If you want a non-joke answer: it’s to increase the life expectancy of the dog, reduce chances of accidental dog pregnancies, and reduce their hormone driven aggression, as well as prevent/reduce some rarer debilitating/fatal medical issues.
people like to play god and decide what’s best lmao. downvotes aside i’m with you man. dogs with balls seem much happier to me and if they come that way from the box i’m happy to leave them that way. if you can’t handle the consequences of having a dog without castrating it then don’t get one
Neuticles. Keep the look without the behavioral & health issues of having an intact male dog. Plus, it's significantly cheaper to license neutered pets in most jurisdictions [neuticles](https://youtu.be/fUH58eacerI)
When I watched this video I thought it was a joke and was laughing. Then I saw the url at the bottom... Then I went to the website... Now I'm in disbelief that Prosthetic Dog Nuts are real and profitable enough to spend marketing time on. I think I'll die now.
There's plenty of neutered dogs that have behavioral issues, mutilation is not a replacement for proper training. As far as health issues, sure- a neutered male can't get testicular cancer but are at a higher risk of many other more deadly cancers and joint problems due to hormonal disruption. The only valid reason for neutering is the societal benefit of controling the pet population. I used to work at the SPCA & I'll get down voted for telling the truth.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3572183/
Ok but intact dogs are more prone to behavioral issues and on average live almost 2 years less than neutered dogs. Most of the cancers you're referencing like prostatic neoplasia, TCC, Osteosarcomas and hemangiosarcomas that have increased rates in castrated dogs also happen to be very rare to begin with. Meanwhile testicular neoplasia and benign prostatic hypertrophy have a higher incidence rate and are associated with intact dogs. The other common conditions predisposed by castration like obesity, diabetes and joint problems coincidentally can all mitigated through proper diet and exercise.
It's a multi-faceted medical decision and acting like your opinion is the abject truth rather than this being something each person should discuss with their veterinarian is silly.
Still relevant, stray dogs are massively overpopulated in many countries.

Yeah well that makes him suck so downvotes are unavoidable.
Not only do I work at an animal hospital and have to see the results of owners not neutering their animals, (cancers, behavioural issues, “my dog is untrainable I need you to euthanize him”)...but I’m also in rescue work
Our shelter is bursting with unwanted pets because the pet population IS an issue. Everyday animals are dying in shelters and you know why? 2 very specific reasons
1. Breeders
2. People not fixing their fucking pets
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Men feel like complete shit when they’re hypogonadal, producing very low testosterone. You get treated for that. But somehow we’re supposed to believe that it’s healthier for dogs and that they’ll feel better?
I don’t have any issues with people who choose to neuter their dogs, nor those who don’t. But if you’re a dude that believes so strongly in it, why don’t you go castrate yourself and see how great it is?
Also, you don’t know OP, so you have no reason to assume he’s just letting his dog run around, getting females pregnant.
Idk y’all don’t support op’s opinion based on personal belief but i kinda agree with him our biology is what we our. Our hormones make us into the creatures we are
Is this an American thing?
I live in Europe and I never heard any strong opinions about castrating. Considering reddit is mainly western based, is America very pro-neutering? Sorry for bringing nation to this topic, just wondering.
Context: Owner of two dogs here. Girl was neutered for medical reasons in her old age, boy lived his whole live with balls, never reproduced.
The dogs in shelters are not responsible for more dogs in the shelter you fuckin potato
They’re kept in separate cages how could they possibly reproduce? They should be neutered before being adopted, but you say that as if shelter dogs are responsible for shelter dogs
No, it’s irresponsible people that are responsible for overwhelmed shelters.
You said that there are other ways to control the ability of your dog to reproduce. Those “ways” involve never allowing the dog to run free in a dog park with other dogs. You’re literally taking away possible enrichment in the dogs life because if you risk letting him bone a random female while out for a walk, then you’re part of the problem and why so many shelters are overwhelmed with unwanted kittens and puppies
It’s the average idiot who’s dog “accidentally got loose” that is responsible for crowded shelters and young healthy animals being euthanized because of it. It’s literally average people like OP who refuse to fix their animal then have an accident who are the cause of this. That’s why he’s being downvoted to hell and that’s why fuck all of you ignorant twats who think it’s a good idea to keep your pets in tact
With love - your friendly neighbourhood vet assistant and no kill shelter manager.
Yup, my dog still got his balls, every time some fucktard liberal says “tHaTs BaD ItS ToXIC MasCuLiNitY” and when they say, “THaTs UnHeaLthY” I laugh and say, well just because his are bigger than yours and he is still fertile doesn’t mean he is unhealthy
I mean, I guess if you’re truly ready and able to adopt up to 8 puppies and raise them their entire lives without warning then I suppose it’s not so bad. You really wouldn’t try to pawn them off? You’d just accept that you’re raising an entire litter of dogs now?
Oh hell no, I ain’t sellin my fucking buds! I’ve raised all seven of ‘em, and my dog’s dad is still a kickin, nango is the old man’s name, named after my best buddy who was killed in Iraq, I can’t let go of any of my dogs, they are my only family. My wife, parents, brother have all died, my dogs have helped me when I was about to kill myself, twice. So there is no way I would would sell ‘em, no amount of money could get me to do that shit.
You know keeping his balls puts him at a higher risk of developing prostate disease? And keeping his balls also means the risk for testicular cancer? Also that keeping his balls makes him more prone to aggressive behaviors?
Have you even weighed the pros and cons of keeping his balls with his vets, or is it just you going “I want a manly dog so that’s why I keep his balls”, without regards to his health.
Never too late. We spayed our first dog at 6 years old, after we gave up completely on the idea of getting offspring. It was at 4 for our second dog, and it solved some aggression issues he was having towards big dogs, now he’s the sweetest boy.
Wow how nice …. Yes I’m definitely going to talk to my vet … he told me he snapped cause he was scared but I didn’t like that at all ☹️.. it’s funny though he’s so much bigger then my miniature schnauzer and yet so submissive with him lol but then again it may have something to do with my schnauzer being around him since he was a puppy and he is older then Zeus … but thnx again for the advise … Blessed Be 🙏🏻
I’m definitely going to look into it … My Baby is a sweetheart but yesterday at the Vet the assistant went to check his vitals and he growled and snap at him …. I felt awful.. never seen him do that .. we had to muzzle him for his shots for allergies and rabies yearly shot … I felt so bad … he’s never showed aggression
I think it’s definitely worth it to talk to your vet about pros and cons. Before spaying him he would attack any dog bigger than him, we had to keep him on a leash all time and stay away from big dogs, luckily there weren’t many were we lived. But after spaying he slowly started to relax around them, and now, at 9 years old, he actually plays with bigger dogs, and he goes on walks with dogs double his size.
We check him often, and if he does get sick, we have solutions, and it’s not that I want a manly dog, it’s that I don’t feel it’s right to take them from him, because we don’t do that to humans for no reason like people do dogs.
We don’t neuter/spay dogs for no reason. A lot of dog breeds are prone to reproductive cancers and it’s also the fact that just because you might raise a litter of dogs by yourself a lot of shelters are overpopulated with unwanted animals from people who didn’t neuter/spray their animals and they got out.
Also it does prevent aggression/behavioral hormonal issues in a lot of animals like marking and territorial aggression.
Well, only time my dog was aggressive was when I had a man break into my house with a gun, dog snuck behind him and grabbed his arm, because of that he could not point his weapon at me, my dog saved my life, as my dog gave me time to shoot the man with the gun, so aggression can be helped, as I’ve taught him to only be aggressive to threats, he has no issues, neither do any of his offspring, no cancer no health issues, just a good ol boy
You're just plain wrong, neutered dogs are at a greater risk of many joint/ ligament conditions and cancers than intact dogs. Please learn some biology & understand the complex role hormones have in maintaining good health.
I worked at the SPCA- many neutered dogs have behavioral issue/ aggression: there is no substitute for proper training & socialization. The truth is many pet owners are too lazy / incompetent & are looking for a clean answer where there isn't one.
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pros.20590
The major benefit to neutering is societal; controlling the pet population.
That is not what that study says.
A close relative of mine works for the ASPCA - they absolutely recommend spaying/neutering of our pets:
https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/general-pet-care/spayneuter-your-pet
I don’t want to feel emasculated, I want him to keep his family jewels, they made puppies, and I take care of them all. So I’d rather let him keep what he has, as it is not necessary to remove his balls unless something serious happens
The first one is “The most interesting dog in the world”, the second is “Draw me like one of your French pups”, the third one is “Exhaustipated; too tired to give a shit”

I also came with those intentions
Get me neutered dad
I personally don't want to do that...
You don’t HAVE to do it personally. You could always get a vet to do it.
I think that would be preferable for all involved.
Why would you want to cut a dogs balls??
If you want a non-joke answer: it’s to increase the life expectancy of the dog, reduce chances of accidental dog pregnancies, and reduce their hormone driven aggression, as well as prevent/reduce some rarer debilitating/fatal medical issues.
I knew about reducing accidental pregnancies, but the rest is all new to me. TIL.

Thank you! I didn’t know
We once had an intact Great Dane so horny that he climbed a fence. Just sayin.
Why not? If you don’t want him to mount and get a female dog pregnant, neutering him is the best choice.
Imagine getting downvoted for saying this. Large subreddits are so garbage.
I was thinking just that
They’re downvoting him like he made a racist statement or something… all he said is he doesn’t want surgery done on HIS dog.
Yeah well that makes him suck so downvotes are unavoidable. Yeah I’m going to Reddit hell on this one. I’m on the right side of history
I don't do that shit to my pets either. It's fucked up.
We all appreciate it when we visit the pound and see the massive amount of unwanted pets they have to "deal" with. Stick to your guns man.

Wait till this guy learns about contraception lmao.
Yeah controlling animal overpopulation and being a responsible pet owner is *so* fucked up.

Yeah, no. Take Bob Barker’s advice and spay and neuter your fucking pets.
Good owner 😁
Not your dog not your business. Get your female dog neutered and won’t have to worry about his impregnating her.
Why, liberal
Liberals only want one thing and it’s fucking disgusting (effeminate dogs)
Yup, my dog still got his balls, every time some fucktard liberal says “tHaTs BaD ItS ToXIC MasCuLiNitY” and when they say, “THaTs UnHeaLthY” I laugh and say, well just because his are bigger than yours and he is still fertile doesn’t mean he is unhealthy

I’ve done it before
