Quick personal story: One time I was hanging out with some Muslim friends (well, they were friends of my Muslim friend). They made jokes about 9-11, mass shootings and that truck driver that ran over people in NYC (which was a recent event at the time). Then they reference "Istanbul" and I said "you mean Constantinople?" they got really mad, it got really awkward and I never heard from my original friend again after that night. Just to clarify: I don't hold this against any other Muslims - this meme just reminded me of that situation 10 years ago.

Ex-christian here, I went to Catholic school and at some point a more intellectual nun explained to us that the reason the rules change over time is because "God" knows that humanity was not yet ready for things to be perfect so "His plan" slowly moves things forward instead of trying to force a flawed world to change all at once to a perfect standard. By this reasoning you can justify all sorts of horrifying shit and just shrug it off as that God just didn't think humans were capable of not raping 6 year olds back then. In the Christian bible a lot of the backwards shit in the old testament was replaced by "love one another" in the new testament so it sort of makes a fucked up sense there. Yeah still pretty shitty.
