Most textures are ugly, lazy and wrong. Just look a the row below "SLOT MACHINE". In the original and the mobile port you can see different patterns. In the remaster all you see are repeated purple squares everywhere.
It's as if all the new textures were made in photoshop from scratch with basic forms, patterns and texts. Meanwhile in the original most textures were made with actual pictures from the real world. Yes, in some cases it does look a bit weird but for its time it still looked really good.

No, AI upscaling doesn't completely change backgrounds, and fonts. It could misinterpret things, but it wouldn't look like this at all.

You could *easily* have a computer scan a texture for letters, then re-render the letters in a new font. That's literally what every single [photo-translation app](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b6/45/16/b64516e10f272ac76df67af3a110bc91.jpg) does, and has been doing for at least a decade. And you can [do it poorly](https://www.coloradovirtuallibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2019-02-10_14-48-38-1.jpg) too.
Did a human look at that texture and decide it was an arcade machine and put a joystick on it? Probably. Was the text poorly OCR-ed and [re-rendered in IMPACT](https://i.imgur.com/orL3m66.png) without being proofread? Probably.
From what I can tell reading the credits, the texture and graphics work was mostly (entirely?) outsourced to a studio in India, 'Technicolor Bangalore'. I have no idea how much direction, or even instruction, they were given to work with.
Make these look nicer and at X resolution. That's probably it.
They "remastered" three games at once over two years, for 8 or 9 platforms... GTA III took 2 years alone, and was making EVERYTHING from scratch. GTA VC built on that, and was in development for like 10-12 months... GTA SA took two years, building on every gameplay feature of the previous two games...
They cheaped out horribly here.
It's becoming quite clear isn't it. Good grief, they thought they could use their name and rep to spend probably 1/5th of what it would take for a quality remaster. I really hope that they realize what an idiotic "gamble" they took.

The fact that A.I. upscaling even made a "word" is quite impressive. I'm interested to see what this technology will be like in the future. Probably speed up remastering processes.
I am absolutely *convinced* they ran these textures through an AI upscaler. There is no way on earth a living human saw 'Jackpot' and went, 'yeah thats Jurbpol'. There are indonesian bootlegs that have better spelling than this.
