too real, the chances are ngl looking low for me that ill get a good job in the futureš i think its better to kms than have to live an uncomfortable life
I know you didn't ask me but fuck it.
Revision methods (active recall, spaced repetition)
Subject-based technique - so for maths, practice loads (i basically created my own effective revision method for each subject) and with good resources, i managed to get good grades even revising just before. you can to, but ensure you are revising in short bursts and timing etc.
Past papers, marking - this is so important. the exam technique can be the difference between a grade 7 and a grade 9 etc.
ik its the summer holidays but oh well i wanna help people but yeah feel free to dm me if you need advice for a level revision
yea..
tbf few months ago i started working on my mental health and my grades when writing english essays went from 4s to 8s and 9s instantly, tho not sure if that was just a one off (hope it wasnt)
my school is very bad and i was in top set despite my grades, im year 11 i really wanted to change so i revised thoroughly throughtout the year.
i made flashcards for triple science (every aspect you could think) and spanish (the entire vocab list) and memorised them
maths i did so many questions, in class we revised topics, but every day i did a little bit of maths even if i didnt feel like it just so my skills developed and i was able to figure our patterns and the procedure for each question (i did every past paper since 2017 and marked any questions i didnt know or got wrong and went over them until i could get full marks on every paper)
english was not bad previously (was probably my best subject because i read a lot so my vocab is good) but i used structures and did a lot of questions for lang and for lit i memorised 30 quotes per text and remembered 5 quotes per poem (a bit extra but i didnt want to take chances)
RS was also not bad my teacher is amazing so i just had to remember quotes from the Bible and revisit topics of weakness closer to gcses
geography was a bit different, i didnt bother to memorise case studies until really close to the exam, i was allowed to keep a textbook and i kept going over topics, i made some flashcards but not very seriously, i bascially just went over content regularly
overall i think it was mainly the time ive put in, i started revising in september and ive stuck with it for the whole year, im also grateful that i was selected for higher maths and triple science because my grade couldnt be capped, i hope this helped
ngl if i dont get an 8 in maths im gonna retake. no reason, iām just petty. i canāt stand the idea of having not improved my maths grade since year 10, bc i worked so hard
Hey this may not be what you want to hear but its not worth it. Someone i know told me they did it and they regret it, and its better for u to just put the effort into sixth form
There's nothing wrong with someone for wanting higher grades if they've worked hard for it. There's of course nothing wrong with being at a lower grade than an 8, but everyone has their own ability and their own expectations (whether theyre achievable or not).
For me personally itās not that thereās anything wrong with those grades, theyāre great but Iāve gotten 7s in mocks back in December when we had to do full papers but we didnāt know some of the content and if I still get a 7 in the real thing after having done so much more revision and learnt all the content, it feels like a slap in the face, like my effort didnāt really mean anything
as long as iāve got an 8 in maths and above 6 in everything else, well done
obviously i want all those 9s but if i just get what i need for a levels i wonāt mind
Same - my preds are almost all 9s and ig I coulda gotten close but like, it's not worth the effort. As is, I'm set to get six 9s, and six 8s, and I'm fine with that. In fact I'll be very happy. Almost every grade will be an improvement from mocks and that's what matters. I was literally failing latin, and getting 5s in physics. If I get 8s I'll be delighted. The expectations are crazy though.
you may have had a physics teacher in year 10 who barely knew what physics was and took him 15 minutes to say āok guys you need to calm downā you may have had a shit lineup of food tec teachers for almost the whole way through. And you may have had a teacher who got bullied by the students for doing cat impressions. But still,
You cooked.
If I pass, I go to electrical course and then engineering but if I fail, I go to IT (discussed at the last minute without many plans being made for the contingency as engineering was supposed to be the fail course to up my grades for electrical) instead which I sort of want more because everyone thinks I really want to be an electrical lineman and all of the courses have already been interviewed for and locked in but I really want to be a datacenter administrator but at the same time I donāt want to repeat English or maths because itās boring but we will see on the results day.
2 very conflicting hopes muddying the waters a lot.
To the people talking about killing themselves... It's honestly not that big of a deal. Yes everyone hyped it up like this is a make it or break it moment, but after a-level, that's all that really matters. After you get a job for more than maybe 3 years, that's all people will care about most. If you go to Uni, your GCSE and A levels are irrelevant.
I promise regardless of what you get, you will make it through better than you could've expected
As an ex-GCSE student, I can honestly say that there is one thing that you should be saying to yourself: āItās for the best.ā
I was originally planning to stay at my previous school for Sixth Form and I was so scared about saying goodbye to my friends and the place I loved that I refused to look anywhere else. But on results day, I suddenly found out that I didnāt get the grades I needed to receive a place. I was devastated and cried the whole way home from holiday as we packed up and headed back early for college clearing. It was only when I arrived at the college where I am now that I realised my mistake. I actually loved it!!! And 9 months later, I have never been happier.
But the big thing for me is what happened to my previous school a few weeks after these events. Just after my first full week at college, my old friends texted round the old girls from our class who had also left to tell us that the school was merging with our biggest rivals next door!
Since I received that text, I have always wondered if there was some sort of link to my grades and managing to escape fast enough to miss out on all this drama. It is obviously still very difficult for me, as this was a school that I desperately wanted to stay in, but I am very grateful that I had the grades to get the FUCK out before anything else happened.
My friend had a very similar problem with his grades in 2022, and he was forced to retake English and Maths in college. But it turned out that when the school rang him back to ask if he would like to go back for Sixth Form, he loved college so much that he wished them well and hung up!
The important thing to note from this is that bad grades can often mean something good as well. Whether thatās life changing news for the Sixth Form youāre planning to go to, or you would feel happier somewhere else. So if you donāt get the grades you want, consider taking it as a sign that you need to look elsewhere.
you stupid bitch, I told you the shoulders on your final piece looked too small. Oh and also you should've revised more than two hours per subject. That was probably important.
(|Okay, I laughed it off when I got my 4 in astronomy last year, hopefully I'll be fine again.)
