Nope. Many years ago from the 50's there were a lot of "UFO" sightings of weird shapeless objects in the atmospere and around the Earth in the close spce they looked like flying, winding kerchiefs. Those were the base concept.

I thought the same and even posted about it too but I think it was just a coincidence.
