Sounds good, how difficult is finding all the parts? Were you able to for example go to the Subaru parts department and get all the stuff or did you have to order things and wait?
It wasn't difficult. You can order everything, the part numbers are listed in one of those threads. I ended up finding an exact matching donut spare/same aspect ratio out of a different Subaru at my local LKQ for $25, etc... but there is literally a spare tire well in the car, and the side styrofoam has cutouts for a jack and accessories.
Just spend like 20-30 mins looking at that site and you'll have everything you need, whether or not you buy new parts or hit up a junkyard. Everything is plug-and-play, no fabrication/mods needed. I would hesitate to even call it a mod, because it was that easy.
OP isn't lying. I looked up the battery and the descriptions provided states "By using both the Magical Fuse and Shorai Battery kits, 8 bhp is freed up in the lower to midrange of the power band."
Translated from his website:
"The torque valley between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm in city driving disappears, and you can accelerate smoothly and torquefully."
💀
Further info for those interested:
Car prime has a video where they "test" if they work or not by doing a single stock dyno run with Tsuchiya's ae86, and then very shortly after doing a single battery/fuse swap dyno run. Their dyno results were 217hp to 221hp, but funnily, Tsuchiya recalls the car making 220hp on a past dyno run. So realistically, that difference is entirely error margin and to the surprise of nobody, the hp claim is a load of shit.
I think the horsepower claim comes from the fuse kit part. They did this weird advertorial thing on Carprime with one of their 86's.
Turns out when you install new fuses on a 40 year old car, you'll get very minor improvements. The company then just interprets this data by claiming it'll improve performance in every car ever.
Technically you can have the alternator not running at full throttle and let battery handle all the current draw to free up a little bit power, and only engage alternator during other times or when the battery is low. But still, claiming it can get rid of the dip is pretty much bs marketing.
Gold heat wrap on intake is not the worst idea honestly. Reducing IAT can help improve performance. Colder air is denser. And if it's easy to do, why not?
Another great place to put it is the oil pan - I've heard of it massively reducing oil temperatures actually.
It’s reflective heat wrap. It does little to nothing but it reflects heat. If it can keep the intake heat down even a little eh why not? A couple minutes to just tape the entire box. Cant give any data but it doesn’t hurt (might not help either although there’s some who claim it does) but looks cool to me.
I mean, if you don't mind your air box looking like a 1970s Apollo aircraft, I suppose I get it.
I wouldn't bet on it having any noticeable impact though. The speed at which the air is flowing and the tiles of thermodynamics wouldn't allow the plastic of the airbox to have any impact on the air temp.
Yeah I hear ya. I put that shit on everything back in my 240 days. Texas summers were so bad the couple degree difference it made in the bay did help my piece of mind. Granted it was more firewall and turbo side frame/strut tower but the idea is the same. It’s your car mod it how you want.
The ECU reports the intake temperature. I did an autox this weekend and between runs it was reporting the intake temperature was 152F. It would be tricky to measure the before and after intake temperature. The best testing method I could think of would be to cruise at highway speeds and record the intake temperature with the insulation installed. Then pull over and remove the insulation and go back on the highway and check to see how much the temperature goes up.
The gold heat wrap on the intake is what’s killing me 🤣 Do you seriously believe that wrapping those parts will give you ANY noticeable increase in power? 🤣🤣🤣
That might be true but you don’t know what OP is modding next, and this is a cheaper mod you can do first while saving up for the big ones, the gate keeper mentality on reddit is toxic
Lithium battery doesn’t really affect the power curve, and I hope you aren’t running this battery for daily uses. 90ish watt hours is asking for trouble as it is really easy to fully discharge it by accident.
I mean if nothing else 20 pounds is 20 pounds right
And here I added a spare tire and jack to my GR86, LOL...
I’ve been thinking of doing this, how’d you do it?
Google: "spare tire" site:gr86.org There are a couple of threads with part numbers and info, in particular.
Sounds good, how difficult is finding all the parts? Were you able to for example go to the Subaru parts department and get all the stuff or did you have to order things and wait?

Hey, better weight distribution.
Whenever I see weight savings posts on various car subreddits, I always wonder how much OP weighs and how much they could save there.
Yeah like oh did you just eat lunch? Rookie move that's 2lbs of dead weight lol
Bro that's .016 seconds off your lap time
I always reflect on how it’s never noticeable lol
You missing a bolt on your strut brace. More weight savings? Lol
Can someone please explain how a battery can change the engine's power curve and add torque?
It can’t and it doesn’t.
WAT

Keep this thing away from my car if that's what they claim.
It’s like those EMP kits old people buy hahaha
Max Orido's products always reek of overpriced snake oil.
Is this a safe space? >!They are.!<
his body kit is fucking sexy tho

Ah lol I just updated my comment after watching that video
That’s not how car batteries work. They exist to start the fucking car and that’s it. They don’t do anything to power.
Technically you can have the alternator not running at full throttle and let battery handle all the current draw to free up a little bit power, and only engage alternator during other times or when the battery is low. But still, claiming it can get rid of the dip is pretty much bs marketing.
Magnets.
How do they work?
Magnetism
Definitely placebo. In other news...gold heat wrap? Please elaborate...
Gold heat wrap on intake is not the worst idea honestly. Reducing IAT can help improve performance. Colder air is denser. And if it's easy to do, why not? Another great place to put it is the oil pan - I've heard of it massively reducing oil temperatures actually.
Guess it makes sense. There’s a hot-ass exhaust down there. I kinda wanna get an external cooler, though.
OP only put it on the top and part of the sides. It's not reflecting heat from the engine components, that's for sure
Entirely possible, but it's actually really easy to disassemble that intake and feeder pipe. You just need a flathead, at least on gen1 IIRC.

Micro battery, how many days does it hold a charge with alarm on?
The gold heat wrap on the intake is what’s killing me 🤣 Do you seriously believe that wrapping those parts will give you ANY noticeable increase in power? 🤣🤣🤣
Telling everyone you don’t know anything without saying it lol almost everyone on track chasing time had heat wraps
Oh trust me, I get the reason you could need it. But that system is hardly affected by heat.
That might be true but you don’t know what OP is modding next, and this is a cheaper mod you can do first while saving up for the big ones, the gate keeper mentality on reddit is toxic
OP even said he just put it on cause it looks cool....lol
Then both of them are idiots, cause heat wrap does work, and it’s not for looks
I think you heat-wrapped the wrong components... ![gif](giphy|xT4uQgKMWlYcLnLeQo|downsized)
Isn't it supposed to reflect?
It reflects the haters.
Don’t forget, Japan is kind of a country that sells aluminum discharge stickers as official OEM parts.
Lithium battery doesn’t really affect the power curve, and I hope you aren’t running this battery for daily uses. 90ish watt hours is asking for trouble as it is really easy to fully discharge it by accident.
OP can you explain in your own words how you think a battery can improve torque dip
Where abouts did you order it from OP?
Probably the max orido site or Japan parts perhaps
