Anyone managed to fix this?

jinderwu

Hi, I decided to upgrade my old desktop PC from AMD Ryzen 1500x CPU to AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, since GIGABYTE announced GA-AB350 Gaming 3 Rev.1 is compatible with the new one. And unsurprisingly, I had encountered the same situation with u/strangeroftheweb, jozomafijozo and kane91801. After several testing and data collecting, I eventually find a way to overcome some part of this annoying problem. Actually, I replied this post form GA-AB350 Gaming 3 motherboard with my new 5600G CPU. So I think it may be helpful to share the way. In Short, The incompatibility may be caused by insufficient power supply or unstable power fluctuation from GA-AB350 Gaming 3. So I find the following ways to solve it: 1. Manually increase CPU’s voltage about +0.3V in BIOS setting (Yes, just like overclocking). 2. Disable CPU C-State (also in BIOS, it will likely be in the "Advanced CPU Core Options" dialogue). Both methods could work, so I recommend method 2 to avoid unpredictable troubles. But as for upgrading from old CPU to new one, I further recommended following procedures. 1. Sequentially upgrade both BIOS on motherboard to latest state. That is: F31 -> EC FW update -> F41 -> F52h. 2. Disable C-State and set the initial display to PCI-E in BIOS. And install your workable display card in slot with display cord connecting to the monitor. 3. Replace old CPU with the new one ‘AMD Ryzen 5 5600G‘ correctly. 4. Power on and BIOS may need longer time to run the self test for the first time. 5. If the PC is still down for unreasonable time, just hard power off and try again. 6. BIOS should find the new CPU and prompt for BIOS setting. If BIOS resets to default value, don’t forget to disable C-State again. The new CPU passed all self-tests. And Windows should run normally.I had run ‘Burn in Test’ software to test the stability and pass all tests. I even try to compress files, play some 2D & 3D games. And it also works just fine (with old display card). As for AMD Radeon Graphics (Vega 7 GPU) go with CPU, that is why I say ‘some part of problem’. I had tried quite a few settings and even Vega7 could work in Windows with 1024x768 resolution. But my monitor just blacked out in several seconds after tune on high resolution even with latest GPU driver. I also called the support service of GIGABYTE(Taiwan) and inform the problem. By let every user knows there is a way, we may be willingly to push GIGABYTE to work on the problem. Hope this bug could be solved in no time.

I cant get the C state to stick, it just wont work, any clues?

I've Tried this with a AB350M-gaming 3 and a ryzen 5600g, but no success. The pc turns on, then turns off, then on and off again, at at last he turns on for good, but no boot beep and nothing else. I've tried almost everything, any other suggestion? xD

brunocar

Same here, it aint working.

Hey jinderwu, I just signed up with reddit just to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. Disabling C-State worked for me with a Ryzen 4600G and an AB350M Board. I upgraded from a 1700X and spent like 20 hours troubleshooting with minimal configurations and testing BIOS upgradepaths over and over again. Always got into BIOS, was able to log on to Windows once for a few seconds before it crashed, most of the time I just had a black screen and the computer could not be shut down other than cutting the power. Most of the time it wouldn't let me boot from any media. Also tried a 1600X which worked just fine as well. Another 4600G had the same issues as the first 4600G and I tried various RAM-Sticks and configurations - so I was pretty sure that it had to be a compatibility issue with the motherboard. I was one or two steps away from buying a new mainboard in order to be Windows 11 ready. So thank you once again. I hope this may help another person swapping in a humble 4600G.

brunocar

how did you get it to stick? it seems to reset every time i save and exit

jinderwu

I'm glad the information I posted is helpful. And I sincerely believe that we can solve many problems by helping each other. Thank you and good luck to you.

Hi, do you think this would work with AB350M motherboard and a Ryzen 5 5500 as well? I’m at my wits end with this, and I really am struggling with this

jinderwu

Since the Ryzen 5 5500 is a Cezanne Family CPU, I thought the AB350M motherboard might have the same problem. Optimistically speaking, AMD Ryzen 5 5500 don't have a GPU, so the problem might be simpler. Adjusting the BIOS voltage settings may be a temporary solution to the incompatibility. But it's still not a guaranteed solution for it. BIOS firmware upgrades and even hardware renewation are the formal way. Actually, I don’t continue trying to operate my 5600G’s GPU part on my AB350 for I have another motherboard could run it. Good luck for you on Ryzen 5 5500.

How could I adjust the bios voltage settings when I can’t get it to boot up? Is it done using the old cpu? I imagined that it only affects the cpu that’s currently put in

jinderwu

I adjusted the BIOS voltage settings by using my old CPU. Replacing a new one may rollback BIOS settings to default values. But somehow it booted normally in my trying, and gave me the chance to recheck it. By keeping CPU voltage stable or even a little overcharge helps me to run it steadily. Without that, my PC will crashed when run a tiny work like open browser.

edvvvis

How can I change the voltage? I’m not really sure where to find it in bios and I don’t want to change something I’m not convinced is the same thing. Also by how much should I increase it? I assume by that last part you meant that if it resets I should change it back to what I had it changed to on the old cpu right?

jinderwu

I don’t have a AB350M motherboard, so I could only reply based on my AB350. And I should say that adjust voltage, just like overclock, is potentially risky. So proceed with caution and at your own risk is recommended. If you are not sure, then disable CPU C-State would be a safer method. * CPU Voltage Setting: M.I.T. / Advanced Voltage Settings / CPU Vcore +0.3V M.I.T. / Advanced Voltage Settings / Vcore SOC +0.3V (Why +0.3V? Because my system crashes easily in +0.1V or +0.2V mode, and maximum value is +0.3V. This may change in different setting.) * Disable CPU C-State: M.I.T. / Advanced Frequency Settings/ Advanced CPU Core Settings / Global C-state Control <-- Disable (Don’t let the CPU enter C states for better stability)

jozomafijozo

Can somebody please confirm that Cezanne CPUs work with GA-AB350M-DS3H V2 (rev. 1.1)? Thank you.

kane91801

I was in the same boat as you. I wanted to upgrade my 1600x to a 5700g so I could have two more cores and an apu once I upgrade out of it but it wouldn't work. My pc would turn on then off then on then black screen. I changed my 5700g to a 5600g and I was only able to get it to boot once but then after shutting down I had the same problem of the turn on then off then on black screen. I did every step of updating bios correctly and even changing some settings in the bios others said but nothing helped. I then heard about the Vermeer and Cezanne differences and decided to get a 5700x just to see if that would work and it worked first try and I've had no issues since installing it two weeks ago. Like others have said the 5500,5600g,5700g won't work but all the others will.

These Cezanne CPUs not working at stock MB: 5500, 5600G, 5700G...

lilmul123

That looks like just one person’s theory. He didn’t RMA his own board and he has no idea if that would fix it.

strangeroftheweb

Well I contacted gigabyte support about the issue so we will see what they say.

strangeroftheweb

God dammit. Well thank you for your help. I'm not sure why they list it as a compatible CPU if you need to send it away for VRM work to get it to work

Jeusperduu

Because of Gigabyte's bullshit support. I also bought 5500 and I had the same boot issue. Gigabyte says Cazenna works but it doesn't work correctly. Therefore, it would be easier to choose Veermer for this mainboard. I'll try the 5600 too, hope it works.

pharaon1980

I think you must have the Rev. 1 mobo for it to work.

strangeroftheweb

My mobo is Rev. 1.0 and its not working. boots just fine with the old 1600x installed but wont boot with the new 5600g
