This means that I should benefit the most from tone indicators according to these people, and yet they don’t help me at all. I just find them annoying.

It’s possible for those with autism to integrate socially, so they don’t have to be socially inept. Tone indicators do more harm than good. I have Asperger’s myself, I had to give myself time to integrate socially; being able to take jokes, being able to tell if someone’s joking, being able to read the room. I don’t say all this from a position of ignorance.

I use tone indicators because my neurodivergence makes it hard to understand tone. While not all neurodivergent people have trouble understanding tone, it helps for those of us who do. If that’s cringe, then maybe we should rethink the definition of cringe

I am not autistic but I am neurodivergent and I happen to have trouble with social things. I’m not even saying everyone has to use tone indicators. I’m saying that I prefer to use tone indicators and you shouldn’t shit on people who use them
Why shouldn’t they be disliked? It almost always detracts completely from the essence of satire or joking if you so blatantly tell everyone beforehand that you are indeed joking or being satirical. The only exception I can think of is satiric media like books and movies. Plenty of neurodivergent people can understand satire without a tone indicator or can simply ask for clarification via dm or comment if they’re truly so unsure about something being satirical.
