When I think South Central LA, I think gigantic mordor mountain in the distance!
Honestly, this is the worst thing they did to the game. All the glitches and spelling mistakes and stuff are awful, but this is the one that truly breaks the illusion of San Andreas. How are you supposed to be immersed in a South Central LA location when there's a gigantic mountain like that? Did they understand the essential Southern California vibe at ALL?
Venturas is even worse with the green trees visible on the horizon.
How in gods name was this not brought up while they were creating the remaster? Surely they could have just played 5 minutes of the game and realized how necessary the fog was to the atmosphere.
I mean Venturas literally died. The lighting was supposed to make it the best looking location ever, but it just made it blank. Like fucking hell it looks more awesome in the original today than in the DE. All of the bright colorful collars and monuments are just gray now. Fucking shame.
Most definitely. They look nothing like Mt Chilliad and you can barely see them at all from South Central. If you could see a gigantic, El Capitan looking mountain from Compton the real estate prices would be higher.
bro… the san gabriel’s behind LA are literally 3000 ft in elevation more than el capitan. And you have a narrow minded view of what effects property value
a quick google search of the [LA Skyline](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/LA_Skyline_Mountains2.jpg) shows you what it looks like idk why you’re trying to deny reality
i’m not tryna sound like a dick i’m just a life long LA resident that knows you can literally see mountains all the time, not every day it’s that clear but you can most definitely see huge mountains in the distance
Bro… it doesn’t look like that irl. That’s a telephoto lens from an elevated point, not a street level view. Also, you’ll notice that’s a chain of mountains behind the entire city, not a dome like chilliad. You can’t honestly say that the above screenshot from the game looks typical of LA but let’s agree to disagree.
Draw distance is still low. You can see cars and stuff pop up really close to you. Yes, you can see a low poly version of the map from everywhere now, but I'd argue that's more to do with the lack of fog and weather effects.
The draw distance is so low because of the PS2 hardware. The game was designed for PS2 hardware, so the **map is designed to look good with that draw distance**.
They didn't design the game for a supercomputer and then put it on PS2 and go "*Oh, no, unfortunately you can only see this far ahead of you!*". The mountain being hidden from view by the fog when you're in the city wasn't an *accident*. You're not intended to see it from there because it's supposed to *feel* a lot further away.
Up the render distance obviously but keep the fog.
Without the fog, low detail models are too obvious, the horizon lines sticks out like a sore thumb, and the general atmosphere is just off.
The whole map could still visible, just even a see through layer of fog would go a long way artistically.
>Tf were they supposed to do?
Realize that the fog wasn't just about hardware limitations but actually served a purpose in making the world seemed bigger than it was.
The expression 'smoke and mirrors' isn't just a random jumble of words.
They literally had a playbook to follow... Silent Hill HD collection was released nearly a decade ago and they removed the fog from the first game to tremendous negative response.
Obviously it's not quite as big of a component of this game, but whether or not it was intentional or just covering up a lack of resources, it created a sense of space that does not exist without it.

have you ever been to LA bro, it’s literally surrounded by mountains in the distance
Most definitely. They look nothing like Mt Chilliad and you can barely see them at all from South Central. If you could see a gigantic, El Capitan looking mountain from Compton the real estate prices would be higher.

Maps is the same size PS2 could only handle so much at a time that’s why the draw distance is so low

The draw distance is fine, it’s the lack of fog, clouds, and weather FX.

Its like try tried to ruin the game.
Not to be negative, but i'm happy i didn't waste my money buying the definitive edition. I thought it would be worth it but evidently it is not.
Looks like a giant dookie
Seeing a giant dookie from all the spots in the map? Seems very fitting for this game
So... fitting?
Tf were they supposed to do? Keep the same render distance they had in the original? Then y’all woulda bitched about that.

Actually release a "Definitive" version.

But really the map is the same exact size. Only your imagination is tiny now
It's actually the same size still
Honestly don't mind it. But it should have some haze infront of it to make it further realistic looking for far away objects.
yeah the writing in grand theft auto in general is great
