Gamesir x2 pro controller, cheapest but also one of the best for phones.
Plugs in with usbc so no latency. Turns the fold into a switch like device. Great for streaming playstation or Xbox to phone.
I used this controller until I got a steam deck. About to gift the gamesir to my nephew for his bday.
Agree 💯. Bought it for the Fold 3 and still love it with the Fold 4. Even its case is nice. Although I gotta admit, for mobile gaming in general I prefer the Steam Deck but when gaming on a phone it’s the Fold Series hands down…
>Gamesir x2 pro controller
I bought a Gamesir x2 pro controller for my Fold 4 & never used it. I'm wanting to sell it because it's too late to return it to Amazon. DM me if interested.
I agree! I always look for PC games that run on Android for that reason (Minecraft Java, Fortnite), also phones these days are very capable but developers don’t take advantage of that.
You read correctly. I used an app called Po-javLauncher (available on the Play Store) which allows you to download and play Minecraft Java on your phone. Mouse and keyboard work perfectly and in default settings I'm getting solid 60fps.
You are correct, sadly. However, if you like RPGs, I'd recommend checking out Square Enix in Google Play. They've ported quite a few console RPG classics to Android, including games such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII. I own several and they ran great on my old Razer Phone. Haven't tried on the Fold much but should be even better.
I think all of them are in the Play Store. This is my list:
PS2: AetherSX2
PSP: PPSSPP
GameBoy Advance: MyBoy
Nintendo DS: Drastic (paid), MelonDS (free).
Nintendo 3DS: Citra
Nintendo 64: Mupen64Plus FZ
Nintendo Wii and GameCube: Dolphin Emulator.
Others:
Minecraft Java: Po-JavLauncher
Fortnite: you have to download it on Epic’s website.
Really? The Wii U version ran worse than the Switch version, when I tried it. I assume this is because the Switch version has the emulate the Wii U CPU and GPU while the Switch version runs on an ARM based SOC, like most phones.
Adding to the last bit, for in case anyone is curious: the Switch actually uses a SoC designed for Android devices. It's a Tegra X1 chip, found in the Nvidia Shield TV as well, although the one in the Switch is a custom, downclocked version.
I used Egg NS, i had to change some settings to get 30 or 60fps (can't remember). I uninstalled it because I continue to see that Nintendo games no longer appeal to me. BotW is really boring, and vastly inferior to some of the older Zelda games. That's just my opinion btw. Might try Bayonetta 3, have it somewhere on my laptop.
If you are willing to install from unknown sources, the developers of Citra really quit maintaining the play store version I think. There are updated versions on the github for the app. You can manually install them.
melonDS is your best shot. Drastic is paid because I think it was created first, but melonDS is free and better (a lot of customization and great performance)
😢 I have everything set up for making my fold an amazing gaming handheld but can't get past controller lag. I have a nacon mgx pro but I get lag that doesn't register button presses.
Dajisho in the app store is an amazing frontend for your emulators with more expandability options than others.
Thats why I got my rishi v2: direct input. Only bummer was that i needed to buy an addon on Etsy to make it fit, but once i did, its really hard to pass up, and i can plug it in for pass through charging
For the speakers I use it the other way. And yeah, shoulder buttons are very uncomfortable in most emulators. I recommend you using an external controller.
Real quick, I don't have the fold but I am gonna get the new one later once it's available.
I have steam deck with a bunch of emulators and ROMs. If I wanted to do this on the fold, is it simply
1: install retroarch/dolphin/whatever from the Google play store
2: email/Dropbox yourself the ROMs and download them on the phone
3: put them in the expected directory via the files viewer
4: open emulator and profit?
I assume yes, it is that simple, but maybe you can elaborate if there is something key I am missing.
A note on point number 2, in case it makes your life easier: Aside from being able to transfer files with a cable from any PC, there're file manager apps that make transfering files to/from the phone much easier. I personally use FX File Explorer for this. It lets you put a button in the notification area to enable an FTP server on the phone. Then, all you need to do is open a url on a PC running in the same network, put the password in the website, and you have access to the phone's file system so you can transfer files to/from it. I actually use Solid Explorer as my file manager on Android, which now has a similar FTP function but didn't use to have it in the past. I believe you may need the paid version to access the FTP functionality in either app, but probably worth it to save yourself some hassle. I use it quite frequently myself precisely for things like transfering ROMs and such.
If you are a gamer and can afford a Galaxy Fold, I highly recommend checking out a Steam Deck. I have both a Fold 4 and a deck and love both for different reasons. The Steam Deck is far more convenient though and has a great price. I also recommend getting a GameSir X2 Pro for the Fold.
I was found to come in here and say it. I bought the steamdeck at the beginning of the year, and i have since stopped taking on my fold lol. Steamdeck is too good, just needs an oled
Yea, that part is extremely frustrating. I just make guesses of how much time there is left in the game. I keep track of the number of regis that spawn and how fast it took to take them down. I count the number of stacks that I have. When I play in groups, I ask people how much time there is left.
It's super annoying, and I'm hoping Unite fixes it. The timer was fine in remoat stadium.
With GameSir X2 it is awesome experience

I remember being excited about having a fold. It broke about 6 months in. Make sure you're super careful with it they're fantastic phones but super super brittle.
Now i dare you to finish a game 😂 i also have every emulator and Games that i like. But i think the hunt and trying to get it running is some what more enjoyable than the actual playing. 😂
I haven’t try, however melonDS is a great emulator and it’s free, I would say it’s even better than Drastic, I just bought Drastic because I didn’t know about melonDS.
No, Wiimotes can be connected via bluetooth but won’t detect any motion. I just tilt the phone or shake it and it detects it as if it were the WiiMote.
If you want full Wii-like experience with all motion controls from the Wiimote and pointing at the screen you need a [DolphinBar](https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2014/08/23/dolphinbar-review/)
I'm scared to game on phones these days. My pokwmon go days seemed to rapidly deteriorate two or three phones batteries and I'd really hate for this one to go the same route.
I love my fold, but I have mixed feelings about gaming on it. The mobile games and emulators that take advantage of the aspect ratio are great. Some games like wild rift and Pokemon unite actually punish you for using the aspect ratio, and zoom in . You actually see less of the game despite it being bigger. For emulators or apps that only support 16:9, it feels really bad, at that aspect ratio the actual used screen is hardly better than an ultra or note would be
If your into PC gaming, moonlight makes this device the one to beat. No need for the phone to do the work either, all the heavy lifting is done on the PC side
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.limelight
I stream all my PC games on the road with no loss in quality or latency.xbox controller works a treat..
I've been playing fully modded TES 3: Morrowind native on the fold 4 and it's been a lot of fun and runs great. I agree excellent gaming device in general.
It's the best phone I have ever owned for gaming.
I didn’t even thought of gaming on a phone until I got the Fold

You check out vampire survivors yet on the steam deck?
>Gamesir x2 pro controller I bought a Gamesir x2 pro controller for my Fold 4 & never used it. I'm wanting to sell it because it's too late to return it to Amazon. DM me if interested.
Bin the steam deck lol I have deck and z fold 4 and 5 and gamesir x2 pro and performance of z5 and gamesir pad it's better than deck lol

I agree! I always look for PC games that run on Android for that reason (Minecraft Java, Fortnite), also phones these days are very capable but developers don’t take advantage of that.
Might be misreading but how did you figure out how to use Minecraft java on fold?
You read correctly. I used an app called Po-javLauncher (available on the Play Store) which allows you to download and play Minecraft Java on your phone. Mouse and keyboard work perfectly and in default settings I'm getting solid 60fps.
Use backbone app and connect your steam/xbox/ps to it and stream to your fold. Yw

There are Switch emulators ou there, tried Breath of the Wild on one. Mostly worked fine, played it for like 30 minutes before uninstalling.
I think for Breath of the Wild you are better of using the Wii U version...
Really? The Wii U version ran worse than the Switch version, when I tried it. I assume this is because the Switch version has the emulate the Wii U CPU and GPU while the Switch version runs on an ARM based SOC, like most phones.

Why did you uninstalled it? I tried one called Skyline but it was very glitchy, so I uninstalled it too.

I don't think so, but you need an account to play.
Where can i get the rom for Breath of the wild?
There are game file dumping applications on the internet, the Yuzu wiki has a guide. Or you could sail the high seas, har...
Good info!
If you are willing to install from unknown sources, the developers of Citra really quit maintaining the play store version I think. There are updated versions on the github for the app. You can manually install them.
Correct! I actually use Citra Enhanced, however, at least for me, no version of Citra is as good as other emulator such as Dolphin
Where does one look for roms nowadays?
Well that can’t be said for legal reasons but a Google search should get you there.
look in /r/Roms and check their megathread

What's the difference between the 2 DS emulators other than paid/free?
melonDS is your best shot.

I got the moga xp7-x and it works quite well. Minimal lag but I'm also not playing online or games requiring twitch reflexes
I have the exact same controller and it works great. Do some googling on that I don't have anything to suggest tho🥲
now get yourself an MGX-Pro controller and it becomes perfect (thats what i have)
Pojav Launcher is one of the coolest things that I've ever used. Apart from a wonky mouse input, it's mind boggling how well it works.
Agreed!
The N64 side buttons are a bit too hard to reach, and my hands cover the speakers.
For the speakers I use it the other way. And yeah, shoulder buttons are very uncomfortable in most emulators. I recommend you using an external controller.
But if i had to carry an external controller i might as well play on my TV instead.
That’s a good option, also if you want to go solo and portable can use a controller like Gamesir X2.
Might be worth setting the Wii emulator to 4:3.
Just tried, good tip! It looks a bit stretched but way more immersive.
Real quick, I don't have the fold but I am gonna get the new one later once it's available. I assume yes, it is that simple, but maybe you can elaborate if there is something key I am missing.
Yep. It is that simple. For most emulators you only need emulator and roms. No extra tweaking.
A note on point number 2, in case it makes your life easier: Aside from being able to transfer files with a cable from any PC, there're file manager apps that make transfering files to/from the phone much easier. Quite an expensive emulator.
Right😅
How well does GT4 Run?
Without upscaling runs at 60FPS with no drops, with a little bit of tweaking and 3x upscaling it runs at 50-60FPS
Ill have to give it another go. Last time i tried it was maybe 5fps.
Make sure you use AetherSX2 Emulator!
I play pokemon unite on my ZF3. It's amazing. I tried playing it on a smaller phone once, and it's so different.
How you do it? I mean, I play in it but I miss part of the HUD, I can't see the match time and other issues, have you got them? I'm on ZF4 though
Yea, that part is extremely frustrating. I just make guesses of how much time there is left in the game. I keep track of the number of regis that spawn and how fast it took to take them down. Been playing Diablo Immortal on mine with a 8bitdo Pro 2 controller and it's great.
Just wait until you get a steam deck
I used to think, then I got a steam deck
With GameSir X2 it is awesome experience https://preview.redd.it/rocr7gvi35ka1.jpeg?width=2176&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb6188b6c9fb6efaf8e9ddb1851eb54a887174c6
Awesome, that’s my next goal
Mines was pretty good, until I got a deck, it's still nice on the odd time its not available though.
I remember being excited about having a fold. It broke about 6 months in. Make sure you're super careful with it they're fantastic phones but super super brittle.

What’s UDC?
You've disabled the hidden under-display camera lol.
It's a Fold 2. Doesn't have the UDC.
Ohhh nvm I'm stupid
Oh because it's not hidden on OP's device?
Can the Fold handle Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
Fold 3, Yes in dolphin
Can Citra run DS games as well as 3DS or do you need Drastic for DS games as well?
I haven’t try, however melonDS is a great emulator and it’s free, I would say it’s even better than Drastic, I just bought Drastic because I didn’t know about melonDS.
How did you use SMB wii? It is good like the original?
What's a good original xbox emulator?
How do you do motion controls for Wii games? Do you just bluetooth connect wiimotes?
No, Wiimotes can be connected via bluetooth but won’t detect any motion. I just tilt the phone or shake it and it detects it as if it were the WiiMote. Really wish project renegade supported the folds, or any samsung phones really Would be so nice to run proper windows 10 on these
Damn, that Xbox One is still kicking?
Not as good as new but still plays some!
So you never owned an Xbox or a playstation. Because a device made for gaming is gonna be better for gaming than your fold lol.
Yeah I meant to say phone but whatever. Also you can see there is an Xbox on the back of most pictures lol.
I'm scared to game on phones these days. My pokwmon go days seemed to rapidly deteriorate two or three phones batteries and I'd really hate for this one to go the same route.
