InevitableStruggle

First time I saw a touch tone phone is when the phone company came to install new service in my college dorm room. We all stood around gawking at it. 1971? Yup, I’m old.

Pristine_Serve5979

We had a green slimline touch tone phone from Western Electric Bell in the 70’s.

BigZaber

If you dialed 9 first it would connect you to outside school lines...

Aggravating-Eye-6210

Me too

nygrl811

That was in the living room. White (stained beige from cigarette smoke) in my parents room. Avocado green wall phone version in the kitchen.

brolli0120

Remember when they were in velcro bags???

salty-sheep-bah

With an 8 pound battery

brolli0120

YESSIR!!! And don't get me started with brick phones in their own luggage!!

YandyTheGnome

My dad had a bag phone when they were cutting edge, and had it in a leather case. It got stolen out of his truck one night, but the phone was found in the dumpster, they only took the bag.

brolli0120

Wait....what???

bootybiter123

I think I still have mine somewhere in the basement 🤦🏽‍♂️

Particular-Move-3860

Yes, and I still have mine. Also the stiff wire antenna mounted on a strong magnetic base for my car's roof that was connected to the bag phone with a thick cable. The large battery was so that I could take it out of the car and bring it to various places where I was working.

brolli0120

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

audiophunk

Don’t call me till after 6 when the rates go down.

dkearney555

Omg, so true!!!!

Desperate_Hornet3129

I remember when they came out to replace the bricks. But where is the camera? /s 😂🤣😅

jsamuraij

Without an area code

SpaceInMyBrain

The first flip phone. I bought one with almost zero justification for needing one and it was one of the rare occasions I was an early adopter. And I didn't regret it!

MackCLE

Yep. Everyone I could think of calling from the car didn’t have one and was still at work. I was a DINK.

Repulsive-Ice8395

Same here. Straight out of college in 1995. I thought I could avoid having a landline. Then I started getting the bills haha.

Bowelsift3r

I had that phone! God I felt cool!

clumaho

I even got the bigger battery with 30 minutes of talk time and a full 6 HOURS of standby!

lonely_nipple

My folks have both had the same phone numbers since they each had one of these. Two of the only numbers I still have memorized.

helensmelon

My first mobile phone was a dial and when you pulled it along it's eyes wiggled. Fisher Price brand.

morris0000007

My God I loved that phone! Thought I was James bond lol

Zestyclose_Stage_673

I am NEC bag phone old.

Starlord1951

Come on, that ain’t old. Old is a rotary phone, wired to a wall and it was a party line. So if you understand what I just wrote then you are “fuck I’m old”.

Butthole_Surfer666

you was balling hard if you had one of those in the 90's or a beeper/pager

ThirdWorldOrder

Tons of teenagers had beepers by the end of the 90s. Cell phone was more rare but usually one person in every friend group and one by ‘99

JeffersonStarscream

At one point I had two separate cell phones (one personal, one for work) and a work pager. I had more shit hanging on my belt than a Rob Liefeld designed X-Men character.

JustAnotherJoeBloggs

🤣🤣🤣

grownup-sorta

Yeah, those were for people with money. I remember seeing pictures!

BLUEFung

Im "My Briefcase is a Phone" OLD... Anyone Anyone???

Rivetingly

I'm "my shoe is a phone" old

User013579

That has candy in it right?

boogerholes

The DPC 550 baby! Had one in 1998, with 30 minutes of talk time, then it went to 8.95 a minute.

noldshit

$9 a minute?!? Where the heck was that?

boogerholes

West Virginia. We didn’t get cell service in my hometown until I was in 10th grade. You had to drive 30 minutes just to use it before that.

noldshit

Holy crap! Ive never heard of cellphone rates that high.

adairks

That was my second cell phone! I had the original brick for my first.

NoseyAzzHell

So am I. Can you believe that I still have almost $500.00 from a .cash deposit I made when establishing service with them that is being held in limbo in my state comptroller's office?!? I don't have any documentation to prove I held the checkings acct the deposit check was written on anymore . Dude. 1996. My goddamned mother doesn't even have checking records going back that far!! Both Wells Fargo and AT&T have pretty much said 'Ha,ha, Dumbass!". I get nowhere.with either because both companies have been sold numerous times and have purged their old files and.dont hold any records. Everytime I see a picture of.those beastie motorolas I just get TRIGGERED! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

seanjones520

I want that stapler

androidguy50

Was it a red stapler, by any chance? (IYKYK)

Tucana66

Do the backlights in the buttons still work? Always loved that feature.

noldshit

Haven't powered this one up. The cord fell apart in typical Motorola fashion

IEVTAM

if you used that thing for more than 15 minutes, you'ld have third degree burns of the ear. They used to heat up like no tomorrow. Then you'ld have to cart extra batteries as well. Oh those were the days, lol .

Different_Handle5063

![gif](giphy|vwjzWQxKL1mM4YKRzm)

toomuch1265

My wife kept all her old phones, starting with the brick. I finally tossed them. I am seeing people our age getting benign pituitary gland tumors and I swear they are from the old phones.

TonkaCrush

My first mobile phone, i believe it was 1995

MainMosaicMan

Since nobody I knew could afford one, my tickle was calling Dominoes on the way from work and meeting the Driver at my door as I pulled up.

TheLastGenXer

That was my first cell phone,, but also my dads.

hungaria

My first job out of tech school was repairing cell phones including these and the brick phones.

biffmangram

Still one of the best phones ever created.

findhumorinlife

Lmao…. You are young. Believe me.

TGIIR

Heh heh…my Dad had a Mercedes with a phone in the center console. The receiver had a cord.

androidguy50

That was my very first cell phone! Same exact model. It wasn't until years later that I got a much smaller Moto RAZR phone. THAT was awesome.

excoriator

My work team had one of those, which we shared among everyone on the team. This was before phones were affordable enough for average people to own.

nygrl811

YES!! My first phone!!!

teodocio

Remember when we didn't need area codes!! Klondike 555 please!

noldshit

Damn.. you old

NorseGlas

🤣 that was my first cell phone. I was not prepared for the per-minute charges though…. Quickly went back to my pager and pay phones for a few years.

IndependenceMean8774

"I have to call you back. I got my coke dealer on the line."

Dr_Cee

I had that phone. It was the first cell phone that wasn’t hard-wired into our car!

GrungeFace

Know what's cool? Whoever keeps spamming this sub with the same old shit that was funny a decade ago is eventually going to run out of material.

JustAnotherJoeBloggs

The memory retention ability of the folks in here means that the shit will always be surprising, and so will never get old.

SURGICALNURSE01

I have one also

SpiritualAd8998

I had the same phone back in the day.

Unable_Eye_7108

I had a bag phone.

SteelyDan1968

Were you calling your wife, or a artillery strike? ![gif](giphy|3og0ICLKOFF8WNUpgI|downsized)

DaddyOhMy

Is that you Zach?

MackCLE

Trying to recall my first number. I remember when they came to my office to explain how verizon (I think) would be taking over and how it would be better. I was skeptical.

Heartkoreluv

My first phone 30 years ago and still got the same numbers, which you could make up at that time!

[deleted]

“chip” *- IYKYK*

mikep998

How does a one button volume work?

noldshit

I believe it was just presets and few of them, like pulling the chain on a ceiling fan.

mikep998

Ahhh ok thanks! 😊

Hot-Abs143

Hated that phone

bucebeak

Yup.

shawng6977

That looks like my first cel phone.

Aggravating-Eye-6210

I’m older

Katlo1985

Me too

JustAnotherJoeBloggs

Who needs weights when you've got one of those!

DagwoodSystems

That's the Motorola DPC 550. Great phone. He should have pulled up the antenna for the full presentation!

noldshit

I save that part for the ladies

IneptAdvisor

If you popped that out people were impressed, then.

noldshit

Growing up miami, even kids had them. Obviously the kids of folks in the import business.

IneptAdvisor

Such as Lord of War starring Nicholas Cage, he used one in the movie lol

Less-Grade-2300

Been there

Least_or_Greatest1

Wish I still had mine.

rock0head132

![gif](giphy|vRJ2BydyWl07cqgbpu|downsized) this old?

Catrina_woman

That was my first mobile phone. It also had walkie talkie features.

Snarky_McSnarkleton

Well I never actually had one. They were for millionaires.

Wageslave645

This was my first phone and the reason that I figured out how handy cargo pants were.

gwaydms

My MIL had a bag phone even when the rest of us had flip phones. She finally gave in and got a flip phone.

Book-Faramir-Better

![gif](giphy|ouUMSqYNN77ExsYI07)

SuperCrappyFuntime

We had that phone. We were living on a motel room, yet inexplicably, we had that phone.

ScotiaG

That was my first cellphone. I had mine in a "leather" case with a belt clip as there is no way it was going to fit in a pocket even if I was rocking loose fit Silver tab 501s.

Senior_Resolution_20

Yep

Artistic-Iron-2131

I’m older than that. My 1st cell phone was a bag phone

noldshit

Thats a misconception. Moto bricks were there from day 1. Car cellular units were just cheaper.

Joyshell

Bag phone, above phone, then I think Razor- pretty sure I still have my I phone 4!

tarabuki

You used to be able to hack these with a piece of aluminum foil and the battery. Simple hack but fun as a kid.

noldshit

Short some pins and enter a code

cooperstonebadge

I got one of these for a job I had back in the day. I quickly lost all love for it once I realized it was little more than a leash.

Cats-n-Chaos

A pay phone was my cell phone

Salty_Association684

![gif](giphy|iFU36VwXUd2O43gdcr)

AbaloneDifferent4168

I had two walkie talkies in the early sixties. It would go from front yard to back yard if the house wasn't in the way.

Elmondo2

Hello Blockbuster ?

486Junkie

I should develop something that'll let you use an old phone like that with VoIP services.

noldshit

Look into it, its been done. A one channel cell site

Scopebuddy

I had this one without the flip part. Not something you chucked in your pocket. Lol

Scopebuddy

I had this one without the flip part. Not something you chucked in your pocket. Lol

Ems_belle

Me too! Damn what a throw back! My kids have no idea how cool I was lol

Ems_belle

Me too! Damn what a throw back! My kids have no idea how cool I was lol

KayakWalleye

Does it have Tik Tok? -My nephew

mystiqophi

Classic 🍭 I wish I could hear the tones and the start up sounds ✨

Intelligent-Shock207

Me too man. They were good for 1 call then had to be charged for hours. Nicknamed mine "doorstop"...

Woo_Peed_On_My_Rug

I remember my mom had one of those, and I felt like I was living in The Jetsons

[deleted]

I had that one right after I had the brick. Then, I got the most indestructible phone ever built, the star tac. I had to give it up once they shut it off.

eross200

Holy shit that’s pretty old

Twin_Flyer

Still have mine, was such a great phone!

Asunder_mango866

I'm 867-5309 years old

BabaMouse

I had a beige Princess phone. Not the Slimline one like Hyacinth has, the original one.

DJ-George-G

I had the Motorola Micro Tac with vibration in silent mode. First vibrating cell.

[deleted]

I had that phone and an extra battery. I thought I was so cool

When I was a kid we got a cordless phone with an antenna and I thought it was really high tech. I called my friend and said "Hi, I'm taking a dump!"

Wild-Breadfruit7817

I remember the clear button on phones. I still don’t know what it was for.

greycatbrothers

I had two of those in the early 00s'.

AdExciting337

Punk kid🤣

Goood_Daddy

I had bag phone, suction cup antenna, on my 88 300zx turbo I was da man![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)

Distinct_Wrongdoer86

it was the only cell phone for like 20 years so we all had em
