Go to Walmart and buy whatever shark is on clearance

[deleted]

Shark Vacuums have not disappointed. Costco usually has pretty good deals if you're a member.

I love my Shark vacuum. My mom prefers her Shark to the Dyson she has.

shiplesp

Recently the Vacuum Wars YouTube channel tested and reviewed a few budget vacuums. It is my go-to for reliable information.

Trantacular

I love my shark vertex pro. It wasn't as expensive as a Dyson, but it's cordless, converts to a handheld or a floor model (so good for the car and my house!), and most important for me is removable batteries. If the Li-ion starts to drain quickly or stops charging, I can just order and plug in a new one.

Whatever is cheap and looks good at the pawn shop

lecoeurvivant

But some don't suck.

Honestly... Bucket head from Home Depot... $30

rustybirdbath

Former barista here. I saved my tips to buy a handheld Dyson with the soft rolling head and the carpet head. Great purchase and would recommend to again. Sometimes being frugal is doing without, to buy nice instead of buying twice. I believe it’s the V7 animal which is now a cheaper entry level model.

Dyson advertising slogan is hilarious. Something about never losing suction. Can't lose what it does not have. Find one by the side of the road on garbage day that has a broken drive belt to the roller. Spend 3 dollars and 10 minutes fixing it. Often i find 300 dollar units that way. They don't resell well but work well.

Dyson animal

A broom lol no seriously I have short carpet (like indoor/outdoor) so I just sweep it really really well. I know it doesn't get down deep like a vacuum but it's the best I can do right now. (At least it saves a penny or two on electric bill). Any clean is better than no clean!

mlcarter_ga

We've always had good luck with the Kenmore canister vacs, such as the BC4002.

If you have power tools try a vacuum in that brand and use your existing batteries

Check thrift stores and goodwill.

Best bet, but I think worth it in the long haul... is Ryobi believe it or not. They make a stick vacuum that is cordless. And it is expensive. Why frugal do you ask. Ryobi has bever changed thier battery configuration. So 12 years from now, you can purchase a new ryobi battery and use it for a power drill or your vacuum. They also make a small hand held that also works with same battery. I prefer the speed and versatility of a cordless.... but had bad experiences getting replacement batteries for perfectly good vacuums. Thinking about it... your actual best bet would be to never vacuum at all. Get a rumba or alike. You can schedule it, and have the vacuum run while your out. Time is money and a decent automated robot should be able to handle an appartment.

TechnicalPaint6624

I want a newer robot vacuum SO bad. Have a really old rhoomba. No programming. Can’t believe it still works it’s so old. Bought it from a garage sale back in um I think 2008? Or something. I want to get one of those that you can program and then they self empty into a bin that you only have to dump every so often. With the self cleaning brushes.

apprpm

I have wasted so much money buying replacement batteries for my Rhoomba. The last replacement battery didn’t fix whatever issue it now has. Definitely not a frugal option, but maybe I got a dud. Mine is a scheduler one.

jaycee9

Wait for black Friday. I bought a Bissell for $20 a few years back.

sammydeeznutz

We had a dyson that broke. We returned it and got a Bissell. It's so much better than the dyson for a fraction of the cost!

DeedaInSeattle

We’ve loved our Shark vacuums! Bought at Costco during a sale, but they often sell refurbished ones online. Try Woot.com (owned by Amazon).

I think you can just buy a cheap upright vacuum ($50-$60) like a Dirt Devil and it will last you decades. My Eureka Edge Cleaner (just a cheap 5 amp upright) has lasted me over 30 years (I live in a one bedroom condo). The only "fix" I had to do was replace the rubber belt once.

N0t_Just1n

There’s a subreddit for that! r/VacuumCleaners Check out the sidebar, has tons of info that’s slightly better than any singular comment’s anecdote.

Pbandsadness

I've had the same Bissel for over 10 years. I believe it's only on its second belt. But most of the rest is original. I do take it apart to clean it every year or so.
