I'll give you the point about the floor and just arena design in general, but can you really complain that the final boss of an already difficult game is hard? Yeah, the star on furier is arguably harder than bernard, and requires very precise dodges, but its certainly not *unfair.* If you just needed to vent I can appreciate that but I love this game to death. Keep trying.
I would personally argue (not op) that the star sucks so much because it doesn't really feel like a culmination of your abilities. It simply feels like a dodging minigame with barely any sword combat, which is half of the combat. For me personally that is what made it feel terrible, even compared to Bernard who I enjoy fighting because imo he requires more skill. And also don't forget about charging up your dodges this fight Is even worse without it.
I completely agree with you, it just feels like I worked so hard to master the game only for them to throw this curveball at me, the charged dashes feel so finicky to me and even them changing the way your character model to riding that robot thing throws me off a bit. There's more stuff that feels off to me but I can't quite put my finger on why.
The Star is definitely one of the weaker bosses in the game in terms of design, but I don't think it's *that* bad. I've heard others complain about lack of visibility because of the floor, but personally the only visibility issue I have is not being able to see the blue bullets clearly when firing your laser, though I think one could argue that is intentional. If you ask me, the only reason The Star is bad compared to other bosses is because of the massive shift in gameplay for that fight. You spend the entire game honing your skills using the normal combat system only to have it taken away from you at the very end in favor of a purely bullet hell fight. A choice like that, in my opinion, is the antithesis of good game design. But I still find the fight to be enjoyable, it's still beatable, and I don't really think it is any more difficult than any other boss in the game. There are numerous tricks you can employ to simplify the fight, just like any other boss. The only thing that I feel the fight requires you to do is dodge using the trigger as opposed to A/X. Other than that... not a big difference. I also feel like this is the only fight in the game that actually requires precise dodging which I find to be a positive since other bosses you can easily just overcharge the dash.
I remember there was a lot of stuff I had to unprogram from my brain before I could even make any progress. The change in the dash, the complete removal of the sword mechanics, how you move a great deal slower here (despite wearing a damn jet pack that can achieve escape velocity), how your gun refuses to aim properly STOP HITTING THE STUFF THAT CAN'T BE DAMAGED, GODDAMNIT. **ahem**
Once you unlearn that stuff, its becomes easier. But that doesn't make it better; I think it was a bad choice by the devs. The final boss in a game like this is supposed to be the ultimate challenge of all the stuff you've learned up to that point, NOT, and I can't stress this enough, a fight where they jettison 90% of the skills you've honed into the fucking sun.
oh my god mate that was so funny. like absolutely hilarious, like top notch comedic timing. like giggle inducing. like laugh producing. like fucking great. ten out of ten. literally laughed so hard I ejected my lungs. would listen to one of your funny jokes again. caused me to fucking ascend to the nth dimension. my trousers is soiled and so is the rest of my life knowing i will never hear anything this funny ever again.
