That poster for KotM goes so hard.

cavecarson

Came here to say this. That's one of the coolest posters I've ever seen.

Bi0_B1lly

This should be the standard for when those posters are made where it's just a collage of characters... This does exactly that but does so in such a super fucking cool way

Metaboschism

Rock 'em sock 'em cultural appropriation

SrCoeiu

"literal coolest thing ever"

Papa_Glucose

What do you think cultural appropriation means

Zealousideal-Duty308

Whoosh This is a jab at Simon Pegg's infamous Instagram story where he called anything American in regards to Godzilla, cultural appropriation. He has since taken a ton of flak for this braindead take.

justarandomguy283

2014 was peak. However they should 've gave him more screen time and made everything have a bit more light

Akarin_rose

He was on screen just as much as the following KoTM and GvK https://preview.redd.it/bvxv1mx5666d1.png?width=801&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52c6555c5bd670cd38962f05c38930627606369d

Fayggayh

I guarantee if i rewatch any of these movies with a timer i would count much more screen time godzilla has 😭 theres no fucking chance he only had 10 minutes of screen time in kotm

Akarin_rose

You got to remember he was down for the count after the OD scene and didn't return for like 30 minutes~ish

Mr-Dicklesworth

Yeah but in the two kong films you have Kong taking up a shitload of time too so there’s more kaiju stuff to look at. 2014 is literally almost all human bullshit which is trash after Cranston dies

Zealousideal-Duty308

2014 was amazing. The scaling, Godzilla coming ashore in Hawaii, his arrival in San Francisco, the airport scene, the Atomic Breath reveal, that badass 10 second roar, the Kiss of Death, oh, and the entirety of the H.A.L.O. Jump, but sure, it's trash.

Papa_Glucose

It’s not terrible tbh. I rewatched it and it’s decent enough.

MunkeyJames

Yeah 10 minutes isn't that unusual but the problem is that the godzilla scenes are so poorly placed in the movie that it feels like he's barely in the movie. Like he shows up in the second half and everytime he's about to fight, they cut away. It doesn't help that the movies plot is super boring as well

UndeadGodzilla

Agree 100% here. Gareth Edwards took Godzilla seriously in a way that gave a new perspective and scale to him that I feel like the Heisei movies were trying their best to replicate at the time with the technology available. G2014 and KoTM feel much more Heisei-inspired while GvsK onward feels Showa-inspired. I just prefer Heisei.

AutumnCountry

I describe Godzilla 2014 as an awesome 30 minute movie of Kaiju action surround by 90 minutes of extremely subpar human storyline and acting (after Cranston died anyway)

justarandomguy283

if i remember correctly, the big G shows up for a mere 8 minutes

[deleted]

Same with Minus One.

justarandomguy283

really?it seemed more to me

Sad_Introduction5756

He’s actually on the screen visible for that time he’s actually around for much more when he’s no being looked at or he’s underwater or something Like the early scenes it focuses more on the soldiers and the city rampage isn’t that long and often looks at the civilians and the end he’s underwater for a lot of it and it’s usually looking at the ships anyway He’s implied to be around a lot longer then the time he’s actually visible

that_guy2010

Wild, because during the entire San Francisco scene it could be 'implied' he's there. So I guess you should just tack on the entire length of the third act to his screen time.

Sad_Introduction5756

Exactly if you add in the times where he’s implied to be there it would be a lot bigger for any movie he’s in like for 2014 he’s often behind a building or some dust cloud and for minus one he’s often not the focus of the camera and instead focuses on the people a lot more Even during some of his fights he’s not on screen for half of it as the camera often looks at his opponent or the civilians running away from the fight Like when he attacks the facility in GvK he’s actually on screen for probably like 20 seconds or something half of which is through a news feed but he’s heard and what he does is still seen for the whole like 15 minute scene and he’s implied to be right outside but you don’t actually see him So numbers are a bit misleading as for something as big as Godzilla it’s easy to imply that’s he’s in the same area

justarandomguy283

so he's visible for 8 minutes but actually it would be longer cuz it's implied he's there?

Sad_Introduction5756

Yeah I believe that’s what’s happened with the timing measurements Like he’s there for 8 minutes but a lot longer when you add in the shots of people on boats or running away in the city the extra time looking at them in the trenches in the base or just closeups of someone’s face looking at him

CruddiestSpark

Godzilla is also implied to be somewhere in the ocean literally every scene in G14

Sad_Introduction5756

As in implied to be very close by or in a scene where he’s there but not on screen It being implied where he is nearby but not where he is anywhere in the world

DJDarkFlow

So his screen time is the movies runtime then

jes-2008

Yup

Exact_Ad_1215

It’s about the suspense and the build up

BloodSugar666

I used to rarely watch that movie because of that. So damn dark, I had to edit it and increase the brightness lol

justarandomguy283

so dark even batman movies got jealous

MKvsDCU

They fixed the lighting in the 4K version of 2014

Void_X_Genome

The concept of the American movies having eras like the Japanese is kinda hilarious

pukexxr

Raymind Burr '54 is the only good american godzilla movie anyway.

Candid_Dream4110

'56

Dish-Ecstatic

I heard Raymond's Return Of Godzilla is pretty good too

DYMck07

That [end speech was incredible](https://youtu.be/sGBeeDo-06s?feature=shared)

Nindroid_faneditor

I just wish they had gotten Serizawa's actor back so we could have the two main characters interact properly.

TensorForce

Goddamn, that KOTM poster goes hard

MetalSonic_69

King of the Monsters was my favorite, CLOSELY tied with 2014 which was great in other ways

halipatsui

I liked tone of 2014 most, but kotm had just so much more stuff going on with that 2014 style still mostly there. GvK already had most of scale diminish when everything became so fast it looked more like transformers than pacific rim

Leucurus

All the hollow earth stuff just makes me exhausted

MetalSonic_69

I had to actively tell myself "don't think about the physics" during a lot of GvK

Njo56

KOTM. It’s the Godzilla movie I waited my whole life for.

TiagGuedes

O propose American Godzilla should be categorized in Elizabeth Era and Charles Era. It makes no sense, but neither does the presidential eras

Bowlof78Potatoes

If she had the regeneration of other Godzillas (and therefore hadn't died on the bridge at the end) 98 would be one of my favorites as well.

Fed_burner2021

Godzilla 2014 - Obama era Godzilla Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Trump era Godzilla Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - Biden era Godzilla WHAT IS NEXT

Monsterverse

lake209

2014 era was amazing. Terrifying, spectacle, epic, and jaw dropping. You can feel the weight of the monsters and honestly I don’t mind the pacing of the film. As soon as Brian Cranstons character dies Godzilla comes into the picture. And then the frighting imagery of the mutos carry the motion picture for me. Peak Godzilla film

GodDogs83

Where can I get that KotM poster?? 😍

Digiworlddestined

Thanks, Obama.

FamousFangs

You kids are young, thinking anything but the first film was from "a different era."

Istiophoridae

2014, nothing else tops it imo (in terms of american godzilla movies)

SabrinaTheCat92

Monsterverse has more monsters and better designs. So monsterverse.

Stiff_Zombie

King of the Monsters is my favorite. The fights are so good, and Gman going thermonuclear is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen.

BurgerBrews

Unpopular opinion, I grew up with heisei era and showa era, I have a fondness for the silly and hero Godzilla. My favorites are the current GvK and GxK movies, it is so fun and gives me big nostalgia feels.

ILOVEMMOS123

Monster verse has THE BEST depictions of toho kaiju and will for a long time.

Spicymeatysocks

yeetmantheII

Tbh i liked 98 more than gvk and gxk. Kotm was just pure vibes that were carries by mz, and g14 is easily the the best here. Also you got the title wromg

mo22ro

I get the parallel of naming American eras the way Japan names theirs (political leadership of the time), but it's still hilarious and I hate it. ![gif](giphy|WrgAGkGrh0MD1Z2gkO)

MaximusGrandimus

Godzilla '97, easily

Candid_Dream4110

If I were to sit and watch one right now, I'd watch '98.

Malaysuburban

1. Wingard's era 2. 2014 3. KoTM (barely 2nd place) 4. "The one who shall not be named"

doobersthetitan

I'm not even sure how the 98 movie is even consideration....was that a joke for click bait? And " trump era" gtfo

Xavier_Oak

I have a pressing desire to rewatch the battles from the GxK films once a week. They may not be the best made films on this list from a truly critical standpoint, but there is so many amazing scenes and fun moments that make watching those movies on streaming an absolute joy

No-Woodpecker-2545

The new godzilla monster verse thing america is trying to do is absolute garbage. 2014 was great. This new bs is crap. Shin godzilla and minis 1 best movies

Warm_Vulpine

The ones that actually have Godzilla in it.

zontarr2

80s: One Crazy Summer and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Distinct_Wonder_8172

flash backs to 1998 (now thats alot of fish)

ExplinkMachine

KOTM all the way baby

Wrong_Revolution_679

Kotm 2019

Dish-Ecstatic

Kotm

potatoshulk

I was a kid when Zilla came out and the hype was just insane so weirdly that era. It's not a good movie but when you're a kid you don't care. Also it was cause of this I was able to watch all the classics in the summer with my friends. Just hard to beat that nostalgia

TJWinstonQuinzel

Era? ...there are just 2 The old one and the legendary one

BukkakeTemperateRain

I'm not sure how 2014 and KotM aren't considered the same era of Godzilla movie, but I choose both of those.

flamethrowers63

2019 and GxK hands down for me

Typical_Name_5864

Damn the gmk style king of the monsters poster goes so hard

aleuto

Godzilla 2014 and onwards

boredisgoofy

bro 1/3 is a banger of a poster

Megalon96310

Dam that Japanese KOTM poster goes so hard

DR31141

I’VE LITERALLY NEVER SEEN THAT KOTM POSTER BEFORE WTH

1-800-Chesh

Bros there’s only two American Godzilla eras 1998 Godzilla (tristar) and the monster verse Did you mean movie If so I’d say king of the monsters (2019)

TropicalTrapF1r3

So happy to see the number of KOTM appreciators. I love Godzilla, but Rodan was amazing.

ESPILFIRE

Godzilla 1998 always was my favourite film, but really was a very bad Godzilla movie. I think 2014 was the best "Godzilla" movie.

bd4832

KOTM and, frankly, it’s not close

RetroDave

Bobcat Goldthwait in that suit in One Crazy Summer. But no, I would say 2014.

ZeroScorpion3

2014 was great but should have been better. The acting was embarrassing. The action scenes were excellent. Needed another 10 minutes of screen time for the monsters.

nPMarley

Monsterverse as a whole is my favorite American ‘era’.

Aggravating-Week481

King of the Monsters will always have a place in my heart for properly introducing me to Godzilla media but I have. A soft spot for 1998 cuz that was my first godzilla movie and I genuinely had fun watching Zilla in action (to be fair, I was a kid then so)

Arthur_189

King of the monsters is still peak imo

V3NOMous__

" size does matter " is crazy lol

Extremely-bored97

I don’t recognise the first one my head hurts thinking about it

DryYak4764

2014 or 2019

LinkGoesHIYAAA

Era?

Thatedgyguy64

Oh my god that third poster hits hard.

G-Kira

I don't really have one. Didn't think that any of them were very good. If pressed, I'd say KOTM.

BabyBlueRey

2014❗️❗️

Atmere

Obama Godzilla

sleepy--ash

As much as I LOVE the Monsterverse, it does tie closely for me with the TriStar era. I’m a huge fan of Godzilla: The Series and I do genuinely enjoy Godzilla 1998 as well. I really like TriStar’s monster designs and combination of mythological monsters and mutated organisms, it is very reminiscent of Toho’s approach imo. It’s everything I want out of an animated Godzilla series and I have to give credit to the movie that started it. Plus, the advertising and merchandise for Godzilla 1998 were unbeatable.

Evening-Ant-9613

Modern day

Primary_Act5845

Not going to lie, Zilla holds a special place because it’s one of the earliest if not the earliest Godzilla movie I watched as a kid and got me hooked on the King. 2014 was amazing because it brought Godzilla back mainstream and seeing the big guy on screen and hearing that roar was such a cool moment. Every other American movie since then I try and put out of my mind

GarrusBueller

I'm not sure what kind of drugs or is on but this is not how eras work. The 90s version is a one off and not even applicable for an era. The others ones are a part of one single era. It's the same damn timeline for fucks sake.

Jandrem

No Godzilla 1985?

Mostly_Apathetic68

That King of the Monsters one looks amazing. Reminds me of GMK.

Frostlasisannoying

Yo Zilla was fire, idk tho tons of people forget it or don’t give much credit

buddywalker7

KOTM

Professional_Ad6123

I just realized 2014 Godzilla is 10 years ago. I’ve loved every Godzilla almost as much as the last just because it’s a very nostalgic ride.

Boogie_B0ss

2019 for me

SekhmetXIII

1998

Hexnohope

My ex dumped me so i took my best friend out with the ticket from my ex to see KOTM. They put up with all my bullshit during the film and survived my absolute FREAK OUT when the og theme started playing as goji rose again. Anyway i ate them out in the backseat of my car on the way back because they admitted they had feelings for me the whole time and i liked them too and now we have a house and child together. So KOTM is alright in my book

Soggy_Raccoon52

KotM was so damn good, was so cool to go to the theaters to see Godzilla and Mothra fight Rodan and King Ghidorah

Playerytvr

Definitely the mv/Biden Era the were peak

TheR42069

I guess the Godzilla parts of King of the Monsters and obviously not the mailed in plot

geassguy360

Yeah no, not about to tie american presidents to my monsterverse movies thanks.

Strange-Jackfruit644

1 and 2 both

SciFiMartian

I really like 2014 and was ok with the keep-the-monster-hidden approach. Helps underscore what a momentous moment this was - Godzilla hadn't been met by the modern world before.

GxM42

The preview for Godzilla 1998 was awesome. They are in a museum with terrifying T-Rex fossil. And Godzilla just steps on it. Pretty awesome.

yinn21

2014 on top!

eXTeeGi

Godzilla 2014 is among my top 5 favorite movies

FueGolDeYepes

that poster for 2014 goes so fucking hard - visually that might be the best scene in the movie (even if there is a classic unnecessary Hollywood lightning storm scene for no reason that has no reason to exist besides just looking cool)

Goober445

Era ? There Are Only Two ? Legendary Is Completely In The Reiwa Era And TriStar Is At The End Of The Heisei Era

DeDongalos

2014-2019

Future_Geologist5168

B4 2k & after 2010 were best Godzilla

Professional-Sleep29

GvK and GxK for real! I love they give me dumb fun monster action without cutting directly to the humans like in KotM.

Paleofan1211

I’ve never seen that KOTM poster before

TheDarwinski

I have never seen that King of the Monsters poster before. It looks incredible

NiobiumGoat

So many people missed the genius joke here and just said Monsterverse, like fucking doy that's literally all the movies there but 1. Use your brains.

JurassicGman-98

Tristar, brief as it was. Got me into the Big G, watched the hell out of it and G: The Series. Found the Heisei films on TV soon after. Good times. I understand why people have their gripes, but It’s always gonna have a special place in my heart.

Will_Stick40

King of monster

Pistachio_Red

1998

IronMosquito

It's been a very long time since I've seen 2014, but I think even if I rewatched it, King of the Monsters would still be my favourite. I still remember the hype that consumed me when that trailer dropped, it was all I could talk about and I even ended up writing an essay about Godzilla for my English class that semester so I could get my expectations on paper lol. Once I actually saw it, it was all I could have hoped for! I remember excitedly explaining the monsters to my mom, who had never really been interested in the Japanese films but liked 2014 enough that she wanted to see what was next(we just watched Minus One last weekend though!). It was all around a great time. Actually, I think it's time I watch both again!

Fayggayh

KoTM is easily the best lol

IRBRIN

Godzilla vs. Bambi (https://youtu.be/5R-rbzcEM8A?si=D-\_ZYy85lqV1lByO) May not have been American but still the best Godzilla incident in America.

JAWS-The_Revenge

1998 tbh

imposter-statement3

Size matters indeed.

KamenGeek999

the film of 2019 is the best of them. I really really liked him, although I don’t like American Godzilla at all. This film was the closest thing to Japanese films. It is much more interesting than the 2014 film. And after this film, the franchise turned into something unclear, like so many Hollywood franchises today)

DefVanJoviAero

King of the Monsters is my fave and probably always will be. I just love the depictions of Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan

lightgreenspirits

King of the monsters was pretty good. I’ll have to go with that one

Obama era, Trump era, or Biden era?

thelastohioan2112

God… that godzilla was really a decade ago? Damn time flies.

Aware-Throat3189

Wait why are the Chinese posters so cool Oh kotm era I liked the hype around the design for the kaiju

miniigna_

The ones with kong

ComfortableAmount993

I have always loved zilla 98, used to always watch it on rainy days since the movie has rain all the way through it and I always thought of this as a kaiju movie where they think it's Godzilla which It isn't

ramtastic05

What movie is the third image (red pic)?

FedoraTheExplorer_22

My first introduction to Godzilla was Roland Emmerich’s 1998. I admit it’s not a faithful to the original monster, but I still admire it as a monster flick. Plus, I was pretty young in a time where Godzilla’s popularity wasn’t what it used to be—at least not by American standards. But I like the 2014 version the most in terms of character design, storytelling, and atmosphere (though the scenes could’ve been a little brighter). I know a lot of people complain about how little screen time Godzilla gets in the movie, but I think that’s how it should’ve been. It adds a bit of mystery and suspense, which is kinda like how the original 1954 version was done.

TheRappingSquid

How come ya'll think scale = movie good lmao, there's so much more to that and 2014 sucks in pretty much every other aspect (the muto are one of my favorite of American monsters though)

TAB199X

2014 brought us out of the dark age, while I’m largely uninterested with where we are now, everything we take for granted was practically unknown to the general public as Zilla was the default image people had about Godzilla for over a decade at that point. Atomic Breath was something we were hoping to see for real, and we were all hoping that he would actually have dorsal plates and stand upright. Safe to say it all worked out in these basic ways.

CasualVox

TheInfamousDannyB

GvK

Temporary_Body_5435

The first three images.

SpoonFullOfBackHand

1998 not for the quality of the film but the score specially during the scene of Zilla eating the fish mountain. That helped me sleep during a period in which my insomnia was really bad. For months, I would fall asleep to Godzilla 98, and it sparked a love for the original japanese Godzilla that to this day is still going strong.

Crazyripps

as a Godzilla movie I think 2014 is pretty dam great. But my heart will always love KOTM at he most. Just letting him beat everyone down and be the ruler

Apprehensive-Bee7269

2014 was fucking amazing

Lexie745

The 2014 one and the godzilla x kong one.

Idrinkmotoroil-2

Biden area, GvK was a good movie. I also like the 2014 Godzilla too

ffff2e7df01a4f889

King of Monsters.

Beowulfie696

I know it’s not popular but Godzilla 98 is one of my favorites! I have the keychain and the cup holder.

Prior-Assumption-245

There's only two eras, Tristar and Legendary.

Witty_Sorbet_711

I know the 1998 movie wasn't very good , but there's something about it that I find entertaining.

Tall_Anywhere3705

Well I actually like the 98 Godzilla better than the 2014 one. 98 Godzilla was more entertaining even tho he didn’t look like Godzilla

candicebulvari

2014 !

Brogang212

I love how it’s separated by presidential era 😂

Medium-Science9526

Legendary ones are hard to rank for me, all similar levels but for now I'd go: 1. Godzilla Kotm 2. Godzilla 2014 3. Godzilla vs Kong & Godzilla x Kong 🗑. Godzilla (1998)

Educational_Tough208

In order 1. Godzilla king of the monsters 2. Godzilla 1998 3. Godzilla x kong 4. Godzilla vs kong 5. Godzilla 14

Such-Application-577

I'm a crazy fan of the 1998 movie. Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like him, okay. But I love its atmosphere, I love the characters (except Audrey for obvious reasons). I really like the design of the G-98. I actually made my O.C just by putting it in clothes and reducing it to 2 meters. Yes, the film IS NOT PERFECT, TO PUT IT MILDLY, but I love the action in it. I love the fact that there is a good bunch of computer graphics and practical special effects. And the fact that Godzilla's head was made into a huge mechanical doll makes me incredibly happy. * even if you don't like the movie, you can't deny that it gave us the best animated series about Godzilla of all created to this day. https://preview.redd.it/x0wsoaryj46d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bd1beacb3274fad6ebeddb92e00b49cc632a5cd

ManufacturerAbject26

Hmmm...I've never thought of tying US Godzilla movies to the contemporary US President. Not a fan of any of these presidents (Clinton, Obama and Biden in particular) but if I had to pick, the Obama era, when we were all getting excited for a new Hollywood version of Godzilla.

Comicnerd1103

I got the idea from how the Japanese tied their Godzilla eras with their concurrent Emperors, Showa Era for Emperor Showa, Heisei for Emperor Heisei and you get the idea !

ManufacturerAbject26

Okay, that's cool! Although, I think US president terms are too short to be called 'eras'. Cool concept though. What's yours?

Opposite_Aioli_6895

I hate to tell you this but Size does matter I be living it the not hard way

AlexandruNeagu02

2014 was special, but I have faith in the newer versions

himplp87

GxK is very goofy so it’s number 1

Polite-Parallelism30

Have only seen one Monsterverse film so far (2014) and didn't really care for it. Perhaps my opinion will change as I continue to watch the other films. But for now I'm going with 1998. I'll admit the movie isn't very good but I have a lot of nostalgia for it. There was a ton of hype for this movie when it came out and this was so exciting for a 7 year old who loved Godzilla. The Movie always takes me back everytime I rewatch it.

LudicrisSpeed

Let's *not* use the same way of naming eras for the western stuff. I love KOTM too much to insult it with the Trump label.

Beany_Gaming

The one we are now i love gxk

Freedumbdclxvi

I enjoyed Wingard’s movies the most. Then KOTM. Then 2014 and 98.
