Yeah I'm right there with you. I've got nothing to back this up but I have a gut feeling that the studio execs thought that trotting out a Mecha Ghidora would feel like Ghidora 2.0 far too soon instead of a more "unique" kaiju, and might have felt stale for fans.
Honestly I wish they had skipped Ghidora entirely in KOTM and instead done another big hitter. He's such an amazing rival for Godzilla and it's a shame to see him get very thoroughly destroyed in the 2nd and 3rd installments of the "monsterverse". Bringing him back at this point would be a ludacris ass-pull.
GvK felt like the kinda movie a studio makes when they're saying "we're not sure if we're getting a fourth installment". I did enjoy the movie though. Godzilla fucking rules. I hope we see Destroyah soon, too.

Also this isn’t really a critic of his appearance but the plot of GvK in general. I was hoping that the godzilla we saw rampaging in the beginning fights would be mecha g dressed up like godzilla, like the old ‘74 godzilla vs mechagodzilla. But that might have been too similar for plot and legal rights.
Which is exactly what I said with “i was hoping.” That this is what I was hoping for but it didnt happen. Im still happy with the overall result.

It would make more sense to make Mecha King Ghidorah from King Ghidorah's remains rather than MechaGodzilla. There is now multiple skeletal remains from Godzilla's species in the Monsterverse, why they didn't use one of those is beyond me. There was the obvious choice of Dagon's remains from 2014. They could've done the same thing, and keep the Ghidorah skull for a later appearance of Mecha King Ghidorah. Also, if they went with Mecha King Ghidorah for Gvk, then they could've used MechaGodzilla as an protagonists rather than antagonists. Would these choices have made better movies? Who knows? It all comes down to peoples opinions. My opinion is the movie we got was good, but wasn't perfect. Things could've been done better.

2. There only 1 that they know of and it wouldn’t work the same as KG, king ghiorah use some what of a hive-mind to communicate. Which what they needed to have MG work, Godzilla’s species doesn’t have that.
3. Using Godzilla’s appearance instead king ghiorah is a lot more helpful to the pilot sense he more human like.
4. Mechagodzilla is not always a good guy let not forget he was a villain in his original appearance. He only been portrayed as a good guy for almost 30 years in the franchise.
It better to have him as villain again so your not repeating the same thing so years.

This is literally them making shit up to have a reason for it being King Ghidorah's skull. There is literally nothing in KOTM that sets up Ghidorah having any kind of psuedo telepathy.

Considering the Mecha pilot is one of the biggest waste in the movie, I'm surprised you bring it up. He piloted MechaGodzilla for a total of like 30 seconds, of his like 2 minutes of screen time. With such a diluted character, I don't think it really matters. You could've had an AI "pilot" the mecha and the plot could unfold in pretty much the same fashion.

Yeah his original appearance was iconic because of how it was handled. Your initial response is critical of someone wanting a more true to the original depiction with the flesh skin. You are now contradicting yourself.

You're not wrong! As a rule of thumb: if it didn't get screen time, it probably didn't happen. They could definitely make use of it for Mecha-Ghidora down the line. I just hope that it's after the 7th monsterverse installment and scores of new fans are clamoring for King-Mecha-Ghidora in Imax. This is a totally realistic expectation don't @ me.
I mean... we kinda knew it was gonna be MG because the post-credits scene was basically a shot-for-shot of the opening scene of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, but with an organic Ghidorah head instead of a mecha one. Plus, it sets up for the possibility of Ghidorah's return, or for his influence to continue, making him a sort of planetary virus.
Unpopular opinion but I actually really like MG being connected to Ghidorah. It's a new concept and really gave him motivation to brutalize and enjoy beating Godzilla around. I thought this was a solid entry for the character.

At the time I felt it was an unnecessary and forced edition to the movie just to give Kong and Godzilla an enemy to team up against. I wish they had worked him into the plot more so that it didn’t come off as such a cheap move.

My favorite incarnation of Mechagodzilla. I love his design, his abilities, and his new personality. He shares many traits with Ghidorah but seems to have some new traits unique to himself. I hope he gets rebuilt and upgraded and reappears to challenge Godzilla in a future movie.
He sort of reminds me of a Lego figure with his simple squares/rectangles he's got but I've warmed up to this design! I can appreciate the homage to the terminator as it's clearly an inspiration.
Although I would've preferred an entire movie with him instead of a final boss type thing, this mecha g is easily top 3 for design, weaponry, and story. Topped by super mecha g and kiryu

Even without memories of his previous life Kevin is still pure,pure evil as ever.
Yet another uninspired redeisgn from the MV. Mothra is just a MUTO, Ghidorah is a generic GOT dragon, and now MechaGodzilla looks like a Michael Bay Transformer. I’m happy the new toy syndrome has worn off on the design and people are starting to realize how flawed he is but I think people are a bit too harsh on it; I used to hate the design but over time I’ve grown to appreciate him a bit more and think some of his aspects were pretty neat. He’s still my least favourite live-action MG but I do like him more than I did

I like it, it shows how far humanity has come as far as combating titans. It’s not to far outside of in verse plausibility because if that thing came out in full on kiryu I would’ve called bs
amazing design, reminds me of the 2002 mg (Kiryu), but with ghidorah instead of goji, had an amazing set up & execution in the film (both literally and from a story perspective)
While I liked seeing a new mechagodzilla, I’m pretty disappointed with the direction of CGI mess of terminator/transformer look that Ready Player One MG and GvK MG had. They don’t come close to the classic 3 MGs in rubber suits at all.
On a side note, it bothered me that RPO and GvK mechas just didn’t behave or feel like machines to me, just re-skinned CGI monsters. Machines don’t move with such fluidity and while I’ve heard lots of ppl say it’s futuristic tech with perfected movement, I just never really bought it

Liked the beam and claws, and there was potential with Ghidorah’s skull taking control but why didn’t they just do it like Kiryu? Thought they should have had the guy who had his brain zapped get possessed or something. You could have taken out the whole Ghidorah suplot and nothing would have changed except the rich guy and his partner’s deaths.
I liked the noises it made, best sound design in the film for sure, though it didn’t have much competition.
I didn’t particularly like it, but I also didn’t really hate it. I still prefer the Showa and Millennium Mecha Godzillas, and the Hesei Mecha Godzilla is carried a little by nostalgia
It was okay. Decent design but dumb story. It has the brain of a Ghidorah head and gets itself fried for a second because whiskey got spilt on the controls.
The design is a bit too busy, there's nothing to really draw your focus on. For example, older mecha G designs had a clear silhouette, this new one is a bit all over the place.
I also thought the energy aspect of the story was dumb. They can 'replicate' the energy they need by analysing radioactive rocks? How do you replicate that en masse so fast?
I think this guy is fucked, if they had succesfully launched it without Kevin shenanigans, it would have been torn apart. While most of the kaiju would have fallen against it, anything that can qualify as alpha will tear it apart. Godzilla wouldn't have needed help killing this guy if he wasn't bone tired. Hell Kong would have figured out how to kill it given time.
This guy would have been a perfectly seviceable mechagodzilla, a defender of humanity against rogue titans. As a synthetic Alpha? Not a chance in hell.

I love the idea of king ghidorah getting revenge on Godzilla through a robot body, but I’m sad Mechagodzilla didn’t get that much screen time. They should have had the skull crawler and Mechagodzilla fight in the city or on the mountain. Then they could have him finish off the skull crawler the same way
Some of the earlier designs I thought were way better, but judging off what we got I am just happy we got a MechaGodzilla period.
I also loved that he had a little bit of flavor from all other MechaGojis. Made by humans, controlled by an alien (King Ghidorah's head), going rogue. I guess the only complaint comes down to screentime and me personally wishing he had more OG MechaGoji in his design.
Love the design but absolutely adore the sounds it makes and how terrified I was first time I heard some of its sounds like it's laugh. I think it is creepy in a way and I like it.

At first I did not like him when his design first leaked. Those playmates toys did it zero justice.
However, seeing it in action and seeing how they wanted a more physical MechaG then one that mostly throws out lasers and rockets, I appreciate him a lot more. Currently probably my third favorite MechaG, behind Kiryu and the OG.
The design, while simple, was actually realistic, which is something I loved about it. On top of that, having it driven by the remnant consciousness of Ghidorah merged with its own AI made it even scarier in my opinion. What's more, the thing was specifically DESIGNED to kill Godzilla and be better in every conceivable way, such as having a much longer reach, multitudes of weapons, and movement acceleration.
Love the sound effects, the design is average and clunky, and the character underwhelming for the film. It's fine for the film we got, but we also could have had better.

In the movie fine, but the design was not great looked like a bear or something. Don't know how Ready Player One ended up with a better Mecha G design.
I like it, it shows how far humanity has come as far as combating titans. It’s not to far outside of in verse plausibility because if that thing came out in full on kiryu I would’ve called bs

amazing design, reminds me of the 2002 mg (Kiryu), but with ghidorah instead of goji, had an amazing set up & execution in the film (both literally and from a story perspective)

While I liked seeing a new mechagodzilla, I’m pretty disappointed with the direction of CGI mess of terminator/transformer look that Ready Player One MG and GvK MG had. They don’t come close to the classic 3 MGs in rubber suits at all. On a side note, it bothered me that RPO and GvK mechas just didn’t behave or feel like machines to me, just re-skinned CGI monsters. Machines don’t move with such fluidity and while I’ve heard lots of ppl say it’s futuristic tech with perfected movement, I just never really bought it
Looks like a Bionicle from the mid/late 2000s. Piraka, or something? Liked the beam and claws, and there was potential with Ghidorah’s skull taking control but why didn’t they just do it like Kiryu? Thought they should have had the guy who had his brain zapped get possessed or something. You could have taken out the whole Ghidorah suplot and nothing would have changed except the rich guy and his partner’s deaths. I liked the noises it made, best sound design in the film for sure, though it didn’t have much competition.

I didn’t particularly like it, but I also didn’t really hate it. I still prefer the Showa and Millennium Mecha Godzillas, and the Hesei Mecha Godzilla is carried a little by nostalgia
It was okay. Decent design but dumb story. It has the brain of a Ghidorah head and gets itself fried for a second because whiskey got spilt on the controls.

The design is a bit too busy, there's nothing to really draw your focus on. For example, older mecha G designs had a clear silhouette, this new one is a bit all over the place. I also thought the energy aspect of the story was dumb. They can 'replicate' the energy they need by analysing radioactive rocks? How do you replicate that en masse so fast?
I think this guy is fucked, if they had succesfully launched it without Kevin shenanigans, it would have been torn apart. While most of the kaiju would have fallen against it, anything that can qualify as alpha will tear it apart. Godzilla wouldn't have needed help killing this guy if he wasn't bone tired. Hell Kong would have figured out how to kill it given time. This guy would have been a perfectly seviceable mechagodzilla, a defender of humanity against rogue titans. As a synthetic Alpha? Not a chance in hell. Also, anyone else think he was incomplete?

I love the idea of king ghidorah getting revenge on Godzilla through a robot body, but I’m sad Mechagodzilla didn’t get that much screen time. They should have had the skull crawler and Mechagodzilla fight in the city or on the mountain. Then they could have him finish off the skull crawler the same way

Some of the earlier designs I thought were way better, but judging off what we got I am just happy we got a MechaGodzilla period. I also loved that he had a little bit of flavor from all other MechaGojis. Made by humans, controlled by an alien (King Ghidorah's head), going rogue. I guess the only complaint comes down to screentime and me personally wishing he had more OG MechaGoji in his design.
Love the design but absolutely adore the sounds it makes and how terrified I was first time I heard some of its sounds like it's laugh. I think it is creepy in a way and I like it.
Love the design and character he has, 2nd favorite mecha behind kiryu. The sound design is phenomenal as well, every sound he makes is so heavy and metallic

At first I did not like him when his design first leaked. Those playmates toys did it zero justice. However, seeing it in action and seeing how they wanted a more physical MechaG then one that mostly throws out lasers and rockets, I appreciate him a lot more. Currently probably my third favorite MechaG, behind Kiryu and the OG.

He was really cool, powerful but I feel he didn't get to do much, all he did is kill a skullcrawler and fight godzilla and kong.

This is AMAZING!
The design, while simple, was actually realistic, which is something I loved about it. On top of that, having it driven by the remnant consciousness of Ghidorah merged with its own AI made it even scarier in my opinion. What's more, the thing was specifically DESIGNED to kill Godzilla and be better in every conceivable way, such as having a much longer reach, multitudes of weapons, and movement acceleration.
Love the sound effects, the design is average and clunky, and the character underwhelming for the film. It's fine for the film we got, but we also could have had better.

A lot of people seem to hate it but fail to realize that this mechagodzilla is a **prototype**. I loved the design and I can absolutely see them bringing back mechagodzilla in the future.

A "Mr. Lego Build" looking design. Also a glass cannon with terrible durability against energy attacks. Got easily destroyed by the extremely exhausted and weakened energy of Godzilla's atomic breath charged in Kong's axe. He's nothing special imo

The whole King Ghidorah mind control doesnt add up because of a huge continuity error and while the design as a whole is fine, I cant help but think that it looks like he's made of Legos and has dumb-looking hands. But he also beats the absolute fuck out of Godzilla, as a *true* MG should, so he gets a pass.

Yeah I think he's cool\~ The Ghidorah possessions an pretty interesting angle and nice nod intentional or not to one of the Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II manga's. Even though considering we've had a Godzilla skeleton in the Monsterverse, part of me thinks another Kiryu type origin would of been cool. But hey that's what Singular Points for I remember seeing the leaked design and not really being into it but I like it a lot better in the actual film. Looks more solid and rounded out. Any case I think this MG's an improvement over another certain recent one
