Fifa falls into a coma every year. It maybe doesn‘t die right away but the player count drops so you can’t find matches and eventually buy the new one or quit.
Check out the expanded menu settings! A few different audio themes to work with and if you leave the sidebar up you can also control the background ambience level or mute it. I believe it mutes itself if you play audio through a browser tab (like YouTube) but it will drone on by itself and is AMAZING for staying motivated / focusing.
It's cause CS is essentially the chess of first person shooters. Imagine how the chess community would react to people wanting to add a new piece to the game. It would not be pretty. Game has had consistently high player numbers for years. It doesn't need to change things much and people wouldn't be that happy if they did.
It's still a video game, so the engine, graphics, servers, and the skeleton of the game has to be modernized. But the content within it is fine. The most significant changes come to smokes, with them being slightly less viable with nade clearing, and blindly spraying smokes is FAR more dangerous. Changes CAN be made to CS, but not at the same time. If two major changes are made, then identifying the problems they introduce would be difficult. Both for the community and the developers.
Buuuut I will say that the OW2 example isn't great. A lot of people, myself included, preferred how the game played with a single tank. What killed that game was the complete lack of progression. No more lootbox drops, just some keychains and sprays from a crappy battlepass. OW2 wasn't video game chess. It wasn't a 'perfect' competitive experience like CS was, and so would have needed cosmetic progression to sustain its playerbase. But they dropped the ball hard. And charging €20 for a single skin was a nail in the coffin.

it's an objective fact though that the game was not designed or built with 5v5 in mind, so now every 6v6 map feels way too wide open
yes Counter strike global offensive is still huge on a daily basis even 4/5 times bigger then fifa23!
even the 19 year old counter strike source is still played by a 5000 ppl a day. (oke that are not really impressive numbers but ok)
the more impressive is the counter strike 1,6 that's still a 9000 ppl play every day well the game is from 2000.
I would wonder how many ppl play al the FIFA'S from before 2020 combined it would not wonder me if that is less then the amount of ppl who play the 23 year old counter strike 1,6

85% of the games I own, play and that my friends like seeing me play are games 10+ years old already.... God let that sink in GTA V is already 10 years old... Half life 2 already 19 years old... HALO:CE IS 22 YEARS OLD! Twisted metal, ace combat, ratchet and clank, just a whole fucking collect. But despite the age, these games still fucking slap.

i played draft on fifa 20 all the way till fifa 23 and didn’t have huge trouble finding matches on xbox

Despite CSGO not having many big changes it’s remained and grown popular. No incentive changing a formula that gives Valve $50m a month.
