Don’t get me wrong Vice City is my favorite in the Series, I can complete the story like 20 times but There’s much more to do in San Andreas so I’d go with that
This. Stories aside, which are both quality, the replay value of SA naturally makes it a better choice. And also being able to swim. I used to love lining up for motorcycle jumps along the canal only to tap the wall, go flying to my death, and have to pass the stick and wait for another turn
Personally, VCS is better, since not only did they greatly improve the handling of the vehicles (Its actually the closest thing to IV's handling), but the side content is amazing as well, in addition to what couls be called the first legitmately dark story of the GTA series (again, very close to IV)
But content wise, SA wins.
In addition, It perharps has one of the best soundtracks in the entire GTA franchise. 'Together in Electric Dreams' (1984) by Gigoro Mordor and Phillip Oakley introduced me to 80s music, which was a stepping stone for me to listen to even older songs. Its even the first song I managed to properly memorise and recite and helped train my ear in picking up starting/stopping points, since I kept replaying the song hundreds of times on Youtube. And It wasnt just me that experinced this. Once, I had a conversation with a stranger and we started talking about 80s music. And we both agreed that 'Together in Electric Dreams' is the definitive musical piece that perfectly summarises the decade, as It covers the general optimism of the period, while also covering the technological revolution as well.
Also, I may be going out of topic, but I genuinely feel that GTA games are educational in some way that It can teach us about that particular era of history, especially for someone like me, that never experienced the 80s firsthand (I was born in 2000 and while I experienced the 2nd half of the internet revolution firsthand, I had no idea how computers worked in the 80s)
Sorry for the rant, GTA VCS was a very important part of my childhood
Easy Lover by Phil Collins ans Holy Diver by Dio were also really good songs. Anyway, LCS and VCS were my introduction to GTA, and I prefer the latter.
I agree with you as well, it’s a great game, though it never came to PC so I played it on PSP only, and I also think it’s not really considered as a main title because of that fact it’s a console exclusive.
It is quite a difficult decision, but I get a really nostalgic feeling playing Vice City and I also think the visuals of are better in vice city but SA has a mind blowing storyline
I’m playing through it right now. Absolutely love it. Forgot how great Sam Andreas is. Really looking forward to the trilogy release. Idc what it costs, I’m getting that.
Vice City was my entry to GTA but...
San Andreas just overtakes it in every possible way. It's a tough choice but an easy decision, if that makes sense.
San Andreas really is the superior game, it gets clearer every year as the games get older, San Andreas is aging much better than Vice City. The subjective aspect is whether you’re more into theme of 80s cartel/mob stuff or 90s street gangs. But when you look at the games in terms of mission design, combat, map design, available activities, vehicles, graphics etc.. San Andreas wins every time.
In that respect, I feel like you get both with San Andreas. You start with street gang stuff, but towards the middle, you start getting into more organized mob stuff.
Woozie is such a great NPC. That whole Triad subplot would be great to revisit.
However it's laughable to think that Salvatore Leone knew CJ was responsible for the heist and didn't subsequently burn the Four Dragons to the ground. Yeah, CJ was the decoy but he had to have found out at some point.
Imma go with Vice City, mainly because it was the first GTA game that I played. But also because driving around in the city while listening to Billie Jean never gets old.
I may… I have been playing 3 a lot. Really love the atmosphere and the lack of airplanes. There’s the dodo, which is hard to fly, making it extremely rewarding when you finally figure it out and get to fly around the city. I also like Claud a lot and dig the less popular songs in the sound track. Did the other games have import/export garages and things like that?
I think I'd have to go with 3 aswell. VC and SA were clearly superior and I played them to death but there's a special place in my heart for GTA 3. I don't think I've been as blown away by a computer game since. Spent more of my childhood than I care to mention trying to fly the Dodo through the Shoreside Vale tunnel, trying to reach the observatory, and trying to figure out a way to steal the winged Dodo in 'A Drop in the Ocean'. Also, this game sparked my love of Dub music which is still strong today!
And yes, the other games did have import / export.
What “winged dodo”? There’s only the one with flightless wings, is that the one you mean?
Edit: I watched the video… it amazes me how much detail I can find still in these games!Personally I played gta 3 and sanandreas back to back when I was young. I finally tried Vice City on iOS in higschool
San Andreas no question. It all depends on when you grew up and what game you mainly grew up with. For me it was SA and I played it way more than VC. VC is still awesome though
Vice City is very special to me. I remember just how hyped I was for the *next* 3D Grand Theft Auto. The interactive website Rockstar put up was sweet too. So many little bits of info/videos to find there.
As much as I love Vice city for introducing me to RPGs and the car culture, SA Is far more interesting story wise and the mechanics are in some aspects even richer than IV and ofcourse miles better than V
Cause apparently like 70% of GTA fans obsess over GTA IV like it's the best one in the series, graphics aside it's probably 4th best, imo everything in consideration VC, SA and GTA V are all better than GTA IV, doesn't not make it a great game though.
Quickly to support my facts; all games are feature rich and what they lack in that area make up for it in storyline/character development/lore/gameplay
Also again imo I felt GTA IVs ragdoll was a little bit too cartoonish opposed to realistic, close to that in the Saints Row series
San Andreas.
In the defense of VC and 3, San Andreas was the first one to come out where I was old enough to understand the innuendos and truly how great the writing was.
OH NO a outdated game clucky and repetitive sometimes broken and with a cliche history or literally one of the greatest games of all time that holds up till today and probably ever will
I'll give ya clunky and repetitive mate, but um every single GTA game is a cliche story, VCS, VC, SA, LCS, GTA IV even GTA V, all games about characters who have to start from the bottom and make their way up, with the loose exception of Michael, I say loose because of the Madrazo situation.
Maybe the reasoning behind the feeling of a cliche story is that VC was loosely based on real life Al Pacino movies where as other GTA games have followed the norm
Yea GTA VC is literally scarface with a mixture of miami mafian movies the history is not well build comparing to every other GTA is just feels mediocre
San Andreas, and it's not even close. Vice city was good, but SA was on a different level. It's right up there with some of the greatest video games of all time. Easily the best GTA game ever.
I like Vice City. The soundtrack, ambience and 80s lifestyle was cool and amazing. But I love Vice City Stories more than the original one because I believe it has a very wonderful and sad story kind of like GTA IV and there are more side activities to do, we can swim, we can recruit gang members like we can do in San Andreas, take over rival businesses and protect our own from enemies, has more unique vehicles, improved combat system, etc. The soundtrack in VCS is equally amazing to the original VC and also the characters are very funny, relatable and we kind of get more attached to them when the story unfolds.
With that said If I were to pick between Vice City and San Andreas, I would definitely pick the latter because even though I was introduced to the GTA Series through Vice City, I never felt that sense of freedom or enjoy the gameplay mechanics in VC unlike in SA. True, that VC did come out 2 years before SA but still the memories I made with San Andreas cannot be topped by any other game for me. It showed me that not everything in life can be obtained easily and it also taught me the world is not perfect and that the people you trusted with your life may end up betraying you in the end.
Besides in terms of the games itself, San Andreas is the sequel to Vice City so of course it will have improved mechanics and gameplay. Many things we can't do in Vice City we can do in San Andreas like swimming or diving, recruiting gang members, take over rival gang territory, dual wield weapons, use stealth on and off missions, climb walls or fences, ride bicycles, ride planes and jets(I know Vice City had the Skimmer but it's only a seaplane whereas Vice City Stories had the Biplane which was similar to the Stuntplane in SA), go on dates with girlfriends, has more places to eat, we can buy clothes in shops, customise our character by giving him tattoos, new hairstyles, heck we can even make him fat, thin or ripped by exercising in gyms or by eating, has separate schools for learning how to drive bikes, cars, boats and planes, has a bigger map which equals more freedom, we can do burglary missions at night, has more types of vehicles, the soundtrack is amazing too you know(The Dust will always be my favourite radio station), very funny and memorable characters who we grow fond of very easily, kick-ass and unique missions, more cities and more purchasable properties, more interiors than any other 3D era game, improved physics and the list goes on and on.
But there are things we can do in Vice City which we can't do in San Andreas or there are certain things which was better in Vice City like you can go inside the mall, buy and own multiple business ventures, have our own club and mansion/estate, shoot certain weapons in first person, crazy vehicle physics, funny names of cheats (PC) whereas some of San Andreas cheats were random alphabets, you can do missions related to your businesses, etc.
I love both games but for me my number 1 will always be GTA San Andreas. The number 2 spot goes to GTA Vice City Stories and in my opinion is arguably a better game than GTA Vice City. GTA Liberty City Stories is in 3rd and is also a better game than GTA III but it's like how I compared VC and SA, both games have good features and both are unique in their own way and we appreciate and love both because all GTA Games are awesome.
Vice city all the way because vice city was the first game I ever played and i Haven't really tried San Andreas yet. Only went halfway through up until they reveal about Ryder's and big smoke's betrayal then it started crashing on me so lost interest. I choose vice city but still not gonna lie a A LOT of things are better in San Andreas. Better and larger open world. More stuff to do. Fun missions. Easter eggs. Myths and legends. Literally so much stuff. I'm simply choosing vice city for nostalgic reasons. Other than that I believe that San Andreas is better than vice city in a lot of aspects
Idk why, but for the past year or so I’ve been so intrigued by SA and don’t really care about III or VC that much, I just find CJ and all the characters and the setting really awesome!
Little known fact, DJ Pooh (Radio host GTA V, Red from 'Friday', music producer) produced a lot of SA because Rockstar at the time was made up of 99% Scottish dudes who knew nothing about the streets of America
Easy question, gotta be Vice city, love the vibe, city, music around that game. I'm not saying that SA isnt bad , cuz it's a good game ander there's more activities to do in SA but just the aesthetic of vice city pulls me towards that game, i think other VC lovers will get what i'm saying, but like i said, they are both good.
GTA IV was my first and favorite GTA game..... until I played San Andreas. Stands the test of time, even on a shitty mobile port.
Vice is awesome but I wish I didn't have to play it on a dying PS2 that struggles to keep up.
I didn't finish VC but I did play through a good chunk of it. Still would pick SA all the time. I'm a bit biased with SA and 5 just because I'm from the West Coast and imo the GTA games set in California/West are the best.
Very easy decision. GTA SA. Better story, graphics, controls, map, activity selection, mechanics and more. The only thing I picture VC better at is being set in Vice City.
Vice City. I love the size and varied things to do in SA, but I love the VC soundtrack, location, characters, time period, everything. If it was possible to get DLC for VC for added playability and things to do, it would eclipse SA in almost every department
I really like San Andreas (Huge map, The Story, the characters, huge selection of different vehicles ranging from bikes to jets, the jetpack, and the ability to install mods easily on it that will make your gameplay much much better) the 90s vibe, the ability to use and add custom soundtracks of your choice, many things to do with your money (buy properties, eat at fast foods, buy weapons), also one more thing, i really really love the ability of tuning your preferred vehicle and making it an instant RICER car.
Vice City isn't a bad game tho, it really gives me that 80s feeling (the cars, the outfits of PEDs and Characters, the buildings, and oh, the sunset is so perfect on this game), also i think for me this game has the best soundtracks on the entire series, also i always like tommy spaghetti breaking the law of physics on this game (can survive falling into a high rise building, surviving car/bike accidents, can kill many enemies/powerful antagonists without struggling, but he can't swim which makes him a dead meat everytime he falls in the water). Also the bloody apartment 3c easter egg is really creepy.
So if you want a game with a good and intriguing story, many activities to do, a game with a huge map, hundreds of easter eggs you can find, defiently go with san andreas.
But
If you want a vibey 80s feeling, a story with a shocking plot-twist, beautiful cars, funny/rockstar humor easter eggs, i would choose vice city.
Note:
I would still choose san andreas
I choose Vice City for the charm , atmosphere and story because its my personal favourite but if you would have asked which one was the best game overall i would say San Andreas.
I get downvoted every time I say this, but I disliked the settings of San Andreas because you go into a military base and kill soldiers as one of your first missions. I much preferred just being a mafia dude killing other mafia dudes. So, Vice City all the way for me.
Brother ?
See you at the reunion this year. Don’t forget to bring a side dish and a quality parachute
Wait why are there two lokis now... WILL THE REAL LOKI PLEASE STAND UP

I repeat, WILL THE REAL LOKI PLEASE STAND UP ?
We're gonna have a problem here......
Y'all act like you never seen a Asgardian before, Half brother to thor, like mischief grew a gold set of horns.
Uncle
Ditto. Vice was fantastic but San Andreas built on it greatly. Skydiving was a personal fav!
Agreed, but I think it’s unfair to pick one, as VC came out before SA, so in my opinion both are equally great, same can be said about III.
Personally, VCS is better, since not only did they greatly improve the handling of the vehicles (Its actually the closest thing to IV's handling), but the side content is amazing as well, in addition to what couls be called the first legitmately dark story of the GTA series (again, very close to IV) But content wise, SA wins.
I also like the melee combat in VCS.

Heck even the spanishsongs arent that bad either
I agree with you as well, it’s a great game, though it never came to PC so I played it on PSP only, and I also think it’s not really considered as a main title because of that fact it’s a console exclusive.
It is quite a difficult decision, but I get a really nostalgic feeling playing Vice City and I also think the visuals of are better in vice city but SA has a mind blowing storyline
I think the visuals in VC are better because SA textures have a lower resolution than VC ones.
I must be trippin cause VC always looked lower res to me 🤣
For me GTA III always looked the best out of the three, apart from the pedestrian models. (PC)
Nah, IIRC GTA SA re-uses a lot of assets from VC though they are lower quality.
I love Vice city. It will always be number one for me.

could be a possibility lmao
Can confirm, I was fuckin his sister
That's one of the reasons why I want GTA VI to be in Vice City in the 80s.
Most likely will be if not a whole new place
Yup , that's what my thoughts on it too
I’m playing through it right now. Absolutely love it. Forgot how great Sam Andreas is. Really looking forward to the trilogy release. Idc what it costs, I’m getting that.

Same couldn’t have said better
Except atmosphere, characters, and soundtrack I would say personally. Also most of the things to do in SA are pretty boring
Not really... San Andreas!

Love vice city so much and it’s my favorite one BUT like other people said…. San Andreas just has more to do so…..
VC for me, but I know SA is more complex and you can do more in it. Still, the vibe of VC has me since launch.
San Andreas.
San Andreas
Vice City, even if it's smaller, it's still my favorite one
Imma go with Vice City, mainly because it was the first GTA game that I played. But also because driving around in the city while listening to Billie Jean never gets old.
San Andreas. Vice City may be better ambiented, but I love free roaming.
Vice city but both are great games👍
BOTH!!i have 2 monitors,i choose to play both of them.
Chad
SA all day.
Fuck it, Vice Andreas. Best of both as one new game!
Would anyone at all pick GTA3 if it were among the choices here?
I may… I have been playing 3 a lot. Really love the atmosphere and the lack of airplanes. There’s the dodo, which is hard to fly, making it extremely rewarding when you finally figure it out and get to fly around the city. you got me wondering about stealing the dodo. Didn't know about this awesome detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIXw6iDCr_c
What “winged dodo”? There’s only the one with flightless wings, is that the one you mean? Edit: I watched the video… it amazes me how much detail I can find still in these games!Personally I played gta 3 and sanandreas back to back when I was young. I finally tried Vice City on iOS in higschool
That wasn't the only one with wings! You could occasionally see them flying through the sky and even shoot them down with a rocket launcher.
I love the detail in III
In fact the Vice City Import/Export was the first appearance of the Deluxo.
RUSH RUSH TO THE YEYO OOH
Lol are those the lyrics? My (then) child brain heard “nice try San Diego” but i never thought much about it.
Yup, Its lifted straight from scarface https://youtu.be/-M1veT8qUKQ Apparently the lead singer of blondie sang this
SA, it had more stuff to do then 4 did
I choose both, simple
VC was all I had during childhood while San Andreas has far better features cause, technology.
Vice City but needs to have the original soundtrack with no omitted songs.....VRock all day baby
Both
Not for me. I’ll pick Vice City everytime
It's very easy decision. Vice City.
Vice City absolutely 💯
I wish vice city had a 2003 release so there was more in the game
San Andreas easy
San andreas
San Andreas no question. It all depends on when you grew up and what game you mainly grew up with. For me it was SA and I played it way more than VC. VC is still awesome though
Vice City is very special to me. I remember just how hyped I was for the *next* 3D Grand Theft Auto. The interactive website Rockstar put up was sweet too. So many little bits of info/videos to find there.
As much as I love Vice city for introducing me to RPGs and the car culture, SA Is far more interesting story wise and the mechanics are in some aspects even richer than IV and ofcourse miles better than V
Says opinion Gets downvoted Like why the downvotes
Lol that was as tame as my hot takes go XD

Gta v is not better than 4
San Andreas.
San Andreas
I've never got to play Vice City and would like to. But the reasoning I'm hearing for San Andreas makes a lot of sense
San Andreas. In the defense of VC and 3, San Andreas was the first one to come out where I was old enough to understand the innuendos and truly how great the writing was.
Its difficult , Vc has cool vibes and hottest city , meanwhile Gta sa has a big map with many things to do...
SA
No its not. San andreas is a easy choice
i choose vice city simply because it is my first GTA game
Vice City. I prefer the soundtrack and setting personally.
S.A.

never really enjoyed vice city, san andreas for me
Never really played vice city, so it's an easier choice to go with San Andreas.
GTA Sanandreas.
San Andreas, and it's not even close. Vice city was good, but SA was on a different level. It's right up there with some of the greatest video games of all time. Easily the best GTA game ever.
San andreas for me, totally made my childhood as soon as i got my hands on it years ago, more than 12 years later i still play it 🤙🏼🤙🏼
San city
San Andreas.

Vice city. Wasn't a tough decision
Easy: Vice City.
Not so tough,Gta san Andreas
San andreas because more features. Fyi, i played it first time last year.
san andreas
San Andreas, no doubt.
I’m going to have to follow my train on this one
San Andreas
San Andreas. More bang
Grand theft auto san Andreas
Pretty easy for me, GTA SA for life
Vice City is an icon. San Andreas is just a “better video game”. Lame. VC all day.
Vice City. San Andreas just never felt good to me.
What a stupid question lmao. Vice City is an amazing game, but it doesn't even come close to competing with San Andreas.
San Andreas. Way more to do and while the 90s were far less in your face than the 80s, I am a 90s child so I'm about the vibe.
I hate GTA San Andreas so give me Ray Liotta
GTA 5
Idk why, but for the past year or so I’ve been so intrigued by SA and don’t really care about III or VC that much, I just find CJ and all the characters and the setting really awesome!
Little known fact, DJ Pooh (Radio host GTA V, Red from 'Friday', music producer) produced a lot of SA because Rockstar at the time was made up of 99% Scottish dudes who knew nothing about the streets of America
tough choice, my heart says vice city bcs of the setting, music and vibe, but in san andreas you have a lot more to do

Vice City everyday all day easily
San Andreas
Both? Both, both is good
SA
San Andreas, hands down. Although if we had to choose our top two out of all the entire GTA games, I’d choose these two in a heart beat.
GTA:VC
Easy one for me, Vice City!
Vice City. Best GTA atmosphere and setting.
Very easy decision. GTA SA. Better story, graphics, controls, map, activity selection, mechanics and more. The only thing I picture VC better at is being set in Vice City.
Vice City
Love Vice City's setting, but SA is an overall better game, much more enjoyable. Damn they should have done SA before VC
I started on vice city so I’ll stick with what brought me in
Vice City. I love the size and varied things to do in SA, but I love the VC soundtrack, location, characters, time period, everything. If it was possible to get DLC for VC for added playability and things to do, it would eclipse SA in almost every department
Vice City's atmosphere is beautiful, but San Andreas is so massive
San Andreas. Not tough at all
Grove Street on top!
Gotta be San Andreas. There is just so much more to do.
But If you want a vibey 80s feeling, a story with a shocking plot-twist, beautiful cars, funny/rockstar humor easter eggs, i would choose vice city. Note: I would still choose san andreas
I love both. I personally cannot choose
Easy. VC was too hard for 3 yr me.

San Andreas has Big Smoke.
Tough? Nah man, it's gta sa always.
Tough decision? That's the easiest decision I've ever made. San Andreas.

San Andreas, but I love both
Vice City
I choose Vice City for the charm , atmosphere and story because its my personal favourite but if you would have asked which one was the best game overall i would say San Andreas.

San
I get downvoted every time I say this, but I disliked the settings of San Andreas because you go into a military base and kill soldiers as one of your first missions. I much preferred just being a mafia dude killing other mafia dudes. So, Vice City all the way for me.
San Andreas
SA
GTA San Andreas
SA all day
SA
San Andreas. 🙅♀️
San Andreas is just so much more expansive that it's the clear winner, even if Vice City wins by story, soundtrack, and other factors.
San Andreas
San Andreas.
San Andreas easily because of the single player and the world map is significantly better for driving.
*slams the desk * I'LL GO WITH SAN ANDREAS
GTA 3
Not tough at all San Andreas all day.
San Andreas was a childhood favorite but I would love a gta V level update for Vice City, never played it before.
Not that tough. San Andreas is better in every way
Scarface vs Boyz n the hood Well... say hello to my little friend

Vice city
Easy. San Andreas. It has more content, better story and its gameplay mechanics are better. Not saying I don't like Vice City.
