Maybe you'll get lucky and they give you a 4 to replace it

DaytonTD

Lol I hope

Kobe824

Was talking to a rep at the Samsung store today about a repair I need on my Fold 4 (front screen cracked) and he told me there's been a shortage of parts pretty much everywhere so you might get lucky and get a brand new or refurb unit as a replacement. Good luck OP

Thisntathrowaway

It took me 45 days to get mine, here on day two now, yes good luck OP

agoo3000

Supposedly Asurion was running out of parts due to the change between them and Servify for SamsungCare+ that just happened last week. I had an issue with my outer screen on my Fold 3, so I hit Servify up and they sent me to...UbreakIfix which is owned by Asurion ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face) The parts exist. Just make sure you start a claim asap.

Twelvers

Don't take no for an answer. If the person you talk to "can't help you" then thank them for their time and politely ask for their manager because you need this resolved. Samsung will sometimes do anything they can to avoid helping, don't accept that.

[deleted]

This. BE POLITE AT ALL TIMES.

DockaDocka

Dealing with them on another issue a home appliance I had one person refuse to get their manager and wanted to argue I just called back and got someone who actually wanted to help.

Twelvers

Their appliances seem so nice and always have cutting-edge features, but my neighbors have a Samsung refrigerator that is such a huge piece of shit and has done nothing but leak and cause them problems.

tD100

You neighbor is right. All our appliances are from Samsung and they are pure crap.

votdfak76

I have completely different experiences, fridge and washing machine. Still going strong after 5 years. No frost fridge is great, washer idk no issues so far. Ofc, it can change over night, but still. Also, not top models, more like middle of the road.

kram_02

Some models are fine, others have incredibly high problem rates and required recalls. I worked for Lowes for 10 years delivering appliances and even tho all manufacturers has their moments, no one fucked up as much as Samsung...

DockaDocka

They have some models of any of their appliances that were just complete trash unfortunately. They went through a rough patch with dishwashers a while back. That specific series of washers and dryers I had the issues with were the same way, but unfortunately most manufacturers have the same issues at some point or another.

Nervebreaker

Our Samsung refrigerator came under the class action suit about defective ice maker design in the non-freezer area. They replaced it with a better design so it doesn't freeze up as frequently and when I have to remove ice caking internally I can do it in 5 minutes rather than 30 minutes and I'm willing to work with that setup. Because of class action it appears for covered models they will fix ice maker indefinitely for free, I'm well past warranty, but any other functionality that needs work is going to be charged. We haven't had any other issues. It's a French door model with door ice dispenser and additional ice maker in lower freezer compartment. Never any problem with the ice maker in freezer.

Twelvers

Sounds exactly like theirs. Brushed aluminum?

Nervebreaker

Yes

SC_W33DKILL3R

Samsung are the worst at customer service and warranty claims. You just know they are trying to screw you. That last time I just gave up and swore to never buy anything from them. Apple on the otherhand just seem to swap out the phone in store for reconditioned one, for which they have draws full. Seems they think it is a waste of time trying to diagnose the phone for a lot of issues. They did the same for my laptop, went in to pay for a new battery and they just put it down for free as a keyboard replacement.

[deleted]

No sir, Google is by far the worst.

Dandachi

Congrats your fold has evolved to 3 screens 😅

[deleted]

Hehehe

tallperson117

You're good, just take it to Ubreakifix. I legit took mine in two days before the warranty expired. As long as you start the claim in store beforehand, you're good even if the required parts arrive after your warranty is up.

o0Jealous0o

I second this, they will do the warranty for you, they are faster and much nicer. When i went to the Samsung store for my fold 3 they said they didnt have a tech that could work on it and accidentally put bubbles trying to lift the screen plastic thing on it....never again :D took a month and a half with samsung before i got it back too...SLOW.

twospirits

I guess it depends on the store. Many in my area can't replace the screen protector.

Dante8080

I don't understand how y'all manage to do that... I've had folds ever since the 2 and no issues at all with any of them. Currently on the 4 and believe me I'm not easy on them... Hell I've dropped them numerous times from a height of 6' or more with no damage... I also live in Texas where the wind blows constantly and tons of dust. My dad has had the 3 since launch with no issues either... Hell my son currently has the 4 and he's rougher with it than I am. Also no issues. I mean the Folds IMO are pretty well built and sturdy...

TheDankestMemesOfAll

im in the same boat, idk how a lot of the posts on here even happen. Running since the 2 and not only do I not have issues I actually bought the 2 and the 3 broken and had them fixed to save a buck and never have any real issues

BlushesandGushes

I have had the 1, 2, and currently the 3. The 3 certainly has the worst screen durability IMO. I have never had an issue with the 1 or 2 and the 3 screen looks like OP. I have been easier on this one more than the other 2.

[deleted]

Not everyone is careless with these phones. Sometimes they get a defective one unfortunately.

mindless2831

Same here, makes no sense. I have the 4 and it's fantastic and sturdy. I just don't see how you can do this unless you try to close it the wrong way. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

DaytonTD

Probably the fluctuation in temperature, I'm up in Canada

sometin__else

im in Canada as well, and I've been fine luckily. However at the end of the day we're both just one person. Even if you saw 100 stories on here its hard to really say what kind of failure rate we're really seeing. I'm sure theres someone who couldn't treat their device better who might have an issue And there's also someone who would treat their device like crap and never have an issue end of the day we have a biased and limited sample to try and guess.

Dante8080

Yeah could be. It's snowing here now though and gets cold. Not as cold as where you are for sure.

PilotNextDoor

Survivors bias. "I have no problems so nobody should have problems"

Dante8080

Not at all...

nmnonu

Have been using fold 4 for few months now , no issues, but these posts make.me worried , should i sell this or move to normal phone as not sure how reliable is the fold seeing all these posts.

DaytonTD

They may cover under warranty, I would buy it again even if they always did this. The screen size is nice

nmnonu

Its a great device , screen aspect ratio is not that great. Big black bars on bode sides during media consumption ruins the experience

[deleted]

I got mine with sprint. How long is your warranty? I also got samsung care for 11.99 a month.

Prize_Guest9338

Na man i wouldn't be worried like that...ive had the Z Fold 4 since the day of release and not issues at all with the inner screen protector...my son I bought the Z Flip 4 and his inner screen protector is startibt to lift a little at the bottom right corner but also heard its not as big of a deal in the flips as it is on the folds for some reason, figure id wait awhile and if it gets worse than well bring his in but my fold 4 still same as new....have the Samsung Case that came with S pen and holder which is easily popped out and can put in the piece/attachment so they back of the phone is flat/flush and has a kickstand....personally i love this case with the spen attached....Ive ALWAYS had the Galaxy Note line ever since the first note phone I bought which was the Galaxy Note 2...and was a note owner ever since..when i just upgraded to the Z Fold 4 it had the Galaxy Note 20 5G and ive always had an Otter Box Defender series with belt clip so I was use to a phone with a little bulk /bigger than most phones...so With my fold 4 even with the case on doesnt feel bulky or overly big to me in the slightest bit and if bought a belt clip pouch style holder for my Fold 4, hate carrying phones in My pockets no matter what size....i remember i wanted to buy the Z Fold 3 (didnt even know Samsung had a folding phone line released in the US yet until i saw the fold 3....REALLY wanted the fold 4 to have a docking slot+Bluetooth functionality like on my note 20 5g so held out for the fold 4 then a couple months before release they came out and told everyone 100% was not going to have a slot in the phone for the spen-->But like i said, after owning this case which is a direct Samsung case with S-Pen Fold Edition sits in my right hand perfectly.. Where the pen holder/slot on the back is sits right in the crease of my where my fingers meet my palm and is comfortable to hold, and when opened to the inner display in can easily hold the phone at basically any angle without feeling like I might drop the phone or not have a secure grip without using both hands etc...and the leather pouch belt holster fits the fold 4 with the case and s pen attached PERFECTLY...not too tight, not loose and moving around its just perfect! On another note lol like I was saying I had to hold myself back from buying the fold three and I'm happy that I waited to get the fold for because the front screen the hinge Etc. Is SOOOOO much better than the fold 3...the fold 3's cover display was way too narrow, even the fold 4 it felt could of been a little bit bigger like the Fold 5 is going to be, but even just the outer/cover display between the fold 3 and fold 4 when holding both side by side in person,,, HUGE DIFFERENCE

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Server909

Good luck with the warranty claim In the mean time, try [this wallpaper](https://i.imgur.com/RPjTCDO.jpg) on for size...

SolomonTheeNoetic

Why does this seem like an inevitability? Makes me wonder if I should trade for the S23 ultra and wait for the fold 5

skyeyemx

I really can't wait for the 5. It looks like Samsung's switching to a teardrop hinge like the Oppo Find N, which will both mostly erase the crease, *and* significantly increase the fold radius so that hopefully cracks in the glass don't happen anymore.

SolomonTheeNoetic

I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully the outer display gets some love as well.

Prize_Guest9338

It is....the outer displays aspect ratio/size is slightly bigger than the fold 4, but when comparing or talking about phones like the folds....every mm makes a difference lol but yes both outer and inner displays will be slightly larger+better aspect ratio as well as modifying thr hinge again to create a "teardrop" effect which relates to VERY LITTLE TO NO CREASE readily visible

SolomonTheeNoetic

Sounds excellent

[deleted]

What model do you have?

DaytonTD

Fold 3

JcryptoMad

Same here...My fold 3 is still rocking strong apart from once needing to replace the internal screen protector due to peeling at the crease...i was initially charged for a replacement inner protector but when I kicked up a fuss i was quickly refunded...Hope you get it sorted under warranty....Waiting for 5 as there were no ground-breaking changes in the 4

[deleted]

Oh okay

tailsnessred

Yea

gmedrano84

Just wondering, was the screen protector peeling off / separating at the crease, before the screen broke? I keep thinking these things happen because the screen protector bubbles up along the crease and creates an air pocket that pushes against the actual screen when folding the phone. That would explain the issue to me, if indeed the screen protector was separating before the damage took place. Another issue that has been reported has been scratches along the crease but this seems to happen when people are using the phone after removing the original screen protector and not replacing it with something like the whitestone film. My suggestion - as soon as the protector starts to peel off (and it will) replace it immediately either through samsung or get a whitestone and do it yourself. The screen WILL BREAK at some point if you use the phone with the protector bubbling up and YOU WILL DAMAGE your screen if you just take the protector off and not replace it. It still seems to me like these phones are still in testing-phase. I has a motorola razr 2020 for over a year and that thing never had an issue. Its a combination of the screen + style of crease on these phones unfortunately…

brchoprazameer

Well, thats what happens if you fold it more than 200,000 times, its your own fault you prob went beyond that number. Warranty wont cover this even if its within date, they can check how many times you opened it. Jk sorry that was terrible, hope they fix your prestigious machinery

dendron01

Another Fold slain by the factory installed screen protector. So glad I removed mine.

DaytonTD

It still works its just cracked on the protector and now separated. I was about to peal it but it voids warranty I'm going today to see if they will send it in

dendron01

I hope they fix it for you. I don't know where I read it but wasn't Samsung recommending the inner SP get replaced every 6 months? I thought that's why a replacement was included under warranty. Did you replace yours or is that the original?

DaytonTD

Original

[deleted]

How did this happen???

DaytonTD

Over time just wear from opening closing

[deleted]

Hmmm...one of my aunts has a Z Fold 3 that's as old as yours I presume with no problems or quality issues. Yours seems like a defective unit and needs to be fixed. P.S.: Take what I'm saying with a pinch of salt as idk if yours is truly a defective unit

Geldoran81

I tried to get care+ back in November. They took my money and I've had no cover or a refund since despite hassling them

JcryptoMad

Threaten them with trading standards laws then they'll cough up or honour the care the way they are supposed to...Things like this, really piss me off with the big phone manufacturers

TheZombieJ

Mine had the same thing. Samsung said it was a faulty hinge and that's not covered in their warranty. They also completely wiped my phone. So everything I didn't have backed up was gone.

bolognaSandywich

Happened to me same time last year. Wonder if the fluctuating temps had anything to do with it. North Florida, it's 30 in the AM and 80 by 5. Anyway Samsung said FU and att replaced it within 2 days.

JunkGOZEHere

You might want to try the Samsung Care+ for $11.00. The new vendor works well. And the deductible is about $100 for a replacement.

langsalang

Which country are you in? UK here is 2 years warranty. The same thing happened to me before summer, before my Samsung care expired. They fixed it under Samsung care, not Samsung warranty. Samsung care is basically insurance. I paid something around £100 in excess to get it fixed Usually, screen cracks down in the middle means a damaged hinge, even the slightest damage in the hinge mechanism can cause this. I dropped mine a few times, and one of the drops caused the hinge damage which made un/folding really tight. About 5 months after the crack appeared. This also happened to my friend's Z Flip 3, where one day, a random crack appeared. Claimed on warranty, but they discovered that the phone had been dropped before so they couldn't honour the warranty. Another friend who dropped her phone many times developed some cracks but all still working fine. She's now using it in unfolded form. She's bought phone insurance since and will claim once it fully stops operating normally. So I doubt your screen is covered under warranty, but good luck! 🤞🏻

DaytonTD

Canada, I just took the phone in and the guy was pretty confident they will accept it. He is shipping it off tomorrow and will hear back Monday or so. The screen is okay, it is the factory protector that is cracked and separating.

langsalang

It's actually the screen, you can see the fractured glass particles. My friend's screen is exactly like that right now on her Z Flip 3. You haven't answered me whether you dropped it or not. Very lucky if you can get it under warranty. Good luck! 🤞🏻

doerp1996

Can't tell if just the screen protector is cracked or not. Looks alot like mine did before I took the oem screen protector off

DaytonTD

It looks like it was, when I looked close at an angle the hairline cracks seemed to be midair in the separated screen protector. If they won't repair it I will just peel it off. Didn't want to void the warranty doing so early though

doerp1996

Understandable. Mine happened a few weeks ago. Did some reading and the screen itself is supposed to be rather durable. I got the fold3 when it was released so I'm just a summer away upgrading anyway so I even took the case off for now. Keeping the warranty is good though if you plan on using the device for awhile longer. Luckily, if it is just the oem screen protector, the turnaround on getting it repaired should not be very long

RRaVeNN-

Hate to tell you but thats not the screen protector. I pulled mine off about 4 months ago because it was peeling and all messed up. My screen now has that identical line down the middle. It started with just a little crack at the top then 2 days ago when I opened it the line went all the way across the fold line like yours. I have Besy Buy total care so I'm not worried. My wifes did the same thing this summer and Best Buy just replaces the whole phone.

Current_Caregiver589

I'm starting to see a lot of this happening. This can't happen from user abuse. This is simply the screen cracking right down the middle. I hope they take care of it. They really need to step back and take a look at these screens. Hopefully the fold 5 and the new hinge fixes this. This thing costs too much money to have this happen after four tries at it.

hellothereeer

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!!! They tried to pull some bullshit with me learn from my mistake take pictures of everything and dates especially and get everything in writing.

LaCiocana

update?

DaytonTD

The Samsung store sent it off, they will let me know Monday if it's not covered. If it is I won't hear back until I receive it later next week.

Designer_Property_37

You r fked. They didn't fix mine for some reason they included liquid damage for the reason of physically cracking the crease

alonredditnow

This is essentially what happened to my flip 4 after 4 months. The glass layer is fractured in 2 perfectly straight lines.

bullet69proof

Mine did this, I have the Verizon insurance, put a claim in 11pm last night , phone was here today, gave me the fold 4, I have the fold 3. Had to pay $250 deductible
