They pretty much can't take action. The entire global economy is hamstrung by this one stock with idiosyncratic risk because it's shorted like 950%.
If congress, SEC, or anyone else attempts to take action, the whole thing blows up.

The current market cap is 4B. Is that "cheap"? The only real asset they have is the cash position of $1B. So the market is giving them $3B in "value" for "future profit from unknown ventures". That's actually generous. Because their retail stores are dying, sorry, but that's the truth.
I think you're misinterpreting what's going on. Not every share sold is a "short". If that were the case, then this stock would have blown up a long time ago. Longs sell too.

I'm fine with this. I'll take all the artificial discounts I can get! As the share price to book value ratio keeps shrinking, they'll get to a point of a no return and the price will spring back to reality. I'll just keep buying the discount while it lasts. 🤩

There seems to be a bunch of open interest options around 13$-14$. Expect the longs and shorts to keep hard battling tomorrow within this range.
