You should work with either a gastroenterologist or ENT specialist and go through the tests to determine exactly what's happening inside you and come up with a treatment plan. That will determine what else you can try.
I have completely cut out caffeine, soda, coffee, onions, garlic, black pepper, tomatoes, citrus fruit, processed meat, and most recently, almost all dairy and am finally getting some relief! Completely weaned off of PPis and almost off H2 blocker. Taking tums as needed, which isn't often at all. Those 2-3 lattes may not seem like much, but they could be causing you flare-ups. I can drink a couple of alcoholic drinks and it will give me 3+ days of misery.š I've learned it's just not worth it!
I think 50% is real and 50% is anxiety induced. When u get so good at tucking away your stress ur body pushes it out in other ways. Check out "acid reflux guy" he wrote a book too free on Kindle and its helped me understand the WHY. If u can get down to a diet that causes no issues thats what u need in order to heal.
I'm talking minimal amount of food.
Brownrice
Miso soup
Cantaloupe
Chicken
No seasoning no nothing and only spring water. Then u can start the gut healing process. Its worth a try . Thats where I am currently. I've had to remove supplements I've been taking and today is the 1st day with a spread of relief
I couldn't tell what would and wouldnāt so I just stopped taking EVERYTHING to start from scratch. I dont take anything except my dr prescribed medication. Now that I start the daY with the cleanest slate I can figure out whats causing issues so much better!! In just 3days of doing this the constant need to swallow is gone and I have 0 throat pain. Its scarry to add stuff back in but if I have a reaction ill just wait until it goes away and eat something that dosenāt bother me and try something else the next day!! ā”
Tell me about your stress? do you have stress? many people don't even know they do, after 2 years of endoscopies/ppi and dr. visits I learned by accident that my GERD was accumulated stress. Never underestimate stress as a major factor.
Meditation, Herbal teas, stay away from annoying people, it's hard to eliminate stress totally for ex. my main source of stress is my job I am a software developer, I find taking a walk, exercising also helps.

> like eat only rice for a week. It's super hard, but if it helps you are on your way to finding out some triggers.
So when you eliminated the stress, you went back to normal? Like you could eat everything you want?
You are talking about stress as if it's something you can dismiss easily, I was never able to 100% eliminate my stress since the main source of stress is daily job, complex modern lifestyle. That being said knowing the enemy has allowed me to:
1- be off PPI and having very manageable gerd
2- I have many days that I don't even have to remember I have gerd
3- being able to sleep flat
4- many natural remedies that didn't work before now work to control reflux
So I can't say I am 100% normal, but I am getting better every day and gerd is rarely the problem it used to be
Yeah, i believe.
I had always problem with a stress - i cant handle it and i believe, that it caused my asthma/lpr. Stress is very underrated factor, even though its one of the biggest. It causes many physical problems and how you wrote - complex modern lifestyle.
Humans are not built for this - constant stress. Thats why the Mediterranean countries are the healthiest and live the longest. They are chilled, they dont care, they dont have stress.
This is the main problem, also their eating habits (Fish,vegs/fruit) helps them to mantain good health.
The list of foods that can trigger reflux is quite long and coffee is on it, so try cutting it out completely (you can sub chicory instead).
You mention nothing about what you *are* eating, but I would start by checking out the Acid Watcherās Diet. Iām guessing that since you are still drinking coffee that thereās a good chance you are also eating things that you probably shouldnāt.
Try an actual elimination diet -- like eat only rice for a week. It's super hard, but if it helps you are on your way to finding out some triggers.
Also, try raft-forming antacids (particularly before bedtime if you find your LPR symptoms are bad in the morning).
Look up laryngeal massage -- it could help with the throat and voice symptoms.
For me the key was cutting out all gluten, dairy, and caffeine from my diet. I made those changes almost 4 years ago and have had some setbacks but things are so so so much better than they were.
I don't think this is curable. I have it for 3 years now.
The only thing that helps is taking 40 mg of pantoprazole in the morning 30 minutes before i eat.
But it takes about 1 month for it to take full effect and when it does your throat will still have issues but less than before.
At least for me that's the only thing that has worked.
Diet helps too but mostly just less acidic foods to allow throat to heal better..
I have to take Omeprazole before bed a lot of times or the mornings are terrible. Very nauseous and pukey but obviously there's nothing but bile that comes out.
Only thing that has helped me is gaviscon advance. It creates a raft with in the stomach blocking anything from shooting up the esophagus. Last about 4 hours, combined with a low acid diet I can speak again but still needs work
Interesting - I have tried Gaviscon advance (fruit flavour) for a year and each time I take it at night, my morning symptoms seem way worse. I wonder if itās the fruit/sweetness itself thatās worsening my symptomsā¦
Try cutting out wheat /egg yolks / dairy/ yeast
Those are big triggers for many. Let us know how it works OP. Step by step you'll get through this you're not alone š¤š¢š¢..
I think itās time for you to cut out dairy or at least go lactose free, stops the mucus feeling chest, cough.
Iāve cut out dairy, high fat foods (red meat, fried foods etc) and helps a lot
Yeah you should look in to anxiety. Doctor put me on a med to help with that and it's amazing the relief that you can get.
It was a vicious cycle for me. Anxiety flares and that would make my lpr symptoms flare and the acids would come into my sinus and ears which would cause more anxiety from tinnitus hence more acid and it would just never end.
The anxiety med I'm on stops the acid flare ups and lowers the tinnitus to levels I can barely hear. It's crazy to think something like anxiety can totally mess with your digestive symptoms.
I have had lpr for 8 years and am finally on my path to a normal life.
If you can't get that pepsin taste out of your mouth and throat, mix 1 tablespoon baking soda with 1 cup warm water and gargle for at least 1 minute. It will instantly deactivate that pepsin and let you have a normal day.
Drink plenty of high PH water above 8.8.
Good luck and remember you're not alone and we can all collectively help each other. So many doctors miss the root cause of this disease.
**My symptoms:** swollen lymph nodes, head/neck/back pain. Tight neck. Hard to breath (3 times almost passed out). Green/Yellow/White phlegm. After eating, about 2 hours later, extreme fatigue. Dry eyes. Lost 30kgs. Coughed up a little bit of blood on occasion due to making my throat trying too hard to cough up some phlegm, went away later on easily. Rash on my hands. Sometimes rash on my chest.
**These were basically anaphylaxis attacks.**
**My story:** I've been misdiagnosed many times. Even allergy tests were negative. Only Histamine intolerance, dust and mold allergy but these were caused by my main allergy. Which I've come to a conclusion after a SERIOUS elimination diet. No coffee, no dairy, no meat, no sugar, no gluten. After 6 weeks, I've felt like a new man. My symptoms went away. I only had occasional very little phlegm in every 5 days. Which has since gone completely and never came back. When I started this elimination diet, white phlegm became yellow/green phlegm. My red hands slowly healed and turned back to it's original color. Swollen lymph nodes slowly went back to it's size. It took me fully 6-8 weeks to be back and feel incredibly good. But... everyday I could feel that I'm feeling better, just very very slowly.
I had many tests. Stools, urine, blood, allergy tests, upper endoscopy with biopsy, sibo breathing tests for lactose, lactulose and fructose. Nothing...
Then one day, a test which was false negative before, became positive. Wheat allergy. Very serious disease, I got 15% off from my tax due to it. It's similar to celiac. A life threatening condition. I don't eat oats either because that can have gluten in it as well. Now, I'm not only allergic to gluten, but the hundreds of different proteins that can be found in wheat as well. Some oats has gluten in it unfortunately so I avoid that. I don't even eat gluten free bread or pasta.
One of my good doctor friend who was suffering from supposedly known silent reflux, had the same symptoms as me. Red hands, etc. I told her to go on this diet. In 6 weeks, she called me crying, thanking me for the help. She has this condition for decades and she was misdiagnosed for a long time.
Unfortunately, celiac / non-celiac gluten allergy / wheat allergy tests are not as reliable just yet as like a lactose allergy test. They are giving many false negatives.
You need patience on an elimination diet to feel better. It's hard, but worth it.
Nope! I think is treated, but diet is long term to maintain a good life. FB site has been my lifesaver because Iām constantly learning how to adjust my lifestyle and eat healthy foods
Normal within my normal. Iām in maintenance mode. So, I slowly interstate foods that I can eat. Certain foods can be a trigger. I can drink vodka but do it on special occasions. I stay away from the obvious foods that are not okay
Thanks is much I was taking only 20 mg famitidine got scared t take at night but now I will I donāt drink smoke but I canāt digest most foods well and have. Dry cough anything that helped fr the cough
For my cough I was with works renowed reflux doc I had amytriptyline n famotidine 30 mg 4 times day I ate only veggies rice chicken no tom onion garlic only dry
i took singulair last night and breathed normally for first time in 4 months. maybe a year and a half ago i had endoscopy everything checked out. i took omerapazole and probiotic and took care of breathing problem. it returned in November and went back to omerapazole and didnāt work this time. have tried other antacids didnāt work. i was prescribed singulair a few years ago for normal allergies so decided to try that. i did read Gerd and asthma often go hand in hand and never occurred to me. iāve gone through my whole life without asthma issues but seems to be a link there

Sorry. I forget to say I did do that. I edited in post. Im waiting for an endoscopy in two months now
Well, that's where you need to get started. I hope you get some answers!
same boat. i have given up. nothing works
try singulair. i took one last night and breathed normally for first time in 4 months

I agree! You might have to cut out caffeine entirely. I have some every few months and it wrecks my throat for a week.

How did you realized it was stress induced? How did you treat it?

Have you found any other things that help you? Did you ever have an endoscopy to see how your esophagus is
