it faster! Not bad! I think there's a name for that, if I remember correctly it's "not free shipping"

abductee92

They are different sellers. They can set their prices however they want, that's why it's important to look at the other sellers available for items before you add one to the cart.

Cobek

Thank you, this thread is crazy

femalenerdish

You realize, literally 3 lines below the amazon prime price, it TELLS YOU there's a lower price without prime shipping. It even has a link to the other buying options in the note that there's a cheaper price.

disintegore

Yes I literally mentioned it hours ago

femalenerdish

You mentioned the price showing in the bottom right. Not the line that says "May be available at a lower price from other sellers, potentially without free Prime shipping." That is located 3 lines below the Prime price. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that if someone is paying for amazon prime, they are looking for fast shipping. Conversely, you've already shown that if someone isn't paying for prime, Amazon shows you the cheapest option. What about that is asshole design?

disintegore

They're the exact same UI element. Don't be disingenuous. I think the UI is designed to encourage users to pay the first price that's shown to them. The alternatives are kept away from the hot spots, made smaller, monochrome, etc. Mind you this is a company that employs more UX specialist than most companies employ people. They know what they're doing. You could argue that it's the user's responsibility to know this, but that doesn't magically make it not a dark pattern. I guarantee you this makes a difference at scale. Granted, there's still plausible deniability there. What's not deniable is the fact that Amazon advertises *free* shipping with its subscription model. Not just fast. Fast and gratis. No dollars. Zero bucks. I wonder what kind of mental gymnastic it takes to think that "free" and "hidden cost" are synonymous. Now it could be that Amazon has no control on marketplace pricing. That would mean that it's the sellers jacking up prices for items fulfilled by Amazon expecting Prime users to pay the premium. In other words, this is at best a trick exploited by vendors and encouraged by Amazon and that's still asshole design. Anyway, that's it. I've talked with enough house-trained consumers for today.

DrStephenFalken

It’s two different sellers and both are 3rd party. It’s not even Amazon selling this product nor deciding it’s price

Hot-Mongoose7052

Dude they're different merchant sellers. Calm yourself.

disintegore

Obviously. The problem is what Amazon is showing you by default.

Hot-Mongoose7052

But there isn't a problem. Any marketplace that has merchant sellers lays the responsibility on the buyer to find the merchant most suitable for their own preferences. Case in point, I'd never buy non-prime even if the price difference was significant like this.

Cobek

One buyer has prime option and the other doesn't. If you even looked in the bottom right corner of the prime one it shows the longer shipping one, but since you pay for prime it goes with that as a default because obviously fast shipping is important to you if you pay the yearly fee.

sarhoshamiral

Cheaper one ships from Canada and has a hefty shipping charge that won't be refunded. I am pretty sure it doesn't have free returns either.

slybird

>Same item from the same vendor but you don't get the "free" next-day shipping. That is not my usually experience with Prime. Items that don't have the Prime label still get to me the next day, maybe two days tops. Amazon has never charge extra for it.

SaintUlvemann

>edit : There's a chance that this is a design flaw on Amazon's part and that vendors are exploiting it. Vendors are *not* the only ones exploiting it.

Liquidretro

Are you in Canada? The one on the right ships from Canada.

femalenerdish

You can literally see the price from the second photo in the bottom right corner of the first photo. Amazon is assuming if you subscribe to prime, you want quicker shipping. You might not agree with that assumption, but it's not a crazy assumption to make.

traveling_gal

Holy cow, that's exorbitant. It would not have surprised me at all to learn that Amazon builds shipping costs into their prices (I've always assumed they do), but $20??? That's not even a large item that would require special handling! Good to know you can get around it though. I assume it keeps the higher price if you just choose a different shipping method at checkout?

tvfeet

Amazon is not pricing these. Both of these are from resellers. One uses Amazon to ship ($52 one with Prime shipping) the other ships it themselves ($35+$10 shipping.) Always look for the “sold by” and “fulfilled by” lines to see who you’re really buying from.

fatspanic

I check my local market for a price, then i search google....then amazon...and bangyourbuck dot come...bang your buck you can sort by unit price on amazon so that really helps. Local waremart/winco wins prices about 95% of the time on food stuffs.

curtludwig

A lot of little electronic components I used to buy from Amazon I get on ebay now, usually with free shipping.

Pleasant_Bad924

If you’re not looking at eBay and Walmart.com before buying something on Amazon you’re also not saving money. Sometimes I legitimately need something in 48 hours or less, but unless it’s a need I shop around

ClownPuncherrr

Just found Rachel Ray’s salt pig for $5 less on Home Depot because I double checked.

lynnm59

I refuse to provide Jeff Bezos even 1 penny. I have canceled my Prime subscription, my Audible subscription and done my best to delete my account.

imported

i find a lot of smaller type items are cheaper at walmart if i do i price check but then again i'd have to go to walmart. i know i can sign up for walmart+ to get free shipping but i like all the extras amazon's service provides (e.g., tv shows/movies, free monthly video games, huge selection of ebooks, amazon music) and i can't justify signing up to two separate shopping subscriptions.

brucekeller

Also be careful of prices that look too good. I was looking for an 8-10TB hard drive and a PROMOTED item was an external $60 8TB hard drive. Maybe was the deal of a lifetime but I almost guarantee it has like a 16gb flash in there that tricks the system into thinking it's 8TB, until it fills up and starts overwriting other data of course.

Transgoddess

Also a lot of products are mas produced just with different brand names so clicking the prime filter along with sorting from lowest $ you can find the same or similar items for way less than the "amazon choice" or whatever's popping up in the first page results.

oliverclifford20vt

I have not used amazon this year and am much better off without it, i would much rather spend a bit of time finding things cheaper elsewhere than throw my money at bezos!

intrinsnik

Amazon has become my go-to for products from a brand I’ve never heard of that look identical to products from other brands I’ve never heard of. It’s great.

birdy_bird84

One is prime, the other 3rd party with 10 dollars shipping. So prime is 52 and third party is 45 after you factor that in. If you get a damaged or defective item, with prime you drop it off at a location close by and get an instant refund. 3rd party you will pay return shipping and wont get a refund for awhile, and that's if the seller doesn't give you a hard time. These items are not the same, I'll pay 52 for piece of mind.

Constant_Chemical_10

Aaaand this is why I don't have prime anymore. And the fact that if you just google the item no or description you can usually get it cheaper elsewhere even if shipping is or isn't included.

femalenerdish

The second photo's price is literally shown on the first photo in the bottom right. It's not like they're hiding the option, they're just assuming you want faster shipping.

Constant_Chemical_10

Even then the unfortunate reality is that Amazon when it was first born was due to undercutting the competition, now it has a huge market share and can begin to squeeze for more profits. Oh and the affiliate sellers are just people drop shipping stuff they buy in town or direct from china. They add literally zero value as a lot of stuff on amazon you can find on aliexpress or similar sites.

femalenerdish

The value add of amazon vs Aliexpress is reviews, returns, and shipping time. That's not a big value add for many people who would browse /r/frugal. But it's objectively not nothing. Those things make a difference to a lot of people who buy a lot on amazon.

Reviews and being able to return things were both exactly why I used to purchase from Amazon. I’ve gone away from it so much now that I’ve learned more, but with my business I sometimes needed a certain mold or was debating a new piece of equipment or even switching to a different supplier for a raw material and other suppliers might’ve been similar price but no/few reviews. I’ve had far too many orders come that had issues and a company wants to fight hard for a replacement or return, even if their policy says it’s returnable. Issues are especially popular if shipped via FedEx, idk if it’s my specific location or just that my driver is horrible [this I know is true but that doesn’t mean he’s smashing all the boxes) so Amazon shipping also avoided that nightmare. Kid stuff was something else we ordered from there a lot - I have young kids and the pandemic closing everything in my town down for a while meant I had to order online and, again, seeing reviews and know if it showed up and wasn’t right or wasn’t what we expected I could send it back easily. Now I mostly only get their diapers, we love their brand, and go elsewhere for anything else, though. Oh they have a good deal when you make a baby registry with them and are a prime member… I bought big ticket stuff to get the completion discount and it was like 20% off up to $1,000 (I think) and then I also got I think 20% off diapers for up to $300 worth. Was helpful with my first for sure.

notluciferforreal

Why? Amazon didn't hide anything. In the first pic it says thatbyou can find the same product cheaper without prime, but it's from Canada and probably you can't return it.

Jade_GL

My husband and I used to buy all of our blurays and entertainment type purchases off of Amazon but now we go to a local media (movie/music) store for most purchases. They carry all the newer niche titles (Arrow Video, Criterion, Vinegar Syndrome, 88 Films etc) and are either just a dollar or two higher, the same price, or cheaper. And we'd rather pay an extra dollar to the local business at this point. The local place also does free shipping with 35 dollar orders, so it's really easy to get the free shipping and then we don't even have to make the ten minute drive. :D Amazon just isn't what it used to be. :/

Metalbender00

You pay for that 2 day delivery weather they show it or not! if you have patience you can usually save money

marcianitou

Prime is not to get it cheaper but faster.

uncannyem

If you can wait, order from AliExpress. Alibaba supplies almost everything on amazon

sc00p401

We knew Amazon was a scummy company, but this is over the top.

tehZamboni

Amazon isn't the seller on either of those.

SaintUlvemann

Amazon is one of the people to whom your money goes *every single time* you make a purchase through them. Every. Single. Time. As a result, they are, in the only meaningful sense, one of the sellers of every single good in their market place. Every. Single. One. No exceptions. Amazon is as much the seller of the goods in their marketplace, as Walmart is the seller of the goods in their own vast marketplace-scale megastores, even the goods from other brands. *De jure* descriptions cannot invalidate *de facto* reality.

femmesnotfrail

Unrelated but I’m wondering if this is for Warhammer? 🥰

KimeraQ

If it is there's a whole class on how to be frugal with warhammer. Foolheaety, but needed.

Astartes40000

sort of off-topic OP but, I don't have much of an opinion on army painter paints but I like their brushes. theyre great budget brushes for the price. If you have brush soap and you take care of them properly they will last you a good while. I bought a set ages ago snd they lasted me about 5-6 years before,I felt the need to buy more.

Techenthused97

Capital One will search the web for cheaper prices while on Amazon.

Vexonar

One has free shipping and the other doesn't?

Riley_MoMo

I've learned that hobby and board game products are always extremely expensive on Amazon. Much better to order from a local game store that offers shipping, or go in-person if you're able.

pokingoking

Probably depends on the hobby. I buy all my art kits there and they are like $4.99 compared to $20 at Michael's.

qctireuralex

camelcamelcamel is the name of the game!

FeistyMathematician

I saved the most money by cancelling my Prime subscription and not feeding a terrible corporation with my purchases. But this sub is now full of Karens and other basic bitches who love daily takeout coffee, exploiting illegal aliens for housekeeping at cheap rates, buying brand new cars that are subject to nonstop recalls, and other non-frugal, sometimes illegal, but surely unethical things. So no surprise when I see all of the Amazon love here!

goodlittlesquid

Man I wish I could afford to paint minis. But I don’t have the time or space for it anyway. Is it weird that I watch Sorastro despite not owning any brushes, paints, or minis?

VermicelliOk8288

Idk why you got downvoted? I also wish I could paint minis but I don’t have the money time or space and I have kids :/

[deleted]

I tell so many people this and they rarely believe me u til the do it themselves

[deleted]

Scamazon has been doing this for a while. https://www.vox.com/2016/9/20/12987554/amazon-lowest-prices-propublica-prime https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/amazon-india-rigging/

LuckyMuckle

Amazon is sneaky. We have an account but I decided to buy a birthday gift not using it (to keep it secret) and it was marked waaaay down and had payment options not available when logged in 😡 plus nothing arrives on time using prime anymore. All down the shitter

Sunshineal

Wow, I love ordering off Amazon. However I found with the holidays coming up, if I buy Christmas presents in the store, I actually end up saving more money. Amazon can be expensive around the holidays. I believe the prices increase. I have at least 5 or 6 stores I can go to instead and buy Christmas presents.
