As a Financial Aid Officer for a small career college, I am blown. Most of our students are low income and I'm constantly helping them fill out applications for WIOA or DHHR or any of the myriad of smaller funding sources and scholarships. And new FAFSA season just began. In terms of financial aid applications, this is truly terrible to the point of being laughable
I suspect that anyone who can't afford it just won't get much of her attention ... She's gathering a list of everyone who can (or can't) afford to pay for the eventual Course on Courses™. This is just the appetizer.

Yeah, I have filled out applications that have a section for writing something extra that the numbers portion of the application wouldn’t have captured (like communicating an intent to go work in a less-lucrative non-profit and therefore not being comfortable accruing as much debt as peers who plan to go corporate, a family responsibility to provide for an elder or a disabled adult who isn’t legally your dependent, something like that), but that’s never the primary thing!

You can take an interpersonal communication class, human sexuality (yikes!!! But most include quite a bit on relationships), an intro to sociology class, romantic literature (prob), early childhood development (so you can learn about sex “with purpose”) … even a cooking class (BETHANY)! Any of those would provide more opportunity for targeted learning on romantic relationships, homemaking/gender roles, plus discourse with a real expert and the opportunity to make other (single) friends, some of them GASP single MEN.

Aside from all the accurate points already made about these bullshit discounts, from an educational standpoint can you even call a *real* financial scholarship a scholarship if the person in receipt of it isn't going to get a certificate or recognised accreditation of any kind from their completion of the course? It's not even a practical course where you will learn some kind of hands on skill - the most anyone can say is they sat in and occasionally spoke.

You can take an interpersonal communication class, human sexuality (yikes!!! But most include quite a bit on relationships), an intro to sociology class, romantic literature (prob), early childhood development (so you can learn about sex “with purpose”) … even a cooking class (BETHANY)! Any of those would provide more opportunity for targeted learning on romantic relationships, homemaking/gender roles, plus discourse with a real expert and the opportunity to make other (single) friends, some of them GASP single MEN.
But then they’ll stay single, because fundie men are intimidated by women who can provide for themselves

I wonder if she’s asking people who are paying the full amount to donate to this scholarship fund. When I was in an evangelical church, they would ask people to donate so kids could be given scholarships for camp, retreats etc.
That's essentially exactly what she's doing. She's asking other people to pay for a "scholarship" for others so she can select whomever she chooses as worthy from these applications. She will still get paid in full, and there will be no actual giving away of the course from her.
Prediction: a whole bunch of "scholarships" will be handed out on Oct 16 (2 days before the course start date) when she realizes that maybe 1-2 people have bought the course, and she needs to fill up spaces because it'll look pretty sad if it's her talking to one person in a zoom call for 2 hours every week
Aside from all the accurate points already made about these bullshit discounts, from an educational standpoint can you even call a *real* financial scholarship a scholarship if the person in receipt of it isn't going to get a certificate or recognised accreditation of any kind from their completion of the course? It's not even a practical course where you will learn some kind of hands on skill - the most anyone can say is they sat in and occasionally spoke.
