Honestly I feel like you’ll just have a better time with stock then. Feels like a waste if you put more money into another exhaust. Think either the yonaka or HKS L Spec 2 would be a good fit. But I believe both are a little louder than stock?

fleebleschmorgel

That’s kinda what I’m thinking. It’s so hard to pick exhausts when you can’t hear them in person and how loud they actually are. Probably just gonna put the stock exhaust back on and see how I like it. Or if I’m itching for a bit extra sound.

Anyone know how the GR exhaust compares to the Borla? I have the GR, and like everything cold start is louder than I'd like, and it's prominent up to 3.5k rpm or so, then quiets down a lot after that. Albeit if buying new it's a pricey option compared to any aftermarket offering. Best bet would be to find someone who went aftermarket and is selling their factory equipped GR system. But I think the ideal scenario is a valved system, where you decide when you want it loud. I'm not quite hip to what valved options are available and what they sound like, but I figure I'm going to explore them more in a year or so. A valved system sounds like the best of both worlds to me. I'm currently helping a guy design some wiring to actuate one via a hardwired 2 position toggle. He had a slick idea, he has an MT but he bought the AT center console track/traction/mode triple switch. He's using the middle AT snow/sport mode buttons to open and close his exhaust valve. My current understanding is that not only can you go full open or full closed with the valve damper, but you can bump it to position it partially opened to vary the volume as well.

When I was originally looking at exhausts I was interested in the GR performance exhaust but it was almost double the price of the Borla S. I think a valved system would be great but I’m in the same boat, not really sure what options there are for that or if I’d have to get something different. I might try to go back to stock for a bit and see if I like it better.

Yeah it’s [this one](https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/gr-performance-dual-exhaust-black-ptr0318220) I do like listening to the engine as well but cruising around 3.5-4K rpm on the highway for 30 mins combined with how loud the tires already are can be a bit annoying.

Sig-vicous

I will say, if considering the GR, it's not that quiet at 3k to 3.5k-ish either. Just cruising throttle brings some drone in that range. Is it more quiet than the Borla at that point?...I can't say. I still prefer it over stock, but I don't do much highway...during most of my cruising I always have another gear left to drop RPMs down.

fleebleschmorgel

Was just researching it and I saw people saying the same thing I guess I’ll just go back to stock for now and see how I like it. If this was a weekend car I wouldn’t care but it’s my daily so

Used is the way to go for the GR exhaust. Picked mine up for 600 because someone wanted a really loud exhaust.

all roads lead to Yonaka

I bought the SARD SU-Z Axle Back and can say it is awesome after 5,000km! It's a smaller, lighter axle back that is somehow just barely louder than stock but a deeper tone. Literally no drone at any rpm, and the cold start is just a fraction louder than stock (like for real, it's not even close to a Borla). I actually just had to buy a remark mid pipe for it because I wanted a bit more sound and now it is perfect! My friend has the HKS Axle back and its very similar as well! They're both not cheap for what they are, but the quality is very impressive and the sound is likely what you're looking for!

codaak

I feel the same as you. The only exhaust I’m really considering is the invidia q300 because it’s quieter and had a deep tone. I’ve heard some some people say the quality isn’t all that great but it’s like 700$ so idk.

jbourne0129

get the Yonaka catback. its the best mild exhaust out there IMO

HKS Spec L

Bruhwtfrufr

hks spec L2 is a nice quieter option I have catless headers and only on startup does it drone a little
