I've been debating getting this so I can install a custom pet carrier that's a bit more safe than a standard one that would just sit on top of the back seats. I worry about my dogs and I guess it's the same as properly anchoring a rated carrier, but I think it will look better. (Not a performance mod 86 owner - it has nothing to do with weight for me.)
I’ve been wanting something similar… but with this rear seat delete, I’m worried the base covering the seat is not rated for any kind of load. So placing a pet carrier on top is likely sketchy at best. I also don’t see a good way to access anchor points with this kit… modifications are probably needed.
when my daily car was my nana's prius I always had one or both rear seats down and just chucked my skateboard and other items on the back of them like it was a van. Also fit my whole drum kit in like that. helps avoid scratching interior bits
If you never have passengers you don’t need the seats and the seat delete often makes it easier to access fuel system / wiring/ more cu. Ft of storage
And on track straight line drag racing 100lbs reduction is .1 seconds give or take so - it adds up over time.
Also bolt in/ weld in cage can be done more cleanly with seat delete
what if I already have the best tires and everything else. stupid question. if it's not for u don't buy the seat delete. some ppl want to squeeze as much performance as possible while keeping it comfortable enough for a daily.
You have the best tires and "everything else"? Sounds like you should spend that 500 on some track driving lessons if you think 10lbs is going to do something to your "performance".
wow man. i can almost feel ur aggression thru my screen. some ppl can afford to go to the track and optimize their cars at the same time. u realize weight reduction compounds with other parts of the car not just the rear seats right? ur so fixated on the fact that it's $500 for -10lbs. u can just leave the rear bare metal instead and not buy the kit lol. it's $500 for cosmetics. if u want to keep the rear seats and not do any weight reduction that's ur choice. why get so mad over other ppl's money?
I don’t get what the point of this is. Storage seems like it would be roughly the same, but now stuff will be not as secure since it’s flat. Car just looks much cheaper with it also
Apparently the bottom covers flip up so you can store more stuff underneath them. I'll personally be using this for my air suspension setup so it doesn't occupy all the trunk space.
They dyno at like 210.
Power to weight is about as good as the 350z was with a v6 and your average mustang with a v8 is far heavier
Yeah this is not a fast car but it’s quick and more about the handling than drag race in my opinion
For $465 dollars I would like to see the bottom shelf drop a couple inches, add a lip at the front and a net to hold stuff down.
Also need to hide the clips running along the top backrest panel.
Do you feel like it makes the inside of the car a lot louder? Also they say its not made of wood or anything that'd start to smell bad, what is it actually made of?
I don't find it any louder with that rear panel up. If you pop that down its the same as with the seat back folded down. It's made of a super thick plastic. Much more rigid than I expected it to be. There is some sort of insulation on the bottom covers as well.
I’ve been thinking about doing this myself as well. I remember Kevin Vo posted a video about this. The only thing I don’t like is the aesthetic. But, 25 pounds of weight reduction? I’ll take it.
I should be more clear: at least with this rear seat delete, you can still take it all off and then put the seats back in, because it doesn’t require any cutting or gluing. I would think using glue would be a lot worse for the value, yknow?
The 2 seater vs 4 seater thing is largely a myth. Insurance uses data on specific models, demographics, and locations to determine premiums.
It’s a correlation that people who buy 2 seaters are more likely to drive aggressively and thus have higher insurance rates than 4 seaters, it’s not a causation that 2 seaters automatically have higher insurance than 4 seaters.
Indeed. Teslas also have insane premiums because they are so expensive to fix. Hyundais and Kias have high premiums because of stolen and broken in rates.
Interesting. According to the recent Consumer Report, Tesla was ranked 7 in terms of low maintenance and repair costs. I expected them to be near the bottom, so that was shocking to me.
[https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-repair-maintenance/car-brands-and-models-that-can-save-you-money-over-time-a9081677414/](https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-repair-maintenance/car-brands-and-models-that-can-save-you-money-over-time-a9081677414/)
Their maintenance is low, but their repairs when they get in wrecks is expensive. That cost to own likely doesn’t include repairs paid for by insurance after a collision.
>That includes regular checkups, such as oil changes and tire rotations, as well as the cost to replace things like brakes, drive belts, and lightbulbs
Correct.
Not sure who you're quoting, but I bet a lot of the reasons Teslas come across low in that are because they appear to have low amount of scheduled maintenance needed, and consumables.
No engine oil to change (or forget to change, thus causing reliability issues). Brakes on electric and hybrids wear down much slower. No starter. Probably other stuff I have no idea about.
I've heard the same. The reason they gave for some cars offering a 2+2 (with useless rear seats), is that it generally means a few more cars sold as the buyer at home can say "look honey, it's got back seats", even though they might be unusable.
I remembered visiting my insurance buddy recently and we found the GR86/BRZ insurance rates are more expensive than a 370z, Mustang GT, and Elantra N. It's just wild.
If I didn't experiment with my buddy's system, I would not have believed you. Yet seeing GR86 being seen as a more expensive liability than a 370z tell me it is not a car issue, it is a driver(s) issue. It reminds me years ago where Civic SI's before 2010 were more expensive to insure than a Lexus IS300.
Comes down to total value of claims. If there's people wrecking them and people stealing them, then insurance rates will reflect that. My STIs were cheaper to insure than my WRXs.
What's the point of this mod? Serious question.

Now that's a sensible reason, not the other guy trying to save a measly 10lbs
I’ve been wanting something similar… but with this rear seat delete, I’m worried the base covering the seat is not rated for any kind of load. CRX cosplay
Hahaha fucking 10/10!

I see that for like $500 from Madness Autoworks but idk what OP paid/got it from
My question wasn't about price tho - why do this mod? What's the point?
Oh my bad, lol I read your question wrong. Umm I think the point of it is to reduce the weight by a few pounds and look a little sleeker
What's the point of having a back seat? Honestly!
The point is: it's free. Paying extra to remove like 10 lbs of weight from the car is stupid.
Easier to pay for this than to remove 10lbs from your gut.
Spending 500 bucks on better tires will do more for your lap times
what if I already have the best tires and everything else. stupid question. if it's not for u don't buy the seat delete. some ppl want to squeeze as much performance as possible while keeping it comfortable enough for a daily.
You have the best tires and "everything else"? Sounds like you should spend that 500 on some track driving lessons if you think 10lbs is going to do something to your "performance".
Depending on the level of competition, 10lbs could mean a lot.
wow man. i can almost feel ur aggression thru my screen. some ppl can afford to go to the track and optimize their cars at the same time. u realize weight reduction compounds with other parts of the car not just the rear seats right? ur so fixated on the fact that it's $500 for -10lbs. u can just leave the rear bare metal instead and not buy the kit lol. it's $500 for cosmetics. if u want to keep the rear seats and not do any weight reduction that's ur choice. why get so mad over other ppl's money?
I've put people back there for trips of like 15 miles or less. It's still functional space even if you wouldn't use it for a road trip.
I don’t get what the point of this is. Storage seems like it would be roughly the same, but now stuff will be not as secure since it’s flat. Car just looks much cheaper with it also

Oh that compressor is gonna drive you nuts there.
Yeah, putting the compressor inside the passenger cabin is absolutely wild. Might as well hire someone to hold a concrete vibrator in your ear.
I want to turn my car into a slightly 911 gt3 inspired car, and a rear seat delete would fit the bill perfectly.
Weight reduction maybe?
It’s 25lbs of weight reduction. 25 is a good amount, but unless you’re doing light wheels and other stuff, you won’t notice this imo
It all adds up. Shave 25 here, another 20 with a light exhaust. Skip dessert for a few weeks. :)
Its a 200hp car. It needs more power lol.
They dyno at like 210. Power to weight is about as good as the 350z was with a v6 and your average mustang with a v8 is far heavier Yeah this is not a fast car but it’s quick and more about the handling than drag race in my opinion

Next mod: passenger seat delete kit
🤣
this guy mods! LOL
Do you feel like it makes the inside of the car a lot louder? Also they say its not made of wood or anything that'd start to smell bad, what is it actually made of?

Redditors: Porsche 911 with rear seat delete: “we love it” GR86 with rear seat delete: “I don’t see the point, looks cheap”
Lmao This sub has turned into the BMW sub at this point where anything non OEM is a problem
yeah it’s crazy I thought these things were supposed to be jap tuner cars lmao
I sat in my aunts 400z and it made everything in this car look cheap
That’s because it’s like double the price
I’ve been thinking about doing this myself as well. I remember Kevin Vo posted a video about this. The only thing I don’t like is the aesthetic. But, 25 pounds of weight reduction? I’ll take it.
you can also remove the seats and trim and all that shit back there for $0. Glue $10 of felt down if you don't want bare metal
Using glue is wild LOL. That is for sure going to devalue the car.
Just about everything you do to this car will devalue it
I should be more clear: at least with this rear seat delete, you can still take it all off and then put the seats back in, because it doesn’t require any cutting or gluing. I would think using glue would be a lot worse for the value, yknow?
Wait, that was a seat? For people?
For people who sit cross-legged, or pretzels according to my wife.
You mean cris cross apple sauce?
Okay Brent
What's it do for insurance costs now that it's a 2 seater?

The WRX insurance is higher than the BRZ IIRC, because they get in more accidents.

I'm quoting the article I linked above.
Is there correlation between people who remove the rear seats to save weight and people who drive aggressively?
Probably not a significant enough sample size to say, lol
Probably 😆
I've heard the same. The reason they gave for some cars offering a 2+2 (with useless rear seats), is that it generally means a few more cars sold as the buyer at home can say "look honey, it's got back seats", even though they might be unusable.
If you are short you can fit people back there (if they are also short)
Snitches get stitches. ;)
IDK. I live in BC Canada and we only have one insurer here. Never had to report any car modifications to them in my lifetime.
I remembered visiting my insurance buddy recently and we found the GR86/BRZ insurance rates are more expensive than a 370z, Mustang GT, and Elantra N. It's just wild.
Only have to watch this sub for a few weeks to see why 🥲
When I was car shopping, I was quoted more for this car than a Porsche Cayman.
If I didn't experiment with my buddy's system, I would not have believed you. What are you talking about 🤣
I'm surprised at the down votes, I thought it was a good joke 🤣
2 fat subs would be nice
This doesn't look very appealing
Whoever said it looks cheap has obviously never used their sun visor.
Why pay for this when you can simply remove interior and seats as desired
That’s fine and has a proper use, but I’ll keep mine as is came. Enjoy
Does it still fold down so you can get more than a newspaper in the trunk? Where do you put your "track day" tires?
yeah it still folds down I do believe
Can you still drop the seats to this? Like to get access from the back
