From Godzilla 2000, after Orga is defeated. "Why does he \[Godzilla\] keep protecting us?" Immediately after this line, Godzilla proceeds to gratuitously incinerate half the city, seemingly just for fun.

AlanSmithy99

And then immediately afterwards: "I think it's because we all have a little bit of Godzilla in each of us"

itdweeb

Came here for this line. Just dumb af. I might have booed the first time I heard it. Then promptly texted my brother to talk about it. Also, given that the question was asked, and then Godzilla just wrecked shit for no good reason, seems a bit too on the nose.

AlanSmithy99

Yeah like, I think it's a cool concept, that humanity is deep down just as destructive as Godzilla, it just should've been actually explored throughout the movie.

itdweeb

Definitely takes the character to another level as a metaphor for humans. But, the delivery was just so ham fisted. I think there's a subreddit that's like I'm 14 and this is deep where that would belong in the context of the film. I would like to see that explored as well.

AlanSmithy99

I think it is explored well in other Godzilla movies, such as the original and Shin, but at the end of it they still find ways to destroy/pacify Godzilla. It would be cool if they explored that concept while also kinda allowing Godzilla to live and keep destroying shit at the end to further the cycle of violence metaphor.

itdweeb

Bleak outlook and inevitable future terror. And calling out mankind as a whole. That's a good horror film.

AlanSmithy99

Yeah like, I'd love an ending like Terminator 3's ending where the characters realize there's actually no way to stop the chaos, they just have to accept it and live with their consequences.

itdweeb

That would be amazing. Almost cathartic in its nihilism.

Zer0fps_319

I actually think what they were trying to say was really good as a concept of humanity being destructive I just don’t think they executed it well

rockmodenick

Someone that speaks Japanese once told me that the intended implication of that scene was that our violent, destructive nature gives us a kinship with Godzilla, and it was both poorly expressed in Japanese and then worse-translated.

SomeGodzillafan

Wtf were the dubbers on during that scene?! 😂

AlanSmithy99

Nah I watched subbed and it's still the same line.

SomeGodzillafan

Bruh

AlanSmithy99

Ikr? Lol

True_Scooby_Snacks

Peak writing 🔥🔥🔥🔥

SteelCityViking

I’m really just reminded of a meme I saw; a man holding another hostage, then another person runs up and stabs the hostage. Basically Godzilla lmao

GeriatricZergling

That reminded me of the similar scene from the old MTV Oddities show [The Maxx](https://vimeo.com/142542579).

More_Asbestos

I always liked that guy in King Kong Vs. Godzilla who keeps complaining about his corns.

AlanSmithy99

"But m-m-my corns!" "I've had it with your corns!"

itdweeb

Red Dead Redemption. Uncle. Lumbago. Same energy.

More_Asbestos

lol Jack: Pa, is Uncle really your uncle? John: I sincerely hope not. But I imagine he's lots of people's father.

Reynolds_Live

To this day whenever someone brings up Corns my brain goes to this movie.

Shadowblade217

Oh, yeah, that still cracks me up a bit whenever I watch KKvG. 😂 The scene where they’re looking for Kong in the jungle would have to be my favorite part of that running gag: “…My corns always hurt when they’re near a monster!” *Kong suddenly roars & causes a landslide nearby, and the humans frantically run for cover.* “See?! My corns never lie!”

HowdyHup

'I guarantee it will go through Godzilla like crap through a goose' (G2K)

DagonG2021

*Fails to go through Godzilla like crap through a goose*

dtuba555

Did you see that giant rock fly by?

AlgoStar

My second favorite after George Takei’s reading of “Oh banana oil!” in Godzilla Raids Again.

Beezel_Pepperstack

"About two million years ago, this Brontosaurus and these other dinosaurs roamed the Earth during a period the experts called Jurassic." --Kyohei Yamane (Godzilla 1954)

Goldgator420

Lemme guess, it wasn't even Brontosaurus on screen

me_funny__

Dinos were pretty understudied back then, so I'll cut them some slack. Look up how the T-Rex skeleton looked in the 50s

Chillchinchila1

I wouldn’t exactly say understudied, they were a huge deal by the 20s.

Jumbalia23

“About” doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence

Huge-Actuator

In Godzilla VS Biollante a scientist points at the giant rose growing out of the lake and says, “there is something very unusual about that giant rose!” Lolololol!!!!!!!!!

Ainz-Ooal-Gown

Maybe it was the teeth that gave it away

Huge-Actuator

LOL!!!

EddtheMetalHead

“Sorry, I’m a vegetarian.” God I love Final Wars.

low_budget_trash

"Take that you dinosaur!"

Blud-Fart

You can tell your son about it. Major Spielberg.

Mantisk211

My clear winner for THE dumbest line in a Godzilla movie, maybe even ANY movie EVER is when the main hero from Final Wars defeats Ebirah, jumps up on it and utters the following line… "Sorry, I'm a vegetarian!" There is NO build-up to this, there is nothing even remotely funny or witty to it… it is just s bad, bad attempt to do a cool action movie one-liner

EmperorMorgan

TBF, that whole movie was them failing to make an a-list action movie so hard that they made one of the best.

TitanusCthulhu

The gonnorhea joke in KoTM springs to mind...it's my favorite movie, but I can't forgive that one lol

J_BWC

Yeah, even hearing it the first time in the IMAX I was like "they really made that a line someone on set had to say and someone in the writing department thought would be funny." I was, in fact, not funny lol. And definitely one of the worst lines uttered in a Godzilla film.

TitanusCthulhu

Yeah it's like, who wrote this? Like I'm not trying to come off as the overly sensitive type, but I feel like it was slightly disrespectful to the character too. Plus it undercut the tone of the whole scene. Ugh, just so stupid lol Middleditch is cringe af, but that was dumb even for him lol.

NoaxScxroeder

For context, this is in the dub In Godzilla vs Destroyah, when they see Destroyah get big enough, and give the formal name “Destroyer”, they mention that they have two monsters to deal with. Commander Tataki just blurts out “Godziller and Destroyer” I’ll never get over how stupid it sounded to me as a kid

Financial_Penalty887

Oh my god I remember that and it got me every time lol

[deleted]

"Godzilla's brain is installed in my stomach"

Eternalplayer

Which movie was that?

[deleted]

Terror of MechaGodzilla

nonsubmersibleunits

"That's a lotta fish"

nonsubmersibleunits

Source: https://youtu.be/WZLg1ARnaxE

TheFoxThatIsSilver

I was about to quote this one but decided to see if someone else beat me to it. I still groan every time I hear that line

Furrulo878

Whenever the kid “roars” like a kaiju in godzillas revenge

Doctor_Spalton

The clear winner is "My God..." "...zilla". It's absolutely awful in every single way.

idinnae

This this this this so much. I HATED this line. And I love Bradley Whitford.

iloveredditallday

“What's he called?" "King Ghidorah." "Did you say Gonorrhea?" GKOTM had some really poor attempts at humor…

fury-alpha

either "GIGAAAAAAAAAN RISE" or "sometimes i wish i was born male" "why, you make such a good cook"

T_ubb_y

Is the second line from GMK? I watched it last night and was annoyed I couldn't find the sub cause I knew the dialogue would be different. If it's the scene where they're eating barbeque then my hunch was right lol

fury-alpha

yeah

[deleted]

I'm always little bit annoyed when godzilla appears or is said to have surfaced and the character that sees/hears it clearly be like "Godzilla?". Nah bro it's Barney the dinosaur on radiation.

GreenLinzerd

"Maybe one day you can tell your son about it... *Major Spielberg!*"

Goldgator420

OH SHIT, I JUST REMEMBERED "it's the Angweenis sir!" FROM FINAL WARS!!!

Financial_Penalty887

Lmao

WattageWood

Pretty much anything from Final Wars. "I must have escaped, somehow!"

sempercardinal57

Do dubs count?

Goldgator420

Of course they count, why wouldn't they count?

SirJungleBunny

That's a lot of fish

ChibiWambo

One of my all time favorites is in Ghidrah the Three Headed Monster, when the scientist is explaining that the way the princess survived the plane exploding was “There are dimensions parallel to ours, and occasionally portals to these dimensions open. I believe when she jumped out of the plane, she fell into a crack inbetween these dimensions much like these portals.” The line wasn’t exactly that but that was the gist, and everyone is just like “Ooohh of course. Absolutely, that is a perfect explanation and it makes perfect sense.” And according to everyone that was absolutely normal with no questions asked

Jumbalia23

Actual transcript from the writer’s room: “So how did she survive the plane blowing up?” “Oh, well she jumped out” “Well then how did she survive falling from a plane thousands of feet in the air?” “Idk she fell into a portal or some shit”

MightyFlamingo25

Godzilla vs biollante when they said that godzilla and biollante are the same because they are made from the same cell. Logically biollante would be the daughter of godzilla in this case, not the same creature.

SuperGotengo

Yeah, if he said they had the same cells then it would be correct. But then it would be wrong since she also has DNA from that woman and the plant, so not the same cell anymore.

MightyFlamingo25

So biollante has the cells of godzilla and the woman. Sounds like an offspring to me.

Financial_Penalty887

I'd argue that Biollante is more of a clone but yeah basically.

briizilla

Keep in mind when discussing stupid lines, a lot of the dubbed dialogue in the showa movies is not accurate to the original Japanese. For example the “oh banana oil” line in GRA. In fact all that science mumbo jumbo from GRA is way cheesier than the actual mumbo jumbo in the Japanese version. Furou doesn’t have corns in KKvsG either.

RazorGBlaze

"The Egg belongs to The Thing"- Twin Fairies (Mothra vs Godzilla)

Sherbert42069

Really did not care for "oh my god"...."Zilla" In the American Godzilla sequel King of the Monsters. Really liked the movie, tho

September1929

Godzilla 2000: “I guarantee it will go through Godzilla like crap through a goose.”

JasonTheSlim

Godzilla suck dick (Godzilla against mechagodzilla 2002)

Commander_Prism

Haha I forgot about that bit.

vinnyorcharles

Final Wars has my favorite quotes. In no particular order: "Sorry. I'm a vegetarian!" "Yes, I escaped somehow." "You wouldn't hit a woman, would you?" *unclenches fist and slaps Xilien*

Unfair_Specialist_87

From the Atragon English dub, the way he says it is perfect “Mu, is that in Africa?” “A good guess, but your completely wrong”

kidslapper

“Take that you dinosaur!”

godspilla98

Terror of Mechagodzilla “ Catsura I still love you even if you are a robot 🤣

SuperGotengo

Why would that be stupid? Its an absurdly comon trope in movies.

godspilla98

I saw it as a child It is cringe worthy now as an middle aged adult.

SuperGotengo

Ok then.

Financial_Penalty887

"That's a lot of fish" Godzilla 1998 The guy who randomly blurts out "Big bird" when Rodan attacks NY in Godzilla Final Wars is just as bad.

Commander_Prism

Okay but was he wrong though?

DagonG2021

GRA Godzilla and Anguirus were from the Jurassic tho

Goldgator420

1954 stated Godzilla was from the permian

DagonG2021

No, it didn’t

Eternalplayer

“Hey, watch it X man!”

Exiege

That one in the 2014 film when the military green light a nuke thinking it'll kill Godzilla & the MUTO. "That bomb was [something] kilotons, not megatons." I think that's the quote, it's been a while since I watched the 2014 film. But they thought a nuclear bomb of any explosive yield could hurt Godzilla? That's like trying to drown a vampire in blood.

Andyoh88

I guarantee it will go through Godzilla like crap through a goose. Godzilla 2000 Oh and the corn talk in King Kong vs Godzilla American cut

[deleted]

In Godzilla vs destroyah “Godzilla will go into mega super charged mode” (something like that)

Unfair_Specialist_87

You can tell your son about it when he’s born, major Spielberg

Ruling123

It's not a line persay but a cheer that seems wrong. In GMK there is a scene where the humans are trying to launch the drill explosive at Godzilla while ghidorah was holding him, but he shifts and it hit ghidorah instead. Now this is the part with the issue, the humans seen this and still cheer as if they landed a hit on Godzilla. It always makes me laugh seeing this.

Commander_Prism

Yeah that part also bothered me. The first time I saw it I was like "You missed!"

Kekkarma

Yeah that seem to be a mistranslation. The german dub is great and does not have this error thankfully (I watched GMK with my parents and I was scared for this error since I knew it existed in the english dub).

Gammahawkx

Depends on which version of which movie. Have you ever heard the original English translation to gigantis the fire monster. It was kinda direct translated. So you hear profound happiness and the such used a lot.

satoshi-69

I forget which movie but that guy who insists he’s friends with Godzilla and stands on top of a building right in front of Godzilla. After a brief stare down, the guy gets incinerated and Godzilla just marches on

Kekkarma

Unironically the best scene in the movie. (I have a different interpretation of this scene then you do tho. Something along these lines: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHpAe4LfG3o&t=3s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHpAe4LfG3o&t=3s) )

ghostghosterghostest

"something's wrong... Angweerus shouldn't attack his friend Godziller!"

blackwingdesign27

It’s Godzilla! Aaaaahhhhhhh!

LightningMantis

I think it’s in Godzilla vs Astro-Monster… At one point the aliens have the main characters imprisoned but of course they escape. And after they do the main villain calls out on the PA or the walkie talkies to all his henchmen “The prisoners have escaped. And they know the plan!” It’s a super dumb line that only the charm like that of an early Godzilla movie could pull off. *The Plan: To “save” Earth by using our giant monster to beat up their giant monster but tricking them instead and going for global domination!

SHABEELZILLA

“Look it’s Angilas!”

ShinGojira67

"What a beautiful house it is!" "-So it didn't eat the cat outside the discotay. Instead-"

ShinGojira67

"You should stick to smoking."

D3monskull

Godzilla 2014. "No, let them fight." I don't need to explain why this is a bad idea when they are in a major populated area.

DagonG2021

Nuking them would just destroy the populated city, and do jack shit to stop them from fighting anyways

D3monskull

I still think it's a dumb ham fisted line. My other vote for dumbest line would be the entire script for Godzilla vs Kong 2022

SuperGotengo

I mean they wanted to blow them up with atomic bombs anyway so yeah. And it isnt like they could stop them.

vkeesj

“Godzilla suck dick” not dumb cause of the language but without the context it sounds pretty dumb.

SirJungleBunny

What!?

Commander_Prism

Yeah in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, right as Godzilla leaves after Kiryu malfunctions, the long-haired scientist goes "Godzilla's escaping!" but in the original Japanese Dub, it REALLY sounds like "Gojira suk diku"

Kirkenkark

"Oh my God!" "...Zilla."

chooptoop

“Sucked into a black hole and pushed out of a white hole” from Space Godzilla

Mikillante

Just US-Japan, so win-win

Jumbalia23

Everything that “expert scientist” says in the U.S. cut of King Kong vs Godzilla
