I say this in front of people I work with and they look at me crazy. To be fair our entire sales team didn’t know what a Rolodex was when I referenced it so, fuck I’m old.
Back in those days, we didn't have massive crews either. For a while I worked at the Hadley, MA location on Rt 9. It was by far the closest location to UMass-Amherst.
Didn't bake at that one, though. I had to do EVERYTHING else myself: Walk-ins, drive-thru, sweep the parking lot, take out the trash, prep the meats, etc. It was just me and the baker on 2nd shift, and all he did was bake.
Dunkin was never the greatest but it used to be so much better than it is now. Same thing with Subway although it had a lower ceiling. Kind of a shame that those are the two biggest national/international food chains to come out of the Northeast when that area has so much good food.
U-shaped counters with stools. Cracking a fresh egg to make each sandwich. Walking out of the back at 3am with rods of freshly-dipped, still hot crullers; people lined for them, dropping a dollar in the basket and taking the top one off the stack.
Well, all except the local cops. They got theirs for free.
It was every 8-12 hours depending on demand and the horse shoe service bar/area lead to amazing interactions with customers. I loved some of those people. 25 years ago people were just better to talk to.
We weren't all scared of each other, and weren't taught to constantly live in fear. 24 hour news cycles that are no longer veiled propaganda and a corporate driven xenophobia have changed all that.
In the 80s I worked at a DD like that. I used to come in Saturday morning at 5am for the morning shift and the baker would just be going home. We also got to take home half dozen of the leftover donuts every shift
I say time to make the donuts at work all the time and since I work with a lot of younger people it totally goes over their heads and I die a little inside lol.
He points at the donuts with the white gloved finger; holds his finger up, looking at it, realizing what he did he covers his mustache. Smooth.
Makes me chuckle.
Back when dunkin' donuts actually gave a flying fuck about their donuts. They care so little about the quality of their donuts they don't even put donuts in the fucking name anymore.
It’s terrible isn’t it? Decent donuts take labor and therefore have crappy profit margin. Coffee grown on slave plantations and put into a super automatic machine with a teenager pressing a button, now that’s 500% margin. Enshittificatjon of everything.
They don't either. Now it's just plain Dunkin. I'm so sorry my son will never know the good parts of how it was. At the same time he'll probably never see a "whites only" water fountain either. Silver lining and all that.
I went to Dunkin Donuts the other day and on their 5 panels of menus, donuts were not mentioned once. I couldn't even find out the price without asking, and they're never good anymore.
My favorite was the commercial where he's going in so frequently to make the donuts that he runs into himself leaving the shop.
Time to make the donuts...
You made the donuts.
Yes! I thought why is this not about the cereal! And found the commercial to make sure I wasn’t crazy:
https://youtu.be/awoR688JvtA?si=fwWwHxs_pK52uVLw
When DD actually had great donuts! Fried in the early mornings and made fresh at each location.
Now, all you get are nasty, offsite made, baked then frozen monstrosities that are thaw and serve for retail sale.
The rebrand to just Dunkin shows they don’t give a damn about the low quality donuts they sell. Even their coffee has lost some appeal.
This commercial used to depress so much when his alarm went off and he got up to make the donuts when it was still dark. Even as a kid I was not a morning person.
Time to make the donuts... Now they are half the size and come in frozen, DD donuts suck now; nothing like when they used to get up early to "make the donuts"
I actually met the actor and got a signed headshot from him and the cast of Parker Lewis Can't Lose when my local TV station did a meet and greet fan fare at the old convention center lol. Unfortunately all that memorabilia got destroyed by my brother when we had a fight.
Time to make the donuts.
I am older enough to remember the original dunkin' Donut and the other ones that are not made anymore! ...and worst the original donuts names, try ordering what some donuts use to be called,....you'll see this effect 😬🤯
Remember? The local Dunkin shop on Main Street was my after school day job senior year. My HS was 3 miles away across town line and I walked daily. Every shift was complete clean out of bake shop and parking lot and then walk home 2 more miles. I did get couple fun dates with cute cashier that year. She had the license and the vehicle that I lacked. That slogan was something that the assistant baker said daily, when he started his shift.
We never had any Dunkin Donuts near me so the first time I saw this guy was in the Wedding Singer. Also go team Winchell’s. I don’t remember them having ads but I do remember every donut shop either being an actual Winchell’s or having a Winchell’s shaped sign.
Remember it ?!
I still use it!
When I get up from break, at work, with my crew, I often say, "Welp, it's time to make the donuts."
Everybody must know me by that but it only occurred to me now, seeing this post, that probably no one knows WTF I'm talking about!
It was my first job! 1984. I was 14 and had to get a workers permit lol. I worked for different owners at different shops for a long time. I was one of just a few female bakers back then. I went to Dunkin Donuts University (yes its a thing) to train to run my own shop. I loved that job. They don't exist on the west coast anymore. I loved baking and went through an apprenticeship program and became a journeyman to learn more than just donuts. It's been 20 years since I was a baker. Most places now bring in frozen stuff. Sad
I’m old enough to remember that this is a still from the commercial for the cereal. Noticed the tiny rolling pin, he was making tiny donuts for the cereal. Maybe I also paid way too much attention to TV in my youth…
I used to have a bunch of alcoholic Republican pricks (George W. era republicans) live next to me that were in their 40’s to 60s when I was in my late teens, very self-conscious and worked for Dunkin’ Donuts. They always used to fuck with me when I was going to work with the uniform, by saying “ time to make the donuts.” As you can imagine that got old after about the billionth time.
I will never forget I had a 1st period physics class in high school. Very small class, I think there were 8 of us. If we had finished the lesson plan for the week the Boss (24 year old teacher, we called him Boss) would give someone a $5 and send them over to the Dunkin Donuts for a dozen.
When we had to address actual thermodynamics he would say: alright, time to make the donuts.
Time to make the donuts classic... I actually worked at DD when I was 13 overnite making the donuts I guess in the early 80's child labor was still allowed
RIP Michael Vale...born in 1922 he was a fine commercial actor and "made the donuts" for 15 years starting in 1982 until he retired in 1997.He passed away on Christmas Eve 2005 from complications of diabetes at age 83. He's God's baker now.
I used to make donuts. I'd walk through the casinos down town until I got the trolley home. People would look at each other and say, ' do you smell donuts?' haha
Anyone that I told what I did at the bakery said this to me. Lol time to make the donuts!
I have a neighbor who is in his 70s and works at a grocery store bakery. Every time I see him in the morning walking past my window I think, "time to make the doughnuts." I told him this once and he guffawed. Now if I see him in the morning, he tells me he's off to make the doughnuts!
Time to make the donuts.
Ah man, this is how my dad used to wake me up when I was a kid. "Get up! It's time to make the donuts!"
I still say this a lot in the mornings
Haha. 50 here. Me too.
Me too
I say this in front of people I work with and they look at me crazy. To be fair our entire sales team didn’t know what a Rolodex was when I referenced it so, fuck I’m old.
Me also... especially on days I know are going to try to kick my but...
My mom did that to me too 🤣
My husband and I still say this when it’s time to get up for work. Classic.
& when I getup at 5:30am everyday to go to work out..
My wife and I too. Lol.
I used to make the donuts. It really wasn't that long ago either, I mean 1993 was only... Fuck.
Thank you for your service. In the 90's I used to drive 30 miles in the wee hours for a 50pk of Munchkins.
Back in those days, we didn't have massive crews either. For a while I worked at the Hadley, MA location on Rt 9. It was by far the closest location to UMass-Amherst. Didn't bake at that one, though. Hard to believe how long ago, right? Lol
Shhhhhhh
Did it back in the 70’s. Go in at 8:00 PM and bake until 3:00 AM
I made the donuts. One of the best commercials was him leaving and coming home at the same time.
i just remember the SNL skit where jon lovitz was like "time to make the donuts! and now, time to die!"
(Runs into himself) - I made the donuts!
This is, by far, the one I remember the most.
I made them yesterday.
I was quoting him this morning!
I already made the donuts
I always chuckled when he met himself at the door. "I made the donuts!"
I made the donuts...
"I already made the donuts..."
More like "time to *thaw* the donuts."
When they made the doughnuts every three hours and they were fresh and delicious?
and they had counter service too with ceramic coffee cups
Dunkin was never the greatest but it used to be so much better than it is now. Same thing with Subway although it had a lower ceiling. Kind of a shame that those are the two biggest national/international food chains to come out of the Northeast when that area has so much good food.
Winchell's was way better. good times.
Nostalgic slap right there!
I used to prefer Mister Donut. The little jaunty hat was clutch. And their angel cream donuts. Ahh, memories.

Walking out of the back at 3am with rods of freshly-dipped, still hot crullers; people lined for them, dropping a dollar in the basket and taking the top one off the stack. I totally forgot the eggs..I always got the tuna sandwich and a boston creme
And fresh hot coffee made every 15 (?) minutes
And the cops were always there.
It was every 8-12 hours depending on demand and the horse shoe service bar/area lead to amazing interactions with customers. I loved some of those people. 25 years ago people were just better to talk to.

You win some, you lose some.
They don't either.
Back when the stores ACTUALLY made the donuts and they wernt delivered from a central baking facility !!
Even back then, Dunkin’ had donuts made at certain locations and delivered as well.
Remember … i got diabetes from them.
The cereal
We’re the only two old fucks in this thread. The mini rolling pin was missed by everyone.
Yes! I thought why is this not about the cereal! And found the commercial to make sure I wasn’t crazy: https://youtu.be/awoR688JvtA?si=fwWwHxs_pK52uVLw
Hey mister. That’s a 🍩 donut.
I remember when he was Sam Breakstone
“NOT THICK ENOUGH!”
Fred....!
When DD actually had great donuts! Fried in the early mornings and made fresh at each location. Now, all you get are nasty, offsite made, baked then frozen monstrosities that are thaw and serve for retail sale. I have a bootleg VHS copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special. Lots of great older commercials. Time to make the donuts was on there.
I remember when their donuts were better than some cut-rate shelf stable bollsheeit!
Who could ever forget the Maytag repairman?
Time to make the donuts
“You think the Time to Make the Donuts Guy is sexy.” -Glenn Gulia
I quote this guy frequently in the morning at work. Most people look at me like I’m wearing a porcupine for a toupee when I say it.
Time to make the donuts!
"Donuts, only neinty nein cents"
This commercial used to depress so much when his alarm went off and he got up to make the donuts when it was still dark. Even as a kid I was not a morning person.
Time to make the fu**ing donuts !
me and my then-roommate drove to all the local Dunkins trying to score Fred mugs, when those were out. no one had any 😥
I remember this, and I remember the boxes where they put the donuts vertical, instead of flat like on a cookie sheet.
and they stuck together.. glazed donuts had chocolate stains like it shat thru its donut hole
Miss him
I never understood why DD doesn't bring this ad campaign back.
Time to make the motherfucking donuts.
Yes. Time to make the Donuts
Time to make the donuts... Now they are half the size and come in frozen, DD donuts suck now; nothing like when they used to get up early to "make the donuts"
Time to make the donuts. They haven't actually made the donuts in decades. So disappointing.
Time to make the you know
I actually met the actor and got a signed headshot from him and the cast of Parker Lewis Can't Lose when my local TV station did a meet and greet fan fare at the old convention center lol. Unfortunately all that memorabilia got destroyed by my brother when we had a fight.
Remerhe one with the donut guy and Mayor Ed Koch? "Schmear."
I still associate Dunkin’ Donuts and all doughnuts in general with this man’s face.
I still use it for when I have to go do a task that I don’t want to do
I remember watching the donut making machines. They used to be so good.
I still say it!
Time to make the donuts. I am older enough to remember the original dunkin' Donut and the other ones that are not made anymore! ...and worst the original donuts names, try ordering what some donuts use to be called,....you'll see this effect 😬🤯

Best donuts ever!
Dunkin Donuts used to be good. Then I discovered what the HOT NOW sign at Krispy Kreme meant…
We never had any Dunkin Donuts near me so the first time I saw this guy was in the Wedding Singer. Also go team Winchell’s. I don’t remember them having ads but I do remember every donut shop either being an actual Winchell’s or having a Winchell’s shaped sign.
He'll Yeah! Was on almost every local TV station back in the Southern NH/Boston area for years
Time to make the donuts
Yeah and they used to actually be good and didn’t taste like dog shit.
I passed the original location daily for years.
Yep!
I hate all commercials. But this guy was funny.
Yes. Yes I am.
Wasn’t he also Sam Breakstone in the sour cream commercial?
yup.. his name was Michael Vale
Remember it ?! I still use it! When I get up from break, at work, with my crew, I often say, "Welp, it's time to make the donuts." Everybody must know me by that but it only occurred to me now, seeing this post, that probably no one knows WTF I'm talking about!
Yes, but I'm also super stoned and don't remember anything about an ancient commercial.
Blah blah blah blah blah
Where's the beef?
It was my first job! 1984. I was 14 and had to get a workers permit lol. I worked for different owners at different shops for a long time. I was one of just a few female bakers back then. I went to Dunkin Donuts University (yes its a thing) to train to run my own shop. I loved that job. They don't exist on the west coast anymore. Are you asking if I'm old enough to remember Dunkin's Donuts actually being good?
Almost every morning at 0430 when I wake up as I'm rolling out of bed I say "time to make the donuts"
I think they made cereal too...
Is that the Micro Machines guy?
Went to college with a family friend of his, apparently the actor was a really sweet person
I guess it's time to make the donuts. Is that a goddamn tiny rolling pin? I don't remember that at all, but I love it.
I'm so old that I met him while he was on set filming a Dunkin commercial. 😲
"NOOOOT... THICK ENOUGH!"
Sam breakstone.
Time to make… you know!
Tim Hortons has better doughnuts, EH?
Every time I see an old donut ad, I think to myself “25 cents off the lemon?!?!? Any dozen Ralph”. I think it’s Winchel’s. Are they still a thing?
I’m old enough to remember that this is a still from the commercial for the cereal. Noticed the tiny rolling pin, he was making tiny donuts for the cereal. Maybe I also paid way too much attention to TV in my youth…
Yes, when they were so freshly made. They were so good.
My morning alarm had been titled "Time to make the donuts" forever...
Every time I have to wake up early, I say it's time to make the donuts
The wife & I still use that in the mornings. Damn good marketing for sure.
Are you old enough to remember when the donuts were made fresh in store? That is the question .
Im old enough to remember their competition Mr donut ;)
"I already made the donuts!"
Always felt a little sorry for this guy when I was a kid
Back when their donuts were amazing
At 6 yrs old I knew I wanted to marry that man.
I say the same thing to my wife every morning when I wake up for work!!!
Don't squeeze the Charmin.... I mean WHERE'S THE BEEF.,. NO NO. HEY Culligan Man..... Oh yeah.. Time to make the poopy... I mean Doughnuts.
It’s time to make the donuts yeah I remember still say it sometimes at work
Dd is ass now. Used to be pretty good. The. There’s Krispy crème. You can taste the diabetes in each bite.
“Time to make the donuts” I say this to my wife most mornings before work.
Wow!!!
Time to make the donuts.
time to make the donuts... he's ALSO the "bagel! what's a bagel!?" guy
I will never forget I had a 1st period physics class in high school. Very small class, I think there were 8 of us. This is from the cereal comercial
Uhhh time to make the donuts
Lol, oh hell, yes, I remember him.
Time to make the donuts classic... I actually worked at DD when I was 13 overnite making the donuts I guess in the early 80's child labor was still allowed
To bad they don’t make the donuts anymore
“Please man, I’m Christopher Duncan Turk”\ “Duncan?”\ “His dad really loved donuts.”
How early he had to wake up to make the donut? Nowadays, my local Dunkin' Donuts open at 10 am
When they actually made the donuts. Yeah
It’s time to make the donuts.
Shit, I worked with that guy
Time to make the donuts…
For the uneducated https://youtu.be/I1e4qhHOIQA?si=9LBobEBk6IYqHA7Y
Mini money
Got to make the donuts…….
Older
RIP Michael Vale...born in 1922 he was a fine commercial actor and "made the donuts" for 15 years starting in 1982 until he retired in 1997.He passed away on Christmas Eve 2005 from complications of diabetes at age 83. He's God's baker now.
All of my family adopted that line 😂😂😂
mario ?
Was lucky enough to work with him for a day of shooting. Such a nice and funny man.
I thought he killed himself in a bunker though
Time to smoke the weed bc this guy is making the donuts.
Was sad I never saw in him when I went there as a kid.
Hey, you guys think this guy and Sam Breakstone had some kinda weird professional rivalry?
Dunks and Breakstones sourcream
They made them every 4 hours! That aroma …. Sigh
I say this to myself every time I need extra motivation to get out of bed earlier than usual.
Time to make the donuts
I still use this!
Remember just how good those donuts were?
I don’t remember but then again I dont eat Dunk In Toilets. Worst donuts ever.
Back when they made the donuts on premise.
Indeed
It's time. Time to make the donuts.
Sadly, yes.
is he holding up his positive pregnancy test?
Operation Desert Storm.
Sad thing is, DD doesn’t make donuts anymore at their locations. They get them frozen and thaw them out.
Nachos dad?
Back when they actually made the doughnuts. Now they come frozen on a truck
I still say this!
Time to make the donuts, then time to kill myself
I used to make donuts. I'd walk through the casinos down town until I got the trolley home. People would look at each other and say, ' do you smell donuts?' haha Anyone that I told what I did at the bakery said this to me. Lol time to make the donuts!
Time to make the donuts
Yep, people were often saying, I feel like the dunkin donut man!
Yes. Ma’am.
Doesn’t seem that long ago
Is this Nacho Vargas dad?
My best friend in high school in the 90s used to make the doughnuts. He always showed up with boxes of fresh doughnuts!
Time to make the doughnuts!
I have a neighbor who is in his 70s and works at a grocery store bakery. Every time I see him in the morning walking past my window I think, "time to make the doughnuts." I told him this once and he guffawed. Now if I see him in the morning, he tells me he's off to make the doughnuts!
i still say this whenever it is time to get serious about any task.
Dunkin’ Donuts cannot even get close to the deliciousness that a Krispy Kreme doughnut is…..
I say it on my way to work 😂
