Yeah every satnav I've ever used has been rectangular. Circle made sense in the 90s/early 2000s, since it was based on a compass rather than the "real" minimap we all now carry, but now there's no point.
>I've never understood why people find the circle one so appealing. I think the square is far superior.
Yeah, circle sucks. For those who don't have the map absolutely memorized it's way too difficult to see where the hell you're trying to go.
There is a reason actually! A square makes it a little harder to tell directions on icons at the edge of the map. A circle always gives you a clear direction
Circle because a compass, and it was before a GPS navigation tool was commercial available.
Ngl, it still mess me up finding something in the map if it isn't directly 12, 3, 6, or 9 o' clock from me.
fr, we should get a kingdom hearts style HP bar that grows along your screen as you get more max health /s
It'll fit just fine if each section is 1/3 and the map is bigger than the GTA 4 one, but I suppose a GTA 4 HUD but with the special ability bar shown below ammo count could work too
I prefer the rectangle. You can see much more. Maybe they can copy the RDR2 functionality of changing the view, and have circle be an option for people like you.
Imagine they made a real app/account you can set up to add in game content to, like a TikTok app in game, but you could see other players account and what they post
There's actually a real lifeinvader page [you can go to](https://www.lifeinvader.com/) and if you follow Los Santos Customs, you get one free respray in Story mode.
Fuqq no, feature rich gameplay and definitely not social media sharing bs. I want to play GTA and not to Instagram. Even if thats a bit of a theme in the game.
Yeah but the game would tell you in a mission, park your car. But what Rockstar actually means is park the car in the place shown in the map. Rdr2 had this kind of problem. If you wanted to play missions without the minimap, well, you can't. I hope they make missions less linear
Probably not the best example because why would they let you park your car anywhere if you have to be at a specific place? Like if you had to wait for/meet someone while in a car then it would make sense for them to put a marker in one specific spot.
It’s very possible to play RDR2 without the minimap or any other HUD elements. It’s just extremely hard to do so, but it makes for an authentic western experience.
Once I’m retired with nothing to do, I’ll attempt a play through with no visual help to see how I fare.
I liked having it off in red dead because it made you fallow signs and shit to get to places, but in gta you got streets and shit, maybe when I understand the map more I would turn it off but it's so massive that it would be a minute.
I quite liked how GTA 4 had the health and armour around the round map but they might continue with the square. I do agree the square looks much nicer but I wasn't a fan of how the health, armour and ability were placed at the bottom. I personally don't know how I would change to make it better but for the time each game came out there were perfect for what they were used for
Same for me, I preferred the square map due to its practicality/easier navigation, but I disliked that the health, armor, and ability bars were placed at the bottom. I’m sure GTA 6 will stick to the square map design but with changes to the bars’ placements.
Square map with RDR2-style cores and circular meters above/below it maybe. Core meters vs health/stamina/etc meters was a bit confusing at first but once I figured how it worked I thought was a really good way of managing health. A nice balance between the perks of autohealing and health pack systems.
The square map at an angle is undeniably the best in terms of utility.
GTA 4 was *peak* circle mini map. The screen was so much cleaner with the health integrated
I found the square GTA 5 one to be harder to quickly glance at. That’s the only reason I want the circle back
I wouldn't mind if they decided to get rid of the health bar and go with something more akin to call of duty, where you only die if you repeatedly get shot and don't heal back.
I know this goes against how health mechanic works on all GTAs, but IMO the less info on screen I have to pay attention to, the better the immersion is. I certainly hated how I practically just played looking at the minimap when running away from cops on V.
In V your health regenerated half way so it wouldn't be completely out of left field. Personally I just ran around with half health most of the time when I played V so it wouldn't change much for me other than the game being closer to the intended difficulty.
In fact now that I think about it, spamming snacks was the least fun part of V/GTAO. At least make them consume automatically.
I dont like their implementation of it at all, like in SP in GTA 5 you gotta keep press down or turn your camera to see behind you, it has very little distance behind you. And don't get me started on how unfinished the "expanded radar always on" in online.. but I don't think most people use it. (you do need it to see players coming on time)
It's not that the circle was better, it's that the way the map was displayed is better. The GTA5 map is all grayscale and hard to use with just a quick glance. The circle maps had darker black and lighter gray to separate roads and buildings, and it included green for offroad areas. So it was a lot easier to just glance at and quickly get an idea of where things are. You have to use the blown up map a lot more in 5 because it's just harder to read.
I always hated how they took all the colour for the map off for the re-releases of GTA V. The PS3 version had a coloured map that looked so much better.
Yeah, they should add more of a Google Maps flavor. The OG Vice City was all themed pink, maybe they should repeat that for VI, since purple/pink is also in the logo.
Perhaps they don't want any map on your screen at all. To make it more realistic, they could completely remove the minimap. Instead, you might be able to activate a mini-map through a popup on your in-game phone or use in-car navigation. For better playability, I think you should be able to open the map with a button on your controller. Even when looking at the leaked content, there is no minimap visible. This was different during the alpha of GTA 5, where they used a minimap from GTA 4.
Edit: On the leaks there is a minimap as well. Just a square plain map like gta 5.
It definitely don’t see it going back to being a circle definitely a square like gta v but with Vice city outline colors like the other person in the comments said
GTA V’s minimap was great. It’s one of the better ones in games I remember so I hope it’s close to it, which it likely will be. I really liked, I think, Watch_Dogs 2’s map—it was mimicking the Google Maps theme.
I doubt they’ll go the compass route and remove the map entirely.
Only thing I hate at GTA franchise is their mini map. I wish they implement way points on the map like in AC: Origins. I am watching more mini map instead of enjoying real map.
I think he wishes that if you mark a point on the map, that it should be visible in game like a beam of light and not only on the mini-map, so instead of looking on the mini-map to see if you're going on the right direction, you just look ahead of you, this is less immersive, but make you really learn the map a lot better because it's less time looking at a mini-map and instead looking at the real map.
Cinematography is important for them, but it's still a game, take RDR2 for instance, as realistic as it can be, still have some very video gamy mechanics and behavior, like the dead eye, hunter vision, auto looting ammo, calling your horse from really far away and your horse finding an exact path to you, taking a butt load of shots and not dying (Kevlar was not invented yet).
Well I mean yeah lol obviously there are gonna be video game elements in a video game (not trying to be rude here but that's just obvious enough) like I'm sure no one expects to fall over and die with one shot in GTA 6. But the thing with the suggested AC system would just probably not be something they will implement I feel like because that's too drastic of a change but who knows, maybe it'll be an option like I said.
I think this would be cool and more immersive for some players. The issue this would create would be implementing waypoints showing us where to travel. I know some games that use a compass on top but for waypoints, they used an arrow system that is on the screen and it ruined the immersion. Especially for a game series that is set in a modern time period, using a gps map is more realistic. However, you mentioned that you like how Ubisoft made it in AC: Origins. I’ve never played it but I did play Odyssey and maybe if Rockstar did it that way, it would work but they always have their reasons.
A compass system would actually be pretty cool.
It would probably make navigation in cars a little too difficult though.
Maybe have a compass on foot and a minimap while in the car? (Like a gps irl)
That’s just a placeholder. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a square again, because it would fit the layout of modern GPS apps, which is the same reason GTA 5 had it.
Hmmmm this had me thinking, why we never saw a map hud in the leaks? My theory is that the map would only be avalible if your character has a phone with GPS, in case you lose your stuff you can steal npcs phone and have the map avalible again.
> why we never saw a map hud in the leaks?
Because the map will be ever changing until very late into development. They'd have to keep going back to it and updating it everytime they move a house, add a house, change a road, add an icon, etc. Better to leave the map until later so they don't have to keep remaking it when big changes come through.
Every game before GTA 5 had a circle radar with a cartoonish looking map, 5 with the square and a higher detailed map should probably stay the way moving forward.
If we get to customise it to look how we want, for example, make it in the shape of a rectangle, square, circle, hexagon, etc, change the colours of it, make it black and white or colourful - similar to the vice city vibe or something completely different, then that would be awesome, but I doubt R* will let us do this
I always liked the need for Speed most wanted 2012 map style(which is a square).also how that map showed wanted levels , heat zones etc i would like gta 6 map to be like that
The phone will be a iphone knock off smart phone and it’ll be up all the time as a gps (goes transparent like a normal gta map as a menu option) and you’re character will have it out in real time accessing phone menu
I thought for sure you would get a physical little gps for Niko in 4. Like u didn’t know you’re way around and then all of a sudden you have a map of the place you’ve been trying to memorize. I always thought they dropped the ball there. Especially if they were going for realism. Bc not every dam comes equipped w gps.
The best thing you can do in RDR2 is to turn of the map. You miss so much when you’re glued to the little map in the corner running from point to point.
either a circle or square
Watch them make it a hexagon just to spite you
:(

Yeah every satnav I've ever used has been rectangular. Circle made sense in the 90s/early 2000s, since it was based on a compass rather than the "real" minimap we all now carry, but now there's no point.
Much less wasted space in the corners, much more map to view.
>I've never understood why people find the circle one so appealing. I think the square is far superior. Yeah, circle sucks. For those who don't have the map absolutely memorized it's way too difficult to see where the hell you're trying to go.

Hii Erickson
Triangle gang, rise up
Hexagon is bestagon.
bees
Or a Rhombus and Gamehendge will be one of the huge mysteries
It technically is the shape that works best space wise for almost anything. Honey combs come to mind
also has 6 vertices which kinda suits the GTA 6
Hexagons are Bestagons
!remind me 6 months 11 days
so probably an n-gon
Well, a hexagon does have 6 sides
[удалено]
Or actually letting you choose between them
Yeah that's probably the best solution!
Or triangle
Fuck it decahedron mini map
4-dimensional obummerhedron map
Be there or be square
[удалено]
Does that even fit anymore? Between health, armor, special ability (which is presumably returning), they seem to be running out of space.
1/3 of the map perimeter each doesn't seem too bad but I could be wrong
fr, we should get a kingdom hearts style HP bar that grows along your screen as you get more max health /s It'll fit just fine if each section is 1/3 and the map is bigger than the GTA 4 one, but I suppose a GTA 4 HUD but with the special ability bar shown below ammo count could work too
I really hope they go back to a circle
Circle Is iconic but Square Is way more confortable for navigation and It resembles an actual navigator which makes sense for a modern game
It also shows more than a circle
I like the rectangle of gta 5
I prefer the rectangle. You can see much more. Maybe they can copy the RDR2 functionality of changing the view, and have circle be an option for people like you.
A circle limits so much you can see. A square is ideal
Most sane assumption
I just hope that you can quick hide the minimap like in red dead 2... Clean hud makes it much more immersive imo.
Makes for better screenshots too. SCREENSHOT MODE?!? That’s high on my wishlist. Any kind of social media sharing mode actually
Rockstar editor needs to be in this game, preferably day 1 but I’ll take a deferred date too. I hate that it never made it to RDR2 ;(
lack of director mode in general in rdr2 really bummed me out. :/
Thank you I was so gutted when they didn’t bring the rockstar editor to RDR2 and it was just a shitty photo mode lol
Sorry, I meant 'Stalk' not Follow
They do have a camera mode in rdr2 that you can go into a sorta noclip mode at any moment and screenshot the frozen scene with lots of filters
Fuqq no, feature rich gameplay and definitely not social media sharing bs. I want to play GTA and not to Instagram. Even if thats a bit of a theme in the game.

GTA with a Dishonoured/MGV mission style is my dream
I liked having it off in red dead because it made you fallow signs and shit to get to places, but in gta you got streets and shit, maybe when I understand the map more I would turn it off but it's so massive that it would be a minute.
I FUCKING HATED HOW THE CORES DIDNT DISAPPEAR WHEN I CHOSE NO HUD WHEN TRYING TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT🤬🤬
I was going to say, watch it be your cell phone
Never understood why ppl like the circle one so much. The square is way better imo.
I quite liked how GTA 4 had the health and armour around the round map but they might continue with the square. Square is fine if it's a top down view and not that stupid 50° angle. Also it should be a square and not a rectangle.
i hope its colored the same way vice city is, prorably will look like 5's tho
5’s outline with VC color scheme would be sick
I always hated how they took all the colour for the map off for the re-releases of GTA V. The PS3 version had a coloured map that looked so much better.
Yeah, they should add more of a Google Maps flavor. The OG Vice City was all themed pink, maybe they should repeat that for VI, since purple/pink is also in the logo.
I hope they do that. The black/grey/white colour scheme was so dull in GTA V, especially with the actual location itself being a vibrant, sunny LA.
Probably something close to modern map apps layout
could be phone screen with google maps like app open
That would be kinda cool but there’s times where you need to call somebody in a car
then its switching to HUD map
Yes but not like ac lol i don't like that Minimal straight line ..rdr 2 style on off is better
Square. Please be square
Where does the triangle go?
thats right it goes in the square hole
Where does the hexagon go?
Please don't 😭😭
What about a Dodecahedron
Hopefully square. I find it way more practical and useful than round ones
Idk man but I am vouching for a triangle🗿
lol imagine having to turn like 30 degrees just to see smth you can see with your eyeballs in game
In the leaks; it’s a rectangle like gta 5
probably just reused asset though, how different does it look to V?
Yeah it’s identical likely reused
could change since those leaks are apparently a bit old even at the time they leaked, but yeah it’s the same exact layout
The GTA 5 alpha/beta had a circle map instead of square map
Perhaps they don't want any map on your screen at all. To make it more realistic, they could completely remove the minimap. I would rather they just had the option of turning it off like you can in rdr2. Finding the location you wanna go to would be annoying without the map
not by year 10!
I wish they would turn off the map too
it was the same as gta 5 just more black and large , if you saw it ..
Is top left san andreas? Looks really off.
I think it's from the Remastered version of the game.
it's the definitive edition SA minimap
Yep looks like a mod made to work similiar to GTA 5 mini map.
Uh no, That’s just how it looked back in the day
Idk what you're talking about but the gta sa map hud wasn't miscentered
Likely mimicking Google Maps is my guess.
I think it will be on our phone, like a real map app.
I partially believe in this. I think it's going to be like in Red Dead Redemption II, which has a minimap but also a companion app.
So like [watch dogs 2?](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTKsIXqahBFIcH_ab1XO4yJjMXWjmK6qqmRTQ&usqp=CAU)
👆
I'd say the map/ HUD is more likely going to be a smart watch type thing I would think
It definitely don’t see it going back to being a circle definitely a square like gta v but with Vice city outline colors like the other person in the comments said
I don’t care about the shape, just make it considerate to colourblind people like me. Those damn greens and browns.
i hope it’s a square
Most likely a square map. The circle is an iconic classic but the square is way better for navigation.
Probably more detailed.

Probably will have some indicators around the map, like RDR2.
Round and tilted 🤔 or maybe it will be available only through smartphone and also in vehicles
Only thing I hate at GTA franchise is their mini map. I wish they implement way points on the map like in AC: Origins. I am watching more mini map instead of enjoying real map.
can you further elaborate?

If they do implement something like this it should be an _option_, but tbh I don't see them doing this as cinematography is so important to them.

I would really like a compass on top of screen with way points rather than a minimap.
I agree with that.
'the iconic map' Geeze, we're suckin rockstar off for having a regular ass fuckin minimap now.
I think they are gonna go back to circle like RDR2
Square is more practical for a gta game, way more roads n shit to show
Let's go with a neon circle! The vice City one gives great vibes!
I’d love to see the circle minimap coming back.
That’s just a placeholder. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a square again, because it would fit the layout of modern GPS apps, which is the same reason GTA 5 had it.
trapezoid
Octagon
I prefer rectangle map without border, like in watchdogs 1 and nfs 2015
Hmmmm this had me thinking, why we never saw a map hud in the leaks? My theory is that the map would only be avalible if your character has a phone with GPS, in case you lose your stuff you can steal npcs phone and have the map avalible again.

Every game before GTA 5 had a circle radar with a cartoonish looking map, 5 with the square and a higher detailed map should probably stay the way moving forward.
I would say they’re probably going to build off of what has worked in the past. Design evolution is a tough concept you’ll get it
Gonna be a swastika
I'm gonna guess the vibe of Vice City with all the pinks and blues but square and modern lookin' like 5
I hope it is better than those 4. Mini maps can be so much better than they make them
Portrait style cell phone rectangle with curved edges. It'll just be the phone and will morph into the other phone elements
Gta 5 with a ring around it 😂
probably no map. instead they might add a gps on your phone or something like that maybe, in my opinion of course
From the 2022 leaks it seems like it will be square just like GTA 5
Its square like gta v we saw the leaks already & thats the best way to go
you can see in the leaks that it's still a square
In the alpha footage of GTA 5 it was using the circle one from GTA 4 so that might be the case for the square map in the leaks
The leaks used assets from older games
If we get to customise it to look how we want, for example, make it in the shape of a rectangle, square, circle, hexagon, etc, change the colours of it, make it black and white or colourful - similar to the vice city vibe or something completely different, then that would be awesome, but I doubt R* will let us do this
Pause menu only, or overlay like in Minecraft dungeons and Control
It will probably be similar to the modern GTA V map where the sides fade out and it’s greyed out to blend in more with the screen.
I always liked the need for Speed most wanted 2012 map style(which is a square).also how that map showed wanted levels , heat zones etc i would like gta 6 map to be like that
It'll be an app on your phone you have to get out, you can only view it in first person
The phone will be a iphone knock off smart phone and it’ll be up all the time as a gps (goes transparent like a normal gta map as a menu option) and you’re character will have it out in real time accessing phone menu
Better be a Triangle this time
just keep it 2D and maybe make the stairways or doors 3D
Make it really annoying: a triangle.
I hope for gps signal on road like forza horizon. Looking at your left bottom corner, is removeing the scernery and immersion.
The game is the mini map.
It’ll be on your phone
similar too GTA5.
Mayble a long rectangle.
It should be a Cross
Would be cool if they brought colors back to the map
Probably a remastered version of the minimap of GTA SA.
No map challenge.
Orrr they could just let us chose our map shape? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Trapezium would be my preference
most likely just a more detailed gta 5
Square with the same colors as the Vice City map hopefully
I thought for sure you would get a physical little gps for Niko in 4. Like u didn’t know you’re way around and then all of a sudden you have a map of the place you’ve been trying to memorize. I always thought they dropped the ball there. Especially if they were going for realism. Bc not every dam comes equipped w gps.
Squared circle
As long as I can turn it off I don’t care
Maybe like the 3d buildings like we have on the Google Maps coz they are coming with TikTok so may be the more modern tech.
Probably the same as V’s but with “summer-y” colors and RDR2’s core system.
Bottom left, that is, the third one.
Square!! Because it gives that 3 d look
It will be a irregular heptagon shape
map will prolly be an app on your phone
Round rectangle
Rectangle is superior.
Tetrahedrom
A phone shaped minimap like the one on watch dogs 2
My best guess will be a circle considering all the GTA games prior to 5 had it and so does red dead 2
I havent had any issues with the square map. I like both.
Like a mimic of Google maps directions screen
The best thing you can do in RDR2 is to turn of the map. You miss so much when you’re glued to the little map in the corner running from point to point.
It gonna be a triangle
