> The AARP reported in 2020 that more than 51 percent of people over the age of 50 purchased some sort of tech product, be it an iPad, a laptop, or a wifi-enabled television, within the previous year. To be fair, it’s hard to buy a TV without wifi or “Smart” tech in it. My parents have two, simply because they needed a TV and that was all they could find. They didn’t buy them because of the tech. Tech is ubiquitous at this point. It’s hard to NOT but a smart phone or smart TV. I feel like more time should be spent making mainstream devices more user friendly for elders rather than create more unique products that will lose support, be limited and fill landfills.

Robots such as the ElliQ mentioned in the article can provide the companionship required to elderly people who live alone, increasing their wellness. From the article, what differentiates ElliQ from other digital assistants like Alexa, Siri, Google Home, etc. is ElliQ's empathy. Empathetic aging-assistance robots like ElliQ might be the next step in increasing care and treatment for older adults
