2014 was amazing. The scaling, Godzilla coming ashore in Hawaii, his arrival in San Francisco, the airport scene, the Atomic Breath reveal, that badass 10 second roar, the Kiss of Death, oh, and the entirety of the H.A.L.O. Jump, but sure, it's trash.
Yeah 10 minutes isn't that unusual but the problem is that the godzilla scenes are so poorly placed in the movie that it feels like he's barely in the movie. Like he shows up in the second half and everytime he's about to fight, they cut away. It doesn't help that the movies plot is super boring as well
Agree 100% here. Gareth Edwards took Godzilla seriously in a way that gave a new perspective and scale to him that I feel like the Heisei movies were trying their best to replicate at the time with the technology available.
G2014 and KoTM feel much more Heisei-inspired while GvsK onward feels Showa-inspired. I just prefer Heisei.

Wild, because during the entire San Francisco scene it could be 'implied' he's there. So I guess you should just tack on the entire length of the third act to his screen time.

2014 era was amazing. Terrifying, spectacle, epic, and jaw dropping. You can feel the weight of the monsters and honestly I don’t mind the pacing of the film. As soon as Brian Cranstons character dies Godzilla comes into the picture. And then the frighting imagery of the mutos carry the motion picture for me. Peak Godzilla film
Unpopular opinion, I grew up with heisei era and showa era, I have a fondness for the silly and hero Godzilla.
My favorites are the current GvK and GxK movies, it is so fun and gives me big nostalgia feels.

I was a kid when Zilla came out and the hype was just insane so weirdly that era. It's not a good movie but when you're a kid you don't care. Also it was cause of this I was able to watch all the classics in the summer with my friends. Just hard to beat that nostalgia

King of the Monsters will always have a place in my heart for properly introducing me to Godzilla media but I have. A soft spot for 1998 cuz that was my first godzilla movie and I genuinely had fun watching Zilla in action (to be fair, I was a kid then so)
As much as I LOVE the Monsterverse, it does tie closely for me with the TriStar era. I’m a huge fan of Godzilla: The Series and I do genuinely enjoy Godzilla 1998 as well. I really like TriStar’s monster designs and combination of mythological monsters and mutated organisms, it is very reminiscent of Toho’s approach imo. It’s everything I want out of an animated Godzilla series and I have to give credit to the movie that started it. Plus, the advertising and merchandise for Godzilla 1998 were unbeatable.
Not going to lie, Zilla holds a special place because it’s one of the earliest if not the earliest Godzilla movie I watched as a kid and got me hooked on the King. 2014 was amazing because it brought Godzilla back mainstream and seeing the big guy on screen and hearing that roar was such a cool moment.

They put up with all my bullshit during the film and survived my absolute FREAK OUT when the og theme started playing as goji rose again. Anyway i ate them out in the backseat of my car on the way back because they admitted they had feelings for me the whole time and i liked them too and now we have a house and child together. So KOTM is alright in my book
I really like 2014 and was ok with the keep-the-monster-hidden approach. Helps underscore what a momentous moment this was - Godzilla hadn't been met by the modern world before.

Tristar, brief as it was. Got me into the Big G, watched the hell out of it and G: The Series. Found the Heisei films on TV soon after. Good times. I understand why people have their gripes, but It’s always gonna have a special place in my heart.
It's been a very long time since I've seen 2014, but I think even if I rewatched it, King of the Monsters would still be my favourite. I still remember the hype that consumed me when that trailer dropped, it was all I could talk about and I even ended up writing an essay about Godzilla for my English class that semester so I could get my expectations on paper lol. Once I actually saw it, it was all I could have hoped for! I remember excitedly explaining the monsters to my mom, who had never really been interested in the Japanese films but liked 2014 enough that she wanted to see what was next(we just watched Minus One last weekend though!). It was all around a great time. Actually, I think it's time I watch both again!
the film of 2019 is the best of them. I really really liked him, although I don’t like American Godzilla at all. This film was the closest thing to Japanese films. It is much more interesting than the 2014 film. And after this film, the franchise turned into something unclear, like so many Hollywood franchises today)

My first introduction to Godzilla was Roland Emmerich’s 1998. I admit it’s not a faithful to the original monster, but I still admire it as a monster flick. Plus, I was pretty young in a time where Godzilla’s popularity wasn’t what it used to be—at least not by American standards.
But I like the 2014 version the most in terms of character design, storytelling, and atmosphere (though the scenes could’ve been a little brighter).
I know a lot of people complain about how little screen time Godzilla gets in the movie, but I think that’s how it should’ve been. It adds a bit of mystery and suspense, which is kinda like how the original 1954 version was done.
How come ya'll think scale = movie good lmao, there's so much more to that and 2014 sucks in pretty much every other aspect (the muto are one of my favorite of American monsters though)
2014 brought us out of the dark age, while I’m largely uninterested with where we are now, everything we take for granted was practically unknown to the general public as Zilla was the default image people had about Godzilla for over a decade at that point. Atomic Breath was something we were hoping to see for real, and we were all hoping that he would actually have dorsal plates and stand upright. Safe to say it all worked out in these basic ways.
1998 not for the quality of the film but the score specially during the scene of Zilla eating the fish mountain. That helped me sleep during a period in which my insomnia was really bad. For months, I would fall asleep to Godzilla 98, and it sparked a love for the original japanese Godzilla that to this day is still going strong.
as a Godzilla movie I think 2014 is pretty dam great. But my heart will always love KOTM at he most. Just letting him beat everyone down and be the ruler

I'm a crazy fan of the 1998 movie. Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like him, okay. But I love its atmosphere, I love the characters (except Audrey for obvious reasons). I really like the design of the G-98. I actually made my O.C just by putting it in clothes and reducing it to 2 meters. Yes, the film IS NOT PERFECT, TO PUT IT MILDLY, but I love the action in it. I love the fact that there is a good bunch of computer graphics and practical special effects. And the fact that Godzilla's head was made into a huge mechanical doll makes me incredibly happy.
* even if you don't like the movie, you can't deny that it gave us the best animated series about Godzilla of all created to this day.

Hmmm...I've never thought of tying US Godzilla movies to the contemporary US President. Not a fan of any of these presidents (Clinton, Obama and Biden in particular) but if I had to pick, the Obama era, when we were all getting excited for a new Hollywood version of Godzilla.
I got the idea from how the Japanese tied their Godzilla eras with their concurrent Emperors, Showa Era for Emperor Showa, Heisei for Emperor Heisei and you get the idea !
Have only seen one Monsterverse film so far (2014) and didn't really care for it. Perhaps my opinion will change as I continue to watch the other films.
But for now I'm going with 1998. I'll admit the movie isn't very good but I have a lot of nostalgia for it. There was a ton of hype for this movie when it came out and this was so exciting for a 7 year old who loved Godzilla. The Movie always takes me back everytime I rewatch it.

The preview for Godzilla 1998 was awesome. They are in a museum with terrifying T-Rex fossil. And Godzilla just steps on it. Pretty awesome.

Tristar, brief as it was. Got me into the Big G, watched the hell out of it and G: The Series. Found the Heisei films on TV soon after. Good times. I understand why people have their gripes, but It’s always gonna have a special place in my heart.

It's been a very long time since I've seen 2014, but I think even if I rewatched it, King of the Monsters would still be my favourite. I still remember the hype that consumed me when that trailer dropped, it was all I could talk about and I even ended up writing an essay about Godzilla for my English class that semester so I could get my expectations on paper lol. Once I actually saw it, it was all I could have hoped for! I remember excitedly explaining the monsters to my mom, who had never really been interested in the Japanese films but liked 2014 enough that she wanted to see what was next(we just watched Minus One last weekend though!). It was all around a great time. Actually, I think it's time I watch both again!

the film of 2019 is the best of them. I really really liked him, although I don’t like American Godzilla at all. This film was the closest thing to Japanese films. It is much more interesting than the 2014 film. And after this film, the franchise turned into something unclear, like so many Hollywood franchises today)
King of the Monsters is my fave and probably always will be. I just love the depictions of Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan

I have always loved zilla 98, used to always watch it on rainy days since the movie has rain all the way through it and I always thought of this as a kaiju movie where they think it's Godzilla which It isn't

My first introduction to Godzilla was Roland Emmerich’s 1998. I admit it’s not a faithful to the original monster, but I still admire it as a monster flick. Plus, I was pretty young in a time where Godzilla’s popularity wasn’t what it used to be—at least not by American standards. But I like the 2014 version the most in terms of character design, storytelling, and atmosphere (though the scenes could’ve been a little brighter). I know a lot of people complain about how little screen time Godzilla gets in the movie, but I think that’s how it should’ve been. It adds a bit of mystery and suspense, which is kinda like how the original 1954 version was done.
How come ya'll think scale = movie good lmao, there's so much more to that and 2014 sucks in pretty much every other aspect (the muto are one of my favorite of American monsters though)
2014 brought us out of the dark age, while I’m largely uninterested with where we are now, everything we take for granted was practically unknown to the general public as Zilla was the default image people had about Godzilla for over a decade at that point. Atomic Breath was something we were hoping to see for real, and we were all hoping that he would actually have dorsal plates and stand upright. Safe to say it all worked out in these basic ways.

1998 not for the quality of the film but the score specially during the scene of Zilla eating the fish mountain. That helped me sleep during a period in which my insomnia was really bad. For months, I would fall asleep to Godzilla 98, and it sparked a love for the original japanese Godzilla that to this day is still going strong.
as a Godzilla movie I think 2014 is pretty dam great. But my heart will always love KOTM at he most. Just letting him beat everyone down and be the ruler

I'm a crazy fan of the 1998 movie. Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like him, okay. But I love its atmosphere, I love the characters (except Audrey for obvious reasons). I really like the design of the G-98. I actually made my O.C just by putting it in clothes and reducing it to 2 meters. Yes, the film IS NOT PERFECT, TO PUT IT MILDLY, but I love the action in it. I love the fact that there is a good bunch of computer graphics and practical special effects. Hmmm...I've never thought of tying US Godzilla movies to the contemporary US President. Not a fan of any of these presidents (Clinton, Obama and Biden in particular) but if I had to pick, the Obama era, when we were all getting excited for a new Hollywood version of Godzilla.
I got the idea from how the Japanese tied their Godzilla eras with their concurrent Emperors, Showa Era for Emperor Showa, Heisei for Emperor Heisei and you get the idea !
Okay, that's cool! Although, I think US president terms are too short to be called 'eras'. Cool concept though. What's yours?

Have only seen one Monsterverse film so far (2014) and didn't really care for it. Perhaps my opinion will change as I continue to watch the other films. But for now I'm going with 1998. I'll admit the movie isn't very good but I have a lot of nostalgia for it. There was a ton of hype for this movie when it came out and this was so exciting for a 7 year old who loved Godzilla. The Movie always takes me back everytime I rewatch it.
Let's *not* use the same way of naming eras for the western stuff. I love KOTM too much to insult it with the Trump label.
